@Smurfette: @Corduroy: haha, yes on daycare!! I don't think ours starts until after 2, so I'm in no rush!

@ALV91711: our sleep is hit or miss. They are the sloooooowest teethers ever--as in their top molars started actually cutting through 2 months ago, and they still aren't close to having the whole tooth cut through. So, we have 2-3 days of crappy teething-related sleep and then a week or so that's fine and then repeat.

  3. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@Adira: Yuck, housework, I totally avoided that today. Guess I'll be tackling it tomorrow.

@Corduroy: I got a potty and we thought we'd put him on it before his bath to get used to it. Well that backfired, he loves sitting on it and thinks it is so much fun and would freak when we put him in the bath. So the potty is there for now but we aren't going to continue with actively using it. Like the other ladies I'm going to wait until the start at daycare and I'm not sure when that is.

@Mrs. Blue: That is slow. Isaac has almost 3 molars in 3.5 months. I just wish this teething would end, I can't imagine with two.

It was so cute this afternoon, the neighbour and her little boy came to see if Isaac could play outside. He is almost 3. They had so much fun playing together. And by playing together they pretty much just each did their own thing while we chatted and refereed.

@ALV91711: I totally didn't get as much done as I was supposed to. I wanted to at least get all the painting supplies out of Xander's new room so I can start thinking about where furniture is going to go and stuff, but nope, didn't even do that!

That is so cute that Isaac's made a little friend who's a neighbor!! All our neighbors seem to be older, so there aren't any kids close to us, which is a bummer.

  5. Corduroy

    pomelo / 5258 posts

@ALV91711: yay for neighborhood friends. LO is obsessed with the almost four year old boy next door. She doesn't know to knock on the door so she stands by the garage and yells him name. She's gone to their house every day for two weeks now. We're trying to cut down on the frequency a bit because I don't want to bother the neighbors too much.

  6. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@Corduroy: That is too cute that she calls for him.

Our whole neighbourhood is filled with kids 4 and under which is really awesome. It will be even better in a few years when they can go out and play by themselves.

@Adira: I pretty much did no housework today. We went to the library and then played outside, that was much more fun.

@ALV91711: haha, yep! I got the grocery shopping done and returned that girly onesie I accidentally bought for Xander, but otherwise, I got nothing done. We played outside a bunch too!

R will no sleep in the pack n play. All night DH tried to get her in it and she would wake up and cry. She slept in the guest room bed with DH. My Mom is getting here today so that means she is going to be sleeping in the king bed with us. This sucks.

Not a huge fan of the sand. But LOVES the splash pad and pool. I got sunburn on the first day, wonderful!

  9. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: That totally sucks that she wouldn't sleep in the Pack 'n Play and you'll need to co-bed with her. Co-bedding with Xander is a nightmare because he thinks it's just play time. Maybe keep trying with the Pack 'n Play? Will she nap in it at all?

    Sorry about your sunburn!!!

@Smurfette: oh no!!!! R looks adorable on the beach, though

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: we actually just put her down, after being up for 30 mins, and she is whinny but she is laying down. I gave her a sippy of water so maybe that is helping? Course now she is crying more. The poor girl has bags under her eyes. She seems totally fine so not sure what is up. Yesterday she would only nap on DH.
@blackbird: I think she did too. She did better once we took her water shoes off her and the longer we stayed out. Hopefully today will be better.

  12. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Maybe she just needs to get used to it. Hopefully she'll adjust and maybe nap there and then hopefully she'll sleep in the Pack 'n Play tonight! I know Xander usually doesn't sleep great in the Pack 'n Play, but he'll at least go down and attempt to sleep. Fingers crossed that she'll get used to it!!

@Adira: she wouldn't nap I don't know what to do. I hate this helpless feeling.

@Smurfette: Ugh, I'm sorry. Maybe just try again later???

@Adira: yeah will do her normal time. Her bags under the eyes are breaking my heart. Staying in the condo this morning. Weather is supposed to suck all week.:(
@autumnlove: thanks! It is so hard.

@ALV91711: Isaac has so many friends! Such a social butterfly!

@Corduroy: Awe, I love that she calls for him outside the door!

We have made quite a few neighbor-friends with kids in our new small town and they are all wonderful. The one odd thing is that Pete is seriously the only boy. On all of our playdates, there are 5 or 6 girls and Pete. It's not an issue at all and he loves playing with the ladies, but I wonder if it will always be this way!

@Smurfette: I hope R is starting to settle into vacation mode now. How did sleep go today? She sure does look cute in her beach gear. Hope you get a date night or two with DH now that your mom is around!

@Mrs. Blue: Oh my gosh, that sounds brutal.

Pete is starting to help out around the house more, which I love of course. He'll get a rag to wipe up spilt milk. He also learned how to use our step garbage can when he needs to throw something away. And on Saturday, DH and I were raking up thatch into piles and he would put it into brown bags for us. He absolutely loved it and it was just so sweet to watch him working so hard to be helpful in the yard.

He hasn't really come up with any new words in a few weeks now. I'm curious how many words our ped will ask for at the 18 month appointment, since there seems to be such a range.

  19. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@Smurfette: She looks so cute at the beach. I hope that she sleeps better tonight. A tired toddler is not fun. Too bad about the weather.

@QueensBee: That is kind of funny, around here it is almost all boys and only a couple girls. Even at his daycare it is mostly boys in the baby and toddler rooms.

That is so cute that he was helping out with yard work. It is good to start them young helping out.

I'm solo parenting tonight and tomorrow night. It is kind of tiring. I tend to be a lot more organized though because I still want to have time to relax at the end of the night. And luckily I made enough dinner last night for leftovers for both nights so I don't have to worry about cooking.

  20. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@QueensBee: That is so cute about Pete helping out!! Xander SORT of helps. He'll purposely make a mess (spill his pouch or his milk) and then demands a paper towel so he can wipe it up, haha. He's great about throwing things away though! But sometimes it'll be mail that I need...

When is your 18 month appointment? Ours is next Friday. I'm curious what our ped will say about the number of words too. She's seemed pretty relaxed about it though so far, so I'm guessing she'll really just want to make sure he has more words than he used to.

@Smurfette: You just had your 18 month appointment - I forget if you mentioned the words at all. Was your ped looking for a certain number of words at all?

@ALV91711: Good luck solo parenting! I only have to do it once in a blue moon (and usually only for one evening or one day), but it always seems so much harder just knowing you don't have backup!

  21. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: she said 15-20 besides Mama and Dada and she has about 20 but most she has said once. But she has said new ones this week. Our pedi is pretty low key about stuff.

  22. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Cool, thanks!! I'm so curious what ours will say. She seems pretty low key about this kind of thing in general though.

  23. blackbird

    wonderful grape / 20453 posts

E still doesn't say mama. She'll say "mamamamamama" though and look at me like she KNOWS what she's doing LOL. Although sometimes she says sentences that SOUND like real sentences, like "i want that" but it's so hard to tell

  24. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@blackbird: haha, she's totally doing it on purpose! Xander's actually been on a Mama strike for two months now I think. He used to say it, but hasn't in a while!! So aggravating!

@Adira: I want to see pics too! I've been wanting to paint the kid's room a pure pristine white and do something with it, but right now they share a room. I think it might be a disaster trying to paint their room with all their stuff in it, and then have it smell like paint with them sleeping in it at night.... but then I don't know when I'll ever get the chance to paint their room. Maybe I should just do it.

@Smurfette: Poor girl, hoping she naps well today and caught up on sleep last night. She's so cute in her outfit though!

@ALV91711: Aw so cute - love seeing them make friends even if side by side!

@QueensBee: What a good little helper you have! The only thing J has been helping with these days is that he can throw away his own trash. I can't wait to put him to work, muahaha... jk

@Adira: We don't get an 18 month appointment. I wonder if its because we switched to a high deductible plan. Boo. I think my ped is pretty low-key too about the words.

@blackbird: J looks at me and calls me dada all the time!

  26. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Mrs. High Heels: I know, I'm such a slacker!! I haven't even taken all the protection off the floor or anything! I need to just get to it, but the room is right next to Xander's current room, so I'm too nervous to do anything at night after he's in bed in case I wake him up. I'll clean it out and get photos this weekend if I don't get to it beforehand!

Bummer about not having a 18 month appointment. When is your next one? 2? And Xander calls me Dada too.

  27. Mrs. High Heels

    blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts

@Adira: Oh I would be nervous too! Will you be doing it over the weekend then or maybe one of your Fridays off? I was just watching a youtube video on how to paint a room yesterday!

    - I have never painted a room before, so I need all the help I can get! Don't want to completely screw it up, haha.

Yea, our next appt is at 2.

Ugh, LO 2 woke up covered in chunky puke. It was kinda dry so she slept in it for hours. No temp...random stomach bug?

  29. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Mrs. High Heels: Yes, hopefully I can clean out the room this weekend and then start moving his furniture in. Although I'm still waiting for his new dresser to arrive. I'll do it on the weekends and my off-Fridays. Hubs actually took off my last two off-Fridays from work to paint!

As far as painting goes, it's not TOO difficult, but it helps that Hubs totally know what he's doing! He used to paint houses over the summers in college. He handled all the edging while I used a roller to do the rest. He's good enough at edging that we didn't put tape on the ceiling or around the door frames - we just put it on the baseboards to protect from any splatter or dripping. But if you're new, I'd def put tape everywhere!

As far as the prep, I dusted the baseboards, but that was pretty much the only prep I did! I definitely didn't bother cleaning the walls like that lady is doing in that video! Also, depending on your room and the paint you get, you may not need primer. I got a Primer & Paint type of paint, so we didn't need to do the extra priming step. We just used our paint and did two coats. Also - totally skipped the "sand and clean" step!

@autumnlove: Poor baby!! Hope it's just a random stomach thing and she's already feeling better!

  31. Mrs. High Heels

    blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts

@Adira: Wow, you watched the video already?! You're quick. Thanks for the tips - those shortcuts are helpful!

@autumnlove: Poor girl! Hope she feels better today, and that it's just a fluke!

  32. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Mrs. High Heels: Just don't tell my boss.

Also, not sure if this will help you, but here are the supplies we used when painting Xander's room:

Small paint bucket with handle (for Hubs to carry around edging)
3" straight paint brush (for edging)
    Paint Tray
Paint Tray Liners <-- definitely get these so you don't have to wash your paint tray
    9" Roller w/ extendable handle
    9" general use roller covers
    FrogTape Painter's Tape
    Ladder
    Drop Cloths
    Paper towels

Also, I'm not sure if the video mentioned it because I watched it without sound, but you'll want to remove all your outlet covers and cover the outlets with painter's tape to protect them.

  33. Mrs. High Heels

    blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts

@Adira: SUPER helpful - I started making a list of supplies based on that video, but yours are better. DH's dad used to be a painter (now he has dementia or else we would've asked him to paint the room), so we have some of those supplies just laying around. The video didn't mention the outlet covers - glad you said that! Their room is very small and a simple rectangle shape so it shouldn't be too difficult. We'll probably need to take off the curtain rods too.

  34. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Mrs. High Heels: Yep, definitely take down the curtain rods and hardware so you can just paint over the spot and not worry about it. Also take off the light switch cover. And if you have a phone jack in the room, take off that cover too BUT take note of where the wires plug into the back - or maybe just cover it with painter's tape - that was the one complicated cover for me! And when you put painter's tape on your baseboards and door frames and stuff, use your nails to really press it down and make a good seal or you'll have paint getting behind it (we did a terrible job of this in Xander's new room and Hubs had to spend an hour scraping paint off the baseboards).

  35. Mrs. High Heels

    blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts

@Adira: Thank you for all the helpful tips!! I'm going to compile all your comments into a word doc so I remember. I know I'm going to forget all this when the time comes, haha... I still blame mommy brain.

(So sorry for hijacking this thread!)

@Mrs. High Heels: You're welcome! And I'm the same way! I keep a ton of "notes" in my mail drafts so that I can add to them easily no matter where I am. Good luck with painting whenever you get to it!

@blackbird: my pedi told me it is totally normal for her to say Dada when she knows it isn't Daddy. She says it cause she can't say what she wants to say.
