So, I was feeling movement for a good couple weeks, starting at 14 weeks. Then, after getting norovirus (and being admitted to get iv fluids because I was so dehydrated) I stopped feeling movement and have been really worried the last 2 weeks! Around this same time, I noticed my bump got smaller/a different shape. I think that baby girl changed positions (my guess is she was transverse breech, laying horizontally in my stomach) which is why it seemed like I wasnt feeling as much and my bump looked different. But this morning, I woke up with a bigger, rounder bump and I'm suddenly feeling lots of movement again (and that's with an anterior placenta!). I'm feeling much better, and guess that little girl must be changing positions like crazy in there! (And the norovirus had nothing to do with it.)

@Rainbow Sprinkles: Scary but glad everything is back to its more reassuring state!

Sooo does anyone know anything about anesthesia while pregnant? I *may* need a colonoscopy later in the second trimester.

I'm way too behind to catch up on everything but hope everyone is doing well!
Just had my second midwife appointment and got to hear the heartbeat for the first time I have an anterior placenta, so I'm a little disappointed I probably won't feel movement for a while. Also, we are team and my due date was moved up to Oct 22nd (for the next time there's an update).

@2littlepumpkins: I'm an anesthesiologist so I do know about it... for a colonoscopy you will likely get sedation, not general anesthesia, and we have plenty of medications that can be used for sedation that are safe in pregnancy. Second trimester is the best time for anesthesia while pregnant. Even if you need general it is not uncommon at all to anesthetize a pregnant woman and your doctor/staff will be well prepared for you! I am happy to answer any questions you have.

  7. 2littlepumpkins

    grapefruit / 4455 posts

@shellio: wow I guess I lucked out that you're here! I've had a colonoscopy before and I'm guessing based on nothing but Google that it was fentanyl? I can remember them having to up it a few times although I'm not 100% sure whether I was conscious or not the majority of the time. The dr didn't seem to want to use it if we don't really have to, and there may be an alternative option so it may not happen.. But I'm nervous about miscarriage, while at the same time desperate to have this GI problem taken care of...

@Rainbow Sprinkles: so glad everything is ok!

@2littlepumpkins: good luck with the colonoscopy...hopefully they figure something out with the anesthesia! I wouldn't worry too much, I'm sure there are certain kinds that are totally safe while pregnant...

What do you ladies think about the name Grayson/Greyson for a boy? I know it's trendy/popular, but it's been a name I've loved for so long. DH is finally considering some of the names I love but that do not have a good meaning. Only thing is he gets to 100% choose middle name, which scares me lol, but at this point I don't really care

  9. jodyblair

    kiwi / 611 posts

@NovBaby1112: I really like Grayson! The only thing that kept us from using it is it's the name of a town close to where we grew up and it just seemed a little weird to us. I also had a Grayson in my class who I absolutely looooved.

  10. Mrs. Pickle

    blogger / wonderful cherry / 21628 posts

@NovBaby1112: I like Grayson! It seems unisex with me so I'd pair it with a masculine middle name.

  11. 2littlepumpkins

    grapefruit / 4455 posts

@NovBaby1112: I like it. I wouldn't worry too much about popularity but you can always search the social security website for its popularity just in your state. Might be different than nationwide. Assuming you're in the US. I did realize browsing on there that the top boy names account for way more births than the top girl names though... I was going to try to avoid the top 30-50 but our top non family boy name is Nathan and it fall somewhere in there.

@NovBaby1112: Grayson is nice! I have only met one boy with that name in the past 4 years and I have supplied in a bunch of schools and daycares. I don't think anyone in my current school has that name.

Hi Ladies!! Sorry I have been so MIA lately...I have been reading, I just haven't had time to comment.

I had my 16wk appt last Wednesday and scheduled my 20wk anatomy scan for the 26th....Apparently, according to the dr I saw (not my regular dr) it has to be done in the 20th week or after, no sooner. She actually wrote on the order AFTER May 25th...Grr. But it's going quickly so I'm sure it will be here before I know it.

I am FINALLY starting to feel like I am part of the land of the living again. Today I actually feel almost completely normal for the first time in 10+ weeks!!! I still have bad nausea days but the throwing up is starting to get fewer and further in between. Fingers crossed it stays away.

Sorry I've been MIA too. It's been busy around here with work projects and my DD, who is entering the "terrible twos" a little early. Plus I've been a little worried about my pregnancy. I've had some bleeding daily for the past two weeks. I went to see my OB the first day the bleeding started and everything looked okay. She said that I'd likely bleed a few more days and then it should stop. Well, it got lighter but it hasn't stopped so I went back today. Everything still looked fine with the baby, but they don't know what's causing the bleeding so she moved my anatomy scan to this Monday, instead of May 18th. They also want me coming in weekly until this stops. The baby was moving a lot and his/her heartbeat sounded fine at today's appointment though, so I'm not too worried now. Just hope this either resolves itself really soon, or they at least find out what's causing it. On the bright side, I get to find out the sex a week earlier than planned.

@NovBaby1112: I like the name Grayson. I don't know any one with that name (although I don't know too many young kids right now).

@Treytonsmom2011: That's great that you're starting to feel better. I hope the nausea stays away! Today my doctor told me the anatomy scan couldn't be done until 18 weeks (mine was originally scheduled for 19.5 weeks, but she moved it closer to 18 weeks for me today due to my bleeding issue). Maybe different doctors have different preferences?

  15. hilsy85

    squash / 13764 posts

@NovBaby1112: I like it! We know one greyson around here, and he's a cutie!

Had my initial anatomy scan today. Everything looked good, and we confirmed it is a girl Of course, because I need something to worry about--they said they saw 90% of what they needed to see, but didn't get great pics of certain parts of the heart, brain, and base of the spinal cord (where you'd be able to rule out spinal bifida). They stressed it is very normal to not be able to see all those parts perfectly, and I have my detailed scan in a month. So just hoping everything looks good then too!

Ahh I am SO behind!! I just finished reading, congrats on everyone who found out gender!! We find out next Thursday and I CANNOT wait! We booked out babymoon for 5/24 in Cozumel I'll be about 19.5 weeks then! Aside from second guessing everything I hope it will be a good time I have just turned into a huge worrier being preg!

I have been getting HORRIBLE headaches the past week... on a daily basis... Tylenol isn't doing anything I tried the ice pack on the back of my neck last night and got some relief at least!

@NovBaby1112: I love the name! A girl I went to HS just had a boy she named that, the only other time I heard the name was the last name on "Revenge" lol

@cranberry: I hope everything gets resolved soon and you can have some peace of mind!

    apricot / 305 posts

@natalie403: Thanks! And Cozumel sounds like a lot of fun. Don't worry too much while you're there- just enjoy it I think we're skipping the babymoon- we went to Costa Rica without LO1 the month before I got pregnant, so that was our big trip for the year (I don't mind though- Costa Rica was worth skipping a babymoon for ).

  18. natalie403

    grape / 91 posts

@cranberry: We did IF treatments the past year so the only trip we took was a weekend to Universal Studios in FL on a month we had to be on BC before a cycle. I just desperately want to get away for a week But I am overthinking everything as usual (I did find some natural bug spray so that gave me some peace of mind on one of the concerns lol..

@natalie403: yay for booking a babymoon! We are going to cozumel on June 9th! We are gonna be in Playa del Carmen from the 7th through the 13th but taking a day trip to cozumel. You'll have to let me know how it is!

@NovBaby1112: I also like Grayson (but spelled with an a because e implies feminine)! I only know 1.

We had our anatomy scan today! Baby girl looks awesome. she was moving around like crazy! I'm measuring 19 weeks, 5 days, so 2 days or so ahead which is great. She is most definitely a girl. I'm up 8 lbs at this point....I wish I remembered how much I'd gained by 20 weeks with my other pregnancies!

Oh, and I've had PIH with both of my other pregnancies and needed medication. This is the farthest I've gone without needing medication for high BP! It was a bit high today, so it's looking like Ill need the atenalol soon, but not high enough doc wants to treat it quite yet. Next week I'm doing a 24 hour urine capture to check for proteins in my urine and get a good baseline (because I went preeclamptic with my first).

All in all I'm feeling awesoMe. Just tired!

@natalie403: I'm a huge worrier too! I feel like everything is "high stakes" after infertility. I'm going to blog about it eventually.

Has anyone made any baby purchases? I've bought a couple of items of clothing and a Wubbanub tiger pacifier. It had to be the tiger bc DH is an LSU fan! I also bought paint for the nursery. I'm trying to be good and not go overboard. I want to confirm she's a girl at my anatomy scan before going crazy. And also I'm having 3 showers so I know I'll get a lot of gifts. I've been browsing cloth diapers and baby gear and making a list for my registry. I really have the urge to do something! I just don't know what.

  21. hilsy85

    squash / 13764 posts

@Mrs. Pickle: I bought a few items of clothing, but will probably wait til late June or July to do anything else, mainly because I want to put off adding to the clutter in our house as long as possible! I would start a registry though, it's fun and you can always add things/take them off as you think of them. Also pinterest! I have definitely pinned plenty of things.

    @NovBaby1112: i love grayson! it's on our list if it's a boy!
@Treytonsmom2011: my old OB was between 18-22 weeks for anatomy scan and this OBs office said after 20 weeks as well! so we'll see when it actually comes down to scheduling it!
@cranberry: glad the bebe is still moving around! unknown bleeding has got to be scary!
@natalie403: cozumel sounds awesome! we should get DH's schedule end of june and hopefully we'll be able to plan a get away just the two of us and leave DD at my parents!
@Rainbow Sprinkles: glad you're feeling good! i'm definitely feeling more like myself, which is so nice!
@Mrs. Pickle: i haven't purchased anything in anticipation for this LO except a glider board for our city select. i have some stuff on an amazon registry/wish list for my own records of what i want to get. with DD, i made the registry and if i found anything that was exactly what i wanted on super sale, i bought it and marked it as purchased on the registry. even with 2 showers, there were plenty of things i had to buy on my own, so i figured it wasn't bad that i bought a couple things here and there beforehand.
@hilsy85: so you're having appts every 2 weeks or so right now? are they different offices?

i'm 14 weeks now and my next appt got moved to tuesday in the afternoon. i'm bringing DD now and the PA said we'd probably be able to tell the sex. since DH can't be there, i've called a couple bakeries to see about getting cupcakes made for the 3 of us to find out together (not that DD will care, but she will like the cupcake!). sooo, that means i probably won't actually know until next wednesday because it takes 24 hours to get the cupcakes. the anticipation may kill me once i have that envelope in my hands! DH said he could wait a week and i was like, NO! i must know ASAP after the information is out there!

    squash / 13764 posts

@birdofafeather: so fun!!! Do you have any hunches? And yep, my anatomy scans are at an imaging center separate from my Ob's office. Appts every 2 weeks until 22 weeks and then just monthly!

  24. birdofafeather

    pineapple / 12053 posts

@hilsy85: this pregnancy feels exactly like DD (other than me not having terrible skin, but i think that's because i found a good derm, rather than the hormonal aspect!), so i'd be particularly shocked if it were a boy! but really, we don't have a preference: we'd be excited for DD to have a sister and thrilled to see what it's like to have a little boy! i think finding out will really help for this to feel more real! every milestone for R felt like we were getting to know her more and i think it's even more so for the second!

@birdofafeather: Is your dermatologist able to do anything while you're pregnant? My skin has been TERRIBLE this time around and nothing I'm doing seems to help. I haven't even considered seeing a dermatologist because I wasn't sure they would do anything until after the baby is born.

  27. hilsy85

    squash / 13764 posts

@jodyblair: my skin was terrible with DS and I was prescribed clindamycin, which helped a bit. My OB also ok'd benzyol peroxide. BUt honestly the only thing that helped was delivery It can't hurt to go see someone though!

@Mrs. Pickle: oh, the middle would def be masculine if it's any of DHs names he wants- I'm guessing some sort of greek mythological figure like Zeus or Hercules or something crazy haha

@2littlepumpkins: that's a good idea- didn't think about that! I personally do not know any, but I hear it's popular...

@Treytonsmom2011: hope you continue feeling better!!

@cranberry: that sounds stressful! Do you have an SCH? GlAd they are monitoring you, And yay for getting to find out sex soon!

@hilsy85: glad most of your svan went well! I think it's still pretty early to see everything- I bet it will all go smoothly when you go back in a month for your more detailed scan!

@natalie403: yay for finding out sex soon!! And sooo jealous- Cozumel sounds amazing!!!

@Mrs. Pickle: just afew clothes here and there, nothing too crazy!

  29. birdofafeather

    pineapple / 12053 posts

@jodyblair: i went to her last year when i was still BFing and said, look, i'm 30 and i don't want worse skin than when i was 15! i also don't want to do BCP again because although my skin was perfect when i was on it for 10 years, it completely jacked me up once i got off and got pregnant the first time. so i am two topicals (clindamycin and finacea) as well as a 10% glycolic acid cleanser and vitamin D. she tested some levels for me (i went to her specifically because she is more holistic in her approach), but the vit D is all she said i was low on. it's helped a TON! i had bad cystic acne on my chin at the time and it was the worst right at delivery, but i had break outs all over all through pregnancy last time and this time, it's only if i'm not vigilant about using the wash (i think that does the most for me!) and the finacea. so yeah, going to her was so worth it as my PCP said i couldn't do anything until i was done BFing and said it would have to be an antibiotic. not the approach i wanted since i knew my skin was very prone to hormonal changes and i didn't want the fluctuating i had before! so being able to continue my protocol through this pregnancy was important. sorry for the novel!

@Mrs. Pickle: I NEVER worry before a vacation, I feel like it's completely pregnancy related because I worked so hard to obtain this I'm trying to be smart about things but ultimately I know this trip is to RELAX which is good for baby right?? Let me know if you blog, I would love to read it!! I haven't bought anything yet but I will as soon as we find out gender!!

@Rainbow Sprinkles: Wow! Glad you are feeling better. Do you know how you got the norovirus?

@NovBaby1112: I like the name Grayson, but it does remind me of the TV show 'Revenge'. It was used as a last name.

@Treytonsmom2011: Glad you are feeling better.

@cranberry: Sorry about your bleeding. Hope its stops or they figure out what is causing it.

@hilsy85: Hope everything looks good when you see them next month.

@natalie403: @Rainbow Sprinkles: We booked our baby moon to Cabo and leaving June 4th and coming back the 9th. I'll be 20 weeks. I'm at 16 weeks and even with the anti-nausea patch, I'm still feeling nauseous. Hoping 20 weeks, it will go away.

@birdofafeather: Haha. DH is the one who is very eager to spread the news on anything we find out. He's been bursting at the seams with this whole pregnancy. I'm actually pretty laid back about things. Trying not to stress since it seems like the OB isn't worried.

@Mrs. Pickle: Have I bought anything? I went to one of the JBF consignment sales last weekend and got some maternity clothes. I did find a Merlin's sleep suit and a Ergo infant insert. I got them for about 50% off retail. I have a mother's of multiples consignment sale this weekend. Hoping I can snag a double snap and go stroller.

As for me, we had our 16 week appt yesterday. U/S tech said it might be too early to tell the sex but she was able to make a guess. I'm doing a cake reveal so I currently don't know what we are having. DH was really trying to change my mind before the appt, so I ended up letting him find out. Though he said it's hard keeping the news from everyone. As of right now, he's being good and keeping his mouth shut.

I've been more nauseous lately... even after the meds I'm taking. I was told 12 weeks was going to be the peak of my nausea. 16 weeks is particular strong for nausea. I'm throwing up but it's just foam/bubbles... so I wonder if it's acid reflux.

Today, the nausea is gone (still taking my anti-nausea patch, though), but man, I have really bad indigestion. I woke up twice last night. I had to put pillows to support me while I slept. It sorta helped. I thought I had omeprezole in my purse to help with the reflux but it appears I took it out of my purse. So now, I'm just sipping milk to help. It's sorta working. From one symptom to the next symptom.

Good news both babies are doing well. They are monitoring my cervix and they said my cervix might be shortening, but the OB is going to show the results to the MFM and see if they are concerned. We had a discussion about pre-term labor. DH got a bit worried when she said babies can be born after 25 weeks to be viable. That would be end of June. OB said that she and the MFM will monitor it and I'll be seen more if they think it's an issue. I'm staying calm. I'm only going to worry if the Dr worries and so far they said things are going good and there's still time for some of the issues to resolve itself.

@2littlepumpkins: I hope you don't stress too much about the anesthesia portion of the colonoscopy. It should just be small doses of sedation which are perfectly safe for the baby. And if you are super anxious about it, they can do it without any meds although that would be uncomfortable as you know if you've had them before. The most likely meds they will give you are fentanyl and possibly versed (midazolam) - not everyone is comfortable giving versed to pregnant women but I would totally let them give me a dose in your situation. Hope this helps.
