I originally planned to work up to my due date, but at 34 weeks this idea seems laughable. I'm so uncomfortable and just don't know if I can stick it out. Did you make it to your due date? What was your original plan?

Original plan was to work until week 39. My boss let me off at week 37. Not having the work those last 3 weeks was the best gift ever!

I didn't work when I was pregnant.... but I did do a temp job covering for a girl who went on maternity leave. Her boss had to force her to take off a couple of days before her due date, She felt like she had to keep doing something because it was easier for her to keep her mind off waiting for the baby to come.
I think it's different for each person, pregnancy, and job.

I was planning to do the same thing, because I've had a really easy pregnancy until about 35 weeks. But it got really uncomfortable and I started working from home. I'm 39w 1d and "officially" started my leave today.
Is working from home an option? If not, I wouldn't force yourself to work until your due date if you're miserable.

I was planning on working at the office through 39 weeks, and then working from home as needed till baby came, but then baby came at 38.5 weeks. My water broke 4 hours after I got home from the office.
I did start having more of a flexible schedule around 36 weeks- working from home, working shorter days, etc. as needed depending on how I was feeling.

Yikes - I really want to work up until my due date, but you ladies are scaring me!!! My fear with NOT working until my due date is that I'll have less time with the baby. I only get the 12 weeks off, so if I take 3 of them before I'm due, I'll only get 9 with baby.

With DD I planned to work until delivery but got put on bed rest at 39w3d and was induced at 39w6d. I worked some the last three days from home, mainly taking conference calls from bed and letting people know when I was officially going to be out. This time I plan to do the same (well hopefully not the bed rest part).

With DS I worked up till I went into labor. I was induced 2 days before my due date. I was induced on a Monday so I worked the full week before that Monday. I had a desk job and it wasn't to uncomfortable. Now I am a SAHM and also babysit a little girl. I'm not sure what my plan is this time around. I'm almost 31 weeks and still feeling fine just uncomfortable/exhausted at times. My daycare girl goes on vacation the whole week before my due date so I am hoping I go into labor sometime during then otherwise I am planning to keep watching her until my due date but I guess we will see how I am feeling. She has a back up babysitter that will take over for my maternity leave but I'm super attached to her and will be sad when she doesn't come everyday. I've been watching her since she was 6 weeks old and now she's 2 so it's going to be hard not seeing her everyday.

I stopped at 34 weeks last time and will do the same this time -- that's how maternity leave works here. And thank GOD. I don't know how people do it! I need that time and can't wait for the day to arrive.

I'm planning on working up until the very last minute possible. Only get 12 weeks off and don't want to waste any of that time. I'm only 21 weeks now so I guess let's see how I feel when I get into the late 30s!

Yup. I took a few sick days when I was too miserable to get out of bed but, I worked on a Thursday, had a company holiday Friday and went into labor Sunday.

I really need to work up until my DD since I only take 12 weeks off, 6 will be unpaid too. I want 12 weeks with baby not 9 cause I was at home by myself for 3. Now I am worried!

I stopped at 34 weeks. Maternity leave is supposed to begin 10 weeks before the due date, but I got an exception to work until 34.

I'm a teacher-I started back on contract last week, and now at 37 weeks this Friday I am definitely feeling awful...but I guess you gotta do what you gotta do!

I am in medical device sales, so I spend my day driving and calling on doctors. It's a lot of walking and in/out of the car. I am planning on working normally until 37 weeks or so, and then I am going to work from home - calling accounts on the phone and doing emails instead of in-person discussions.

I worked up until I was in labor with both of my girls. That is my plan this time around, but my job is a little bit more physical now(I work 12 hour nights as a nurse).
It is tough, but I never wanted to lose my leave time before the baby came.

I worked until I went into labor and if we were to have another I would do the same.

I plan on working up until the end, otherwise it cuts into my FMLA leave, and I want to spend as much time with the baby after she is born so I will suffer through being uncomfortable and distracted (which have already hit at 32 weeks!)

I planned to work up until I went into labor. And I guess I pretty much did! But I have a desk job.
grapefruit / 4278 posts
It really depends on the kind of job you have. I sit at a desk all day, so I worked past my due date. Worked Friday all day and then went into labor on Friday night. I didn't want to waste any of my leave before the baby came. I might not have always been super productive, but I was there working.

I have a long commute (2.5-3 hours a day) so I stopped a month before my due date. Next time, I will work up to my due date from home.
persimmon / 1453 posts
At this point I'm planning to work at both of my jobs until my due date. One is a work from home desk job, so no problems there. The other is very close to home and involves more moving around, which I actually like!
At six months I feel great and have done a good job of managing body changes. I hardly feel slowed down, which bodes well for the end of the pregnancy. If I felt really cumbersome and tired, I could totally see myself stopping early!

My office is closed for Christmas during my 38th week and I'm not going to go back for the 39th. I may work part time from home depending on where my projects are at that point. Time will tell.

Oh, goodness, I hope I can work right up until my due date! I will probably only get 6 or so weeks, so I definitely want every second of that to be post-baby.
pomegranate / 3350 posts
I'm 35 weeks and so far planning to work until the day after my due date just to finish out the week. I want to work as long as possible because I want to take extended maternity leave until after the holidays (about 15-16 weeks). I'm really hoping that I can make it that long!
pomelo / 5331 posts
I've been planning to work up until I pop, but so far talks with my boss about my leave have been very flexible. I asked for 12 weeks and she essentially said, take what you need, we'll talk about if you want to come back part time for a few weeks or just whatever you need. So I'm kinda hoping there is more flexibility at the end, but I'm not planning anything either way. My biggest fear is my water breaking at work so... I'm gonna get really squirrely at the end.
GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts
I plan on stopping working at 39 weeks if I haven't had any complications or gone into labor by then. And then I'm hopefully still taking the 12 weeks off after that...for a total of 13 weeks. My boss is cool with it.

Yup, I worked up to very last Fri, and had LO on Mon! It sucked to be at work when I was so huge and uncomfortably pregnant, but worth it in the end to maximize my time off with LO.

i was going to take 1.5 weeks off before my due date but he came early. it would've been nice to have couples weeks off before he arrived.
pomelo / 5178 posts
With both kids, I planned on working until my due date, and with both kids I went into labor at work! With DD, I left work at about 12:30 for the hospital, and had her at 8:30 that night; with DS, I left work at about 2 for the hospital, and had him at 9 that night.
I had a desk job and a replacement person to train, so the last few weeks of pregnancy weren't too bad for me. Plus, I figured I'd be miserable and uncomfortable at home just like I would be at work, but if I stayed in the office, at least I'd be making some money while miserably pregnant, lol!

I would really like to work up till I deliver, because then I get more time off on the back end after baby comes. But my commute to work is either a 30-minute train ride or an hour-long drive. I'm not entirely sure I want to sit on a train for 30 minutes, especially if I'm one of those women who sort of slowly, constantly "leaks" once her water breaks! So I may end up taking a few days off before my due date, and hoping baby arrives on or close to his/her due date so I"m not eating up too much of my maternity leave!
pomegranate / 3272 posts
My plan right now is to work up until my due date, whether that be from home or actually in the office. I"m actually closer to the hospital and will have easier access to get there from the office so it might make sense to continue to come to the office.

I planned to work up to my due date. and I did just that and kept working 4 days past my due date. I even worked the morning of the day I got induced, although I didnt know I was going to be induced at the time. It was hard towards the end but I'm glad I did it because it kept me active and it meant I could enjoy more time off with my baby afterwards
persimmon / 1329 posts
I worked up until I gave birth def not by choice. I wanted to spend as much time with LO, so I was trying to not go through my vaca unless I had to.
