This is spinoff from the other post by Babynumber1, just wondering how far along everyone was when they found their pediatrician. I am currently 35 weeks and 1 day and dont have a pediatrician. Am I way behind?

i decided on a pediatrician at the end of my 2nd trimester. You definitely want to find someone soon..

We picked ours around 32 weeks. We interviewed pediatrician's (which takes some lead time as they generally only have new parent appointments on certain days/times per week).
When we check in the hospital, they ask for our pediatrician's info and call once our baby is born so the pediatrician can come to the hospital and examine our baby.
I hope I don't deliver early, but once we selected a pediatrician, I felt better because if I do deliver early, I know our baby already has a great doctor.

We picked ours pretty early, but I'm a crazy planner. They had a thing at our hospital where they have 6-8 pediatricians there so you can walk around and talk to them, ask questions, etc. We went to that and narrowed it down from there, then we asked friends who their doctors are and they all said the same guy. So we interviewed him and that was it.

Her post prompted me to call the other two ped offices we are considering. I'm 33 weeks.
We started looking in early 2nd tri but it got put on the back burner in lieu of visiting kitchen cabinet consultants! hahhaa.
Anyway, a lot of them have monthly group sessions. Along with that one of the office only did prenatal visit at 11:15 and 4:15. That one the earliest appt I could get was one month in the future, 2 weeks before my EDD. This one is THE closest to our house.
The other one I was looking at a month too for an evening appt. I lucked out and got one for 9:00am tomorrow morning! This one I have heard the best reviews of, so we'll see.

we waited. I knew what office I wanted her to be at in the beginning but waited to find a dr. We had a referral so I just went with that dr, called about 36 weeks and that was that!

I find this really interesting- its something that just doesn't happen over here.. We have a family doctor and dentist, and that's it! If there's anything wrong with anyone you go to the doctors (unless it's clearly emergency stuff) and they refer you to the appropriate specialist if necessary. I've never seen an OB until I got pregnant- smear tests etc are all taken care of by nurses at doctors practice, and again if anything concerning pops up you'd be referred to the specialists. Best of luck with the choices you make anyway!

I finally found a pediatrician at 30 weeks. I started looking at around 25 weeks. I don't know if this is more of a problem in urban areas, but none of the pediatricians my friends and OB had recommended were accepting new patients when I called. So if you think you could encounter a similar problem, you might want to start looking soon.
Other people I've spoken to said they just waited until the baby came and ended up using the pediatrician who was on call at the hospital.

We have a co-op health plan with all of our local providers in one building, so we have a much smaller choice of 4 providers within one office. I've just started looking at them now at 21 wks, but haven't officially designated anyone. Since most of the docs/nurses in the building know one another, I'll probably just ask my OB for a recommendation based on experience with preemies. That's how I picked my OB, based on the head nurse's recommendation for who would be best in the practice with twins.

We started looking for ours towards the end of the 2nd trimester. I would start looking for one soon though because you never know when you will deliver (spoken from a mom who's baby came out 1 month early!)
