I think it definitely is just everyone's personal comfort level. I've seen people announce early and others who waited a long time. Every baby should be celebrated and there is no wrong answer!

Our friends and my brother and SIL announced just after 12-13 weeks saying now that they were in the second trimester it was now 'safe'.

Whereas DH's cousin and one of my cousins announced RIGHT after they got a positive, I'm talking 4-5 weeks.

Personally I see us telling people who are close (parents and maybe one or two friends) around 6-7 weeks, then everyone else closer to 12 weeks.
I want to have some time with just DH and I celebrating before our extended families go baby crazy and the parade of unsolicited advice starts.

I don't think telling at 6 weeks vs telling at 12 weeks has anything to do with whether or not the baby is celebrated. It's really just about comfort level.

We told our families once we saw a heart beat at six weeks. But we weren't open about it with others until 12 weeks and we had the results of our early genetic screening. And we never made any sort of big public announcement. I'm 31 weeks and probably 75% of my Facebook friends don't know I'm pregnant. We just aren't into drawing attention to our pregnancies. We'll post a pic when the baby is born.

I don't think anyone needs to wait until 12 weeks and they should announce whenever they want.

Some of my closest friends told me right away but some wait until 12 weeks or much later.

We told our parents around eight weeks, which ended up being just before our dating scan. I really loved that time when just DH and I knew, and would have waited longer, but he was going stir crazy!

The rest of our family, we told between 10 and 12 weeks, and I started telling work/friends after that.

I see no reason to tell early, but I'm the type who wouldn't want to have to deal with a lot of people knowing if we had an early loss. I liked having baby as a secret.

I waited till end of first trimester for my previous 2 pregnancies. With this pregnancy, we plan on announcing at 13 weeks once we get results of genetic testing.

I'd say it varies but most people seem to wait until 12 weeks to go out of their way to tell people. But they likely tell people they are super close to away.

For me, I'm pretty private and we wanted some time to digest the news for ourselves, so we waited a while before telling almost anyone. But we did tell people as we saw them before 12 weeks anyway.

We told family at 5 weeks because I was super nauseous and sick right away. I told a few people at work also simply because I needed their help! We gradually told friends after our dating ultrasound at 9 weeks and then made a FB announcement to everyone else at 15 weeks. If we have another I can't see being able to keep it quiet that long from people we see regularly because I imagine I would start showing sooner.

Publicly, 12 weeks seems to be the average.

We announced to family as soon as we heard the heart rate at 8 weeks.

I'm actually seeing a trend towards later announcements (along with gender), but friends of mine usually tell me right away. Having to "pull back" an announcement is not something I want to do again, so I announce later. I had enough people say dick-ish things to me in the past, plus I HATE being treated with kid gloves just because I'm pregnant, so I just prefer to keep to myself. I think you just have to know "your people" to know how it'll go.

I wonder if it's something about first babies and second babies? I announced to family at 8 weeks and publicly at 12 weeks with my DD. I'm just shy of 8 weeks this time and honestly, I might have to announce at work a little early because my belly is starting to pop already!

We told family at 9 weeks (after our first ultrasound) but didn't announce publicly until we found out the gender at 15 weeks.

I didn't announce on FB till almost 20 weeks since I was just waiting for gender at that point. Some people already knew before 12 weeks b/c everyone had been asking me for a while and I wasn't going to lie! So I wasn't super strict with the 12 week rule.

I told my dad and brother at 4 weeks (because I definitely would have told them if anything went wrong with the pregnancy), and we announced to extended family after my NT scan around 12-13 weeks, which is the same time I told work. I started telling friends at 6 weeks, but some of my out of town friends still don't know! I'm 20 weeks now and contemplating announcing on social media in the next month or two....

Our parents, siblings, & my best friends (I have 4) all knew pretty much as soon as I peed on the stick. Everyone else we waited until after our first ultrasound to make sure everything was okay.

I lost my first pregnancy at 10 weeks, so for the last two, I haven't told anyone early unless I'd be comfortable telling them about a loss as well. So basically immediate family only in the early weeks, then my boss (in first tri but after seeing a heartbeat), then friends and co-workers after the NT scan. Seems like most people in my social circle do the same, or even wait longer.

We will be waiting until at least 12 weeks to tell even those closest to us. Following 2 losses it just feels better for us to keep this close to our hearts for now. So I'll continue the questionable no wine drinking at family dinners and wearing of leggings and capes and giant cardigans for a couple more weeks at least

I think if I wasn't showing so early, I'd really like wait more like 20 weeks to tell work, buy can already tell thats going to be impossible.

I feel like 12 weeks is the norm and some people are a little eye-roll-y about announcing earlier, but also I feel like f those people. Miscarriage, should that happen, is nothing to hide or be ashamed of. If you'd be comfortable sharing it if it happens, announce when you pee on the stick for all I care (just don't post a pic of the stick for gods sake lol).

I wanted to wait until after the anatomy scan to share on social media, so we weren't "public" until I was 19 weeks. But starting at around 6 weeks we began telling people, beginning with our parents and best friends. I would say by 13 weeks most folks in our lives knew. We didn't do it all at once.
