Calling all August 2014 Mummas!

I haven't felt any hiccups yet that I know of. I did find out at my appt on friday that I have an anterior placenta. My Dr mentioned they noted it from the ultrasound and that I probably feel more movement at the sides and bottom rather then the center. Which is true but I didn't really realize thats what was happening, I just assumed the front felt more muted instead of like a direct hit/kick like everywhere else.

I haven't felt any hiccups yet either but the baby's kicks are getting harder and harder and i swear he will jump out of my stomach one day. other than that, my 24 week checkup was uneventful - i am also still having to go for cervical length checkups every 4 weeks at the perinatalogist's because of my LEEP in May 2013, although the length has been normal from the beginning i guess they are trying to be extra cautious? I have to go back one more time at 28 weeks and hopefully that's the end of double dr's monthly appointments!

My next appt is 5/30, which is 28 weeks and i will be having the glucose test. I'm a little nervous because i really have been overdoing it with the sweets since i've gotten pregnant.

Hope everyone is doing great on this Monday morning!

@mrskc: i think i felt hiccups, but its usually when i'm half asleep so i'm not sure. baby seems to be having parties when i'm sleeping!

@chibee: last month was rough, i had to go get cervical checks weekly and had to pay $4 parking every single time! who charges for parking at a hospital?? bleh. this month should be better, i don't have to go weekly anymore. and also, i'm pretty sure i eat way more sugar than you (i'm so bad :-/) and i passed my test! so i hope you do too!

anyone have any fun mothers day plans for themselves? i'm thinking maybe getting my nails done, or massage. definitely eating some good food. haha thats all i think about these days. dh isn't good at planning these things so i always just tell him what i want

@chibee: My OB starts the every other week appointments at 28 weeks! So you still will probably have 2 appointments a month!

@T.H.O.U.: @chibee: heh, i was actually going to say the same thing! my bi monthly appts start at 28 wks! but i thought maybe you were talking about going to two diff offices. i don't mind going to my ob as much cause its on the way to work, but the hospital is out of the way so it was kind of a pain.

@T.H.O.U.: @kodybear: How can we be at the point where we start appointments every 2 weeks? Where did the past 24+ weeks go?

@kodybear: Every hospital around here charges for parking! I think its awful, since most of the time people are there under stress. But they are all in high-traffic areas so people would abuse it if it were free They should validate for patients and guests though!

No hiccups here, though I'm not sure I would know since I haven't felt it before! Baby is moving a lot though I have my 25 week appt tomorrow (1 week off schedule).

@Mrs.Someone: Our hospital charges too for parking. And its not like you have a choice! I could understand if you could park on the street or pay for garage parking, but there is just no option. Luckily its only $1/day and you can buy a pack of tokens $10 for 20 of them. When we had our daughter we bought an extra pack and let visitors grab a token after visiting.

@T.H.O.U.: Our hospital is $4/hr on the street (!) and $4 for the first hour in the garage, yuck. Its right in the middle of the busy part of the city. I still wish I was delivering at a different hospital, but this is the one with the best NICU

@kodybear: i am so grateful that i've had such uneventful dr's appointments, but i still don't like going! i have to take time off from work to go and yes my OB and the perinatologist are at two different offices so i try to make the appointments on the same day, knock them out together.

@T.H.O.U.: no please! i had no idea they start bi weekly appointments so early! i feel like i just started the second trimester ahhhhh

@chibee: Well I think you do the bi-weekly from like 28-36 (so, week 28, week 30, 32, 34, and 36) and then we start WEEKLY appointments!

Oh boy, it's been a while since I've been on - so much to catch up on!! This is really where we need the pop out reply box...

@BakerBee: Haha, I'm so glad the baby didn't switch sexes again! That would be a little hilarious if they tried to tell you it was actually a girl! Well, hilarious for everyone that wasn't you...

@kodybear: No glucose test yet, my Dr. wants me to do it as close to 28 weeks as possible. I was nervous about the drink for my first pregnancy, but it totally just tasted like Gatorade - not bad at all! I'm hoping for the same this time...

@Mrs. M: Oh man, taking L to my own appointment would be miserable. She would probably be the same - think we're at the Ped's office for shots! Poor kids

@mrskc: Aw, how sweet! No hiccups yet - that was my favorite thing about being pregnant the first time. I loooved baby hiccups!! (in the tummy, baby hiccups after they're born is just pathetic looking!)

@kodybear: Mother's Day plans... going to celebrate DH's Grandmother's 95th birthday in small town KS... woooo. I think I might try to plan a brunch for Saturday or something. Except DH and FIL will HATE to have to miss their *one* productive day that weekend for house/yard work. Maybe the moms should just go get pedicures or something

@T.H.O.U.: Ugh, I forgot that Dr appointments start picking up again. It seems like I am ALWAYS leaving work for appointments... I just had some dental appointments, and then I had a couple appointments for L... paired with my Dr. appointments - that's a lot!

  15. swurlygurl

    honeydew / 7091 posts

    Anybody overdoing it yet?

Spent *all* weekend outside (forgot how much I love Spring and Summer! And Fall... so, basically just how much I hate Winter), and worked WAY too hard. My poor body. I couldn't even sleep. I had to wrap my ankles, and moaned every time I moved. Basically I was a pathetic mess. I bet that'll teach DH to ask me for help from now on!

It sucks though, because I love working on the house and the yard during the nice weather. I went shopping with MIL and we were walking around for 3 hours. That's not even *that* much, but I know it's what started off the pain.

It kinda sucks... being pregnant in the Winter last time was MUCH more convenient!

    pear / 1974 posts

@swurlygurl: me! I didn't realize it was "too much" but I spent all Saturday with my sister who was visiting shopping - like from 10am-6pm and i felt DEAD. Like, i am still sore from walking. from Saturday. I was a pretty active person before, worked out almost every day and ran at least 3 miles a day and now i can't even shop??? this is bizarre for me too!

Had my appointment today! The doctor told me my placenta is on the back and high up, so that might explain why I feel LO kicking/moving practically constantly lol. Everything looks completely normal.

I scheduled my next appointment for June 2. Now's the time I have to actually start thinking about giving birth. The doctor asked me what kind of pain management I want during labour and honestly... I don't know. I really need to start piecing this together.

I also have to go in sometime this week to get my glucose test and the check for antibodies to see if I can get that Globulin shot.

Other than that everything is great!

@chibee: Isn't it so obnoxious?! Stupid body... I think it's because my hips are spreading and really affecting all my muscles and the rest of my bones I'm pretty certain they didn't start spreading this early last time.

@pui: I wonder if that's how L was! I feel like I'm carrying this baby soooo much lower, and I hardly feel any movement - just a few pokes a day. I much preferred the higher baby and the constant movement

@swurlygurl: @chibee: I am so glad I'm not the only one who is tiring easily. We have stairs at work that I have go go up and down about 10x a day and I am moving sloooowly. Yesterday I definitely overdid it cleaning the baby's room and then fell asleep sitting up on the couch with my laptop on my lap in the afternoon.

@pui: I am also starting to think about birth and it's overwhelming! I don't even know what I want.

  21. mrskc

@xInfinity: I have an anterior placenta too and I mostly feel movement on the sides and down low! Interesting... never really thought that was because the placenta was front and center. Makes sense tho.

@kodybear: oh ya, baby girl seems to move a lot when I'm lying down trying to sleep too! No plans for Mother's Day yet. I should go out and get a pedi or something. I haven't had a pedicure since before DS was born! OMG That was over a 1.5 years ago. yikes.

@swurlygurl: hehe I thought the hiccups on the outside were cute too. It was funny how familiar they were. I would think I remember feeling those when you were inside me!

Oh and I can definitely feel my body slowing down. I feel like I can't do as much and I get tired more easily. We went to a bday party yesterday and I was standing a lot for a couple of hours and my feet were really hurting!

@pui: I was always given the rogham shot in the arm so I guess that's a regular shot? I go Thursday for the blood test to make sure I haven't developed antibodies then I think I'll get the shot at 28 weeks.

@mrskc: I know, right? It made so much sense after she said that the placenta is right in the front so you won't feel the movement there as much. I guess I never really noticed/thought about that I had less movement there then the sides and bottom. But as soon as she said that it totally clicked that it was true.

  24. chibee

    pear / 1974 posts

@pui: i wonder if my placenta is in the same place because this baby kicks all day long and i feel him all day! I haven't thought that much about birth either, but i'm 100% sure i want an epidural. that's it for now.

wow i had no idea other hospitals charged for parking! i live in socal, so i just thought it was one of those ridiculous socal things! they really should allow patients to get validated at least tho! i understand charging visitors but its a pain when you're sick or something, AND have to pay parking! boo.

@mrskc: thanks for the heads up! i got a maxi dress and shorts!

@swurlygurl: i'm *trying* not to overdo it but i still feel like an old lady. last week i had this weird butt pain (from google i think pelvic girdle pain??) and i literally walked and bent down like an old lady for a couple days. i don't remember the # of times i told dh that this was the last pregnancy and that i was never doing this again

If you are having a shower, how many weeks will you be? Or if you had one with #1 what do you suggest? My hostesses have given me 2 dates- when I am either 29 or 33 weeks pregnant. 29 seems kind of early, so I guess I'm leaning towards 33. I just want to make sure we have time to figure out what we still need to buy and get things ready before the baby, even if she decides to come early. What do you think?

Neither of the hospitals near me charge for parking... if you can find it. Both of them have valet service for $5, which honestly isn't a terrible deal when you can't find a spot. I have valeted a car and left it overnight before.

@mrs. 64: I had the same issue, based on timing we ended up doing the earlier. With the heat of summers in the South, I think I'll be glad to have it done and start filling in the gaps.

@mrs. 64: My shower is scheduled for when I am 28 weeks. I feel that is pretty early but it is the only time out of state family can come so I wasn't consulted. I am trying not to worry too much about the timing and instead look to the positive, at least I will still be comfortable for my shower.

Mine is when I'll be 29 weeks. The twins could possibly come really early so I wanted to make sure I had enough time to buy the remainder of stuff plus I'm sure I'll be super huge by then and I'd like to be able to walk around and not be incredibly uncomfortable.

I actually just had mine last weekend at 27 weeks. It was early, but I didn't see any problems with it. I was plenty comfortable, and now I have a while to start filling in gaps with plenty of time to wait for sales and things

@mrs. 64: Both my showers were super early - early 20 weeks. One was because I happened to already be going home, so they threw me a shower. The other was because my SIL had a LOT going on, and I was due early January, so she wanted to do it before all the holidays. Plus we had a bunch of cousins coming in town for the Nascar weekend, so it was just a good time.

It was fun being early - I didn't have to do 'guess the belly size' games, and just got to enjoy my shower And, I had plenty of time to shop sales to finish getting what I needed

Having a little pity party for myself... My fingers have been swelling, which is new to this pregnancy. My whole body was SUPER swollen with L, except my fingers, the ring was happily sliding around through the whole pregnancy.

So, I've been ignoring the swelling, hoping it would go away. I noticed some itching under my ring, so I finally got it off after 3 days of trying... it was not pretty This is after 2 days of healing! So, it looks like I'm going to have a pinky wedding ring for the rest of the pregnancy!
