@jhd: hooray for a great appointment, and getting to see your little guy again soon!!
apricot / 335 posts
Had a "surprise" appointment this morning. Friday I was driving to a Christmas party when my chest got heavy and tight. I was breathing but it felt like I couldn't breathe. I unbuckled my seatbelt and was ready to pull the car over and die in the middle of the road, but it subsided. I then experienced the same thing Sunday. They tend to go away after about 30 seconds, but man is that a helpless feeling in the meantime. My only good thought was that baby was active.
So I asked a nurse this morning, and she said I needed to get in immediately. They did a pulmonary EKG, and blood test (for anemia), all of which checked out. Little man's heart was ticking away, so that was a relief as well. She said she is chalking it up to stress, which I have been under enormous amounts lately, or the baby pressing on that nerve/artery (I don't know what it is called). She said when it happens I am supposed to lie down (or pull over if I am driving) and take deep breaths. If I either break out in a cold sweat, pass out, or it doesn't subside then I need to check myself in to the ER.
And now I have a dentist appointment today. I am so done with doctor appointments. I am hoping for a relaxed and stress free Christmas. Please pray for me

@megz06: sending prayers! I had to have an EKG for fainting earlier this pregnancy, and my cardiologist said the same thing-lay down when I can, and drink lots of Gatorade. I'm glad you could feel baby move, though. These little ones keep us on our toes!
So I had my 25 week appointment today, and things went well. I've been having a lot of pelvic pressure the last few days, and even though I've tried to stay off of my feet, it hasn't gone away. So the doctor checked my cervix today with an exam and a transvaginal u/s, and all looked good. My cervix is long and closed, and there's no bleeding or anything abnormal. I'm feeling very relieved! I don't think I realized how stressed I was about it until I got home, because now I'm exhausted!
I'm also having some issues with my asthma that I need to keep an eye on. I had two small asthma attack-like episodes on Friday, and I've been wheezing all weekend. Hoping that it calms down again soon, because that's no fun.
For the record, I had heard that cervical checks could be painful, but I was skeptical-I figured, how could they be worse than an internal exam. But holy crap-I'm still sore!! Worth it for the peace of mind, but I take it back. I get it!
Next appointment 1/6 for my glucose test. I'm going every two weeks now until the end-craziness!

@megz06 and @lovelyplum: glad everything is turning out ok for you both. hoping you're symptom free for the holidays (and, really, after as well).
@lovelyplum: eep, two week appointments already. My doctor told me at 24 weeks that they'll decide at my 28 week appointment whether I go to every two weeks then or at 32 weeks. The second half of this pregnancy is turning out to be far less eventful than the first, and I'm grateful for that.

Hmm...I forgot about every two week appointments lol. I bet mone start after my next one at 27 weeks. I was just thinking about the weekly appointments starting at 36 lol.

@gilmoregirl: thanks! I'm glad that it's going well for you. No need for extra stress and drama! Mine actually is, too, but you'd never know it from how often I'm there I am starting the every two weeks a little early, but it's kind of nice, because it makes me worry less. I'm grateful for that!
@Dandelion: yep, getting close! And I updated the list
cantaloupe / 6171 posts
@megz06: aww that sounds so rough!! I hope you have a lovely, relaxing holiday to make up for all the appointments, and that your stress starts to lighten up!
@LovelyPlum: glad your appointment went well! and I hope your asthma chills out!

@nana87: thanks! Here's hoping. I'm mostly trying to avoid this head cold turning into bronchitis, because that's a sure trip to the ER waiting to happen. But for now, we breathe, keep the inhaler handy, and try to take advantage of no school for the next six weeks
cantaloupe / 6171 posts
@LovelyPlum: oooh bronchitis would definitely not be good!! I've been fighting a nasty cough/cold for the last week too, no fun at all! on the plus side, a 6 week break sounds amazing!
apricot / 335 posts
@LovelyPlum: Thank you. I can't imagine fainting. I hope it doesn't get that bad. I hope you have a relaxing holiday. Take it easy!
@gilmoregirl: @nana87: Thank you both very much. Hoping for a relaxing holiday as well. You both have a Merry Christmas.

I had another ultrasound today. Baby boy was moving all around. Growth looks great--already 1lb 9oz.
My next OB appt is 1/27 and I have another ultrasound scheduled for 2/10.
I'm not sure if I shared the reason for extra ultrasounds. Seems like baby has a small chin. I think they are being cautious, but it could potentially cause trouble for feeding so apparently it's something that they look at & report to the pediatrician. Trying not to worry and just pray everything is fine.
And I need to get to work on choosing a pediatrician. Anyone started on this yet?
persimmon / 1273 posts
@jhd: If by working on it, you mean 'did I google the list of recommendations given to me by my OB and choose the one whose website I like best?' then, yes, we are working on it.
At this point, I'm just looking for an office that's geographically convenient and in-network. I figure we can always switch if it's not working out?
Glad your ultrasound went well and hope everything works out fine.

Everything was good at my appointment yesterday, but http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/measuring-2-weeks-ahead-at-24-weeks?replies=1#post-1313011 !

@gilmoregirl: haha yes that's all i mean. i sat down with my mom this weekend and we looked at some websites (not super informative mind you) of local pediatrician practices. i think i have chosen one that i will try to check out.
@PEAPIE: yay for a good appointment!

@PEAPIE: glad your appointment went well, and hopefully the growth spurt is just a fluke!
I had my glucose test on Tuesday, and it went better than I thought--from everything I read I thought it'd be really intense, but it was fine! I get the results next week. Otherwise, all looks good with baby girl! I got the results of my MaterniT21 test to rule out down's since her enlarged kidney could be a soft marker, and it was negative, so all good there! They're still going to be monitoring the kidney, but I think that was the most serious thing it could have been, so yay for ruling it out!!

Happy Baby Year!!
I had my 28 week (according to the dr I'm a March mama, but I'm riiiight on the border) appt with an ultrasound today! Baby looks great, measured a week ahead at 2 lbs 14 oz, (so like a 29 week baby instead of a 28 week baby) which is the 71 percentile, but my dr. said it wasnt anything to worry about yet, that babies vary a lot right now and next u/s at 34 or 36 weeks Baby could have plateaued and be back in the 50th. U/s tech said the fluid around baby looked good, kidneys, heart, liver look good. Head is currently down with feet up by my left ribs and hands over toward my right side--which explains this new rib-kicking s/he's into lately.
I think I’m up about 14 lbs at this point, but I could tell Baby had a growth spurt the last week or two. And there was the Holiday eating… oops. Back to salads at lunch. They didn’t mention my weight though, so I’m going on with what I’ve been doing. We got some good pictures. Baby really looks like a baby! Has a cute little face that is totally distinguishable! Yay!
Next one in 3 weeks: Jan 23

@nana87: great news!!
@HazelEyes: yay for a great appointment and good pictures! our baby won't hold still for good pictures at all!

Again with the me being behind...sorry, ladies
@jhd: I'm glad that it went well! I'm hoping they're just being cautious, that everything is just fine.
@jhd: @gilmoregirl: this is all I've done, too. My doctor asked me today, and I didn't have a good answer. The nurse had a recommendation for me, so I have to check them out.
@PEAPIE: are you feeling better about baby's size? These little ones do like to make their mamas worry, don't they?
@nana87: I'm really glad that baby girl looks OK! Did you get your glucose results back?
@HazelEyes: happy baby year!!! And I'm so glad that everything looks great!
I had my 26 week appointment today, and baby looks good. Holiday cookies were not kind to my scale number, but my belly also totally popped this weekend. I'm trying to remember to just make good choices and not freak out, because that doesn't help anyone. I also had my glucose test, which was kind of gross, but all in all not too bad. I'm nervous about the results, though-I have a feeling they're not going to be great. All in the name of a baby, right??
Next appointment: January 20 (in the third tri!)

@LovelyPlum: Glad your appointment went well, and hopefully the numbers come back in your favor! The scale hasn't been so nice to me either because of the holidays. I got some string cheese, cottage cheese, yogurt, yogurt smoothies, and mixed vegetables a few days ago to kick start my healthy eating habits again. Substitute a string cheese for a chocolate
eggplant / 11408 posts
@megz06: thanks We finally threw away the last of the (stale) holiday cookies, so I'm back to healthy snacks! Cheese is high on my list, as are all citrus fruits-I could eat citrus all day long Good call on the stocking your pantry with healthy things. We're going to the store to do that this weekend!

Kind of sad I have no more ultrasounds

We're doing an elective ultrasound Saturday morning and I'm super excited. It's 3D/4D, so I'm really hopeful we'll get a good pic or two
I took my glucose test this morning and it was so totally fine. I think dreading it might have helped because my expectations were so low. Fingers crossed the numbers are good.
Also, 28 weeks for me!! Third tri officially!

I PASSED THE GLUCOSE TEST!!!! Yay!!! I don't know why I was so incredibly worried about it, but man, what a relief
@SupernovaJ: it is weird remembering that belly is there!
@gilmoregirl: congratulations on the third tri! And I hope your results come back with good numbers. Have fun seeing the little one again!

@LovelyPlum: yay for passing the glucose test!!!! I got the call from my dr last night that I passed too--wooohoo, bring on the ice cream though, she also did bloodwork for anemia and I do have a low iron count, so adding another supplement asap!
@gilmoregirl: ooh fun, I hope you get great pics! and hoping your glucose numbers are good!

@LovelyPlum: @nana87: Congrats on passing!! I've been eating a cookie or two a day just in case they turn out to be my last cookies haha (ok ok, that's overly dramatic. But it's crossed my mind).

@gilmoregirl: For fun!!! I considered asking for a 3D for Valentine's Day, lol. After thinking about it I decided to save the money for other things. It's kind of expensive in my area since not many places offer it. Let us know how it was. I hear you can actually see that the baby looks like you or DH. Crazy!
@LovelyPlum: Congrats on passing!!!

Ugh I keep forgetting to update!
Had my glucose test Monday and I passed (even though I totally cheated and had coffee with lots of sugar a few goes before)! Heartbeat sounds good and NP suggested miralax for my constipation. Ladies, seriously nothing else has worked for me! colace, flax seed, tons of water...it still takes 8 or 9 days and i never feel full relief (sorry for the TMI).
Next appointment is 1/31 and ill be 31 weeks!! Whoa!!

Officially passed my glucose test, whew!
Had some protein in my urine, so I'm switched to every two weeks for appointments now. Getting there!

Yay for all the passed glucose tests!!! Mine hasn't been scheduled yet. My doctor said we would schedule it at the next appt which I changed to 1/27.

@nana87: @gilmoregirl: @megz06: thank you!
@luckypenny: congrats!! Sorry about the constipation, though. I had it for the first tri, and it was awful. Now I've got the opposite problem. Pregnancy is glamorous, no?
@gilmoregirl: I'm glad that you passed, but I'm sorry about the protein. I hope you and baby boy are OK!
