@Torchwood: @kjpugs: I used the k'tan at first and an ergo. I eventually bought a woven wrap that I love. I used my SIL's moby a few times, but because I was already adept at the woven wrap, I didn't really like it very much.

@buttermilk: I think you're fine, unless your doc is concerned about your weight. Your body will do what it needs to do. Keep eating when you're hungry, eat a few snacks.
persimmon / 1179 posts
@buttermilk: I wouldn't try to gain any unless your doctor expresses concern. She is right, you might gain it later or you might not but as long as you're eating a balanced diet and none of your tests come back abnormal, you are doing fine. Does your doctor test your urine? Mine recently flagged me for spilling protein and having elevated ketones so she said I needed to eat more often since my body was showing signs of under nourishment but if your doctor isn't concerned then there is no reason to push yourself to gain. Are you under weight right now?
nectarine / 2086 posts
@getjazzy: yes they always test my urine but I haven't gotten any calls about abnormalities. Okay I will just keep eating like usual. I'm not underweight, healthy BMI. And I'll ask my midwife and my next checkup in 2 Wks. Thanks ladies

@buttermilk: I think that's a good plan, I'm sure everything is great. You might be lucky and only gain baby + amniotic fluid weight. Your body will definitely give off signs if you need more calories and it won't be in the form of harm to the baby, they get first dibs on all your nutrients!

@getjazzy: good to know! Thanks
I am going to keep track of what I eat to make sure I'm getting enough of the right foods. I had WAAAAAY too many carbs yesterday. Whoops!!

Let's talk names! Do you have any in mind yet?
Girl: Madeleine, Charlotte
Boy: Logan, Dean
We might go in with all 4 and then choose!
pomelo / 5607 posts
@Mrs. J: Ours is already chosen, but we don't tell beforehand. We prefer to be free to change our minds, and to avoid opinions from snotty relatives. We call her Daisy for now, so that we have something to call her. It seems to keep family from getting mad that we won't tell.

@Mrs. J: we have 2 names for a girl! We aren't sharing with friends before, but the family knows our choices and loves them, so that's good. Exciting that we will know in just a few weeks! If its a girl, Veronica or Penelope. Boy, Tristan. Need another boy choice still!
pomegranate / 3533 posts
We're also keeping them to ourselves for now. Everyone wants to make suggestions!
pomelo / 5132 posts
@Torchwood: We're not finding out the sex, so we really don't care with them knowing names. Granted, our choices aren't too out there (our son's name is pretty traditional). I like the faux name! We call him/her Goober
pear / 1955 posts
@Mrs. J: @Torchwood: Haha, ours is Peanut!
And oh man, I'm having the hardest time with boys names! We've had our girl name picked out forever, but not so much with the boys (which is, of course, what we're having.) I'm thinking maybe Finley (I like the name Finn, but DH doesn't think it goes well with our last name) or maybe Connor? We have a super common last name, so wanted something a little less common, but can't find anything we like.
cantaloupe / 6791 posts
@Mrs. J: Obviously, I love Dean! I like it for a first name, but you know our last name (not as clash-y as Brock, but still...lol)
This baby will be Carter Michael Big bro is Nathan Dean.

@raspberries: We have the hardest time with boy names! For LO, we only had one. Our last name is long and Frenchy, so we have a hard time getting something that sounds good. @lilteacherbee: hehehe I still think Brock would have been great

We had our NT scan today, and the doctor said everything is measuring great. We are at 12 weeks, 6 days which keeps our due date on track. According to the scan, everything is normal but we'll know more next week. We got over 40 minutes of ultrasound time cause the baby wouldn't show the back of its neck so that was awesome, just getting to watch him wiggle around.
And the doctor even gave us a guess at the gender! He is 80% sure it is a boy!! I have a midwife, but we were referred to a specialist OB for the NT scan... have y'all had any doctors give educated guesses this early on?

@Mrs. J: I really like the name Benjamin for a boy, but DH googled it with our last name and said a porn star came up. It ruined it for us

For those of you who remember my bachelor party post, DH talked to his brother about having it before the baby is born. He agreed to do it the weekend of July 11th. That would make me 36 weeks. I told DH that date is okay, but I have a friend who recently had her baby at 36 weeks, so I'm a little worried about the possibility of going early. He'll be all the way in Vegas, so it's not like he can come home easily. Do you think that date is too close to the due date?
pomelo / 5132 posts
@aprild: I think you'll probably be fine. Granted, my son was born ten days late, and I was born 6.5 weeks early, so you never know.
pear / 1955 posts
@aprild: When did your first LO come? Any complications? I think I'd feel much better about DH going at 36 weeks than shortly after the birth!
kiwi / 696 posts
@aprild: my husband went to a bachelor party when I was 36 weeks with my first, I was nervous about it, so my mom came to visit just in case.
This is your second right? When did you go into labor with your first?
kiwi / 696 posts
@Mrs. J: names are hard for us, especially boy names!
Our girl names are:
Tess or Eleanor
Boys: I like Harrison, smith or Davis. (Our sons name is Anderson, so I like the surname as a first name theme)
My husband likes William, Matthew and Tiberius
pear / 1809 posts
@raspberries: @OhCaptain: My first came right at 40 weeks, so I don't expect to go early. I did have a hard labor and ended up with a C-section with him, but he was full-term and a big boy! I'm sure it will be fine for my husband to go at 36 weeks. I just get a little nervous when I hear about other people laboring early.
nectarine / 2086 posts
@aprild: I think you'll be okay too, chances of you going into labor while he is away are slim, but of course you'll naturally be nervous about it
@LauraBear: cute baby! How exciting!! Although the 80% thing would probably drive me crazy lol.
@Mrs. J: my top name for baby girl is Ramona. And we also love Vivian and June. For a baby boy my top pick is Conrad. And I also love Smith, tho I don't think DH does as much. I just can't help walking around thinking about lil baby Ramona or Conrad though!
And we don't have a nickname for it, we just call it "the baby"

@raspberries: My husband likes the name Finley for a boy a lot, but unfortunately it's trending as a girls name and DH doesn't like names that could go either way.
cherry / 215 posts
@buttermilk thanks! Yea, as it's my first I'm happy with whichever so that makes it easier to be laidback. If this was our second, I would have told the doctor not to dare guess as it would drive me crazy! Also, love the name June.
@mrs. J: We love Cormac and Raymond for a boy. Our girl picks are harder - I want to do family names but I just don't like any of them. Agnes, Marie, Gladyne, and Hilda are our grandmothers...
@aprild I would say no, but I am not that nice! Haha. I had to give up a trip to China this summer because of the pregnancy so I would likely end up resenting him for being free to do fun travel.

@LauraBear: that makes sense
So excited y'all! We just registered for our Hypnobabies Childbirth classes starting May 31! Starting to feel more real
pomelo / 5607 posts
@buttermilk: Yay! I really want to go ahead and register for the class I want, but DH is working SO many hours (18 yesterday, and he's already been there 15 today and isn't home) that he'll never agree to anything just because he's feeling overwhelmed. Once things settle down (hopefully VERY soon) he'll be more open to things. The class shouldn't fill up, but I still just want to get it booked!
nectarine / 2086 posts
@Torchwood: yeah totally understand wanting to get it booked now, but I'm sure you'll make it! hopefully he has some downtime this wknd so you can run it by him

Ummmmm just kidding guys, looks like I've gained like 5 pounds in the past week

@aprild: I think you're probably ok for him to go at 36 weeks. Are you having a repeat C or trying for vbac?
I feel the same as your husband for the boy/girl names. Cameron was one of our top choices for boys names last pregnancy but then it quickly flipped to being more commonly a girls name (at least in our area) and I really didn't want LO to be one of 4 Cameron's in his class but the only boy?
@LauraBear: Congrats on the good NT scan!
@raspberries: We have the same top 2 girls names from last time at the moment which are Lydia and Sophie but then there's a few more still on the list... Arya, Maya and Mila. For boys... oh man where do I start. We suck, royally. When I was pregnant with DS (we were team green) we had such a hard time coming up with a short list but eventually we did and then he was born and we decided we didn't like any of our names anymore. Literally were googling baby names a day and a half after he was born because we had to fill out our discharge papers. We thankfully came up with a name we love which happened to be on our long list once upon a time and ended up cut for reasons neither of us can remember. It suits DS perfectly but it was a fight to the end to find it. Anyway, our boy names include Cameron, Wesley, Ryan and I love Liam but DH wasn't on board first pregnancy so I'm not sure about this time, we haven't talked names much lately.
pear / 1809 posts
@getjazzy: I'm trying for a Vbac if everything in my pregnancy continues to go smoothly. I'm nervous about going through labor again, since last time was so rough, but I would really like to avoid another C-section if I can.
pear / 1955 posts
@aprild: Dang it, is Finley really trending as a girl name? I double-checked against top 100 name lists, but since I didn't see it there, I thought we'd be safe. (We don't know any Finleys - boy or girl - in person, which is one of the reasons we like it.) It's still one of our top contenders, but that's not really saying much since we're not in love with any of them.
@getjazzy: Hahaha, that's crazy! I feel like that'll be us, frantically trying to find a name at the hospital. It just seems like we're so indifferent to all of them - but maybe a name doesn't have to be perfect, because it'll grow to represent the little boy who has it? Who we'll clearly love with whatever name? Just trying to convince myself a little bit, haha. Oh, and I LOVE Liam too, but my SIL, who's due in March, has already nabbed it for LO.
@buttermilk: @Torchwood: What classes are guys registering for? (And everyone else!) I want to take the infant CPR class, breastfeeding, infant care, and a childbirth class. My doctor recommended the natural childbirth class even if I'm planning for an epidural, because she feels like women are better prepared for the early part of labor that way - but I think it'll come down to whatever fits into our schedule the best.

@Mrs. J: We already found out that it's a girl, and we're 90-95% set on Emily as the first name. I keep throwing out other options to make sure, but nothing else is sticking.
We're still debating the middle name. Elaine as a middle name is a family tradition on my side, but I'm not crazy about it paired with Emily. I do like the sentiment behind the name though, and I'm kind of attached to it because it's also my middle name. Our other contender for middle name at the moment is Paige. This one isn't a family name, just a name we liked. We considered it for a first name but didn't like it as much as Emily.

@raspberries: According to Nameberry: This was a 100 percent male name until celebs Jason Sehorn and Angie Harmon bestowed it on their daughter, recently followed by Lisa Marie Presley, who used it for one of her (female) twins. Now there are two girls named Finley for every boy.
DH and I were really bummed when we read that, because it's such a cute name for a boy. It's not a very popular name yet, but I think it will gain popularity as more celebs start to use it.
pear / 1809 posts
@raspberries: In the USA, Finley ranks #290 as a girl's name and #483 as a boy's name.
pear / 1955 posts
@aprild: Boooooo. I'm still not completely turned off of it, since we'd probably be calling him Finn anyway, but it still sucks. I feel like I'll be starting one of those "Somebody please help me find a name!" threads in another few months when things start to get really desperate!
persimmon / 1179 posts
@aprild: I'm in the exact same boat. My first was over 50 hours of labour and a section after an hour of pushing. I want to avoid another c-section just for ease of healing but I'm so afraid to go through that whole ordeal again just to end up in surgery anyway.
The darn celebs keep turning girls names in to boys. Recent ones I can think of are Wyatt (Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis), Lincoln (Kristen Bell & Dax Shepherd) and Finley. Charlie is cute for a girl I agree, but definitely has swung over to the girl side in recent years.
cantaloupe / 6791 posts
@raspberries: Last time, I did a childbirth class called "prepared childbirth" that basically went over all types of birth (I knew I'd likely have a c-section). It also went over the basics of breastfeeding. We took an infant care class because DH really wanted too. He'd never been around little babies at all. I'm infant/child CPR certified because of my job, so I have to take those every couple of years anyway. I liked taking the classes because it helped me feel like I was "doing" something. We won't take anything this time because there will only be 20.5 months in between the births, so it feels like we *just* did this
cantaloupe / 6791 posts
@raspberries: Also, we had such a hard time choosing a name this time! Boys names are sooo hard!! When we finally found one we both agreed on, we stuck with it, so Carter he is!
