@Silva: A friend went back to work PT when her LO was one and it took a good few weeks for him to adjust.

@cheert16: Hopefully you hear something soon!

@ALV91711: Eat is the sign that Xander uses the most! He knows "more" as well, but only uses it if I use it first and then he's like "Yeah, more!" and does it (although, obviously, he doesn't SAY that).

@cheert16: YAY!!! So glad everything is okay!!!

So I feel like superwoman. Last night I gave Xander's hair a trim. Or, at least, I cut just the long parts at the back of his neck. It's totally crooked, but better than it was, haha.

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@Adira: You are brave, I don't think I could go near Isaac's head with a pair of scissors.

Isaac's newest word is amen. About a week or so ago they told me at daycare he said it, but I've never heard it. Today he was saying it most of the way home. Then at dinner time he got into his highchair, folded his hand, said amen and started to eat. It was so cute.

  9. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@ALV91711: haha, I was really nervous! Last time when we were trimming the hair around his ears, it took two of us to hold him down while he screamed bloody murder the entire time! This time I did it while he was in the bath and he couldn't really see what I was doing and was totally distracted, so it worked! His haircut is crooked, but it's not super noticeable!

OMG, that is soooo adorable that Isaac is saying amen! Especially before eating! How cute!!

  10. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@Adira: They say a prayer before lunch at daycare, so that is where he learned it.

Cutting his hair in the bath is a good idea.

@Adira: smart to do in the bath!
    @ALV91711: so precious!

We had night 3 of MAJOR tantrum at dinner. Tonight at least Dad was home so I made him deal with it. Of course she lasted 5 mins before she climbed back in the high chair and wanted DH to feed her. She still didn't eat but then spit up later so I know she is getting a new tooth, or 3!

@Smurfette: Poor thing. Which teeth are coming in? Hopefully they are in quickly.

@Smurfette: Oh my gosh! So glad your husband was home to help you with the tantrums! Having to deal with tantrums alone is so hard! And how many teeth is that girl going to get??? It seems like she has them all already, haha. I hope they come in quickly and she feels better soon!

@ALV91711: one bottom and both top canines. The other bottom already broke free.
@Adira: last night was so bad. I even called my Mom asking what do I do. I just wanted to cry but I knew that would make it worse.

  15. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@Smurfette: I'm glad it is the weekend and your DH is home to help you out through this. Did your mom have any good advice?

I just can't wait for all this teething to be done for all our sakes.

We ran out of teething tablets and that is the only thing Isaac will let us give him, he just spits out tylenol or anything like it. His second molar is breaking through and it looks like his top two canines are on the way.

@Smurfette: Grrr... friggin' internet lost my post.

I'm so sorry - it must be so hard to solo parent most of the time. I don't know how you do it. You're amazing. I really hope these teeth come in quickly and then you're done with teething for a while!

Catching up- @Smurfette: we've got a bunch of teeth coming in too... A bottom molar and finally his front bottom one Taft never came in, the top molars that came part way and stopped, and his canines-areas look swollen. Sheesh.
We are back from a long vacation and trying to settle back in. He had a rough night last night and is fighting sleep as we speak. Time changes suck.

I got a look in H's mouth yesterday and in the last few days she's had 4 teeth break through and the last one is coming right behind them. I knew the bottom three were on their way but was totally surprised by the top two canines.

  19. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@ALV91711: She said to just leave her in the crib and for me to walk away and compose myself. It helped! Then R calmed down once I went to get her.
@Adira: I don't have a choice so I just do it. Now it is the norm. But it is still really hard at times.
@travellingbee: Hopefully he slept better and gets back on regular time.
    @AprilFool: teething sucks!

  20. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@travellingbee: Hopefully it doesn't take long to settle back in.

@AprilFool: Hopefully they are in and done soon.

@Smurfette: Mom's are awesome. Glad her advice worked.

Wow, I just made a list of words Isaac says and he is up to 13 now. That is just crazy!

  21. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@ALV91711: That's an awesome number of words! I just made a list too and Xander says 10, but I've heard 4 others at least once. He's only consistent with 10 (although he's kind of stopped saying Mama recently, the jerk).

Girls, I'm so proud of myself! I've been nagging Hubs for MONTHS to install our new baby gate at the top of the stairs (we have one that we use, but we weren't able to install it completely because of the way the banister and wall line up, so we've been using basically a bungee cord to keep it closed and it takes two hands to hook it up and open it, so it's a pain in the butt) and he hasn't been doing it, so I finally learned how to use a drill and did it myself! So happy to have that task done!

I ALSO finally installed the cabinet locks on our kitchen cabinets that have the dishwasher detergent and other chemicals. We've always just followed Xander when he's in the kitchen because those cabinets weren't secure, but now they are! Yay!!

  22. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@Adira: Yay for baby proofing!! It will make life easier to not have to follow him everywhere, especially once the baby is here.

OMG, today was the looongest afternoon ever. Isaac was not feeling well, had a hard time having any sort of nap and whined most of the afternoon. But then he went to bed easy tonight. I hope he feels better tomorrow so he can go to daycare, we are supposed to be having a date day. But at least if he is not feeling good I already have the day off to spend at home with him.

@ALV91711: I love watching T learn new words. It's really amazing. I'm just learning about this "day date" concept...may have to implement it soon. Hope you can still enjoy yours!

Hi everyone! We are back from a week away with limited internet and it's been so nice reading everyone's updates! We also have some positive developments to report...

In hindsight, I think Pete had a bit of a language explosion this month. He went from having only one or two words and no signs at the beginning of summer, to having 7 words that he uses regularly and another 5 that he says occasionally. Plus, he now signs an additional 5 words, so I finally feel like we are in a good place.

The best part of all the new language was today when he said, "Hi Dada!" for the first time. He has never said dada or hi before, so it was quite surprising to hear him say both words together! And even though he still won't call me Mama, he says it when I point to a photograph of myself so I'm confident that he knows what to call me and that he can physically say the word. I just love to hear his soft high pitched little voice and I cannot believe that one day he will have the deep voice of a man. Crazy.

Plus, everything is just so much easier now that he can communicate better. He even tells me when he is pooping (he does the sign for "help!" and then pulls on the back of his diaper), so I think that's a positive development for potty training. I hope this trend continues as he learns more words and signs!

Also, he was much less reliant on the pacifier for this trip. He truly was pacifier-free for most of the day! He only used it when sleeping or in his car seat, and occasionally if he was super cranky for some reason. No longer a complete addict, thankfully.

@AprilFool: Wow, 4 teeth all at once! I guess it's good to get them over with as quickly as possible!

@Adira: I love that you grabbed a drill and installed it yourself! Those gates are not easy. I'd be super proud too! Way to go!

@Silva: Sorry to read that the first week back at work was a little rough for T. We'll be making the transition back to 4 days of daycare in two weeks and I'm dreading it. I hope this week is a better one for you!

@Smurfette: Moms give such smart advice. Sorry you are dealing with those tantrums, especially alone. I hope she was feeling better this weekend! Only a few more weeks until your vacation, right? I'm so excited for you to have a week to have your DH around!

@travellingbee: Your vacation looked so delicious and beautiful on IG! I hope L adjusts to the time change quickly. It sounds like you are in the thick of teething too!!

@ALV91711: Gaahh, we are not particularly religious but that Amen story is the cutest thing I've heard all week! So sweet that he says it before his meals! Beyond adorable.

@cheert16: So happy to hear the good news about baby #2! What a relief!

@ALV91711: Glad he at least went to bed okay! Hope he's feeling better today!

@QueensBee: That's awesome about Pete's word explosion! And saying "Hi Dada!" I'm still trying to get Xander to say "Hi" along with something else, although he rarely says hi. I hope he surprises us someday like Pete did! Also awesome development with the pacifier!!! Sounds like you're on your way to weaning it!!

@ALV91711: R took an hour nap both days this weekend. She was crabby pants all afternoon, whinny, wanting to be held, it was really frustrating.
@QueensBee: Wow! P is doing great!! Awesome news about the pacifier. Ha, R pulls on her diaper but then hasn't pooped, so I am jealous of that. I love the Hi Dada. R will say nite nite or bye bye but that is all. I did start a list on my phone and she has about 16 words now, granted she most she has said once. All weekend, she was calling DH Mama, he was getting so mad! We go on vacation in a month!! It can not come soon enough.

Ugh it's monday. That is all.

    And molars suck. That, too.

  28. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

Isaac woke up with a slight fever so I kept him home today. Although he is acting more himself, eating and drinking water, so that is good. After saying how easy he went to bed he had a terrible sleep. Just lots of moaning, tossing and turning. Kept me up a lot last night. I really hope he naps today because I could sure use one.

@QueensBee: That is great that he's had a word explosion. I can't believe he said Hi Dada, that is adorable. It must be hard to go back home after being at the lake.

This year we didn't do any trips, but early next summer we are planning a beach trip close to where we are from. That will be our first family trip since Isaac was 3 months.

@Smurfette: It is so exhausting when they are crabby and whining. And makes for a long day. Hopefully she is happier today and naps well.

@Silva: Day dates are awesome. We've only had one but it was so nice to spend the whole day just the two of us. I get one day off a month so hopefully we will be able to continue to have day dates on these days.

    @blackbird: Molars suck big time!

  30. QueensBee

    pear / 1718 posts

@blackbird: It's true. Pete was inconsolable on some of the nights when his molars were coming in. He thrashed around and didn't even want to be touched. I don't miss those days. Hope they break through soon!

@ALV91711: Sorry you guys had to cancel your day date but hopefully a day at home will prevent him from getting any sicker!

I caved this morning and just spent way too much money on crib bumpers from amazon. After sleeping great in his travel crib at the lake all week, Pete was up screaming at 2:30am today. We tried CIO it out until 3am which is when I gave up and brought him into bed with us, He was then awake for the day promptly at 6am! I'm hoping that the new bumpers will help contain his pacifier at night and perhaps help him feel more secure and cozy. No idea. I just know that I can't go back to work with choppy sleep from 2-6am in a few weeks. We need to find a solution!

  31. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@QueensBee: Really hoping the crib bumpers work for you!!!

So Xander has become obsessed with light switches and turning lights on and off. He just LOVES it. So yesterday, he grabs a kitchen chair, pushes it against the wall, climbs up onto it, and then stands up so he can reach the light switch and just spent 10 minutes turning the kitchen light on and off!

Dangerous, but I'm kind of proud! And seriously, what baby proofing can I do to prevent this??

  33. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Oooh, that's kind of cool! Although I'm more worried about him climbing and standing on the chair in the kitchen than actually flipping the light switches. I'm just worried he'll fall on the tile. Although maybe if he can't flip the switch, he'll stop doing it in general?

  34. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: they make cords that hang so kids can pull it themselves. Maybe something like that and he won't have to get on the chair.

  35. Adira

@Smurfette: Maybe I'll have to look into something like that!

I now know why we were up at 2am last night.... bottom incisors! They started popping through the gums today. Pete was gnawing on his hands and drooling like crazy all day. I gave him a nice juicy dose of Motrin tonight and I'm really hoping we have a better night!

@Adira: Pete's also learned that he can climb on chairs or his stroller to reach higher points of interest. No advice for you on how to stop it! I just try to keep a general eye on him without hovering like a crazy women.

    Hi there everyone...
Sorry to have gone completely mia. Life has been crazy with a stomach bug from hell (I was out of work for nearly 2 weeks) and seriously just so much to do at work after that. Uff...

Glad to read you and your LO are doing mostly ok except for teething hell. I don't know what is wrong with B right now. He won't sleep alone in his bed once he wakes which is usually right around the time we (or I) go to bed. So in the last two weeks the only way we all got at least some sleep is to take him to our bed. Hope it's just a phase and over soon. If we leave him in his room he screams with such persistance I'm actually scared that he'll throw up.

Oh and little B is getting a little sister. Which has me excited and scared at the same time.

@Adira: Your baby gate post inspired me to try to install this wall mount paper towel holder, which DH has also been putting off:
    http://www.globalindustrial.com/p/janitorial-maintenance/hand-dryers-towel-dispensers/janitorial-towel-dispensers/quick-load-paper-towel-holder-wall-mount-640282?infoParam.campaignId=T9F&gclid=CLzRwLSYjsACFSxk7AodAywAPw&gclsrc=aw.ds
I've been drilling all morning and I can't get the holes deep enough to screw it in! I'm so frustrated that I can't figure this simple installation out. Please send of me some of your handy toolbox vibes! Argh!

@Pumuckl: Congratulations on a girl!!! A two week stomach bug with a toddler does sound like hell. Glad you are feeling better! Pete often spends a lot of the night in our bed too. Love the snuggles but hate the interrupted sleep! Hope it's a phase!
