@daniellemybelle: I'm so sorry! 10 min is my fussing time limit at night. If it is hard crying, then I get her immediately.

We've been up at 1 and 4. She wouldn't fall back asleep at 4 until I held her at 4:30. Good news is we have a snow day. I had to get up to see if we were out and they finally called it at 5:25. I'm up so I'm probably going to pump and fold some laundry. At least now I get to take a nap today when I get tired!!!!

@singingbee: She was hard crying My mom actually thinks I should just let her CIO indefinitely but I think she's too little. It's hard when DH is out of town though because if I go in to soothe her she only wants to nurse, so we are creating a habit of nursing like every hour.

Yay for snow day! Did LO go to daycare still? A whole day to myself sounds amazing!

@daniellemybelle: Oh my word! I don't know if I have it in me to CIO, especially at this age. Trust your mama gut, if you think it's too early, it probably is. I'll let H fuss a bit, but as soon as it turns to hard crying, I go get her.

I had an entire day to myself yesterday! I had a snow day, but sent H to daycare anyway since she's been fussy and I had a few things that required two hands to do. I missed her, felt immensely guilty the entire time, and was so glad to see her again.

@avivoca: I literally felt sick but so many people I have talked to have said I should wait 15 minutes or so to see if she will work it out on her own. I always thought I'd be all for sleep training but I can't do it I don't know how I am going to get through this current phase though! I only got about 3 hrs of sleep last night.

You shouldn't feel guilty for taking a day to yourself! I would totally do it too if I could. I have my mom around who is a huge help but we are always in the same house so I can never truly disconnect from mommy mode unless I go out... And all I want to do is rest these days!

@daniellemybelle: I didn't even take a nap! My husband was so surprised (he was the one giving me grief about sending her to daycare when I would be home), but I felt so rested just being alone.

We let Hyla fuss once, and like you, I literally felt sick. I kept making these grabbing motions toward her, and finally he gave her to me to shush (this was when she was fighting the crib). It was the worst night of my life.

@daniellemybelle: don't worry about what other people say! If you feel you need justification, here's a good article about why sleep training at this age isn't ideal. Hang in there, mama! http://askmoxie.org/blog/2013/05/should-you-sleep-train-your-4-month-old.html

@avivoca: and @daniellemybelle: I would have sent her to daycare, but unfortunately it's an ice day so no going anywhere for us. I think it's changing over to rain, but we are under an ice storm warning until 6 pm right now.

@daniellemybelle: We've received the same CIO advice. The month of January was really, really, really rough for us sleeping wise. I mean A was waking up at the end of just about every sleep cycle with the exception of 1-2 hour stretches. Although we haven't let him CIO yet, we have let him fuss. He has a very specific cry when he is tired and after noticing that he would use that cry to get us to pick him up (he would literally be silent the second we picked him up) we knew we had to let him fuss it out. Like the other mamas, if it turns into hard crying, we pick him up.

    Love this idea!

Weight: Alex is probably in the 15 lb range right now. He'll be 4 months tomorrow.

Height: 27 inches! He is long and lean.

Sleep: Frankly, January SUCKED. Waking at the end of just about every sleep cycle and going for a max of 2 hours. Hopefully last night was an indication that things are on the mend as he only woke up twice. Hallelujah! The longest stretch we've had is 4 hours. Fingers are crossed that his sleep continues to improve.

Eating: Still BFing (nursing and bottles). He eats on demand, but usually every 3-4 hours. I think he's closer to 30 oz a day.

Likes: Observing people (especially babies and kids) and his surroundings, eating and sucking on his hands, walks outside, the Fisher Price Kick & Play Piano, music, me 'threatening' to kiss him (his giggling was out of this world cute) and standing. I would say he loves his mom, dad his dog and really pretty much anyone that smiles at him.

Dislikes: pacifiers and being put to bed that is not in someones arms, the strollers/carrier.

Latest milestone: Turning himself. When I went to his crib this AM he was perpendicular instead of parallel.

Biggest challenge: Sleep for sure, but we are making progress!

Most fun thing about your LO: He is really starting to develop a personality. He's generally pretty happy-go-lucky, but I feel we are going to have a very active child soon.

Describe your LO's Personality if it's starting to show?: See above. People also say he is a good baby and very happy

    Mamas:
Back at work? Still on Mat leave? Back at work. Because I work from home full time, I've been working for the past couple of months.

Any post-partum issues? I still have 7-8 lbs to get to my pre-preg weight, but would like to lose 10 lbs. I just don't have any time to get to the gym and the sleep deprivation is making me want carbs and sugar all day long.

How are YOU doing? Generally speaking I am great. So in love with our little man and feeling incredibly blessed to have my family. That said, I am beyond tired (hello permanent jet lag) and would love to have a little more me time. Que sera, sera.

    @Sadieloo: Cutie!!! And tall!

How many of you are still swaddling? LO has no interest in rolling over so we still are, with Halo sleep sacks, but I think we are going to try the Merlin soon to see if access to her hands helps her self-soothe.

@daniellemybelle: we quit cold turkey last Tuesday. We use the baby dee(?) sleep sack. It's the one people recommend. We got it as a gift.

@daniellemybelle: We haven't swaddled since her second day of life. I'm really glad now that we never swaddled, even though it sucked at first with the Moro reflex.

@Sadieloo: What a cutie! Hyla is getting an exersaucer for valentines day and I know she will love it!

@singingbee: The Zipadee? That's kind of along the same lines as a Merlin, right?

@avivoca: You know, S could sleep okay without swaddling in the beginning but we just did it because we thought that's the thing to do! Now I think she is just used to it but hopefully giving it up won't be a huge deal...

@daniellemybelle: thanks! I'm hoping his length now is indicative of him being tall. How's the sleep going for you? Alex's sleep was horrendous for Jan and I read a lot and talked to a lot of people about sleep training, CIO, etc. we are still swaddling A because his Moro reflex is still strong. That said we've been keeping one arm out so he can eat his hands. We also had to cut the bottom of the halo swaddle open because he is so long. Ha!

@avivoca: thanks! So far A isn't quite sure what to do with the exersaucer, but if nothing else he likes to be standing.

Another snow day for us! This time, we had an ice storm, so we kept H home. Thankfully, my organization does not dock us pay or make us use vacation days for closings due to weather.

That being said, can it be spring already?

@Sadieloo: So cute! DD tried the exersaucer at my parents house and got overstimulated so we haven't opened the one at our house yet.

@daniellemybelle: We use the Halo swaddle sleep sack but arms out so it's more of a blanket than swaddle I suppose. We just try to keep her warm.

@avivoca: Snow day here too. We are getting dumped on, over a foot in about 8-9 hours. Poor DH is out there now trying to make somewhat of a dent in the driveway.

Gaaah, totally forgot to thank you all for your awesome advice a few days back regarding LOs crap sleep! She's doing SO much better and were getting 4-6 hours for her first stretch!

@daniellemybelle: We're still swaddling, but I think she's going to start rolling soon. Overnight it's not a problem since she still sleeps in the rock and play, but she's not going to be in it forever so we'll have to start trying an arm out.

Has anyone started introducing food other than breast milk or formula? I know that pediatricians recommend waiting until 6 months, but at this point Arthur is trying to grab food off of my plate and eating 6-7 ounces in one sitting. Except for night time, he wants to eat every 2-2 1/2 hours. This is getting to a be a bit ridiculous. I wanted to try out baby led weaning, but might have to introduce some cereal first. I plan on discussing with the doctor at our 4 month on the 24th, but just thought I would ask around in the meantime.

  22. daniellemybelle

    cantaloupe / 6669 posts

@TFrances: Not yet but she shows no interest in food. We aren't necessarily going to wait til 6 months - just until she shows most of the signs of readiness you read about. I've heard that if they are interested in food but still not quite ready, freezing some breastmilk or formula & putting it in a mesh feeder is fun for them.

Well, friends, I have a "flu-like illness" and it blows. It's also quickly obliterating my modest milk supply Doesn't help that DH is out of town. Thank goodness for my mom!

@TFrances: Hyla has been eye-poaching my food, but doesn't try to grab at it yet. I plan on talking about it with the Ped tomorrow.

@daniellemybelle: I hope you feel better quickly! Flu or flu-like, it sucks being sick and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I'm glad your mom is there to help out.

Tomorrow is our FOUR month appointment! Does anyone else feel like time is speeding by? Weren't we just getting our BFP's five minutes ago?

    @daniellemybelle: feel better!!!!

@avivoca: lo is 4 months old tmrw and I can't believe it. I found out today, one year ago, that we were having her. I'm reminding myself of those sweet thoughts as I sit up with her right now. I've basically been up most of the night. She is stuffy so I got her out of her pack and play so she could sleep upright on me, which meant I was dozing. Then it was so bad she was waking herself up because she couldn't breathe, so we suction out her nose. The most pitiful, heartbreaking cries she has ever made. She was super mad at me, but I was like, "YOU CAN'T BREATHE IF I DON'T CLEAR OUT YOU NOSE!" She has fallen back to sleep, but I can't. Also it's too close to getting up, so I'm sucking it up. Sigh.

@TFrances: lo isn't quite ready, but I have a feeling she will be getting there soon. I bought a book about purées and everything so I'm getting excited about it. The wholesome baby good guide. Should be a good read!

@daniellemybelle: If I didn't have to work tonight, I'd drive down there so H and S could have an epic play date and you could get some rest. I hope you are feeling better today (also, if I'm not mistaken, I think you are about three hours from me and I hope sometime we can meet in person).

@singingbee: Oh, the pitiful "you're clearing out my nose" blues! I said that a lot to H when she was sick, and I felt terribly for her. I hope MM is felling better this morning and that you get a large cup of your favorite caffeinated beverage today.

Weight: LO was 14 lbs and 1.8 oz on January 25. I think she has to be around 15 lbs now. We go for her 4 month check-up on February 17, so it will be very exciting to see how much she weighs and how long she is.
Height: Not really sure. We tried to measure her one day and she was around 26 inches.
Sleep: She was doing really well for a while. This week, it's been pretty bad. Last night she slept about 6 hours at a time, which was amazing. She sleeps in a sleep sack now because she could roll over. We went cold turkey from the swaddle and she seems to be doing well.
Eating: Still BFing (nursing and bottles). We were supplementing with some formula, but we stopped that after Christmas. She gets 3 5 oz bottles at her sitter's house each day. I pump around 4-5 times and usually have enough to make an extra bottle each day. On the weekends we nurse on demand. She can usually go 2.5-3 hours between meals.
Likes: sitting up in someone's lap, her momma's singing, her daddy's funny faces and voices, her swing, her wubbanubs, her baths (oh my goodness-she kicks and splashes around), A and A blankets, eating, talking, being held, her Kick and Play piano mat, her bumbo, her bouncy seat
Dislikes: some tummy time, having to be patient, waiting to be fed, not be picked up when she wants to be
Latest milestone: We've almost got back to front rolling. She can roll tummy to back. We're also working on sitting up by ourselves.
Biggest challenge: Sleep and trying to figure out our new 'normal'. She is 4 months old and I feel like once I get some sort of routine down, something changes and we start again. It's hard being solo for most of the week and working full time, but we are doing okay with it. It's hard when she doesn't sleep.
Describe your LO's Personality if it's starting to show?: she has a pretty great personality so far. She is trying to talk and she responds well to others. She is kind of high maintenance in that she isn't really patient. When she is hungry, she lets you know and expects to be fed right then. When she is tired, she wants you to hold her RIGHT THEN. But, she is mostly a happy, smiling baby.

    Mamas:
Back at work? Still on Mat leave? Back at work. I've been back since January 6. I miss her so much during the day, but I really enjoy being back to work. It's tiring, but it's really great to be around my 'other kids'.
Any post-partum issues? I'm under my pre-preg weight, but my body shape is different. My boobs are weird since I"m still feeding and clothes look different on me. I need to start doing some kind of working out because I eat all the time because I'm eating all the time because I'm so hungry from breastfeeding.
How are YOU doing? For the most part, I'm good. I have some bad days (yesterday was one of them). If she is sleeping at night, then life is wonderful. The house isn't picked up and I don't know what it feels like to have time to myself, but I really am happy with the way life is. Even yesterday when I was super tired from a week of not sleeping, she laughed and laughed at me and I was like, "It's all worth it. It's ALL worth it."

Y'all, am I the worst mom ever for seriously considering checking into a hotel tonight & making DH & LO sort it out? I am still deathly ill & the sleep deprivation with it is seriously torture. S will not let anyone else put her down for a nap so I can only rest for 1.5 hrs max between feedings & naps. And nighttime of course she wants me. I can't sleep anyway because I can hear her screaming. I am desperate.

Hyla had her 4 month appointment on Friday! We had a much better experience with the nurse. She was so nice and really went out of her way to be gentle during the shots portion of our visit. She cried for maybe two minutes and was easily calmed down, but I would be lying if I said I didn't tear up as well. She is 24 3/8" tall and weighed 14 lbs 3 oz. our pediatrician said we could start solids, but I plan on waiting until closer to six months. She's been eye poaching our food, but she isn't sitting as well as I want her to. I am hoping to do a mix of baby led weaning and puréed food. We go back in April.

Here's one of the out takes from her monthly photo. It's blurry, but I think it captures her joyful personality so much!

    @avivoca: so cute!!

We barely survived our first week with Hubs working nights... By monday we all felt much better and were over our stomach bugs. Wednesday we woke up to the ice storm and while Jon made it home safely (the roads werent bad) we lost power and our neighbors tree was leaning on our house.

It wouldnt have been so bad and i would have gone on to work but because we had no power and the snow was melting our sump pump was filling up fast. By the time we found a generator to rent and got it hooked up the back of our basement had about an inch of water and the carpet in the finished part was soaked. So i stayed home to help Jon, called tree removal people and packed up to go stay at my inlaws house for the night.

Luckily for us our power was back on by 10pm that night and my mom came up on thursday night to help me get the house back in order. My poor BIL & SIL just got their power back on Sunday night.

It was nice to spend some time with Jon on sat morning before he had to get some sleep. Me , Fi and the dog headed to NJ for the rest of the weekend since he still had to work.

Not looking forward to the impending Nor'easter thats coming up the coast tomorrow night. I hoping that it will be warm enough to turn to rain instead of the 12-20" that are a possibility.

I know i'm not the only one thats totally over this winter, i cant wait for spring!

@Chillybear: Glad you all are doing better! I am ready for spring too. Need to get out of the house more!

Y'all, I am in a bad place with LO's sleep. She basically refused to sleep in her crib last night - I was up with her until 3:30am when I cried Uncle & brought her in bed with me. Before that it was nurse, rock, put down, wake up & cry, do it all over again, over and over and over. We are going to have to sleep train - I can't be up all night like this, she needs more sleep, and the only alternative is cosleeping which I am not comfortable with.

@Chillybear: I'm done with winter. DONE.

@daniellemybelle: Oh man. That sounds BRUTAL. I hope that you can find a way to sleep train that you are comfortable with and that it works for you! I think we are headed in that direction...her wake-ups are getting more frequent and I am so tired.

You guys, today has started off badly. I turned to the right and completely threw my neck out. It's a bad crick. I'm rocking a rice sock accessory today at work (and I really don't give a crap if my boss likes it or not). I'm not sure how I'm going to be able to pick up the baby when I can't bend over or to the right without pain. The chiropractor can't fit me in until 5:30. On top of that, my husband is out of town for work. UGH. It's so bad that I had to change my outfit because I can't put my right arm behind my back. Driving to work was super fun.

@daniellemybelle: hugs. Do what you need to do. My LO is ok with the crib now but he was still up at 1, 3, 5 and 6. Yawn. But we've also had nights where he only woke once or twice. Who knows. There's a chance I may go back to work and I would consider sleep training then, definitely.

@daniellemybelle: We're still in the midst of going from RnP to crib. She still sleeps better in the RnP but i built a "nest" under the crib sheet with 2 tightly rolled beach towels to form an oval and on work nights I've been putting her down in the crib for the first stretch then after she wakes at 2-3am putting her in the RnP so she'll sleep until 6. on the weekends I try to do all night in the crib. last few weeks we're up at least 3 times each night... could this be the 4 month regression I hear so much about?

@avivoca: And we're bracing for the nor'easter coming tonight. I've decided to abandon ship and head to my parents house in south jersey.... They might get it worse but at least i wont be alone. I'll probably have to work on saturday to make up the time. I feel like i'm just throwing money at the daycare there have been so many days theyre either closed or i cant take her in.

I hope you neck feels better.... is there anything you can take to help with the pain until you get to the chiro?

@Chillybear: I can only take Tylenol since I'm nursing. The Rice Sock feels amazing. I can feel the awful knot in my shoulder (it's right at the base of my neck). I hear about throwing money at daycare. We've had a ton of snowdays at work since I've been back, but thankfully I don't have to use PTO to make up those.
