Hi Bees, anyone out there have an RH negative blood type and need to have the rhogam shot at 28 weeks?
My doctor didn't seem too concerned about it, but the idea that if my DH has an RH positive type (getting tested this week to be sure), my body would see LO as a foreign body and attack freaks me out!
If you did have this situation, did you also have to have another shot after delivery if LO was RH positive? Did you experience any side effects from the rhogam?

Me! I'm Rh negative. DH is positive. I had the shot at 28 weeks. My son was born RH positive so I also had it after delivery. I didn't notice any side effects or anything.

I had the rhogam shot. It's no big deal. They'll give you the shot and a card. They test the baby's blood at delivery to see if you need the shot or not. I didn't need the second shot. I was way more concerned with being GBS positive and the antibiotics around that.

I had it! No big deal! My mom also had it with me. I got it after he was born as well

I also had it, no big deal. Turns out my LO also is RH negative so I didn't need it.

I had this - I'm RH negative and DH is positive, and LO ended up being RH positive. It's no big deal at all - they give you the rhogam shot in the behind (one at 28 weeks and one in the hospital when they found out LO was positive), and it didn't really hurt. There were no side effects at all.

I had the shot at 28 weeks for both pregnancies. For my DS, I did not have the second shot after delivery. For DD, the hospital messed up and sent me home without it and I had to go back for it a week later.

I had the shot after both of my deliveries. As my husband likes to point out, I'm the negative member of the family.
I had some drama in my second pregnancy when one of my lab tests came back inconclusive and I thought I had possibly had some antibodies developing, but everything turned out fine.
So don't freak out. The time to freak out is if you don't get the shot and there is sensitization, and even then it's not always a complete catastrophe.

I'm RH negative, DH is positive. I had the shot at 28 weeks, but didn't at delivery bc LO had the same blood type as me!

yup, I am O- and hubs is AB+ so i got it at 28 weeks and the day after delivery. it's no biggie - I jumped a little when she stuck me because well, do you ever get used to needles in the butt? but it's really nothin' to worry about!

It's not a biggie, the shot sucked but you get over it quickly and move on!

I'm RH- and DH is RH+, but I got the Rhogam shot at 18 weeks. I had quite a bit of bleeding at that point so they wanted to give it to me just to be safe. Everything was fine though. I got it again after LO was born.
It usually isn't an issue with the first pregnancy. BUT if during the first pregnancy you don't get the shot and you get antibodies then there would be problems during a second pregnancy.

yep, me too. DS & DH both positive, I'm B-
I had the Rhogam at 28 weeks and at delivery. I had some complications after delivery where my pre-e symptoms didn't go away for days and I stayed hospitalized for almost a week but they don't know what caused it.

Negative here as well and I will have to get the shot at 28 weeks. I'm not really worried about it, my Dr. said that if I see any bleeding before then to call him but it wouldn't be an e-room worthy trip.

I'm - and LO is + so I had the shot, it's no biggie. They give it to you so nothing bad like what you're imagining will happen. I did have it again after birth - they do that I believe so if you get pregnant again your body won't attack that fetus. No ill effects from either.

I had it at 28 weeks and then again after DD was born. DS had some major bleeding in the beginning of the pregnancy, so I had the shot early (like 7 weeks) and then again at 28 weeks, but not after delivery because he is RH-. No side effects, and I've had it four times! And, was able to have another baby

I had it at 28 weeks. I'm negative and DH is positive. I didn't needed it after delivery because DS is also negative. It's really not a big deal! I'm a baby when it comes to shots but it was super easy.

I had several because of bleeding very early in my pregnancy. I think I had to go every 12 weeks or so and the get one after delivery. It was no big deal, just a giant pain in the butt because each time I had to go get tested for the antibodies (knowing that I'd end up needing the shot) and the go back a second time for the Rhogam..
