@kjpugs: that's what I always thought too but I just asked my midwife today bc I am GBS positive and nervous about it. She said they definitely don't follow such a harsh guideline and that they would let me labor for 48-72 hours after it breaking.
Baby is still doing great - midwife felt around and estimated the baby to be about 7 pounds now. I'm 37 Wks today and she should gain about another pound depending on when I deliver. Sounds good to me!

@KJPugs I totally agree! We also had a lot of trouble getting pregnant (this pregnancy is result of an IUI) so I didn't really have the choice of picking when I wanted to be due!
But, I think the upside to having August babies is that by November/December, when the babies are a little older and we're wanting to go out and about, it will be nice beautiful weather for us, and people up north are going to be stuck inside for 6 months!
And as much as it sucks being pregnant when it's 5,000 degrees outside, I am happy to be able to wear flip flops, shorts, dresses, etc. I can't imagine being super pregnant in the winter somewhere cold and having to stuff myself into long pants, sweaters, boots, etc. Ugh!

@MrsADS: oh my gosh, that is SO true. I mean, I would love OUR winters pregnant (comfy flats, leggings, sweatshirts!) but I can't imagine being 9 months pregnant and dealing with snow and ice and boots!

I had my weekly appointment today, and BP was a little high so they sent me to the hospital for a non-stress test and ultrasound. Everything looked okay while I was there, but the doc said my blood tests + blood pressure look like I'm on the path to pre-eclampsia, so I'm on modified bed rest now. My platelets are also low, so I have to go to the hematologist tomorrow, then back to the OB on Thursday for monitoring. If my BP stays elevated, they may induce this week!

@kjpugs: so I live in northern montana. August is definitely summer. September? It could be hot or snowing. I've had the hardest time buying clothes for this baby because (aside from the usual how big will they be and how fast will they grow conundrum) I really have no idea when "winter" will start!

@raspberries: eek! Keep us posted!
Pain is better today, so I'm going to work this afternoon, and making peanut butter cookies right now. I may even make sandwich cookies with them, using nutella and homemade marshmallow fluff, if I decide to be a little crazy!

@kjpugs: @MrsADS: I was just thinking about this today. It's sooo hot here (coast of NC), but when baby will be big enough to go out and about more often, it will be nice weather! I hope. Last winter, it snowed twice and it NEVER snows here. Hahaha but I guess twice is better than every single week like some places get. I try to remember these things when I'm dragging the toddler to the car and heaving him over my huge bump when it's 100 degrees.
@raspberries: Oh no! Glad you're getting the extra monitoring! How do you feel about baby coming a bit early?!

I had my 37 week appointment today. Nothing exciting and pretty boring, which is good I guess. Baby will be here 2 weeks from today! DH and I are crazy and decided to paint our entire house this week, so there's that. Getting the last few baby related things we need and washing baby clothes! I still can't really believe I'm about to be a mom of TWO

@lilteacherbee: Thank you! I'm okay with him coming a little bit early (I'm 37w2d) - according to the ultrasound they did today, he looks to be about 6.5lbs and is doing practice breathing in utero, so those are good signs. Still, I'd be good if he could wait just a litttttle bit longer.

Updates!...still in labor. Haha. My contractions picked up around 1pm yesterday and by the time we headed to the hospital at 6pm I was struggling enough to be admitted. Thins progressed nicely. We used the tub, the shower, walked, danced...pretty much everything. I was starting to feel like I couldn't go on much longer around maybe midnight I think. I asked for a cervical check and I was 6/7. So I thought ok I can do this. A few hours later my contractions started to wain and space out a bit. I was getting pretty tired and actually falling asleep sitting up. Dh tried nipple stimulation to get things moving and it did help a bit. I got checked again when things started to become too much. I was at a 9 but the baby is slightly posterior and not budging so one side of my cervix was swollen. Since the contractions started to die down again, the midwife recommended a small amount of pitocin to get them moving and hopefully get baby to turn. I decided along with that I was getting an epidural. I knew I couldn't last any longer especially with pitocin. Actually I was begging for a c section at that point! So I went 26 hour naturally and now we're just waiting for my contractions to be close enough and to feel some pressure to start pushing. He should be born today!
@kjpugs: in most places they want baby to be born within 24 hours. My hospital is a bit more evidence based and it's a university hospital so they are very well versed in all the newest research. They are ok with it being broken for longer if baby is ok and there are no signs of infection. Basically I'm on the regular monitoring now instead of intermittent and they take my temp every few hours!
@raspberries: good luck with everything!!!

@Portboston: that's awesome! I'm so glad you inspired me to ask (I was trying to remember where I heard that, and I think just from my SIL and her labor experience.) FX he arrives very soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@raspberries: Good luck with everything! Keep us updated
@Mrs. Microscope: That sounds delicious! I'm craving a frozen lemonade right now, but I don't want to leave the house to actually get one.
@lilteacherbee: How exciting! Just two more weeks and you get to meet your new baby!
@Portboston: Your labor sounds just like my labor with my first. I started off with my water breaking, had no problems dilating, but then I also had the cervix swelling and a posterior baby, so my contractions slowed way down. They put me on pitocin, I got the epidural, and then ended up with a c-section in the end. I hope your baby comes quickly and you can avoid a c-section! Keep us updated!

@kjpugs: I think a lot of hospitals are changing their policy on that rule. No need to induce if everything is going well!
@aprild: oh man...I'll be pissed if I end up with a c section. Only cause I was begging for one at 5am this morning lol

@raspberries: I hope your BP levels out! Kind of exciting though that you might meet baby soon!!
@MrsADS: @kjpugs: @OhCaptain: @lilteacherbee: You guys are depressing me! I live in Canada and will be burried in snow come winter lol. My favorite season is fall (here) with the crips and refreshing air but NO snow, which sounds exactly like your winter! I need to move.
@Portboston: Baby is going to be here so soon!!! Exciting times! I hope this last phase is an easy one. Can't wait to hear all about him!

My toddler has been spiking fevers on and off since last night.. I hope he (aka we) aren't coming down with something!
I'm also a scatter brain. Arranged for my dad to babysit and went all the way to my OB for my 38 week check up today only to realize.. It's on Thursday lol.

I have been having so much belly tightening lately, which my midwife confirmed is BH's. I wasn't sure bc it never hurts! But today I've had a lot and it's weird - my belly almost feels numb when it happens. Anyone else have that sensation?
pear / 1788 posts
@buttermilk: my bh contractions have been picking up a lot, and some hurt! I had them every 7 minutes last night, but they only lasted about 15 seconds each, and stopped at about 45 min. No numbness though!
Has anyone looked at whentoexpect.com? don't know how accurate, but it's fun!
pear / 1809 posts
@buttermilk: I don't feel numb during my contractions, but I definitely feel the tightening! It is actually a little painful sometimes.
@Mrs. Microscope: Just looked at that site. I have no idea how they come up with their numbers, so I doubt there is any accuracy to it, but it's fun anyway!

@Mrs. Microscope: My most likely day came up as July 27th which is my MIL's bday and the one day I DO NOT want baby to show up lol. Go figure. Although it also said she'd be 7lbs7oz which would be fine by me!

@raspberries: sorry about the blood pressure and labs. Everything will work out, though. My son ended up being born at 37w2days due to high bp (even though labs were clear) and he was a 7lb 4oz healthy baby boy. Good luck and keep us posted!
@Portboston: thanks for the update! I'm glad all is going well and I hope perhaps you've met baby by now.

I am in misery right now. I woke up about two hours ago (2am) with the worst heartburn and reflux I've ever had. I took a Zantac but it doesn't seem to be doing a dang thing. Sitting upright on the couch right now catching up on HB and trying not to throw up its so bad!
On another note, I had my 38 week appointment today. I had a stressful day, plus I was so, so anxious going in that my BP was going to be high (since I ended up being induced for this reason with DS), that I must've psyched myself out and given myself high BP. My first reading was through the roof and the second two they took were also very high. No protein in my urine but the bp alone was high enough that they sent me to the evaluation unit for labs, an NST and more bp monitoring, with the stipulation that even if labs were normal, if the bp remained elevated they would deliver baby. Thankfully once I got down there I had composed myself and my bp came way, way down and my labs all came back normal so they let me go home. Close call but looks like baby gets to cook a little longer! I know she would've been just fine had she been delivered today since I'm 38 weeks (DS was born at 37) but I really, really want to allow her to come on her own time this pregnancy, if possible!

I'm a little confused by this website, but I think it's predicting about a week early on 8/5 ish. Fine by me!

38 week appointment today. I find I'm more nervous at these final appointments than at the start. Will there be progress? Will my BP be ok? Will my urine check out?!?
@portboston: hope all is well!

I think my BIL is sending out wedding invitations soon to his wedding in September, but I'm not sure how to RSVP. I wrote a post about it a while back, but I left it at I would see how I felt when the time comes. The wedding will be about 3 hours away by car, so we'll have to drive over and stay the night in a hotel with my 2 year old and a one month old baby. My husband is a groomsman, so I won't have any help during the ceremony/reception. The ceremony is an hour long Catholic mass and the reception doesn't start until 7pm, which is usually when I start getting my son ready for bed. I'm not sure how I'm going to handle two kids on my own in that type of environment, plus I might still be recovering myself. What would you do?
