mines ramping up I think. I had my first fridge gag when getting my lunch from the fridge this morning.. I really hope it's not as bad as last time.

I got worried yesterday when my fatigue and nausea disappeared. The universal consensus online appears to be that there is zero correlation between loss of symptoms and miscarriage, though, so I try to remember that. And then in the evening both symptoms came back hard, and I was in bed by 9:30.

I am also craving nothing but simple carbs. I'm definitely skeptical of the theory that the reason why nausea is linked with reduced miscarriage has anything to do with the nausea's influence on the mother's diet. How can eating nothing but simple junk carbs be good for the fetus? Anyhow, we've definitely got pasta on the menu this week, if I can ever muster enough energy to cook.

@PawPrints: I've heard that it's because back before refrigerators and such, it helped protect the mother from eating foods that could go bad & be harmful to her & her growing child. Just like outside the wom, as your LO grows inside, he/she becomes more resilient & that's why those cravings begin to wane & you eat more variety. Often times pregnant women also don't like spicy things during the first tri because spice can mask the taste of rancid food. It's for protection.
Don't worry about it ladies. If your doing your best & taking your prenatal, your baby will grow healthy & strong!

@Banana330: I have a banana every morning & I ate it fine but later when I opened the trash I smelled the peel & gagged. It was my first gag this pregnancy too

@PawPrints: The baby takes all the nutrients stored from the mother, and it's so tiny it doesn't need much from you.

    pretty good run down here:

@Mrs. Sunshine: smells do that to you don't they!

    pomegranate / 3658 posts

@Mrs. Sunshine: I think it's a lot more likely a case of correlation and not causation. It seems insulting to pregnant women to imply that those who miscarry are at fault because they ate something they might have avoided if they were puking every day. (Also, we all have refrigerators now, and the correlation still exists). It makes more sense that the nausea is just a sign of good things going on - elevated hormones, etc.

@PawPrints: oh no no no, I didn't mean to imply that at all. That comment was more in regard to your statement about how you didn't see how eating "junk" could be healthy for the fetus. I apologize if anyone read that & were hurt. That is not what I meant at all.

  10. PawPrints

    pomegranate / 3658 posts

@Mrs. Sunshine: Oh yeah no worries, didn't mean to say you were implying that. This is just something I've been doing a lot of thinking about/searching on lately and pondering the different studies I've come across. Just some thoughts I've had.

i've been on the hunt for gummy prenatals and can't find them anywhere! i'm gonna have to buy online... i've been bad with my prenatals the last couple days cuz they make me pukey i'm so worried i'm letting my baby down! but i seriously can't stomach them. anyone know where to find gummies in Canada? I've been told my two pharmacists they don't exist... (i know they do).

also is anyone having massive tummy troubles? i just had lunch and instantly regret it. my stomach is gurgling like crazy and i'm very nervous about making it through the rest of the work day/my two hour commute home.

@loki: i think i've seen them in shoppers before. Are you taking them after dinner before bed? I find that's the time that upsets me the least to take them. My midwife said don't stress over it take them as often as you can but if you can't don't worry. You could also consider taking just a folic acid (i take a b6+b12+folic acid) supplement if you can get them down. I've even read two flintstones chewables can do the trick...

  13. loki

    pear / 1787 posts

@Banana330: i looked at shoppers yesterday and they didn't have them : ( and also told me they don't exist. haha. i just ordered some from amazon. maybe i'll just pick up some folic acid if i can find them in a smaller size. i have been taking them randomly, whenever i feel like i can get them down. sometimes that's after lunch, sometimes not until after dinner so it all depends. but what your midwife said makes me feel better so thank you! i feel like a bad mom already!

  14. HappyBluebird

@loki: We must be symptom twins today because my stomach had been rumbling/gassy all day. And you're not a bad mom, you are doing the best you can!

@HappyBluebird: thank you! sorry you have to be my symptom twin i wouldn't wish these feelings on anyone blahhhh.

just spoke to my dr's office and they got my betas back and said they look "really good" whatever that means. so the levels must've been normal for the time i got the blood work done... which is a bit of a relief and some sort of confirmation for me! now just to wait until 9 weeks. i'll get my req form on sept 8th then i'll have to go to an ultrasound lab to see the heartbeat and make sure everything is on track! counting down the minutes...

    @loki: Yay!

Had another appointment with a heartbeat at 122 (exactly 7 weeks).

As for symptoms yesterday I was so bloated I looked like I did when I was 9 months preggers with my first.

@marionberry: thinking of you and praying for doubling betas!
@Astro Bee: welcome and congrats! I'm in SW Ontario!
@PawPrints: I wore jeans a lot last time. I loved the skinny jeans from H&M. I also wore leggings with tunics a lot too. I was able to wear my regular yoga pants for most of the pregnancy but I did buy some comfy maternity yoga pants for the end which I lived in after baby came.
@loki: with my first pregnancy, I was sick until 16w. I didn't throw up daily but I felt gross every day. I wish I had gone on diclectin and if I feel crAppy this time I won't hesitate to get it prescribed. I did find eating as soon as I woke up helped so I kept crackers in my bedside table. Hope yours doesn't last long! And awesome news about your betas!
@Banana330: I haven't done a digital confirmation. I'm trying to hold out until I know for sure I will see 3+ and I'm only at 4+1 so I have another week or so.
@NeekieRose: @rockies11: this little "two under two" club is freaking me out. What are we going to do? Have you had east first babies? DD has been a dream so I'm worried I'm in for a rude awakening!!

AFM, I have no real symptoms or anything yet. Im hoping to get betas drawn next week. Between being busy packing because we are moving next week and general business with a one year old, sometimes I forget I'm even pregnant. I haven't spotted in 3 days and my wondfo lines are getting darker so I'm optimistic I'll get to stick around!

@Astro Bee: welcome fellow Canadian! Congrats! I wolfed down two baked potatoes the other day. Wtf? I never eat them otherwise.

@marionberry: We get our beta results tomorrow too. I am super stressed about it.

@loki: I am not sure that they sell them here - I had a fruitless search for them as well with LO#1. It's the iron that is probably making you sick - I can't take it either, even when I am not pregnant. The gummies don't have iron in them, so that if a kid gets into them they won't overdose on iron, which is what makes them better to take for pregnant ladies! A regular multi and a folic acid supplement do the same thing. I have gummy adult multi and the 1000 ius of folic. There's also a prescription prenatal that you can get that you take twice a day that people that have prenatal vitamin nausea say helps - I tried it and it didn't work at all, though! It does have iron in it.

I am like crazy exhausted, and already way bloaty/preg looking, at 5w3d. I am not a cute pregnant. Also, I have started dry heaving and hating on chicken. If I have the same pregnancy as last time barfing-wise, this will be a long 35 more weeks!

  19. loki

    pear / 1787 posts

@Rockies11: it's honestly the swallowing that's the worst part! As long as I eat them with food I'm OK (took me a while to figure that out!) but because they're big trying to swallow them makes me want to throw up. I hope this pregnancy is much easier for you... And all of us!

  20. Rockies11

    persimmon / 1363 posts

@loki: oh yeah, I have never seen a small prenatal, hahaha. I think iron doesnt really matter as much until the second tri, and by then you'll be feeling like a million bucks!

@rockies11 @delight @loki @banana330: nice to see so many Canadians on here.

@loki I used to live in NY and would buy Vitafusion women's multis, and then prenatals, from CVS - their equivalent of Shoppers. I checked both Shoppers and Sobeys last night because I couldn't believe they wouldn't carry gummi vitamins. Turns out they do - for kids! Anyway, it's not that gummi vitamins don't exist in Canada (no matter what the pharmacist says), it's just they choose not to stock them. Not sure what kind you ordered, but Vitafusion were mixed berry flavour and were quite good. One word of advice, don't stick your nose over the opening of the bottle. Even not pregnant, the smell was strong. Individually, however, they were okay.

@Rockies11: @Astro Bee: I haven't had one yet, but I was wicked craving a baked potato the other night.

@Mrs. Sunshine: @delight: easy first babies must explain why we are all knocked up so soon. People are constantly surprised by how good she is. Of course they always follow that up with "you know that means your next will be horrible"....um, thanks.

Ugh. So nauseous this morning. And I am simultaneously super excited and super nervous for our ultrasound this afternoon. 4pm cannot come soon enough!

@marionberry: @Rockies11: hope you both get great news today! I'll be waiting!

Anyone else have diarrhea? I had it with my last pregnancy too. It's a good thing LO thinks that bathroom is the most fun room in the house!
Also, cereal. Is anyone else as obsessed with cereal as I am? I eat at least 2 or 3 bowls a day all of a sudden.

@NeekieRose @Rockies11 Last night's craving was for plain fettuccini aldredo. We were our car shopping, so I made my husband take us to East Side Mario's. Pasta in our house is the easy, no thought meal, and I never crave it, so he thought it was funny that I HAD to have it last night.

Does anyone currently have an SUV, or is looking for one? I've gone for a few test drives, but they are all very similar, just different standard/upgraded features.

  33. Astro Bee

@Loki I hope you enjoy your new vitamins, and that they get there soon.

I just bought some new ones myself, that are a double vitamin, with the second pill being a soft gel DHA for better mental health development. My doc never mentioned this kind before, and I don't see him until the 17th. Mainly he was just happy that I had been taking a prenatal with the folic acid since he knew we were open to conceiving soon (NTNP).

@Astro Bee: After our first we looked at SUV's and station wagons because we had a kid and two dogs (one big dog). We picked the Mazda 5. It is about the size of an SUV but has the sliding doors of a van which is sooooooo helpful when putting the kid in and out of the car.

I'm copying this from my other thread. My doctor called this morning with my results...

So here's the latest update: beta numbers went from 37,591 to 50,117. It's not a doubling, but my OB said because it's so high she thinks that's a good sign. She also tested my progesterone and it's 24.3, which she said is high and also a good sign. I asked if she thought it could be a blighted ovum since the numbers didn't double and she said that there's a chance, but she also saw two sacks, so it could also be that I have twins and it was just too early. So I guess it's at least semi-positive news and now I just wait until September 2nd for the ultrasound to know for sure.

  36. NeekieRose

    persimmon / 1386 posts

@marionberry: Yah for at least somewhat positive news. OMG, what if it is twins?! I would be very excited for you!

  37. loki

    pear / 1787 posts

@marionberry: omggggg twins! imagine! great to hear you got some good news!!! september 2nd will be here before you know it, i can't wait to hear if it's two LOs!

@Astro Bee: i've seen those too and wondered what the benefit was and why dr's don't mention them. if you get any info, fill us in! also east sides... YUUUUUUUUUM! i had it on the weekend. cheese cappelletti

we have a nissan rogue and i love it. we used to always have small cars so it was an easy transition because it isn't massive... it just feels so safe and i really like it. we got it when my aunt passed away so we didn't have anything to compare it to but we like it. we also don't have any kids currently so not sure how functional it'll be once we do, but we figure we'll make it work.

  38. NeekieRose

    persimmon / 1386 posts

@Astro Bee: three years ago we bought the new Ford Escape for me. I love having an SUV, but it is definitely on the smaller side of SUV. We test drove a number of SUVs, and they were all pretty similar, but we went with the Escape because it was brand new and we were able to splurge for all the options. It really depends on your budget. The CRV would have been perfectly sufficient but there wasn't anything that jumped out and wowed me about it.

  39. NeekieRose

    persimmon / 1386 posts

@loki: @Astro Bee: DHA is supposed to help babies brain development and vision. Last time (a whole 15 months ago), the midwives didn't ask if my prenatal had it (it didn't). This time, at the first appointment she asked me if I was taking a prenatal and if it has DHA (this time it does!). So I think it's something that is somewhat new which is why your doctor may not have said anything.

@NeekieRose: just looked it up and the new prenatals i ordered has it! so that's good. thanks for the info : )
