@Torchwood: I would imagine she was getting from both! There's no way your breast wasn't outputting with the stimulation there. But U.S., hard to know.

@lilteacherbee: Oh my!! That is awful timing. Can stress/anxiety bring that on? Poor guy!

Today, we had DH's family over for a little bit and everyone was talking about when they think I'll go into labor. Everyone except for DH thinks it will be after my due date, which is a little depressing for me to hear. At this point, I'm ready for the baby to come, plus I feel pressure for him to not be late since I'm trying for a VBAC. When DH said he thinks I'll go Thursday, everyone looked at him like that was crazy talk. 3 days early isn't unreasonable, right? Ugh, I really don't want to go past my due date.

@lilteacherbee: My cousin's husband had to have his appendix removed while she was still in the hospital recovering from her c-section. It sucked. Sorry it happened to you!

Thanks guys. I told him that he didn't need to be so jealous of me being incapacitated haha. They gave him some meds and he's going home for the night. The nurses here are awesome, so I'm not too worried about being alone. It was just a whole logistical mess because he wanted his mom with him (totally a mama's boy, even now lol), but she was at home with our toddler. Thankfully, my sister was nearby at the right time and she's at our house with LO1.

And I'm still exhausted and loopy on my pain meds. It's an interesting time around here

@lilteacherbee: omg, your poor dh! I hope the meds help.

My bro texted me and my dad was hospitalized this afternoon for kidney issues and potassium levels.

@autumnlove: Hope everything is ok with your dad! My dad was in the hospital when my son was born. I know it's a hard. You want to be there, but you can't.

@lilteacherbee: @autumnlove: so sorry to hear you are having to deal with family medical issues while you are trying to recover. Thinking of you both!

I have to whine a little y'all. I slept like crap last night thanks to my own insomnia issues and to DD who decided to get up at 5 am and sit in the hallway outside her room until I agreed to lay down with her for a bit. Also, my throat hurts - I can't believe I might be coming down with a cold @39 weeks. I'm so over being pregnant but now I'm worried about being sick during labor or giving germs to a newborn. Anyone have any remedies for warding off a cold to share?? Sigh- wah wah wah.

@abmamma: I usually overdose on vitamins and sleep as much as possible. I also like to do hydrogen peroxide in my ears if it feels sinus related at all. So sorry! hope it doesn't last long.

@abmamma: I think I've caught DS' cold, which will suck in labor!

Due date day here! Definitely lost more/all of my mucus plug through all these contractions.

@autumnlove: Sorry to hear about your dad. I hope he recovers quickly!

@abmamma: I hope you don't get sick! Getting rest and eating fruit usually helps me.

@Mrs. J: Happy due date day! I hope your baby comes soon!

I woke up this morning feeling nauseous, and I actually went to the bathroom and threw up! I haven't done that since I had morning sickness. Has this happened to anyone else? I have no idea why I would feel so nauseous right now.

@Mrs. J: did you have prodromal labor with your first?

  15. buttermilk

    nectarine / 2086 posts

@aprild: I've had way more nausea in the third trimester than I ever did in the first. But never threw up. Sometimes I think mine is heat related? And just general no-space-left-ness.

    pomelo / 5132 posts

@buttermilk: I had weaker contractions 7-8 min apart a week before I actually went into labor. My actual labor was so abnormal! I've definitely progressed to the more painful contractions faster this time.

@aprild: on Sunday night I was dry heaving for awhile! I felt so sick.

@aprild: Going 3 days early definitely isn't outside the realm of a realistic possibility!

@autumnlove: I hope everything is ok!

@abmamma: Ugh!! Being sick while pregnant is the WORST, but being sick while giving birth and caring for a newborn seems like a whole new level of no fun. I hope you can clear it before baby comes!

@Mrs. J: That's great news!! Am I remembering wrong or your first was posterior? Sounds like you're settling in to a "normal" labour pattern, which with an OP baby I'm sure you (like me) did not have. My labour with DS was a disaster all over the place. Happy due date!!! I feel like baby is coming today or early tomorrow!

I've been googling prodromal labor and it seems it often happens when baby is malpositioned and your body is trying to turn the baby before actual labor starts. Interesting!

@aprild ugh that sucks so much. I have definitely had spells of nausea in the 3rd tri, although not nearly as much as the 1st tri. I have been on Diclegis (vitamin b6/unisom) this WHOLE pregnancy - like, even now I am still taking it. I forgot it a week or two ago and I was so, so sick the whole day.

@buttermilk @mrs. j that's so interesting about the prodromal labor. I know this baby is posterior (sunny side up), and I wonder if that explains all the prodromal labor I have been having. I was up again last night for a couple hours of painful contractions. Nothing going on now, though.

So, here's a dumb question for all of you... if you have started to dilate, it's still okay to go swimming, right? (Like in a swimming pool) I wouldn't have thought twice about it but I mentioned to my mom I thought I was going to go to the pool and she was freaked out it might be an infection risk and she thought you weren't supposed to (???). I would think unless your water has broken it's probably fine, but now I am overthinking! I am only 1 cm dilated.

  21. OhCaptain

@MrsADS: I think it's fine as long as your water isn't broken.

Another appointment today! Ive had contractions here and there. But not too many episodes of timeable contractions. We will see what happens. My midwife told me that if the baby's head was engaged she would insert a foley catheter, to help me dilate with the hopes that the pressure of the baby's head would keep the momentum going.
Maybe I'll have something interesting to report after. I will say I'm gettinn tired of constantly feeling like I have to poop! I don't, but I keep running to the bathroom.

@buttermilk: @MrsADS: I 100% believe this. I had prodromal labour with my posterior boy before finally having the longest active labour on earth, but it was very stop start where it would go from an intolerable intensity, and then quiet back down to painful but manageable. I had one instance of a massive contraction that didn't let up for 20 minutes. My DH was SHITTING his pants because he said I was acting like I was in transition. He was on the phone with my SIL (she's a nurse and has 2 kids herself) and she was like get her in the car now, and he was like I can't, she won't move. She's refusing to get in the car and she was like.. OMG YOU NEED TO GET HER IN THE CAR lol. But ya, was nowhere near fully dilated and that's just a product of my body trying to move the baby. I was trying to labour on my hands and knees or leaning over the back of a chair.. kid was just stuckkkkkkk from early on. Thankfully, this baby is still moving and flip flopping a ton which DS didn't do so I have good reason to believe she isn't stuck.

All that to say, I wholeheartedly believe that malposition can make for some wicked prodromal labour, and a very roller coaster active labour if your body is having trouble moving baby. Not to scare anyone though, I totally survived and would go through the same exact labour if I had to again. Plus, you're not automatically doomed if baby is posterior, the majority of OP babies do turn on their own in labour.

@MrsADS: Totally fine to swim until water breaks.

@OhCaptain: Good luck today! Excited to hear about your appointment.

@Getjazzy OMG!!! That is crazy. That sounds so similar to what has happened to me. For WEEKS I have had spells (like multiple hours) of intense, painful contractions and then they just go away. And it really sounds like it might be because he is posterior. Ugh, that makes me worried!! Did you have to have a c-section with your posterior baby or were you able to have a vaginal delivery? I mentioned it to my OB yesterday and she basically said he could still turn, but even if he doesn't you can probably still have a vaginal delivery, it just tends to be longer/more difficult, especially pushing. She said don't worry about it but I am! Ugh!

@getjazzy: lol what a story! Hope you get luckier this time around!!

@MrsADS: have you checked out spinning babies for exercises to turn baby? There are lots of YouTube videos too.

@buttermilk I just went to Youtube and there are a ton. Guess I know what I will be doing this afternoon! I was thinking maybe I would go to the pool and do somersaults in the water or something. LOL.

@buttermilk: That could be. This is the only day I've felt nauseous though, so I'm wondering if it's a sign labor is near for me.

@MrsADS: I think swimming is fine as long as your water has not broken.

@OhCaptain: Keep us updated! Sounds like you might be close.

@MrsADS: I ended up with a c-section BUT, I think the nurses also didn't do much to help me. I caved and got an epidural after 37 hours in labour and they never checked his position or managed me at all, which didn't help. A midwife would know how to manage you to encourage the baby to turn, like flipping you back and fourth in bed, or having you lay on your left side etc... no one said anything to me until I had been just lounging in bed on pitocin for several hours. I did dilate to a 10 and push for an hour but then there was signs of meconium and based on the fact that my labour began over 50 hours before, they finally pulled the plug. With proper management though, and a midwife who knew what they were doing (OBs and nurses aren't really trained in positioning all that much) they may have been able to change the outcome. They can also try an external version... like I said though, all that would come in to play if baby didn't flip on his or her own, which is the most likely scenario.

I have been doing forward leaning inversions and belly sifting for several weeks now and for me, both of those have worked to flip baby from being on my right to being on my left. Spinning babies is a great resource. There's also good tips on how to "rest smart" aka, the best ways to sit and lay to promote good positioning.. cause let's face it, we have to rest sometimes too!

I'm sure you will be fine, I don't think a truly STUCK posterior baby happens all that frequently. Just try and stay active when you do go in to active labour. Change positions often, walk, sway, lean over furniture, squat.. whatever.. just move around every few minutes.

My nausea feeling has lasted all morning, and I've also been extra gassy and had some diarrhea (sorry, TMI). I haven't experienced any nausea since my second trimester, so I think this could be a sign that labor is near for me. My stomach has felt crampy too. I'm really hoping this baby comes soon!

@buttermilk: @Mrs. J: @aprild: @getjazzy: thanks for the support/ideas! Normally I would be downing airborne but it says not to take while preggo. So I've had a lot of OJ and a fruit cup when I got to work. I think it's partly because I've gotten rundown because my sleep has been pretty bad the last week. Hoping I can get some rest but who knows! May ask the OB for ideas at my appointment tomorrow.

Today my during my cervical check my midwife said "hooray!" I was almost worried she was going to tell me I was at a 4 and I was staying to have a baby. Haha. But, I'm still at a one, BUT Im effacing a bunch. She didn't give me a percentage she just said their was a big change from monday and that I was very thin. Also, that baby's head is engaged and doesn't bounce back up when she does her exam.
She gave me two more doses of cytotec (to take at home) go Friday and Monday. She told me to come back Monday at 8am, if I hadn't gone into labor before then!
