@OhCaptain: I just finished 45 minutes playing on my Wii fit. I do a lot of fast walking at work, so the Wii is just more for sustained exercise and yoga. I can't wait until it gets warmer and I can do laps around my plan. I may also get on the stationery bike before then. At least I can read while doing that.

@OhCaptain: Exercise at this point consists of walking with my BFF (who is about 8 weeks pregnant) and chasing my toddler. When not pregnant, I go to the gym and run 2-3 times a week, but my motivation and energy levels are totally lacking these days.

My BIL is getting married toward the end of Sept (I'm due Aug 9th). My husband is going to be a groomsman, so they are already talking about the bachelor party. BIL wants to go to Vegas for a long weekend, probably over Labor Day. I know my husband wants to go, but I'm feeling really unsure about giving him the green light. I'm not sure if the baby will be early or late, but even if it's right on time, the baby will be less than a month old.

I don't know if I'll be ready to be home alone for a long weekend with a newborn and a toddler. Unfortunately, I don't have family on my side that can help out, and my husband's family are typically not helpful. I told my husband he shouldn't agree to go yet, but he shouldn't say it's a definite no either. We'll see what happens closer to the date. What do you guys think?

@OhCaptain: I'm not an exerciser normally, but I want to at least walk more while pregnant. Unfortunately I don't have the car most days to go to the gym, and it's too cold to walk outside. Hopefully we'll get a second car soon. Though I'm not sure what I'll be able to do then. I can't get a straight answer from anyone on working out if I'm having my usual tons of BH's. Walking makes them worse, and everyone I've talked to (midwives, nurses, MFM OB) says to get off my feet if they get frequent, but none of them will actually agree that I can't work out if that's the case. I'm assuming at this point that medical people just don't like telling you to not exercise.

@aprild: I would say no way myself, but I'm terrified of the thought of a newborn and a toddler. You've done the newborn thing before, so you're probably a better judge.

@aprild: tough one! I'll be in the same boat, my husband has an annual audit trip (he's on the audit team) for the end if the fiscal year at work. I'm due august first and the trip is always over Labor Day.

@aprild: i think if he's at all helpful with the baby he will be too tired to enjoy it! I would say he shouldn't go. No one wants to be the mean person but I'm honestly surprised after having one child he would want to go! Maybe try to go over your plan for the weekend (who will help u etc) with him, so he can see how hard it would be?

I am trying to get a little exercise now that the m/s is getting better but I'm not doing great. It's warm here so I don't have an excuse

I do ok on the weekends. We usually walk 3-5 miles over the course of the weekend. Not strenuous exercise but it's better than nothing. During the week it's hard. I usually don't get home till 6pm from work and I am so exhausted it's hard to walk. I try to walk the loop of my neighborhood which is about 1.5 miles 2-3x a week. So, I guess it's better than nothing.

I am starting to have a tiny bump, although I think it's still 80% bloat/poop/gas (lol) and 20% baby.

    I just created a nursery thread: http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/august-2015-mamas-nurseries

We spent this last weekend painting the baby's room (very romantic Valentine's Day at Home Depot picking out paint), and I just found out my dad bought the crib we registered for and is having it shipped to us. I'm so excited!

@kjpugs: Big congrats on being "out"! Such a nice feeling.

@OhCaptain: My exercise is non existent which is awful. Planning on starting prenatal yoga when the next session starts, I was avidly doing yoga until a few months pre-pregnancy when I got super busy. Besides that, I'm hoping to walk way more once it's not minus a billion degrees outside.

@aprild: I would be inclined to ask him to skip it too.. That would be pretty difficult for a whole weekend with no help and only 1 month pp. Especially since he won't be nearby incase you need to call him home.

@OhCaptain: I have a pregnancy DVD but I never end up doing it more than 3x per week. But I also bike to and from work each day, and am on my feet the entire day since I work in a kitchen.

@aprild: I'm not sure what I would do. I would probably give DH the green light, but this is also my first baby and I'm pretty sure I have no idea what I'm in for!

I got a couple of packets of coupons and things from what I think was Buy Buy Baby. There are some gift cards for sites that sell slings and nursing pillows and things, and it looks like I can get a $40 sling for around $18 including shipping. It looks like they can afford to send these about because they have a lot of add-ons, but I don't care about embroidery and things. I don't know really about quality, but I figure for that price I'll just risk it! Anyone know anything about these sites? https://www.sevenslings.com/ http://www.nursingpillow.com/ http://www.uddercovers.com/ They're clearly all part of the same parent company. There are some other good things in the packet too, and I'm liking getting discounts/free stuff!

Also, if it turns out this is legit/decent quality, there are two for carseat covers (http://www.carseatcanopy.com/), which we won't need. We're skipping the infant carrier seat. So if two of ya'll are interested, I can send you the gift card code from it. It's $50. But I'm going to investigate a little more so we'll see if it's worth doing any of them.

@Torchwood: Those "whole caboodle" car seat covers scare me. Car seats are tested for flammability. I don't see anything on the website about flammability and something that is going to be on the seat should really be tested (I think).

  13. Torchwood

    pomelo / 5607 posts

@Ms. RV: They definitely don't seem like the highest quality, so I'm inclined to agree.

  14. OhCaptain

    kiwi / 696 posts

@Torchwood: I got one if those seven slings with my first (but three year ago it was only $13). I never could make it work. Maybe I needed a bigger size, or it just didn't work with my anatomy (large, H cup breasts, and a short torso).
I have a hand-me-down uddercover, and it's great. I only used it until my son was 4 months, then he started flinging it off, but I really liked it when I was first getting the hang of nursing.

  15. kjpugs

    grapefruit / 4862 posts

Yeah, I'm kind of a car seat safety freak and any items that didn't come with the car seat cannot come between the child and the seat. It goes against the manufacturers use of the car seat and hasn't been tested that way.

@Torchwood: I'm curious- why no infant seat?? I never really carried mine but it was nice not to wake her up or be stuck in the car when she fell asleep during those early months (6 for us) of no real nap schedule. Just plopped it in the stroller and went on with my errands!

  16. Torchwood

    pomelo / 5607 posts

@kjpugs: When I nannied for babies I always hated them. I'm just not strong enough to handle them well. And my general parenting philosophy is to emphasize holding her myself, not putting her in something apart from me. I also won't leave the house much (just not one to go out), so if I have to sit in car with her once in a while when she falls asleep I don't mind. And it's cheaper to not have to buy it!

Also, the "whole caboodle" thing was what I meant about getting you with addons. The gift card would only be enough for a cover.

  17. kjpugs

    grapefruit / 4862 posts

@Torchwood: That makes sense! I am hoping to baby wear more with #2. I was always a little nervous about it and didn't get the hand of it til LO was bigger and then had issues bc of my back problems. I want to do that a lot more with #2. I grocery shopped wearing LO for a Little while and it was so enjoyable.

  18. OhCaptain

    kiwi / 696 posts

@Torchwood: infant seats are so freaking heavy! My son HATED his. I wore him everywhere until he was able to sit up in the grocery cart and in restaurant high chairs.

  19. Torchwood

    pomelo / 5607 posts

@kjpugs: I'm really hoping babywearing goes well, because I'm really looking forward to it! I know I'm going to waste a ton of money on different carriers.

Speaking of grocery shopping while wearing, the other day DH and I were at BRU and saw a shopping cart seat cover. I explained what it was to him, but said we probably wouldn't need one for a while. His response was, "yeah, because we'll be wearing her." Apparently my excitement is rubbing off on him, because most people he knows don't babywear! Though thankfully the few that do are people he respects, so no negative associations for him. Also, how cute is he going to be wearing his itty baby (he's a pretty big guy)!

  20. Torchwood

    pomelo / 5607 posts

@OhCaptain: They are! If we got one I'd probably only ever get it out when DH could carry it. Otherwise I'd just take her out of it anyway.

  21. Torchwood

    pomelo / 5607 posts

@OhCaptain: Thank you for the input! I think I'll try them out. Worst case we haven't wasted much and I can probably pass them on to someone who can use them if I can't.

@Torchwood: Register for a bunch of carriers!! I loved my mei tai (Mai tei?) the most. Used a boba wrap at first (should have practiced more - really only used it for walking the dogs) and it was best for newborns and little (<3 months) and I also have an ergo but havent been able to ever really get it to fit comfortably on my very curvy hourglass body. Just doesn't hit me right. I returned the k'tan because I seemed to be between sizes.

  23. Torchwood

    pomelo / 5607 posts

@kjpugs: I registered for several different ones, but last time we only got one. I forget what it was, but I think it was the k'tan? I don't know how much people will do off our registries this time, but they're still active. Worst case I'll use some of the registry completion coupons on them. That's another reason I'm glad DH is on board actually. If we wind up buying them ourselves he won't complain too much.

  24. OhCaptain

    kiwi / 696 posts

@Torchwood: I had a moby, an ergo, and a ring sling. I couldn't ever get the moby right, but I know some people love them. I LOVE my ring sling for easy ups, and they are great while you have a little squish. I also love my ergo, and will be using it again, although sometimes I think about selling it for a Tula.

Has anyone else not gained any weight yet? Is this something I should be actively trying to do? I just assumed I would eat when hungry like usual and so far i haven't felt any hungrier than normal so I haven't really gained anything. But should I be trying to? I figured it would all come later.

@buttermilk: According to my appointment this
morning, I'm up about 6 lbs, which I'm okay with. I started 10 lbs lighter than last time and I had gained 24 lbs by the end.

  27. raspberries

    pear / 1955 posts

@buttermilk: I'm 15w3d, and I'm up about 10lbs (I'd argue a good chunk of that is because we stayed with family for a week and a half during the holidays though, and they are NOT healthy eaters.)

I asked my doc about it and she said weight fluctuates wildly in the first tri - some people put on weight, some lose weight, some stay the same. She said starting at 14 weeks (for someone with a normal BMI, like me), I should start putting on about 1lb per week, and she'd let me know if I was lagging/gaining too quickly. She also said I should be eating an extra 350 calories every day in the second tri, and an extra 500 in the third. So long story short, check with your doctor and see what they recommend? I wouldn't worry too much at this point, but based on what my doctor said, I'd think you should maybe be starting to eat a little extra now (as long as your morning sickness is gone!)

@Torchwood: My DH wore our LO as often as he could. It was adorable!! We even bought a 2nd tula because hes so much taller than me and needed tp drastically change the strap settings every time. We don't know any other babywearing daddies (and not many mommies) so I was glad he took to it!

@Torchwood: @OhCaptain: @kjpugs: @getjazzy: @buttermilk: Thanks for your responses! I talked it over with DH, and at this time he's not agreeing to go. He told his brother he'll play it by ear based on how I'm doing at the time.

@buttermilk: I only gained 20lbs total with my first and was never flagged for being on the low end. I'm sure your doctor will tell you if there are any concerns.

    pear / 1809 posts

@buttermilk: I'm down about 7 pounds, since I found out I was pregnant. My morning sickness has kept me from gaining anything, and has made me lose weight. My midwife isn't concerned though and says I'll start gaining soon.

  32. OhCaptain

    kiwi / 696 posts

@buttermilk: it's so different for everyone! My first pregnancy I gained 5lbs my first tri, this time I lost 12! But since my appetite returned the pounds have been returning as well.
I know people who gain nothing until about 20 weeks and then gain 1-1.5 pounds each week until delivery, and others who gain steadily the whole time.

I think I'll start trying to gain like 0.5-1 lb per week now and see how I feel. Eeeek! I've never said those words before in my life lol! I just setup myfitnesspal app again so I can keep track of my calories!

Where do you buy nicer maternity clothes? I don't mean for work, but stuff to wear on dates or when going to events like parties and weddings. I have a lot of clothes from Old Navy, Destination Maternity, and some from Gap, but I have a couple vacations planned and nice events to go to, so I want some dresses and cute outfits that look higher quality and more stylish.

@Torchwood: is there a baby wearing class you could go to nearby? There are a few by me, and they offer an instructor and several types of baby wearing devices on hand so you can figure out what you like and how to properly use them. The cost of the classes usually is applied to your purchase of your favorite carrier. Look into it, it sounds like something like that might be a good fit!

@buttermilk: I would listen to your doctor about the weight gain. And I think watching your calories is a good idea. I know that some days I ont feel hungry and then I notice after dinner I have only had about 800 calories all day, and I know I need to grab a snack or something for baby! But the number one thing is keeping your doctor happy!
