@Smurfette: Ooooh, thanks for the tip! I had been throwing them away because Xander occasionally would put them in his mouth and I was worried about choking, but maybe I don't need to worry about that so much anymore and that definitely sounds like a fun activity!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: Of course now that I am wanting them, we aren't giving her pouches! But I am saving the caps on milk jugs, coke bottles, etc. We don't keep the applesauce ones cause they are too small.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: haha, I should send you a care package with the tops because I've been buying Xander 20 a week!! They're totally my go-to because they're the only guaranteed fruits and veggies he'll eat at home (besides those Gerber carrots).
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: I make R veggies a couple times a week, but she won't touch them. Doing better at day care. But I hate wasting all that food. Luckily she loves fruit. She ate two fruit cups last night with her dinner, which also was cheese and 1.5 hot dogs!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Yeah, Xander will only eat those Gerber diced carrots at home. And the only fruit he'll eat at home is banana and watermelon, but half the time he just throws them on the floor when I give them to him. So I keep giving him pouches, though I hate it because they're so expensive!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
So Xander has become obsessed with facial features. Half the time when I'm holding him and he's at eye level with me, he'll grab my ears and then point to my eyes and nose and mouth, etc. He'll even say "tees" (teeth) and "eyes" and today he said "nose" for the first time.
Any other LOs interested in stuff like this?
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: R loves for us to ask her where nose, teeth, belly, mouth, ears, hair, toes, and hands are. She says nose and teef! But she loves to poke us in the eyes.

Ladies I was so sad today. I found out that Isaac's best buddy is no longer going to daycare. I guess his grandma moved here and is taking care of him. Those two boys had so much fun together and all the teachers have told me that they are best friends.
@Corduroy: You are so lucky that her molars came in while you were gone.
@shopaholic: I can't even imagine traveling that far with a toddler. That is awesome that she is taking an interest in the potty. Isaac usually sits on his while he waits for his bath, but we think he thinks its a toy.
@Pumuckl: That is nice that he can reach his toys to play with in the morning.
@Smurfette: That is so smart to keep the lids. I'm going to have to do that too.
@Adira: Isaac loves belly buttons. He knows some of his body parts but can't say the words. This morning he discovered blowing raspberries on my stomach, it was hilarious.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@ALV91711: Could you get his number to organize a play date?
pomegranate / 3601 posts
@ALV91711: You should definitely try to set up a playdate.
The toys would have been great this morning but he decided on a scream fest shortly after midnight tonight! Seriously, he was acting like he was possessed. He finally quieted down but would not lay back down. All he would do was sit in his crib. Whenever I moved an inch it started all again so finally after nearly half an hour (and I was a seriously tired mama at this point) I gave up and just took him to bed with me. So tonight was crappy!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: haha, yes, Xander loves poking us in the eye too! He'll even reach under our glasses to do it!
@ALV91711: The same thing happened to Xander. His best friend recently got pulled out and is going to a different daycare. I'm so sad for him.
Random question for you moms with your kids in daycare: are you FB friends with your LOs teachers??
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Pumuckl: I know some of the other parents are FB friends with Xander's teachers, but I'm not. I wasn't sure if I was the weird one or not, haha.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: Nope!! Her old teacher follows me on IG so she can see pics of R but that was only after we left.
@Pumuckl: poor guy and Mama!

@Smurfette: Okay, I'm glad I'm not the only one not FB friending the teachers!!

Good morning!
Pete had an awesome full day at daycare yesterday. He didn't cry when DH dropped him off, ate all his food, and napped for three hours. When I arrived to pick him up, he had just woken up from his nap (he had the cutest bedhead!), and was signing for "more" when he saw the other kids playing outside. His teacher gave him an oatmeal cookie that they had baked in the morning as a snack for the car ride home, which he happily ate as I put him in car seat. It was such a great first day for him! I'm so so relieved and hope all the days are as good as this one.
The main negative is that the farther location did add almost 45 minutes to my afternoon commute. I left work at 2:30pm, and finally pulled into the driveway with Pete at 4:20pm. I can try to streamline the trip a bit but it's definitely a schlep!
@ALV91711: Yes, you should definitely ask for his number so the boys can have a playdate. That would be so cute! Baby besties!
@Adira: Hmmm no, I never even considered it! As a teacher myself, I really wouldn't want my students' parents following me on FB so I wouldn't never send a "friend request" to my kids' teacher either. Pete's old daycare did have its own private FB page and I did follow that because I like to see photos of what they're doing each day.
@Pumuckl: You must be exhausted! I wonder what was bothering him so much? Ack, so sorry you had such a rough night!
@Adira: Happy to hear he is settling in well to his new room too! Pete will point to his different body parts if we ask him, "Where's your --?" but he doesn't say the words yet.
@Smurfette: "Teef!" So cute!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@QueensBee: So glad to hear Pete had an awesome day!!! And 3 hours for a nap at daycare is AMAZING!!! Do all the kids nap at the same time?? Bummer about the longer commute though, but sounds like it might be worth it!
Great to hear your insight as a teacher!! I know that one of the teachers in Xander's infant class (the youngest one) was FB friends with a lot of the other parents, so I didn't know if that was a thing or something! She's never asked to be friends with me, so I don't know who's initiating all these friendships either. It seemed like it was better NOT to be FB friends with a teacher so I can maintain that professional relationship with her, but I had no idea what other people were doing!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@QueensBee: Three hours?!?! I do a happy dance if we get 2!
pear / 1718 posts
@Adira: @Smurfette: I know, three hours is even excessive for a nap in his own crib! I think he was probably extra exhausted since he's not used to all the excitement of school yet. I'm so curious how long he naps today...
@Adira: The daycare is in a converted house and they have six cribs in one bedroom on the first floor. It's very dim and cool and quiet in there. It makes ME want to take a nap! I was worried he wouldn't sleep with other babies in the same room but I guess he can do it! They are moving the "woddlers" to cots in January when they expand and the infants move to the house next door.
Some of my colleagues have become FB friends with a few parents after the kids have graduated from their grade level, but I have been able to avoid it so far. I'd be much more comfortable with them following me on IG since there's less personal information and I have more control over the photos posted of me.

I forgot to mention this, but based on our conversation about utensils, I started giving Xander a fork with his food and actually putting his food on a plate, haha. Half the time he just holds the fork, but other times, he'll pick up his food with his hands and then put it on the fork and then eat it off the fork!

@QueensBee: I'm so jealous that Pete is adjusting so well to day care. L's been crying all day everyday for 4 straight days. Brutal. And now he has a cold too!!! Which he has of course given me. Can't win.
He's saying lots of words all of a sudden. He's coming out with multiple new ones a day. Bird, hot, hat, blueberries, toes, poopie
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@travellingbee: Sorry to hear that L isn't adjusting well to daycare! Hopefully he'll get the hang of it in a few more days. And I totally hear you on the colds. Xander made us sick for a year after he started daycare. Hopefully it's not as bad for you guys.

@Adira: Yay for the fork! LO 2 is so rough with hers....stab, stab, stab!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@autumnlove: haha, at least she knows how to stab!! Xander hasn't figured that out yet. He uses his like a spoon sometimes, which works sometimes, but then he'll try to spoon his yogurt with it...
pear / 1718 posts
@travellingbee: Oh no, that is such a bummer and must be stressful for you. And a cold already?! Poor guy and poor Mom. I'm sure he'll grow to love it again and I hope that happens soon!
Awesome news about the language though! Poopie is pretty cute...

Isaac was supposed to have his first haircut today but he had a later than normal nap and missed it. We rescheduled for next weekend.
@QueensBee: I hope this week continues to be great at daycare. Hopefully the longer commute home is worth it.
@travellingbee: Hopefully you are both feeling better and this week at daycare goes better. It is amazing all the new words all of a sudden. Does he actually use poopie when he goes or has to go?
Today when Isaac was signing more he was saying it too. It was so cute!
We had such a fun weekend. DH set up Isaac's outside play thing on Friday after work and Isaac just loved it. He laughed the whole time he was on it before bed. Then Saturday he played outside with the neighbour kids for hours, it was awesome. Just too bad that summer is over.
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@ALV91711: yeah but he's only said it a couple times. He's been doing that. Throwing a word out there then not using it again. He was grunting and I looked over at him and he pointed at his diaper and said poopie. Yesterday he said binky, moon, milk and bye bye car. Funny kid. Still sick but hopefully on the mend!
@QueensBee: @Adira: thanks! He never cried at his old daycare but I think it's just the age right now. He's definitely clingier than he used to be. I also just found another tooth so he's got a lot going on!
pomegranate / 3601 posts
@ALV91711: Isaac signing and saying the same things is soooo cute! Your weekend sounds as though Isaac had a blast. Since we got a return of some warmer temps and the sun here we were out a lot too. My little guy is just so much happier when he's able to play outside.
@travellingbee: Oh no, poor Lucas. Teething and getting adjusted to daycare sounds so, so rough. Glad his cold is getting better though (and hopefully your's is too.).
We started to slowly prep for our vacation. Lots of laundry this weekend. They are doing road work on the road that leads to my workplace (I have to cross a river) and the detours are just ridiculous so I pretty much work from home this week. Which is nice and not so nice at the same time. Pretty much leaves me without adult talk the whole day but I can do a couple of things around the house without anyone noticing
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
R's diapers have Mickey Mouse on them. So I every change I ask her what the diaper is, and she says diaper. Then I ask her who is on it, while she holds the new one and I wipe. She sometimes says it. But then I ask what does Mickey say and she says Tootles! She loves Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, even though she will watch for 5 mins and then take off, and then just glance at it while playing. But I always say Oh Tootles, when they say it, so she really is probably getting it from me. But none the less, it is adorable when she says it.
Also how many shots are at 18 months?

We woke up this morning and it was snowing. It wasn't sticking, but it is too early and I'm not ready for this change of weather.
@Pumuckl: I don't know if I could handle working from home every day, the adult conversation is nice. But not having a big drive would be nice.
@Smurfette: Saying tootles is so adorable. 5-10 min is about all of a show Isaac will watch too before he is off playing.
I'm glad that I have today off with this change of weather I need to put away Isaac's summer clothes and go through and see what we need for fall/winter.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@ALV91711: snowing?? It is still so hot here. And we are going to the beach next week. That's crazy!
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Smurfette: I'm jealous! Saturday was was hot here and I got a sunburn. But now it is full on fall. The snow most likely won't start sticking until October sometime.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Pumuckl: I don't think I'd be productive working from home... although I'm not that productive here either so... haha
@Smurfette: OMG, saying "Tootles" is adorable!!! And I don't know how many shots at 18 months... when is your appointment? Ours is on the 26th so I can let you know after I have it (or you let me know if you have yours first).
@ALV91711: WTF, snow??? It's still 70s here (New England)!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: Thursday! I have to do it right around her 'bday" or the shots expire and she can't go to school.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Oh, interesting! Ours seem to be a little more lenient with when they have to get them done. Let me know how it goes. Hopefully there aren't as many as there are at 12 months!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: I asked when she got her 15 month ones but I can't remember. I am hoping I can get her the flu shot so we don't have to go back for that.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Oh yeah, I hope mine does the flu shot too. I don't want to make a special trip back for that.
pomegranate / 3601 posts
@ALV91711: Snow as in the frozen stuff that falls from the skies? Wow that is early. Hope you'll have a great fall before winter though.

@Smurfette: I know we only get one shot at 18mth but it might be different in the states.
It has been really tough around here for the last week. H has not stopped whining and crying. And the tantrums!!! I am quickly losing my mind
