Hey ladies, I am like @Shantuck: and don't even know all of what's on the list of things to do. There are definite about 5-10 major things and I hope this 3-day weekend gives me time to get my head around it all.
So Hurricane Hermine is headed our way and I'm nervous. We have only lived here a short time and so its my first hurricane. All of the schools and lots of businesses are closed for the day already tomorrow. DH says I should stay home. I'm worried about him driving in, too. It's only Cat 1 but I don't know what to expect. Preggo anxiety doesn't help.

@Amorini: good luck! I saw your post in the hurricane thread, and I'm originally from the west coast too and was really freaked out by my first one. Although in general they aren't that bad. The biggest issue for us is normally the wind that knocks down trees which normally means loosing power when they fall on power lines.

@Amorini: It's like a big windy rain storm. We got the fingertips of one and I remember going to school during it. When I was in college, we got the aftermath of Katrina as it traveled up into the Midwest and there was so much flooding on my campus. Maybe both of you should stay home? Make sure you have plenty of food and water too.

@whiskers: NOOOOOOO. You'll have to go buy the big bag or make some in a tray!

@avivoca: I wish we had a sonic close. I would totally run and get a bag from there. It's a 20 min drive each way which isn't happening today.

@Miss Ariel: @avivoca: Thanks, ladies! You were both right. We lost power for about 10 hours and it was just like a big windy rain storm. Lots of downed branches and tons of Spanish moss to clean up but no leaks or damage. Some neighbors weren't so lucky.
@Miss Ariel: Still thinking of you and your journey ahead to get back to normal life! One thing I appreciated after the storm passed was the peace and calm. (You don't get that after earthquakes because you never know when the aftershocks will happen!) I felt deeply grateful to experience that peace from my home -- having lost nothing but power temporarily. Puts things in perspective!
So... I had my first very clear and vivid dream of picking up this babe from a crib and changing her diaper. She was a GIRL!

@Amorini: Glad the storm wasn't worse and that you guys are safe. Can't wait to see if you end up with a girl!

Insomnia sucks so bad. I am so tired I could cry. H got up at 4:30 this morning after going to bed at 9:30. Now she is sleeping with Daddy while I lay over here awake. My hips are killing me, we are traveling, and I just want to go home. I just sneezed and it made my hips hurt.
Baby in 4-6 weeks. The end is near. I'm grateful that on the whole, pregnancy has been really easy, but this time was so much more intense, sick, and painful. I can't wait to meet this baby girl on the outside.

Woke up this morning and everything hurt. And I do mean everything! Feels like I got run over by a truck last night. Two weeks to go until DH gets home. Three weeks until baby arrives. I can do this! (maybe)
nectarine / 2210 posts
@Amorini: definitely different from an earthquake! I think because you know it's coming so you have more time to freak out and also plan, where with an earthquake its over before you realize it's started. I do remember thinking it was a little crazy when I moved from California that not everyone had earthquake kits in their car.

Hope everyone is hanging in there... being only 31 weeks, you ladies are giving me a glimpse of what is to come in a few weeks (and as I recall from my first pregnancy, it's not fun). The end is near, though!

I hope I did all these right. Getting so close to full term! Going to need to start a labor watch board before we know it.

I had my 36 week checkup today. The midwife had a student with her and she's the only person I didn't really like seeing. She did my swab and my cervical check. HOLY COW that check hurt and I never want another one. I only asked because they were going to be down there anyway and I figured I could see if these stupid BH contractions are doing anything. I'm soft but closed. I told her to get out of there because it hurt so much. Baby girl was not happy with her either and has squirmed so much. She told me baby was all out front and I wanted to say, "Please tell me something I DON'T know," but I refrained.
Weekly appointments from here on out!
Also, I ordered half a salad from Panera and they delivered a few leaves of arugula and some watermelon/tomatoes. Hangry pregnant lady is hangry.
kiwi / 657 posts
@avivoca: I'm sorry it was so unpleasant. Mine have never been too bad, but I'm always dilated - I wonder if that makes a difference.
Make sure you complain to Panera and get some credit at least.

We finally made some progress on our house renovations this weekend....E's new room (she's moving out of the nursery to make room for baby sister) is almost done construction-wise and I bought fabric for my aunt to make the curtains in there on my lunch break today. Hurray! I feel like we'll never get everything done, but if we don't it certainly won't be the end of the world.
I had some bad cramps yesterday which was weird for me because it never happened with DD1, but I drank some water and took a nap and felt better. Baby girl is really beating me up from the inside but other than that, can't complain. Just over 32 weeks here and can't even believe there are less than two months left.
@avivoca: I've never had a cervical check before! My former practice didn't do them until after 40 weeks, and I didn't make it that far. My current provider DOES do them, and I'm still undecided about whether or not I'll let them. Your experience makes me think....no. I'm sorry it sucked!
watermelon / 14467 posts
@mfa_lady: I only had one in labor last time; they don't do them unless you ask. I figured that since they were down there, I'd go ahead and get a check. I definitely have been having some cramping/contractions today after that, so we'll see what happens! I also think it was the inexperience of the student that contributed to how uncomfortable it was. I don't remember it hurting that much in labor (granted, everything hurt then).
kiwi / 657 posts
@mfa_lady: Yay for progress! I had some bad cramps a week or two ago and nothing since. You might decline the first two and then allow it after 38 weeks.
apricot / 271 posts
@Amorini: I had my first dream about baby about two weeks ago and it was a girl! ... And then I had another one few days ago and it was a boy! LOL. TG is making me crazy. For what it's worth, the boy dream was a little more vivid and everyone thinks it's a boy so I'll go with that.
apricot / 286 posts
@whiskers: My due date has been changed to October 1st, however (pending hospital confirmation) a c-section has been scheduled for Sept. 25th. They won't let me go past 39 weeks with my scare tissue issues.

Most of my cervical checks so far have been with dildo cam, because they don't want the good old speculum/manual approach to get near my bulging membranes.
Come to think of it, the bulging membranes could be a pretty epic indie band name.
persimmon / 1132 posts
@jaguar: OMG, too funny re: indie band name!
@avicoca: Sorry that you had such pain! I was actually at my weekly appointment today and decided to decline the check. I just had it done last week and didn't expect it to be done each appointment thereafter. I've decided I'll decline for the remaining appointments until 40 weeks if I make it that far. It was after the last week's check that the BHs became more of a daily thing so I don't want too much poking and progressing right now. Too funny -- I got "this baby's head is so low" comment. Really?! I had no idea.
@thepicklemonster: Oh wow! Yeah, TG is making me crazy too but we're oh SO close now! Thought I saw a little peeper on the u/s today but it could have been a cord. Waking, conscious brain says boy; sleeping, subconscious brain says girl.
pomegranate / 3921 posts
@avivoca: Oh, good point! I had one when I was in labor too. But I was already 10CM when she checked me so the discomfort I felt was from having to be still through a contraction so she slcould get in there.
@whiskers: That's a good point--I could say not until 38 or 39 weeks maybe. I feel like I totally don't need to know....but I also know I'll be super curious and will probably give in. Ha!
pomegranate / 3921 posts
Oh, and I forgot....baby girl is hanging out all up in my ribs in a biiiig way. Sometimes she's so painful in there I try to shove her down a little bit! I'll be interested to see what the midwives' weight estimate is for her in a few weeks--I feel like she's a lot more powerful than her sister was at this stage and I hope that doesn't mean an enormous baby.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@mfa_lady: I feel you. I was up for an hot in the middle of the night because little miss likes to stick her feet in my ribs when I lay down. She is definitely more active than her sister. I feel like she is going to be a less-chill baby too.
pear / 1767 posts
@mfa_lady: I had the worst rib pain with my son. I was convinced he had broken a rib. However, he was only 6 lbs. 3 oz. Not sure if baby sister is positioned differently or if it's still too early but I haven't had it again yet. My doc last time said that your enlarged uterus pushes your other organs up which is partially to blame for the pain.
My sister who just delivered had the same awful rib pain and said that icing helped her. Hang in there. Rib pain is the worst.
kiwi / 657 posts
@mfa_lady: @avivoca: FWIW, B was way more active in utero and such an easy baby. I think you just feel more each time as your muscles loosen. This one is crazy active as well and I'm really hoping it's just a matter of being able to feel more.
nectarine / 2210 posts
@whiskers: I'm hoping that's the case bc this baby is way more active than dd was. I know dd was such an easy baby that it's unlikely to happen again, but it'd be awesome if it did.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@whiskers: I hope that's the case! H was pretty chill, so I feel like I can't have two chill babies. Though, she's making up for her chill babyhood by being a sassy threenager right now.
pomegranate / 3921 posts
@whiskers: I think you're right about just feeling it more. And I hope lots of movement means chill baby, ha! E was NOT super chill....so I'd like to try out one of those.

@thepicklemonster: I've dreamed about both, too! My very first dream was about a girl and it was actually just a few days before I found out I was pregnant. It seemed the most "real". I've had one or two since then where it was a boy, but they were more typically dream-like, where you wake up and go "uh... that doesn't actually make any sense". For some reason I'm thinking boy, but I don't really have a strong sense either way. We'll all know soon enough, though!
@mfa_lady: The rib pain is no fun at all I can empathize with you there... although I think mine is just from a combination of enlarged uterus + me having a short torso. It's been bugging me since June.
Just got back from my latest MFM ultrasound, it was reassuringly uneventful I'm just past 34 weeks and baby is estimated at about 4 3/4 pounds, right in the middle of their normal growth curve. Head down and very low and very, very active! Every time I've gone in for an ultrasound the technician comments on how active s/he is being. They've scheduled one more growth scan for 39 weeks (provided, of course, that baby isn't here by then!).

@mfa_lady: My kid is waaaaay low but I have had the most horrific rib pain since the second tri - it's so bad, it keeps me up at night. I think every organ in my body must be under my ribcage right now.

@whiskers: I'm 34+5 today, but that's in Aussie time, so your chart is probably perfect, hehe.

Ugh, this pregnancy has gone downhill fast. I have what I think is pelvic girdle pain - it basically feels like my pelvic bones are splitting apart at the crotch and makes walking and doing things like turning over in bed, getting dressed super painful and sometimes impossible. And I got a huge stretch mark somehow I didn't have either of these issues in my first pregnancy. And I still have 5.5 weeks to go.
