@Adira: thank you! last year we lasted all of 3 houses before the kids were over it!

  2. Adira

@Mrs. High Heels: haha, good to know! I'll have to see how well Xander napped and if it was crap, I'll just hit up the 3-4 houses I know will actually want to see him and skip the rest!

  3. Mrs. High Heels

    blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts

@Adira: yea, they won't know the difference! just dress him up, take a few cute pics, go to a few houses, and call it a day

Trick-or-treating was a bust. He did NOT like it one bit! He liked his costume, but I think he's scared of the dark - he didn't want to walk to our neighbors, so we ended up carrying him, and then he got scared of the Halloween decorations people had on their porches! We stopped at three houses (people he knows) and he clung to me the entire time! Oh well!

On another note, we got our insurance information for Xander's hospital stay. Grand total: $12,636.00. Our bill: $836.88. Not as bad as I feared!

No trick or treating for us today as planned. We got rained out! Usually this time of year is snow not rain. Isaac wore his costume at daycare this afternoon. Then after dinner tonight he put it on again for some photos and then played wearing it until bed time. I'm just glad that we can skip out on going out when he is young and doesn't know any different.

@Adira: That is a crazy bill. Glad that most of it is covered by insurance at least. I can't even imagine having to worry about that when your baby is sick.

@Mrs. High Heels: Hope the kids had fun with their friends tonight.

@Smurfette: Poor R. Hope she is feeling better soon. At least she was able to dress up and she won't remember missing out on the festivities.

@QueensBee: I guess at least you didn't have to spend money on the jersey. Do you know what your making for food yet?

@photojane: I'm not ready to think about #2 either. I'm excited for all the mama's that are having #2 and can't wait to hear all about it.

@Pumuckl: That is cute that he wants to wake up the other kids so they can play.

  6. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: that is cheap. We paid about $3K total for Rs. Sorry he didn't like ToT. They are still young to get it.
@ALV91711: at least he liked his costume!

R had a rough afternoon. Took almost 30 mins of crying to get her in the costume. Just took pictures outside. She seems to have a mild case so hopefully she will be able to go back to school on Monday. Getting hard to entertain Her at home.

  7. Corduroy

    pomelo / 5258 posts

@Smurfette: Sorry about the HFM. Wow $3k? Medical bills are crazy.

LO had more fun tonight than I expected. We did four houses early and then we all decided to come home. The head falling off a talking skeleton kind of sealed the deal for us. After dinner other TOTs started coming by and she was curious so she asked to go "outshide". She decided she wanted to knock on some more doors after watching kids. She even ended up going out a third time. This kid just loves to go outside. She didn't eat any candy but it was mommy's birthday so she got some cake.

I'm just glad today is over. I love Halloween but morning sickness is kicking my butt. So ready for bed... at 8:14. Who wants to put my lady bug to bed for me?

  8. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Yikes, $3K is a lot!! Do you have one of those high deductible plans? Our bill actually would've been more, but we hit the out-of-pocket max for the year, so I think the bill ended up being half what it would've been. Though that's still less than $3K!

R's afternoon sounded like Xander's, except that R is actually sick. Xander was hysterical getting into his costume and even just going outside. I have no idea what his issue was. Hope R is feeling better today!

@Corduroy: So impressed your LO was actually into trick-or-treating!! Xander was such a scaredy-cat and wouldn't even walk to the houses!! He normally loves being outside, but I guess not at night...

So fingers crossed, but I think DST might not be as rough for us as I was anticipating. We kept Xander up until 7:30 p.m. last night and he ended up sleeping in until 7:30 this morning! So we've been adjusting his schedule all day by an hour and will be putting him to bed at 8:00 tonight. Hopefully that means he'll sleep until 6:30/7:00 tomorrow and we'll be good!

Have other people started prepping for the time change? How's it going so far?

  9. Corduroy

    pomelo / 5258 posts

@Adira: I don't know if our time change prep backfired or we finally hit the sleep regression. We moved bedtime 15-20 min later and we had 3:51, 4:15, 5:30, 6:10 (nice birthday surprise), and 5:15 wake ups this week.

  10. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

    @Corduroy: so cute!
@Adira: I don't remember. I know my OB bill was like $3500 and I paid $1200. Hospital was around $13k and we paid $1200. Our insurance isn't great. Another reason we can't afford another.

I went to BRU this morning to look for a Minnie costume, but they were sold out. But I got Snow White and Sophia for 8.99 each. Saving for her birthday!

    blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts

Jaren did great trick-or-treating this year. He was with a lot of older kids Noelle's age. Maybe that's what happens when you're the youngest! He loved getting all the candy door to door and learned quickly what the whole trick or treating thing was all about.

@Smurfette: Do you know if you have PPO or HMO? I had PPO with Noelle and we paid an OOP of $2000. HMO with Jaren, and paid $200. What a difference!

I'm not prepping for the time change. I guess we'll just see what happens when it comes!

  12. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

    @Mrs. High Heels: PPO!

We are keeping her up a little late but I am just going to bed early since I know she will be up by 630 at the latest.

  13. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Ugh, that reminds me that the new baby will have his own out of pocket max! I think I have around $1200 left for my own max, but then the baby is his own entity. Blah! We have a PPO too.

That's awesome about the costumes on sale today!! Smart!!

@Mrs. High Heels: Good luck tomorrow morning with the time change!!

  14. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@Smurfette: That is a good deal for the costumes. I bought some decorations, a toddler cape and some things for goodie bags for daycare next year all for 75% off.

@Mrs. High Heels: That is so awesome that he got trick or treating and had fun.

@Corduroy: Happy Birthday! Sounds like she had a fun time.

@Adira: Last night Isaac went to bed almost an hour late and then was up an hour early this morning. Tonight he went to bed about half an hour later than normal, so we will see what tomorrow brings. Next weekend we go to my moms and they are behind us an hour, poor guy is going to be so messed up in the next couple weeks.

  15. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@ALV91711: I'm actually worried the later bedtime might backfire... fingers crossed they both sleep decent tonight!! And yikes about your Mom's hour difference!! Hope it doesn't end up being too bad.

  16. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@Adira: How did last night go? Not too bad for us. He did wake up once in the night, but went back to sleep fairly quickly. He actually slept until 6, so 5 new time. Not too bad since lately he's been up around 5.

  17. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

R slept till 645, so 745 normal, so that is good. Two days of no new spots so we are going to send her to day care tomorrow.

  18. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@ALV91711: @Smurfette: Our adjustment to DST was pretty good. He was up at 6:15, which is mostly normal, though a little early. Hoping he sleeps in a little bit longer tomorrow though.

  19. Adira

Ugh, tried to do a home photo shoot of Xander to have new pictures to give our family, but it was basically a disaster. Couldn't get him to look at the camera and he kept moving around so most of my shots are fuzzy. Got one shot we're going to go with if we don't get any better later, but I don't love it.

@Adira: Love the chilling dude pose I can never take a non-blurry pic of J lately he is always on the move!
Halloween nite was a pretty hectic I was running late from work and almost forgot candy to hand out and had run back to grocery store yet again for dinner prep. By the time we finished dinner it was close to 7pm so just went to 3-4 houses in the building. LO refused to wear his costume cape but he did ok with ToT and getting candy at our neighbours. I don't think he understood much, he was just excited to grab the the candy and put it into his bag He didn't get to eat any though. Maybe next year!
Daylight time change has been ok so far. J went to bed 8pm last night (which is late from usual 7:30pm) and woke up at 5:30am but I was able to put him back to sleep for another hour with me so hopefully he sleeps till at least 6am tomorrow.
Wow so many here planning ttc or pg with #2. I think we are going to be in the one and done camp. I can't imagine going thru the 1st year again!

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@silver1: Thanks! I should've gone back and checked out what my settings were last time I did this because I got better pictures before - maybe my shutter speed is set too slow or something.

Sounds like you guys had fun Trick-or-Treating!! We only went to 3 houses too. I don't even think Xander realized he was even getting candy because he refused to hold his trick-or-treat bucket, haha. But that's probably for the best since we weren't going to let him have any.

Sleep win/fail. Yesterday Isaac was so tired all day despite a good nap. He was asleep at 6pm. And although he didn't get up in the night he was awake and ready to go at 4:30. I just got up with him. Hopefully going to daycare today will help straighten things out.

@Adira: That picture is good. It is so hard to get non blurry photos these days.

@silver1: Sounds like you had fun on Halloween.

  23. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@ALV91711: That's good he slept well, but bummer he was up so early!! Xander ended up waking up around 5:00 this morning, but I think he was back asleep by 5:30. Hopefully daycare will really cement the time change for these kids!

Anyone's else LO's starting to play pretend? Isaac likes to use our pots and bowls and spoons to cook and now he has started to pretend to feed us what he is cooking. It is so cute.

  25. Corduroy

    pomelo / 5258 posts

@ALV91711: Cute! My LO pretends to fill cups of water from our fireplace insert and passes the cups to everyone that comes around. She also takes very good care of her babies. They get diaper changes, wear bibs, and take turn in her high chair eating a can of tomato paste. I look forward to cooking.

Hi everyone! I fell so behind the thread this weekend!

We had a slightly bizarre Halloween. My friend's dad passed away earlier in the week so I had to travel about 45 minutes to go to the wake on Halloween night. The following morning we all went to the funeral, burial, and lunch with the family. So, it was not the Halloween experience I expected, but we did manage to get to a few houses in costume. I'm happy that Pete's still young enough to not be disappointed that may have missed anything! And feeling thankful that my own parents are alive and healthy.

Pete continues to wake up at 4:20am every morning. Last night, he slept with us from 11pm on. I am so so so tired from five weeks of this routine. Sigh.

He is so hilarious when's awake though. He is obsessed with singing right now. He sings his ABCs (half the letters are made up but he gets through the whole tune), Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and the Itsy Bitsy Spider. I love hearing his little high pitched off key voice make up half the words...

@ALV91711: Yes, especially with his play kitchen! He pretends to cook and season foods on his fake stove. Occasionally he grabs ice out of the freezer and pretends to cook the ice!

@Adira: I think that is a great shot!

@Smurfette: Glad to hear the spots have stopped appearing! So smart to go costume shopping at the time of year for future outfits!

  28. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@ALV91711: Yes! Xander's started pretend play! He has these blocks he pretends are food and he'll put them in little bowls and nom on them. And these other blocks he pretends are cups and he'll drink from them. It's so cute!

@QueensBee: I'm so sorry about your friend's dad! That must've been tough. And OMG - that's awesome about the singing! Xander can't sing at all and doesn't even try, though he loves music.

I think we might still be in the sleep regression, though I'm not sure. I thought we were done because we had a week of decent sleep, but this week he's been waking up a couple times in the middle of the night or super early in the morning. He usually goes back to sleep okay, so it's not as bad as others have it, but it's still disruptive. Go back to STTN!

  29. QueensBee

    pear / 1718 posts

@Adira: Thanks. And sorry to hear that Xander has trouble STTN too. This morning Pete was in our bed at 3:40am. The night before he woke up at 11pm and spend the whole night with us! As much as I love the snuggles, I need a full night of sleep!

  30. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@Adira: @QueensBee: I'm feeling so zombie like from the last two nights. I hope these guys start sleeping better again.

This morning when Isaac was up and ready to play at 5am, I made DH get up with him and I slept for another hour, even though that made me quite late for work. It was the only way I could survive the day.

@QueensBee: Sorry about your friends dad. So cute that Pete is singing. Isaac says a b c when he is looking at letters or wants us to sing the song.

@Adira: That is so cute that Xander is using his blocks as pretend food. I'm hoping someone will get Isaac some play food for Christmas.

We are going to be taking Isaac to his first live show. I just bought tickets for Sesame Street Live: Let's Dance on December 6. I'm so excited to see how excited Isaac is going to be. I just bought the cheep seats since he is so young, but I think it will be a fun family afternoon.

@ALV91711: Yes! J has started playing with his sister's little dollhouse, and he likes to put little people in the bus and in the house, and pretend they're doing stuff. Such a fun stage!

@QueensBee: I'm so sorry about your friend's dad. What an unexpected change of plans, but sounds like you handled it with ease! So cute about the singing! J does the same thing - he can only sing a few random letters in the ABC song, and then he makes these hilarious grunts and noises to make up the other parts of the song. It's so funny.

@ALV91711: J was up at 5:15 this morning too! I think it has to do with the time change, we've been putting him down earlier, but of course this guy refuses to sleep any longer than necessary so he wakes up earlier. Tonight we put him down a little later again. Really hoping he sleeps past 6 am! Sesame street sounds like a lot of fun!!

@Adira: I think you captured a great pic of Xander - so cute and love his sweet smile! It's so hard to get clear pics these days of J too - he's constantly on the move, and doesn't know how to stop and pose yet!

@Mrs. High Heels: @QueensBee: So cool your little dudes are singing. B doesn't although he loves music and loves when I sing him a song.

@Adira: @ALV91711: @QueensBee: We're also part of the sleep hell club. I took B to bed with me around midnight for the last two days. I don't even remember the last time he slept a whole night in his crib. It might've been July or August? CRAZY! So ready for him to sleep normally again.

@Adira: @QueensBee: @ALV91711: @Pumuckl: We should just have a party since our kids all apparently hate night time sleep now... Sorry you guys are in the no-sleep club, too.

@Mrs. Blue: We could just put all the boys in a room together and they can keep each other company while us mom's sleep.

We are up at 5 today. Yuck. But at least he only woke me up once last night and went back to bed in his crib. I'm not even really trying to do anything to correct his sleep right now since we go away on Saturday. I think we may have to try sleep training again when we are back home.

@ALV91711: I'm hoping Xander gets some play food for Christmas too! And the live show sounds fun! You'll have to let us know how it goes!!

@Mrs. High Heels: haha, Xander gets the idea of taking a picture, because when I whip out the camera, he'll pause for a second and go "Chee!" but then immediately start moving again!

@QueensBee: @Pumuckl: @Mrs. Blue: @ALV91711: Xander actually SLEPT last night!!!! Fingers crossed it wasn't just a fluke. Hopefully all these babies start sleeping better for us soon!!
