@Portboston: I'm assuming/hoping your silence must mean things are moving along! Thinking of you mama!!!

@Mrs. Microscope: I had to stop wearing my wedding ring this week, because of my fingers swelling, and the only shoes I can wear are my flip flops or one pair of sneakers. I don't feel very cute right now, although everyone tells me I look good for being so far along. I'm ready to have my non-pregnant body back!
@getjazzy: I get mad at my DH for not doing more as well! Like this morning I got up with our son at 7am, got him dressed, made him breakfast and got myself ready for the day all in one hour while my husband just laid in bed playing on his phone. I was getting ready to leave to take my son to the park, so I asked DH if he had seen my sneakers upstairs. He yelled to me that he didn't have time to look, because he had to go to work. Um, what? You've been laying in bed for the last hour, and now suddenly you're in too big of a hurry to help your 37 week pregnant wife find her shoes. He seriously doesn't do anything to help me! If I just ask him to put some lotion on my legs, because I can barely reach them, he gets mad and says he thinks lotion is gross. Who cares? Just help your wife!

@kayakgirl73: Sorry to hear about your foot. Hope baby stays in a good position for you.
@lil owl: Hope everything is okay with you and baby!

@lil owl: So sorry you're going through this! Hope baby stays in as long as possible and keeps growing!
@aprild: Normally my DH is super helpful and loving, thankfully. But man, I think they believe being pregnant isn't a big deal. It's hard work!!

@Mrs. Microscope: I hope your chiropractic visit helps! What a weird pain to suddenly have. You must be right about the baby dropping much lower down in the pelvis. Feel better!

How long is everyone's husbands staying home after the baby is born? Do they get paternity leave, or are they using vacation days?
DH has a somewhat flexible job where he can work from home if he needs to or work some half days. I know he doesn't want to be away from the office too long, so we're going to play it by ear. If I end up with another c-section, I'll probably need him longer than I would if I get my VBAC

@aprild: DH works mostly from home as a journalist. But he is planning on taking 2 weeks totally off when she gets here.

Dh and I went and had breakfast this morning. Then he dropped me off for a pedicure while he grocery shopped. Then I got a nice nap in so far so good. Contractions are getting a bit more intense and often but totally manageable. We're going to head to the hospital around 6pm to do a NST and make sure all is ok. If it is they'll send us home (as long as I'm not in active labor yet!)

@lil owl: Oh no, hope she's able to stay in longer. Thinking of you
@Portboston: Eeeek!!!
@aprild: DH is a teacher, so he'll have 2 weeks off before he has to go back for workdays. Same with my sister (and her school is 5 mins from our house, so if I need her, she'll be RIGHT there). I'm sooo excited about that because he only took a few days off with our first and with having a RCS and a toddler, I'm sure I'll need the extra help.

@aprild: DH will take about a week of vacation. His last company have him paternity leave of a week, but this one doesn't.
@Portboston: so glad to hear you're doing well! Stay strong!
@lil owl: so sorry to hear! I hope baby keeps growing!!!!

@aprild: I've been struggling to keep up with my toddler at the moment! I feel bad because she has to amuse herself a lot. She's going back to kindy today after having 2 weeks off for holidays (she goes 3 days a week for 3 hours each) so I'm glad she'll get some quality play time in and get to play with other kids instead of being stuck with her boring mama! Only thing is we only have one car so I have to walk her there (the usual 10 minute walk takes me at least 40 minutes these days) and I am SO exhausted and sore after we get home.

@getjazzy: I've had moments like that with my hubby too! He can see me clearly struggling but seems to just tune me out! I had to ask him to give dd a bath the other day and wash her hair (since it's impossible for me to lean over the bath at the moment) and he got annoyed. He's also being annoyed on occasion that I ask him to help put dd's shoes on grrr

@Portboston: Exciting! About time we had some action for our birth month!
Sorry about the seperate posts, my computer won't let me do several posts at once for some reason!

@aprild: Dh will be taking at least a week - hoping for 2. He took 3 days unpaid last time for my induction since he had only just started at his job but this time he has annual leave and I'll need help with dd.

@Portboston: so far so good it sounds like!!
@aprild: DH will probably take a week off. With DD he got 3 weeks paternity leave but he's with a different company now and has to use vacation. I thought he'd be working at home some after that too but sounds like a new project he's on might not allow for that. So we will see!

@Portboston: hopefully baby passes the nst!
I got some relief from the chiropractor but still in pain. she said baby dropped and is pushing on my bone for sure... And to ice the bottom of the front of my public bone to reduce inflammation but not cause baby to flip breech. No more deep squatting or lunging during yoga, save that for labor! Otherwise just hang on for the next 1-4 weeks until she arrives!
So excited for these babies to start arriving!

SO ready to be done being pregnant, but I'm not due until August 14th. I'm getting sick of these constant contractions. Anyone have any tips for dealing with them?
pear / 1809 posts
@Portboston: Thanks for the update! I'm glad everything is going well so far!
@lilteacherbee: That's great that you'll have both of them to help you! I know c-sections can be tough to recover from, so the more help, the better.
@MrsStar: Walking is getting harder for me too. I used to walk over to Target and the grocery store pretty frequently with DS, but now I prefer to drive everywhere. I think the heat makes it worse.
@Mrs. Microscope: Glad you got some relief! Hopefully, the baby will come soon, and you won't have to deal with the pain much longer.
@MrsBananaGrabber: I've been having a lot of Braxton Hicks too. If they bother me, I try to either change positions or drink some water. I heard that can help make them stop, and it usually works for me.

@aprild: OH was supposed to have his contract end with his current employer on July 31, they asked to extend him to August 31 and he said he'd work until when I went into labor or my due date (whichever came first). He's going to wait until September to pick up a new contract... soo... three weeks minimum? We really lucked out with the timing.

@aprild: DH will be taking 2 weeks of vacation time. We will both need it! They've been working him hard lately and it will be nice to let him focus 100% on family.
kiwi / 696 posts
@aprild: I'm not sure! My husband sort of sets his own schedule and leads a team of 2 others, and one of them always has to be in the office. I told him I wanted him to take a week off and he didn't really understand why. I think he has TOTALLY forgotten what having a newborn is like and how demanding they are. My mom will be here, hopefully for the delivery. So I don't need him to stay home forever, but I told him a few days will be nice while I adjust to having a newborn again.
August is his busiest month at work, so that doesn't really help matters.

@Ms. RV: 3 weeks sounds amazing!
@kjpugs: 2 weeks seems like a good amount. I'm glad he'll be home to focus on you and the baby.
@OhCaptain: My husband sounds like yours. He also has a lot going on at work, so he doesn't want to be home too long. I think he has forgotten how hard newborns can be, because he keeps saying stuff like "Maybe he'll sleep all the time and be an easy baby." Yeah, maybe. Or maybe not. Either way, I want help!
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@aprild: It's exciting to see him excited about it too. It really is hard for anyone to balance a demanding job and family!

@aprild: I am sooo so fortunate this time, DH will be home with me for a month of parental leave paid at 100%. We found out after our first that he was eligible for it through work, and I'm glad we can take advantage this time. His boss isn't so thrilled but he's an ass who only cares about himself. He actually said to DH "well that's going to make it difficult to schedule summer vacation" ummmmm... Not only is it a benefit provided by the employer, legally he could take several months of my maternity leave and have full job protection upon his return so.. What?! Allow me to just ask my wife to move her due date to a more convenient time for you then.
This is the same guy who, when he heard one of his employees was rushed to surgery after having her lung collapse at work said "well that's really going to mess up the schedule next week"?!? I'm not shocked with his blatantly idiotic point of view.

@Portboston: Any updates?
@getjazzy: That boss sounds like a real jerk! I'm glad you're DH is getting a month and isn't afraid to take it.

The high today is 98, but it's supposed to feel like 103. I think I'll be staying indoors all day. This heat is awful.
kiwi / 696 posts
@aprild: only 90 here today. We have low relative humidity though, so it's not quite as bad as other places!
cantaloupe / 6791 posts
@aprild: 97 here. We're going to the pool, but we'll be back before 12 because I'd rather not melt today!
grapefruit / 4862 posts
I feel like it's been 90+ daily for months now. Central FL - aka the swamps - is just a miserable pit of humid despair in the summer. Which is basically May-Sept and sometimes creeps in April and Oct.
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@Portboston: ok so this is probably a silly question but I thought if your water broke you had to have the baby within 24 hours??? (NOT meant to be snarky at all and I can't figure out how to make it not sound that way! I was just under that impression!) So now I am wondering if that is even true? OR if you have your baby!?!?! SQUEEEEEE!
kiwi / 696 posts
@kjpugs: I think that rule is a hospital rule? But I know most providers don't want you walking around for too long becasue of the risk for infection. At least that's what I've always read/been told/heard.
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@OhCaptain: I wonder if it differs between a leak and full on rupture? I know when they broke my water at the hospital I wouldn't have been able to go about my day, haha. I would so much as shiver and gallons would fly out. I'm totally asking my OB about this on Friday!
nectarine / 2262 posts
@KJPugs totally feel your pain on the weather - I am in south Florida. It is definitely hotter in central FL where you live since we are closer to the ocean but the humidity here is just unbelievably oppressive!
35 weeks exactly today. Went to the OB and had my GBS swab and she offered to check my cervix. Not dilated at all yet but she said she thinks I am almost completely effaced!
kiwi / 696 posts
@kjpugs: that's what I'm thinking. Can't you leak fluid for a while? I never leaked at all and then when they broke my water at the hospital is was like, Niagara Falls. And then I was on the "clock" so to speak.
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@MrsADS: woof, I am curious how babies born in our climate compare up north. If I hadn't had issues conceiving with LO1 we probably would have waited another month or so to try to avoid being super pregnant in the summer! How perfect does a FL March or April baby sound? LOL!
watermelon / 14467 posts
@kjpugs: Outing myself as a lurker, but I think it depends on the practice. My practice allows you to labor at home for 24 hours with broken water. Then you have to come in and they give you antibiotics if you need them, but not if you don't.
Back to lurking. Congrats mamas!
