@kjpugs: I have antibiotics waiting at Kroger. He's going to get them on his way home. I'm pumping as much as I can right now trying to clear the clog.

And I dropped off the face of the earth. Sorry

Its been a difficult couple of months. All of January we had extreme GI upset with every feeding. I'm talking projectile vomiting, diarrhea, screaming. Had a ton of tests, ultrasounds, etc. done and saw our pediatrician 3 times a week until we could get in with a pediatric GI specialist. Turns out we have MSPI and GERD that was brought on by a virus. He's always been allergic to milk but the soy was a shock. We had a severe allergic reaction to Nutramigen so now we are on Neocate which is beyond expensive and Prevacid but hes doing well so who cares. His eczema has cleared, his craddle cap is gone, he is soooo soft and happy.

Then we went back to day care and got a cold. Ha, yeah right, we don't just get colds. We got bronchliotis AGAIN and it was determined that he had RSV. So we did breathing treatments and saw our per 3x a week until it cleared. We are 3 weeks out from the start of the cold, hes feeling much better. Sad news they are confident he will have asthma, they wanted to put him on Singluar but I read up on it and passed. He's so little, I hate all the drugs and the main side effect is night terrors. How sad!

After calling all of our families and posting on facebook we are lucky enough that we have found people to watch him at our house during the work week so we will not be sending him back to day care. Our pediatrician feels his immune system is too weak at this point and to wait till next school year.

On the normal front, 4 month sleep regression is KILLING ME! I am not handling it with grace and my husband is being a huge butthead. Hopefully it ends soon? His fever just broke last night. If hes not sleeping better at 5 months we are sleep training. I'm a CIO person but I'm not sure what extent we will go to.

Silver lining, we are rolling front to back, back to front, laughing, teething, blowing bubbles (9 month milestone!), getting good at sitting, and are still a big boy! I hope all is well with everyone else, sorry we disappeared. It's been a ride thats for sure!

@kjpugs: I can imagine! The weather here has been BRUTAL this winter. So glad, you had fun with your fam and your sis was able to meet Effie. Hopefully we can meet next time you are up here.

So ladies how long are you LOs sleeping and what's your longest stretch at night? We are 10-12 hours at night and the longest stretch we've had is,almost 6 hours. Sadly, that was only one night

@ladybee: so sorry to hear of your troubles. Glad to see your little guy is so happy and that you are doing better as well.

@Sadieloo: thanks. M is sleeping 12 hours but is back to waking every 2-3. I blame most of it on being sick. Today was the first day he took full bottles all day. I'm praying for a 4-5 hour stretch tonight. Mommy and daddy aren't handeling the lack of sleep that well.

Hey ladies. Last night was terrible. My fever spiked to 102.9 around 11:00, even though I had been taking Tylenol. It took all night to come down and I spent the first half of the day in bed. Now I'm waiting to see if my fever comes back. It's been about six hours since I have taken any Tylenol or Advil. Either way, I need to go to work tomorrow. I get the feeling that they aren't too happy that I was out all last week. I'm also worried about my supply. I have barely been able to pump anything. We'll see how it goes at work tomorrow. I usually get between 10-11 oz during the day. My boobs haven't felt full and I haven't felt a letdown in a day. Hyla isn't acting hungry, so she must be getting something.

    I hate being sick.

@kjpugs: I went to my PCP today after waking up with another fever. It turns out that my upper respiratory infection turned into a wicked sinus infection. He checked the antibiotics my midwife had called in, and there's no information regarding their safety for lactation! So he told me to stop taking them and called in another antibiotic that would cover the sinusitis and mastitis, and it is lactation safe. Now I don't trust the midwife. I has to ask her to check my stitches at my 6 week checkup, she's scheduled to do my pap too. I am going to reschedule with my favorite midwife.

We're back from our trip safe & sound! All & all, flying with a baby is no picnic but it was easier than driving would have been! The flight there was actually a breeze - she was smiley & charming the whole plane. The return flight was not as easy, which makes sense because she had a very long exhausting weekend. She cried some, though not for long, and she had a blowout. Funny moment though - DH was carrying her to the bathroom to change her but he went to the one without a changing table, so he was walking back up the aisle & she was fussing a bit, but then she saw me as they passed my seat & she smiled SO BIG. The look on her face was totally, "OMG Mom you're on the plane too!? This is so cool!"

The hardest part of the trip was just all the hubbub with my in-laws. She doesn't do that well with his side of the family. It makes me a little sad that they don't really know her real personality. They were so happy to have her there all the same.

I decided to not get back into our old bad habits upon our return, so we are sleep training (Ferber) tonight. I'm terrified. Please think positive thoughts for us that it goes well. I know if she cries for any prolonged period of time I am going to give in so I really hope that doesn't happen & make the whole thing a waste!

@kjpugs: What you said about the weather is so true! Today it was sunny so I bundled S & me up, got the dog ready, got her in her stroller, and headed out... And even in warm clothes it was just too cold so I went back after about 10 minutes. It took longer to get ready to go! I can't wait until it's nice out!

@avivoca: I'm so sorry you're sick! And that is horrible about your midwife. You think she'd know better! My supply (already low as you know) dipped when I was sick but it came back up right away. I'm sure yours will too!

    @Lozza: Sweet things!!!

@ladybee: I'm so glad to hear from you! I'm so happy things are looking up after all you & your poor baby have been through. S has ezcema (though not very bad) & cradle cap, and has always had tummy issues... I really wonder if she has some sort of allergy even though her ped always dismisses it.

Oh my goodness. Just had our first sleep consultation for Effie (yup, we are seeking professional help!) and my eyes have been opened to so much!!!! We are holding off starting sleep training for 2 weeks so we can try Similac Alimentum. She really thinks that a lot of the fussiness and issues we are seeing are related to a milk sensitivity. You know how I felt she started teething just before 3 months? That's also when she stopped getting breast milk. Thinking that a lot of the teething issues were actually discomfort from a sensitivity. I felt like our last ped brushed off my concerns about her gas/discomfort so I am anxious to try this.

The sleep stuff we talked about on the call too was so eye opening. Obviously results yet to be seen but it was the most amazing (long) call ever just basically learning so much. I am itching to start but we want to rule out/figure out this formula stuff before making all the sleep related changes. I am simultaneously shell shocked, excited, and nervous!

Will fill more in soon. I should be asleep right now (DUMB KELLY! GO TO BED!) but had to share because it was such a huge A HA!!! moment for us.

  18. daniellemybelle

    cantaloupe / 6669 posts

@kjpugs: That's so exciting! I really wish we could afford to hire a sleep consultant! We are sleep training right now & I feel very alone & in the dark Although having said that, LO is doing really well all things considered! Last night (our first night) was bumpy but tonight she went down without a peep at 8pm & this is her first wakeup at 11:30pm! Before she would have been up 2-3 times already. I can't say she's "trained" from just one night but I hope things continue to get better for us.

Wow, that was a big tangent about me You will have to tell us your consultant's best tips, and more importantly how E does on different formula! I have always suspected S has a sensitivity because she has horrible gas (like loud farts that smell terrible), along with skin issues. Switching to Similac Total Comfort helped her tummy quite a bit though, and she's such a happy baby these days that I haven't stressed.

Oops, there I go talking about myself again... I am like Juan Pablo! (Please tell me you watch the Bachelor...)

@avivoca: I hope you feel better soon! I have been sick since Halloween! # rounds of antibiotics for a chest infection that wont go away, 2 new inhalers for my bronchitis and asthma, (and now a baby on the way!!)
This last week is the first week that I feel better... but now the pregnancy issues- morning sickness, cramps, oh so tired.....

@daniellemybelle: @MrsScottish: Thank you ladies. I feel a lot better now that I have the right antibiotics for my illnesses, and I'm starting probiotics today to hopefully stave off thrush/yeast infection since I've been on three different antibiotics since Friday. I was able to work from home yesterday, but now there is an issue with my teamviewer and it is not letting me remotely access my work computer! I hope we can get it fixed, because it is really nice working from home without my boss asking me 10,000 unrelated questions or yelling at me from across the hall.

@daniellemybelle: It might be more affordable than you think! We're using Sleeplicity. I'm totally excited. Although OMG expensive formula. I thought the Total Comfort you guys are on was $$... this stuff is at Target for $30 but it's the smaller cannister and not the plastic one (1 lb vs 1.4 lbs I think.) OUCH. Stupid Alimentum. So we shall see how that works!

And I LOL'd at the Juan Pablo! I watch occasionally and he is such a douche nozzle!!!!!!!!!

Quick question: Are all of your LOs into jumperoos/exersaucers at this point? I just assembled LO's & she is not digging it. I could tell she was overwhelmed & uncomfortable. She's just not ready, I think... But I feel like she should be at 18 weeks?

Ladies, I checked in awhile ago and then lost track of this thread! I went back to work a little over a month ago now. LO really loves daycare. She doesn't nap well there, but otherwise, she's thriving. Our big news this month was that we finally got her MSPI and other food sensitivities under control at her 4 month appointment. She definitely went through a sleep regression (up 10+ times per night at one point!) but we are slowly coming out the other side of that. She's still up more than we'd like though.

@kjpugs: Good luck to you! Has your pedi confirmed the milk sensitivity? I'm still nursing, but we were able to get a prescription for Alimentum in case my supply goes down. I think that really helps cut the cost. It really is super expensive!

@daniellemybelle: Looking forward to hearing about how your LO progresses with the sleep training. Our pedi recommended Weissbluth, but we haven't had the heart to go through with it yet.

@avivoca: Feel better! And best of luck keeping your supply up. I don't know if this helps, but I can usually increase my supply if I nurse more often. Must be super hard when you are sick though.

    cantaloupe / 6669 posts

@avivoca: I'm so sorry but please don't panic. I bet it will come back when you get well, and getting well is the most important thing! After that we can talk about ways to boost your supply because I have SO been there, done that. Feel better my friend

  28. daniellemybelle

    cantaloupe / 6669 posts

@catlady: Hey! Good to hear from you! Sleep training is actually going really well but I wonder if she is sleeping better because she is so tired. Her naps have been pretty great without much work, but I think she's making up nighttime sleep since she has been falling asleep later & waking up earlier. I am going to stick with it & see how it goes. I will say Ferber has been a good method for us. The checks calm her down & are very reassuring for me. I could not do the Weissbulth method of strict CIO at this age, but I know some babies don't do well with checks.

@avivoca: do a power pump for an hour. Also, don't stress! It's so much easier to say that. I thought my supply was dropping when I got sick, but it's back up to normal. Hang in there and get well!!

@daniellemybelle: she is just now starting to like it. She hated it at first. Now she really likes playing in there.

@catlady: good to hear from you!

@kjpugs: share your wisdom o wise one! We were going to sleep train this week and move LO to her own room, but I chickened out.

  31. daniellemybelle

    cantaloupe / 6669 posts

Y'all, I think sleep training is working. I feel like it's premature to say that but last night (night #3) she fell asleep on her own with no crying! We did our routine & I put her down, and she was rolling around in her crib so I was like, "Oh boy, here we go," but literally in 3 minutes she was out! She had 3 wakeups - I was shooting for 2 but it's better than the like 47 we were dealing with before! And her naps have been much improved - most of the time she wakes up at the 40 minute mark & puts herself back to sleep.

I feel like I am totally jinxing it to say things are going well this early but I just want to encourage anyone who is thinking of sleep training. (I see you @singingbee!) I was a wreck the first night but she really never cried for a prolonged period & the Ferber checks were very reassuring for both her & I.

@daniellemybelle: Lucy's not quite there yet. She's not tall enough for it yet (a little less than an inch to go), and not quite sitting up well enough yet, she ends up leaning forward in it.

  33. kjpugs

    grapefruit / 4862 posts

@daniellemybelle: ferber is what we are going to try! That is encouraging!

Guys, last night was THE WORST. Our sleep consultant wanted us to go sans-Merlin (which I don't think was an issue for her- I guess the concern is her rolling over in it.) But we also started the alimentum formula yesterday and it seems to not agree with her. Arching like crazy EVERY feeding. She was up so much last night (3 times to eat- worse than her usual 2- as well as MULTIPLE crying wakeups I had to soothe her or let her paci do it.) I just don't know what to do. I know that it can take a while for the alimentum to "work" - that's why we aren't sleep training until she's used to it- but I did NOT expect it to be WORSE?!? WTH.

I'm so frustrated and at a loss. I just wish I magically could know what formula to feed her! I hate seeing her gassy/uncomfortable/in pain.

  34. kjpugs

    grapefruit / 4862 posts

@daniellemybelle: re: jumper- we got her in it at 3 months and she was very MEH. (Our jumper is like an exersaucer I guess? Activity center and she can jump in it. It's a baby einstein one.) But we just kept trying it for short periods and now she LOVESSSSSSSS it. I think she just had to get used to it and get stronger. Now she'll go in for 20-40 minutes a few times a day! Just not after she eats... or we get to clean up spit-up

  35. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@daniellemybelle: Hyla loves her exersaucer. LOVES IT. However, the last few times I've put her in it, she's pooped immediately. This is really more my hang-up than hers, but they were huge poops and I'm sure it was coincidental.

My fever broke this morning. I hope it's gone for good, because today is the first day I actually feel better. Every night for the past week, my fever has spiked around 8:00 at night. I get super sleepy and struggle to stay up until 10 (when I have to take my last eye drops). Hopefully, this is the end.

Since I have been out so much, my HR person set me up to work from home so I wouldn't be out of sick time. I am so thankful! It's going to be hard to go back to the office since I have to wear pants and all, but going back to the office will mean I am well.

@avivoca: omg SO GLAD things are on the up and up! I have been thinking of you lots. Also glad you got set up to WFH. That's a life-saver for you. @kjpugs: I'm really glad too. Sometimes I look at them and want to scream, "Did you think this was fun for me? Being so sick and barely able to take care of myself, let alone my child?" I'm never sick, and it's really hard for me to not be taking care of everyone. I actually cried when the doctor told me I had to stay home until Monday.

  38. kjpugs

    grapefruit / 4862 posts

@avivoca: I feel a similar struggle at work. I'm basically being told I need to travel more. While I'm HAPPY to do it, I'm limited... at 5pm, either I have to keep paying the nanny $10 an hour to keep working if she's available, or I have to watch her. It ends up limiting when/where I can travel. I can't help that my husband works nights!!! I had to get up at 5:30 to drive to Jacksonville for a 9:30am meeting while others would probably get a hotel there the night before. I don't have that luxury. It sucks feeling limited when you want to give work 100%.

  39. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@kjpugs: It really does. I've had to miss so many evening events because I've been sick or my husband has had to travel last minute and I can't get my parents to sit. I'm still looking for another job, one that doesn't require so much evening work and hopefully is a bit more flexible on the schedule.
