@Pumuckl: Am sure if you are not around B will take the bottle. Enjoy your night out, a concert sounds fun!

    @Adira: Yay for crackers!!

@ALV91711: Aw that sounds so sweet! So good that he loves daycare.

@Smurfette: I dread the day H says mine and no! Haha At the moment she just shakes her head to everything.

@Pumuckl: Good luck on your solo flight with B. Have a good trip and let us know how it goes!

@Adira: That's great that Xander is doing so well with table food! Who doesn't like a yummy graham cracker?

Sooo, this morning I woke up to J and a crib full of blood! His entire face and hands were smeared with blood. It was from a bloody nose, and I guess he just rubbed and rubbed and rubbed it everywhere. It's been SOO dry, hot, and windy here lately. This dry, California heat is so disgusting. Both my kids are prone to bloody noses. I remember getting a lot of bloody noses as a kid too. Has anyone else here experienced bloody noses with your kids? I don't know what else to do except give them plenty of liquids and turn on the humidifier.

@Mrs. High Heels: OMG!!!!!! That would've freaked me out so bad!!!! I'm so relieved it was just a bloody nose and nothing TOO serious, but that still sucks! I don't have any experience with that, unfortunately, so no advice, but I hope you figure something out for the poor boy!!

@Smurfette: @Adira: hahaha are you guys twins or just echoing each other? yea, I was pretty freaked out too - and the smell of iron in the room was nauseating! Yes thank goodness it was a bloody nose and nothing worse. I thought bloody nose immediately though because he gets them pretty regularly.

@Mrs. High Heels: @Smurfette: Ooops! I should've read @Smurfette's response first so I didn't just repeat her word for word, haha!

Hopefully all it will take is a humidifier to help reduce his nose bleeds! Poor baby!

Hi Mamas! Sorry I've become waaay too behind on this thread! Things with my active girl never seem to slow down. But I wanted to pop in and see if any of the babes are transitioning and/or already on 1 nap/day now? If so, how did you know LO was ready? How long did it take?

I'm not ready for 1 nap/day, but K basically took only 1 nap/day for everyday while we were OOT for 5 days. And then today she refused to go down for 2nd nap - which resulted in her being awake for over 9 hrs before bedtime. And she was still super energetic and playing with DH, jumping like a monkey even while putting on PJs. As usual, I'm not ready for this!

@shopaholic: We are transitioning and it is going terrible. She really wants to be on one nap but isn't quite ready. She needs her first nap around 10/10:30. I think I am going to stop fighting her to get two naps and let her take the 10:30 nap for a few days and then slowly start pushing it back. Today we were out and she fell asleep in the car around 1:00 and slept till 3:00 and was just so tired and cranky by bedtime (and all day..urgh). I don't really know what to do so have no advice I think I just need to wait it out.

@shopaholic: T is still solidly on one nap, but she is much younger. I've heard it just kind of sucks for a while, and you have to try to be super active in the morning to get them through until nap time. And you might have to do early bed time for awhile until they adjust.

I'm kind of planning to force the transition starting in June or July, since she will start daycare in August, and we'll just plan an activity for every morning like going to the beach, whatever.
The trick will be keeping her awake in the car on the way home...

  13. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@shopaholic: Xander's on one nap at daycare, but still takes two on the weekends, so I'm no help. The only way I know he's ready to transition is by what he does at daycare, haha. He's just refused to go down for his second nap at daycare, but I still offer it to him at home and he still takes it. Good luck to you during this transition!

@shopaholic: lil b has been on one nap for awhile! He just transitioned on his own- and wouldn't go down for a second nap. Every once in awhile he might fall asleep later in the day- but only for like 15 minutes and it happens rarely.

@mrs high heels-my mom used to put Vaseline on a q tip and stick it in our noses when we were kids. My brother used to get a lot of nose bleeds.

We're still on two naps most of the time. There's no daycare transition so it's whenever the princess would like to move to one lol. Our ped said it will probably happen by the fall

  16. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@shopaholic: She moved to one nap when she moved up rooms at day care, so 1.5 months ago. But the weekends are iffy still. Saturdays's she will stay up and take one nap but it seems on Sunday's she needs two. All depends on the day. So we just go with her flow and adjust our plans to make it work around her nap(s).

@ALV91711: Awww, I love the story about Isaac calling his friend over to play. It's so much fun to watch them make baby friends at daycare.

@Mrs. High Heels: Eeek, blood all over the crib! Like @AprilFool, My heart would have stopped! Glad it was just a bloody nose. DH gets them a lot in the winter and sometimes the bathroom ends up looking like a crime scene. So gross! The humidifier and nightly saline drops is what works best for him.

@shopaholic: I think Pete is pretty much on one nap a day now but it's not a very good nap, so I'm not sure I'll be much help. He sleeps anywhere from 20 minutes to 2 hours, starting around 10am, and then won't sleep again until bedtime. However, it doesn't affect his mood or health so I'm trying to be mellow and not worry about it. I do wish he consistently took a decent 2-3 hour nap though.

@Adira: I love hearing about Xander's adventures with solid foods! He is really making progress!

@QueensBee: Well SUPPOSEDLY he ate some fruit and oyster crackers at daycare yesterday, but I'm not sure I believe it! He still won't eat anything I give him (except the crackers... ugh taking after Mama's love of carbs...)!

Oh my gosh, 20 minute naps are NOT enough!!! I hope those short naps are rare for you!

Okay ladies, I need some advice re: TTC. Our original plan was to wait until October but now I am feeling like maybe we should start trying ASAP. Here are my reasons...

The Pros of TTC May/June 2014
    - January/February baby means I don't have to deal with commuting through the winter (my commute involves a bus, a train, a subway, and a 1/2 mile walk so it's not something I look forward to next winter)
    - I can hunker down inside with baby during the cold winter months for all day nursing sessions and when it finally warms in May/June, we'll be able to go out more.
    - It works well with my teaching schedule. I can start maternity leave in winter and stay home until September.
    - First trimester will fall during summer months when I'm off from work so if I'm exhausted/nauseous, I have more time to rest.

-The main con is that we have to start right away and I just don't feel totally ready to be pregnant again.

The Pros of TTC Fall 2014
    - I have the summer to myself. I can go to the gym and get my body back in shape, which I think helped me have a very easy first pregnancy.
    - We are planning a trip to Napa in August, and I'd love to be able to have some wine there!
    - I don't have to think about it for a few more months.
    - LO #1 will be a bit older (hopefully slightly more independent) when LO#2 arrives.

Of course, this all assumes that I'd get pregnant right away and have a healthy pregnancy at either time, which I know is definitely not a given.

What should I doooooo? DH is open to both but also feels like starting right away feels soon.

  21. blackbird

    wonderful grape / 20453 posts

@queenbee, I'm not big on forcing yourself to TTC if you aren't really ready to be pregnant again. I don't think it's worth rushing.

  22. Mrs. Blue

    blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts

@blackbird: nailed it. I think you should wait until you both feel more "ready," although if you're like me, I may never feel totally ready and will just have to take the plunge at some point!

  23. Mrs. Blue

    blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts

@Mrs. High Heels: Regarding the bloody noses....I grew up in a super dry climate and got bloody noses a lot. I think the humidifier is a great idea. Something else that helps is putting a tiny bit of Vasaline or night cream (something super moisturizing) and just rubbing it on the inside of the nostril. With a little guy, you might have to use a q-tip or something. It doesn't take much, but it really helps stop bloody noses or prevent them.

  24. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: R eats way more stuff at day care then she does at home. Ate peas at DC but at home won't touch any veggie (not even sweet potatoes these days) unless in a pouch.
@QueensBee: Wait till you are 100% ready. and DH is ready. If he isn't ready, then it shouldn't happen. Both parties are parents so have to be 100% on board with the timing.

Plus you have to drink in Napa, it would be against the law to go there and not drink.

  25. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@QueensBee: Do it!!!!! Be pregnant with me and @tororojo:!!! But don't let me peer pressure you.

  26. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: That's encouraging to hear! I'm glad Xander's not the only one like this! At this point, I'm hoping he'll eventually be on all finger foods there and then eventually figure it out at home too, haha.

  27. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: If I waited until Hubs was 100% on board with having kids, we wouldn't have had them!!

  28. QueensBee

    pear / 1718 posts

Thanks for the feedback, ladies! I think you are all right and we should hold off at least for the month of May. I will reassess a month from now and see if we're feeling any more ready. I also have the same fear as @mrs.blue that we'll never feel 100% confident, but I think I need at least one more month to mull it over.

@Adira: I'm jealous that you were able to be so decisive about TTC! I'm going to need your peer pressure encouragement when I really do take the plunge!

@Smurfette: I know, it would be so wrong to go to Napa and not drink! Maybe I could buy a case of wine to send home for me to guzzle post baby!

  29. Mrs. High Heels

    blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts

@QueensBee: is it possible for you to push back his nap a little later to maybe 11 or 11:30? Maybe that might help extend his naps.

As for the TTC, that is such a tough decision, but I wouldn't want to force it if both you and DH feel rushed and like this is too soon. I think for me, it was important to get my body back before trying for #2 and have a few months of good sleep under my belt. I think you should enjoy time to yourself this summer and enjoy that trip to napa! It'll put you in a good mood when trying again for #2 with no regret.

  30. Mrs. High Heels

    blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts

@Mrs. Blue: thanks for the tip! I will try that. He woke up with some dried caked blood around his nose again this morning though it wasn't the horror scene that it was yesterday... So just running the humidifier isn't enough.

  31. blackbird

    wonderful grape / 20453 posts

    Run two humidifiers?!

  32. Mrs. High Heels

    blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts

@blackbird: haha I would try that if his room wasn't already really small! even with one humidifier, the room is quite steamy by morning.

  33. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@QueensBee: haha, I definitely didn't feel 100% confident about getting pregnant when we did, but we had always said we wanted two close in age, preferably under two years apart, so when Xander was 6 months, even though I definitely didn't feel ready for baby #2, I went off BCP. And then when AF came back at 9.5 months, I pretty was like "Gotta stick to the plan!" And when Hubs got reluctantly on board to start TTC, I was like "Okay, this is happening NOW!" hahaha. I think I really talked both myself and my Hubs into it just because I know this is what I'll want (once we're out of the hard baby parts)!

I'm having a low moment. I turned in my pumping room key almost a month ago and I just had to go to HR and ask for it back.

I traveled overnight last night with only my manual pump. I just can't get anywhere close to empty with it. I'm scared of clogged ducts and mastitis. I hope this is a one time thing. I am so over pumping.

  35. Mrs. High Heels

    blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts

@Corduroy: I'm sorry, this was me a month ago. I had weaned J completely, and I actually DID end up with clogged ducts and mastitis, so I had to keep pumping at least once a day to prevent that from happening and wean myself off the pump slowly.

  36. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Corduroy: Awww, I'm sorry!! I hope you can retire the pump very soon!!

Ugh girls, my poor baby is sick and has been awake for the last hour.

Also, I forgot to mention this (and it won't be impressive to @Smurfette because her kid is a genius), but I'm so impressed by how much Xander understands, even if he doesn't say much! The other day, he was playing in the living room and I was on the couch and I said "Xander, can you get Mama's socks and give them to me?" My socks were in two different spots because he had thrown them earlier, but he immediately went over, picked one up, went over to the other one and pick that up, and then walked over and handed them to me!

  37. QueensBee

    pear / 1718 posts

@Corduroy: So sorry you are dealing with this. I hope your boobs adjust soon and stay healthy.

@Adira: Wow, that IS smart!! Pete would never be able to do that right now. We are still waiting on a single word over here! And be nice to @smurfette... R is totally going to be running this country in a few years!
Regarding TTC, yes, I think even in October we will both be like, "Holy crap, are we really going to do this all over again?!" At the same time, we really want at least one, possibly two more LOs, so I know we'll both be excited once we get going....

    Hope Xander feels better soon!

@Smurfette: So odd that she'll eat more at daycare! These babies can be so confusing And I just lovvvve that smiling photo you posted on IG! I am totally voting R for president in 2034.

  38. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: What wrong with him? It is so crazy how they are starting to get things now. I am trying to get R to out her dirty clothes in the hamper. No luck so far but she loves taking her clothes off. Esp her shoes and socks in the car.urg!
@Adira: @QueensBee: Haha ladies! She does already have a presidential name.....

  39. AprilFool

    nectarine / 2591 posts

@Adira: I wish H understood me like that. She just looks at me and smirks.

@QueensBee: I am already nervous about TTC in Nov. I am not sure what to do, I know we want to get the baby stage over with. Might just stop the pill and see what happens.

  40. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@QueensBee: haha, that's pretty much how I was in regards to TTC. I was just like "Are we really doing this???" but once we got going, I got really excited about it! Of course, now I'm pregnant and I'm thinking "OMG, what did we get ourselves into???" But I know in the end it will all be worth it!

@Smurfette: I think he just has a cold, but I don't know!! He just woke up about an hour after going to bed and then was just whining. I went in there, and just me being in the room seemed to calm him down. I stayed with him for about 10 minutes and then left, but then he started with the whining again. So I went in again and had to stay until he fell asleep!

And I will be soooo impressed when R puts her clothes in the hamper! There's no way Xander's anywhere near doing anything like that! I suspect fetching my socks was a total fluke, haha.

@AprilFool: That's how Xander is MOST of the time! Especially if I'm telling him not to do something, haha!
