Had my first ultrasound today. Everything is good & baby is measuring 10+5 with heart rate in 150s. I feel like I can breathe a bit easier. I go back Feb 15.

@MommySLP: Glad you had a good appointment! You are so patient to be able to wait until 10 weeks!
apricot / 431 posts
@peachykeen: it was hard! My OB doesn't do ultrasounds until 10 weeks if you're low risk & no prior problems. I was used to it from my first 2. The cool thing about waiting this long was being able to see the toes, fingers, etc. it really looked like a baby!

Had a date night last night and we discussed names at dinner. We still have no clue on boy names. We've never had one we liked, so I'm really hoping we keep having girls so we don't have to worry about it! Found a girl name I love, but DH just "doesn't hate it" which isn't a resounding endorsement. But he said he'd keep it in mind because he didn't love DD's name when I first suggested it either. So fingers crossed!

@mommySLP: that's great! I can't wait until my next appointment.
I'm 12 weeks tomorrow - crazy! I've suddenly become more nauseous and have more frequent headaches. I'd started to feel better around week 9 and thought all the terrible symptoms were winding down, but I guess I was wrong.
Has anyone else had headaches develop around this point? It seems late for things to be getting worse
pear / 1563 posts
@Mrs. Blush: with my first, my migraines kicked in and I had a bunch around 12 to 14 weeks, then none after. Not sure if you're headaches are related to hormones, but my migraines definitely are. Hope you feel better. Tylenol and caffeine are my main go tos to help during pregnancy.

How's everyone doing?
I'm finally getting some sleep with unisom + pregnancy pillow, so that's something to celebrate! At 11.5 weeks I'm not feeling sick as often (and it's much milder when I do) but my food aversions have come back in full force. I had one week where I was able to eat a few more balanced meals and now I can basically only handle bagels, cereal, mac & cheese, pizza, and ice cream again.
One more week until I get my NIPT results. I'm still working on convincing myself it's a boy so I'm not disappointed.

@peachykeen: I was 12 weeks yesterday, and feeling the same. I'm less nauseous, overall ... but the food aversions are still high, and my gag reflex is at an all time high.
We have our first midwife appointment tomorrow. I'm anxious to hear the heartbeat. Otherwise, I am happy that my symptoms are getting a bit easier to deal with. I'm really, really hoping everything just keeps getting better. I would like to stop gagging every 15 minutes.

@peachykeen: Pretty good over here! 10 weeks today, so I'm officially past the scary(for me) 9th week. I gave in and bought a new bra today too. I went with a nursing bra from motherhood maternity, but I was spectacularly unimpressed with the service and the quality of the bra, so I'll be going somewhere else next time. Right now I'm just looking forward to my appointments next week and hearing the heartbeat!

I'm ok. I'm 9 weeks now. I still feel sick about half the time and am really exhausted! I have my second OB appointment on Friday and if it goes well I think I'll finally feel like this is happening. I'm counting down the days!

@Torchwood: I hate bra shopping! I went through so many different kinds & sizes last time that I eventually gave up and wore a shapeless Bravado one the rest of the time
I've been lucky not to need a new size yet (chest didn't shrink much after pregnancy/nursing so hopefully this is it) but I did give in and order some under-belly underwear today. I was able to just wear my normal underwear lower last time, but the kind I wear now has elastic in the worst place. I'm definitely changing shape but I'm ready for the firm belly part of pregnancy, ha.

@littlejoy: Good luck at your appointment tomorrow!
The nice thing is that (some) food smells are starting to bother me less and I think smelling people's lunches at work might be helping my appetite a little. I've decided I'll try to make fajitas tonight, ha - we'll see how I feel about that in 5-6 hours...

@peachykeen: After reading your previous post, I had to go to Whole Foods to buy bagels (because, reasons ...)
@Torchwood: Yay for bras and milestones. Good call on buying a nursing bra. I haven't been to MM, so thanks for the rec about considering other places first.

I'm 11.5 weeks and still struggling with morning sickness, I think my body is getting used to the diclegis and it's just not helping as much at this point. We should have our nipt results back sometime late this week so I'm looking forward to that but I'm really anxious about it. I'm afraid there will be an issue (no actual risk factors though, just anxious) and honestly, I'm still worried about gender disappointment even though I feel like a terrible person for having a preference in the first place.
My bra situation is a bit sad at this point but I'm just going to roll with it for now. Nordstrom is a great option though, especially if you're tricky to fit. They will also convert regular bras to nursing bras for you for about $10 so that's a good option if the nursing options aren't working for you.
pomelo / 5607 posts
@Cole: Oh, that's great to know! I've been really happy with my soma bras and would rather get more of those, just bigger, but nursing bras seemed more practical.

I'm 10+5 today and feeling much better. I'm throwing up every 2-3 days but have been able to control it the rest which is so much better than it was.

@littlejoy: Hope your appointment goes great!!
I'm 9 weeks tomorrow and thanking my lucky stars that I haven't thrown up yet. I never did with my first either. I'm just hungry, burpy, exhausted and tired of waking up to pee in the middle of the night.
We're not doing any extra testing but pretty jealous of those getting to find out the sex so soon!
pomegranate / 3375 posts
@sojellybean: I know we are all different, but my need to pee in the middle of the night started to go away around 10 weeks (coming back at about 17 weeks last time). Maybe you'll get a little relief.
pomelo / 5607 posts
@sojellybean: The peeing is already driving me nuts. I have a tiny bladder anyway, so pregnancy is exhausting. But @littlejoy: is right, we should hopefully get a break once our uteruses (uteri?) are higher up!
LO's big sister book got her today! She won't understand it at all, but I think we might use a picture of her with it to announce when we're ready.
pomelo / 5607 posts
Omg I'm so tired of crying at everything!! It was never this bad with previous pregnancies!
pomegranate / 3375 posts
@Torchwood: I was just getting on here to talk about crying today.
I am so overwhelmed with the lack of intersectional humanism/feminism and so many people bashing the Women's March (which was so beautiful) ... I think I need a FB timeout, because I've been so ragey.
AND, we're having our 1st midwife appointment tomorrow and our 1st trimester screening on Wednesday. I just found out the screening is $850, and my horrible insurance (that is actually $$$ each month) doesn't cover u/s. So now I'm torn about the screening ... we have money in savings, but I feel bad about making this a priority, even though it IS important to us.
IT'S THE HORMONES!!!
pomelo / 5607 posts
@littlejoy: I got back on FB today after staying mostly off the last few days, and I totally regret it. It just tanked my mood. Everything is just too discouraging right now. It doesn't help the crying that I've been binge watching Bones. A show about murders isn't the most cheerful. But I just feel so drained right now. Between hormones and politics and DH being super stressed at work, I'm just out of emotional energy.
pear / 1788 posts
I'm also super emotional! 10 weeks tomorrow, and morning sickness is better in the morning, but I still feel crappy at night. Only a couple more weeks of this left hopefully!
I have 3 more weeks until all my testing, then another for the results. So anxious!
I'm solo parenting this week because DH has a work trip. And DD has a cold. Hope I don't get it, but I'm not optimistic. Taking lots of vitamin C!
grapefruit / 4649 posts
@littlejoy: chat with your doctor or do some googling and call the company that runs the test. We are using verifi by progenity and my insurance doesn't cover it but they cap out of pocket costs around $200. It isn't cheap but it's more manageable than $850. Also, ask about ultrasounds. The home birth midwives here send people to a place that's under $100 for a full ultrasound and I'd imagine that by mapping a few calls you could figure something out. I'm shocked they wouldn't at least cover the anatomy scan though, I thought that was part of preventative care.
pomegranate / 3375 posts
@Cole: Thanks for the tips ... I'll look into this today/tomorrow. I do think I have to visit maternal/fetal medicine for the 1st tri u/s, since it's specialized, but I'll double check!!
And yeah, the u/s thing is absolutely insane to me. They said I have to meet my deductible before they'll cover anything.
grapefruit / 4649 posts
@littlejoy: ugh, good luck! I really need to call insurance with a few questions and I'm dreading it.
pomegranate / 3375 posts
@Cole: I usually just send passive aggressive emails. There was an episode of "Speechless" we just watched where the mom befriends one of the insurance employees, so she can get better coverage for her kids. That sounds boring, but it was pretty damn funny.

A little over 10 weeks here. My first appointment and ultrasound are FINALLY coming up; it has been so hard waiting. Tomorrow afternoon will hopefully go smoothly, and I'm hoping that they'll schedule my early testing quickly. We still haven't really told anyone other than two friends. We were going to wait until after the ultrasound, but now we're thinking we might as well just wait until we find out gender if it's only going to be a couple more weeks anyway.
I had been feeling pretty good nausea-wise for a couple weeks (still queasy here and there but not throwing up). I was a bit worried since my MS has never gone away anywhere close to that early. And . . . then I've thrown up every day for the last 4 days. I should have appreciated it while I had a break. C'mon, second tri!
Last but not least (and possibly grossest), the bloating and gas this time has been out of control. There are nights I literally look like I did at 4 or 5 months pregnant with the twins. SO much air in my belly. I'm wearing lot of layers and bulky sweaters to hide my air baby.

One week from today is our appointment! I'm so excited! DS will be coming with us, so I'm assuming we'll be announcing that evening!
pomegranate / 3375 posts
@Mrs. Blue: "air baby" over here too!! I REALLY need to stop eating gluten for a few weeks (my body is usually pretty tolerant, but it's been so bad).
pomegranate / 3375 posts
For those of you who have had the 1st trimester screening (ultrasound), did you ask the tech to guess on the sex of the baby? I was thinking I'd ask for the view where the nub could be seen from the side (just for fun). From a really cool blog I saw, the genitalia at 12 weeks looks nearly identical, so it's definitely not a sure thing. We had the BEST tech for our screening last time (and the worst tech for our anatomy scan) ... crossing my fingers we get someone fun tomorrow!
pear / 1788 posts
@Mrs. Blue: I'm also so gassy each evening, and my pants are tight by bedtime!
@littlejoy: nub theory can be fun, but don't hold too much stock in it! Hope you get a skilled and friendly tech tomorrow and baby looks healthy with a strong heartbeat!
pomegranate / 3375 posts
@Mrs. Microscope: We were team green last time, so we're having fun with finding out this time. I absolutely won't put any stock in it ... I was shocked when I saw the illustrations of how similar genitalia looks until about 14-16 weeks. I think it'll be fun to share here to see what you all think!! (DH might totally say no to this whole idea ... he might want to wait until 20 weeks to peek)
grapefruit / 4649 posts
@littlejoy: I asked my ultrasound tech and she wasn't having it! She insisted that they are all old wives tales and said we'd just have to wait for the blood test or anatomy scan. Ramzi is the other one of you want to look it up before your scan.
pear / 1788 posts
@littlejoy: if you are in it to have fun, you should do the full list of old wives tales! Pee on the baking soda, spoon swing, cravings, everything! Then put together all the predictions and then your anatomy scan results and see how they compare. I've seen people do that for gender announcements and it's cute!
pomegranate / 3375 posts
@Mrs. Microscope: That's so fun!! We might be *the worst* and not tell anyone. We really want to find out for logistics reasons (sorting through clothing and prepping for a move that is likely right around the time of the birth) ... we'll probably tell our friends, but not our parents (they won't even know we found out), because as soon as they know the sex of the baby, it will start raining gender specific clothing.
cherry / 107 posts
when do pregnant people usually tell others? at the end of the first trimester? I have no real craving desire but have almost slipped a few times. I don't know why I feel so much less desire to share with people this time.
heart rate was good for the babe today.(165) He/She is waving hi!

Ok, I am 13 weeks tomorrow and I SWEAR a few times today I have felt something that I think could be movement. Last time I didn't feel anything until later as I had an anterior placenta but I feel like this is really early to be feeling anything. Has anyone else felt anything yet?
pomelo / 5607 posts
@sunset840: I think end of first tri is common. I'm with you though. No huge urge to tell, but I will eventually so I don't slip!
95% sure I'm feeling a few Braxton hicks already. They started at 10 weeks last time. But I was really hoping since we went longer between pregnancies this time it would be later. Hopefully the progesterone shots will help. I'll be starting that soon.
