@Corduroy: That is a lot to put up with. I hope you make it until the 4th. How long are you on your business trip for? At least that gives you a bit of a break from them. The comment about the best meal would have just pushed me over the edge.

@QueensBee: Sounds like Pete had a fun Christmas! And that's cool that he kind of got the whole Santa Claus thing. Totally cute about the train!! Good luck on your flight tomorrow!

@ALV91711: Now that Logan is here and sleeps most of the day, I find Xander exhausting!! I suddenly find myself wanting people to visit us every weekend to help entertain him!

@Corduroy: Bummer about your fridge! And wow. Your in-laws sound kind of annoying to have as guests!! How annoying that they made the tub so dirty and then didn't clean it at all!! That kind of stuff drives me crazy!

@Corduroy: that was really insensitive of your FIL to say that! your in-laws sound like a handful... i can't imagine dealing with all that. they sound really disrespectful and inconsiderate. i hope you get some peace and "me" time even though you're away for business.

@Corduroy: omg that is so rude and inapproprate!! It's like they've forgotten they are GUESTS and need to behave as such, lest they aren't welcome to return

@ALV91711: ranch is a favorite on our house. wxcept she just likes to lick it like yogurt, gross

    @ALV91711: Yes!!

Happy New Years to everyone!! Is everyone staying up to welcome the New Year? I'm not staying up because I'm still dealing with multiple MOTN feedings and we're having people over tomorrow, so I want to try to be rested!

@Adira: that is a big fat no in our house LOL. Haven't stayed up til midnight for probably 8 years now

@Adira: I'm staying up a bit later but I know I won't make it until midnight. We are at out neighbours for dinner and games, just trying yo get Isaac down here and then will hopefully be able to transfer him home later.

We stayed up! We had friends over for dinner. Fed the kids and then we ate a nice dinner while they played. Kept Reagan up later but she did great. Everyone was gone by 1115 but DH and I stayed up till 1230. Luckily R slept till 8, but I am dragging since I couldn't get to sleep till 130.

No clue how I am going to get up for work tomorrow.

    @Adira: happy birthday! Young one!

    @Adira: happy birthday!

    Happy New Year ladies!!

Everyone was out by 12, but me! I woke Dan up when the count down started, he rolled over and kissed me without saying a word, then went right back to sleep. So exciting.

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@ALV91711: @Smurfette: @Corduroy: @photojane: Thanks ladies!! My boys took me out to breakfast this morning which was fun! And Hubs tried to teach Xander how to say "Happy Birthday, Mama!" though it came out as gibberish.

@Smurfette: Sounds like you had a fun time!!! Glad R slept in for you after such a late night!

@photojane: haha, Hubs stayed up until past midnight, but he was just playing video games and didn't even see the ball drop, so no midnight kiss! But that's okay - I'm glad he didn't wake me up!

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@Smurfette: That is awesome that R slept in, sounds like a fun night.

    @Adira: Breakfast out sounds nice.

We put Isaac down at our neighbours last night and I successfully transferred him to his crib without him waking up when I came home at 10:30. He still woke up at 5am this morning even though he went to bed an hour late. So tonight he went to bed an hour early.

@ALV91711: That's awesome you did the transfer while sleeping!!! I STILL can't do that with Xander. He's such a light sleeper!

OK, I told myself I wouldn't vent about my in-laws again but WTF. DH has today off and I had today as a flex day since I traveled on Sunday. LOs daycare is open today but in-laws asked that we not send her since they want as much time with her and DH as possible. I got up with her at 5:10 as normal and entertained her all morning while keeping her quiet so DH could sleep. He wakes up at 9:30 and says his mom just texted that they are going to the city for the day alone. OK, that's fine but how about a little notice. 9:30 pm last night, fine. 9:30 am, argh! That was like 30 books and four tantruma I could have avoided. I know I sound like a horrible bitch but I'm just not the type of person that can take guests for two weeks while pregnant.

  20. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@Corduroy: I'm glad they are going home soon. That is rude that they wanted you to keep her home so they could spend time with her and then they don't even do that.

What is up with my kid, the last two nights he has woken up with a sopping wet diaper around 2am. I then change him and have to rock him for a few minutes. I can't even remember the last time I did a middle of the night diaper change.

I am looking forward to work and daycare tomorrow. It has been a fun 1.5 weeks, but it is time to get back into a routine again. Plus playing I chase you over and over is getting tiring!

Girls... I'm starting potty training tomorrow morning! WISH ME LUCK!

  23. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@ALV91711: R has been super wet overnight but not needing as many changes during the day. Holding it I guess?
@photojane: good luck!! Day care is startig to talk about it tomorrow and putting then on the toliet. I was peeing tonight and R kept saying pee pee. DH came in while I was washing my hands and she said yes when he asked if she wanted to go pee pee. But as soon as she got on the potty she freaked out. We need to buy the seat to clip on our seats. Not doing a small potty since they use a regular at school.

    cantaloupe / 6164 posts

@Smurfette: Sadie hated sitting on the big potty too! We bought a ring seat for the upstairs bathroom, and she has no problems sitting on the big potty now. We still use the potty seat downstairs. If I find anything that works with Sadie, I'll share!

  25. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@photojane: Good luck with the potty training! I hope it goes good.

I think we need to get a ring for the toilet since they use miniature real toilets at daycare. I'm going to have to find out from them when they will start putting him on the potty there and then we will start at home. He has started to sometimes say when he needs a diaper change, although he just says poopy even for wet. So I think we are getting close to being ready.

  26. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Corduroy: I don't blame you for being mad! I'd be pissed too if I kept Xander home from daycare specifically to spend time with someone and they did something else!

@ALV91711: Oh wow. Do you think he has been drinking more than usual, especially close to bedtime? I'm curious if the MOTN changes will no longer be needed once he goes back to daycare.

@photojane: Eeeh!! Good luck!! My parents got Xander a potty seat and a potty book for Christmas. I don't think he's ready to potty train, byte he LOVES sitting on the potty and having the potty book read to him over and over!

  27. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

After 1.5 weeks off of daycare Isaac was a mess today. He didn't want to get dropped off and then tonight he was just a crank and not listening. He barely ate dinner and then went to bed pretty easy. I have a feeling it is going to be a long week getting back into routine.

@Adira: He didn't have a wet diaper overnight last night and it was pretty dry this morning, so I have no clue what was going on those couple nights.

Has anyone started thinking about 2nd birthdays?

  28. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@ALV91711: he will get back in the swing of things!

Thinking about doing a Minnie party. But we will just have family again, still like 40 people, so I might not do much. Not sure.

  29. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@Smurfette: Isaac was asking to watch Mickey Mouse this morning and it made me think of R. I don't know where he came up with it though since we have never watched it before.

A family party would be fun and could be kept pretty simple.

My mom is flying out for the weekend of his birthday. I don't know if we'll have a little party or just do something the 4 of us. Either way I'm going to make Cookie Monster cupcakes for his daycare class.

@ALV91711: I am sure he heard it from another kid at day care or saw a shirt. She is obsessed. Every day we get home, Minnie, Minnie.

DD is getting to be a real handful at bedtime. Every night it's a chore getting her teeth brushed and negotiating PJs. This started about a week ago and came out of nowhere. Anyone else dealing with bedtime drama?

  32. photojane

    cantaloupe / 6164 posts

@Smurfette: Big family! There are so many cute Minnie things out there. Even if you do something small, you should be able to find party gear anywhere. Even Dollar Tree!

@ALV91711: I've always wanted to make those cupcakes. Post pictures!

@Corduroy: They're getting to the age where they start negotiating and trying to assert their will more strongly. It's fun seeing their personalities blossom, but also SO exhausting. So far we have no drama at bedtime. I got blessed with a kid who loves sleep. She asks for naps and "ni ni" But, she's definitely been trying to work me over in other ways!

  33. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Corduroy: so far she is saving the drama for other times, not bedtime.

  34. blackbird

    wonderful grape / 20453 posts

@Corduroy: My weirdo *loves* to brush her teeth. She's, ahem, "assertive", otherwise, lol.

@Smurfette: My mother bought E a minnie and mickey doll awhile ago and I found it while I was cleaning the basement (it's the GIANT ones that are basically her size, from Target) and i set them downstairs in the play area. She's so obsessed, we had to hide them from her.

@ALV91711: I started thinking about E's birthday! Pinned some ideas, mostly. Since i'll be 9 months pregnant, I'm going to rent a gazebo at the park for like $50. They have a huge playground. And I'm thinking of a cookies and milk theme. I can bake up a ton of cookies (probably make 3 kinds and make the dough early, then just freeze them) and then make a funfetti style cookie cake....and pick up some little milks from Sam's Club. her actual bday is *on* easter this year, so we'll probably do it a week late? not sure yet. mid April's usually lovely here!

  35. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@blackbird: R doesn't like her bigger Minnie doll, just the little ones. She sleeps with Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Pluto, and Goofy. Then we keep Minnie in the car. But lately she just wants them at nite nite time not during the day. But wants to watch it all day. Weekends are exhausting telling her no more!

  36. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@ALV91711: I bet he'll get back into the swing of things soon. He likes daycare, right?

@Corduroy: We're not dealing with bedtime drama, but morning drama, yes! Doesn't want to put on his pants. Doesn't want to come downstairs. Doesn't want to have breakfast. Doesn't want to go to daycare. I feel you.

@Smurfette: The fact that R doesn't like her bigger Minnie doll reminded me of Xander. He's got a ton of teddy bears and he got this little toy that came with a tiny teddy bear (like maybe 3 inches tall) and it totally freaked him out! He picked it up and looked at it all disgusted and then immediately threw it away and said "No!" hahahaha. Kids are so weird.

As far as a second birthday party, I've been really torn on what to do. I didn't grow up near family, so we never had birthday parties until I was old enough to be in school and invite my friends over. But we live close enough to relatives that I feel like I should include them for Xander's birthday because they love him so much and don't get to see him as often as they want to. So I think we'll just do a family party. Although that will still end up being 14+ people. I don't think I'll do a theme or even invitations or anything. Just call people up and invite them and have some dairy-free cake.

@Smurfette: so funny how particular they are! E also has some giant toddler sized teddy bears from MIL she likes to play with. It's like a puppy with a giant bone heh

Omg I can't believe its time already for 2nd birthday parties!! Not decided what to do yet, it will be low key and pretty casual with just family and a few close friends over. I want to do the blackboard with stats again so I can compare with 1st year
@Corduroy: Yup LO recently (re)started flailing his legs during nighttime diaper change. Its quite funny but DH is not amused. I do the evening routine and DH thinks I am too chill and should be more strict. Ah well.
@photojane: Good luck with potty training hope its going well!! J is not quite ready yet, I got a ring seat for potty so he can get used to sitting on it.
I have an international trip coming up flying solo with J and wondering about carseat/stroller options for travel and flight (12 hours +). Anyone traveled recently what did you use?

  39. silver1

    apricot / 338 posts

J is very particular about his stuffed toys too. He likes playing with teddy bear and then the monkey that plays annoying music when you press it. He wants me to press for him all the time!

@blackbird: cookies and milk at a park sounds like Sadie's dream afternoon! That will be so fun!

@silver1: We traveled internationally this summer. We brought a Cosco Scenera. We just used the strap on the back of the seat to hang it over the stroller handle. We brought her regular stroller so that we could use the basket. We gate checked the strolled and car seat!
