Calling all August 2014 Mummas!

    When I first announced to family, my sister said she would throw me one. However, she definitely doesn't have the funds, so my mom would have bankrolled it. But there is major family drama now and those two aren't speaking, sooooo not sure if I'm even getting one at this point! I'm OK with it though, I don't think it would be very fun with the family drama.

    My sister is throwing me a shower at the end of June, but because she lives out of state we're having it at my house. She has graciously told me that she will be paying for a cleaning lady/service so I don't have to freak out about having the house in order before or after. The rest of the details are a surprise for now.

    I can't wait for the baby furniture to arrive and for the room to start to really take shape!

    Baby has been dancing up a storm lately. Anyone else completely distracted during work by their little gymnist?!

    Was anyone still haven't inconsistent movement at 21/22 weeks? I was feeling her more about 2 weeks ago. Lately I still feel her, but it is only once or twice a day and really light. I tried to ask the ultrasound tech about it last week and she pointed to the ultrasound and said "well she's moving, isn't she?" I know I'm being too much of a worrier but I really wish she'd just let me know she's okay in there.

    @mrs. 64: last time around i had an anterior placenta, so i didn't feel consistent movement till 25-26 weeks! i think my ob said not to worry about how much movement there is till about 28 weeks, or around that time.

    @kodybear: Thanks for the encouragement. I didn't ask them about the position of my placenta. I'm guessing they would tell me if it was anterior? I guess baby girl could tell I was stressing because she started doing a bit of light exercise since I've been sitting down. Also will you add a 24w appointment for May 12? Thanks!

    @mrs. 64: okay, i'l add your appt on the next page! yay for feeling baby girl more! i notice that when i think about how much the baby is moving, the baby isn't moving much. but when i'm busy with something or thinking about other things, the baby is moving like crazy. they know!

    @BakerBee: thank you for asking! <warning - this is prob more info than u wanted to know > my last cervical check on wed wasn't the best. the last 2 weeks my cervical length was about 2.5cm. this week it was closer to 2.2cm. so i'm starting progesterone suppositories which seems to help prevent >40% of preterm labor cases. i think right now my chances of preterm labor are about 12%, so with progesterone i think its about 7%? i'm trying to be optimistic that thats a pretty small number! as far as the other findings, i tested negative for infections that may cause an echogenic bowel, i got panorama testing for genetic testing (similar to materniti21) should have those results next week! if that comes back negative, ill def not worry about the echogenic bowel. i also think i might've caught hand food and mouth disease from my daughter... i'm always full of issues... haha but thanks for checking on me! hoping the progesterone helps and i have a growth scan next week to check on babies size!

    @MrsT927: Yes! I've had crazy kicks in meetings that make me laugh out loud - very awkward. Then yesterday the little guy spent a while rubbing my ribs. It didn't feel like kicks, but a repeated caress...

    I'm actually having my shower next weekend! I think its pretty early cause May and June are packed with family weddings and things. I can't wait to start setting things up. Right now we've pretty much just painted and cleaned out the room.

    @kodybear: I'm sure the progesterone will help. I'm glad they are being proactive with that. Keep us updated when you hear back from the test. I'm sure baby is totally fine!

    @JennyPenny: Haha the repeated caress sounds interesting for sure!

    @kodybear: Fingers crossed that the progesterone works and that everything with baby looks a-okay next week! Keep us posted. That stinks about the HFM - feel better!

    @mrs. 64: i had a anterior placenta with #1 as well. I didn't know until I asked because I wasn't feeling regular movement.

    @kodybear: keep us posted!

    no sprinkle here! Not common in my DH's family and MIL has cancer so yeah, not happening. My only really good friend is out of state. It would have been fun to get together and celebrate. But we'll see how I'm feeling post baby and maybe we'll have a sip n see.

    I've been MIA lately; work has been insane!! But I hope all my fellow August mamas are doing well and babies are progressing nicely! I still have yet to really feel my boys move. Baby A has a (regular) posterior placenta, but Baby B is sitting on top of Baby A and has an anterior placenta. My OB said that's why I have yet to feel anything. I started feeling what I think are "gas bubbles" the other day... but I'm not sure if that was them or... gas

    @kodybear: can you add my next few appointments? I've got my 24 week ultrasound scheduled for May 9th, and my next OB appt scheduled for May 22 (which is just shy of 26 weeks). Thanks!

    Does anyone know what they do at the 24 week ultrasound? Is it another anatomy scan? Does it take as long as the 18-20 week anatomy scan?

    @BakerBee: What a relief!

    @msmug: Once we had our A/S we haven't had any more ultrasounds but I'm sure thats different for you with twins. I imagine they just check basic growth!

    @BakerBee: @locavore_mama: @mrs. 64: thanks! i'll keep u guys updated.

    @msmug: hmm usually at my drs they don't do a 24 week scan. did they say anything about a followup anatomy scan? it could just be a growth scan, which would be a lot shorter than an anatomy scan. they just measure the head and stomach circumference, and check a couple other things like heart rate. and i'll add your appts on the next update!

    @BakerBee: yay!! glad you know for sure now even tho u were pretty sure already. and u got an extra peek at baby!

    anyone do the glucose test yet? i'm about to do it tomorrow! i hope i pass. i can't not eat sugar.

    @kodybear: I had my glucose test yesterday. I should find out the results by Friday! I had the joy of bringing my 15-month old with me and she screamed hysterically during my appointment and blood draw. I'm pretty sure she thought we were at the pediatrician's office for shots since she normally doesn't cry a lot. When they were getting baby boy's heart rate I literally had to lay down and hold her off to the side while she kicked and cried. I usually don't take her to appointments if possible, but my husband had a last minute meeting come up. Never again!!!

    @kodybear: I have my test May 27th. I asked my doctor (or a doctor in my office's practice since I'm making the rounds now) how concerned I should be and she said that a lot of practices these days would forgo the test on me based on my age (27) and that I was previously a healthy weight. I was surprised to hear this. She said to just eat some toast before and to not go crazy on sugar the day before. I told her I would try to keep my jellybean habit in check that week.

    pear / 1616 posts

    @T.H.O.U.: interesting that they have you take it so early as well. is that just normal practice at your drs office?

    @BakerBee: i've heard that too about our age group (i'm going to be 30 in july, but i feel like i'm 27 :-p) . but then i also hear about ppl who have gd that don't fit the profile at all! haha so i dunno! i should prob stop eating candy today then since my test is tomorrow then. haha oops

    @kodybear: My maternity pants feel tight today (word to the wise: don't size down in maternity pants.. you will regret it and feel shameful when you have to get a bigger size)... I probably shouldn't bank on my pre-pregnancy weight and age.

    Good luck today!

  24. T.H.O.U.

    wonderful clementine / 24134 posts

    @kodybear: No its not normal but since my daughter was so large, they wanted to check for it early. But even though I passed and didn't have GD early on doesn't mean I can't still develop it, so I have to be tested again.

    @kodybear: @T.H.O.U.: my on actually tested for glucose levels at my first set of blood work! No prior history.

    My endocrinologist gave me a talking to about my weight. I'm really not listening to her because she's not in charge of the pregnancy and the OB/midwife haven't said anything. That being said I gained 5lbs by 20w and have gained 4 in the last 2 weeks. I know that is totally fine overall, but I definitely can't keep gaining 2 lbs a week! Yikes!

    @mrs. 64: 5lbs TOTAL by 20w? I'd say your doing fabulous and you should ignore the endo! We all have rough weeks, they seem to even themselves out

    I think you mean 9 lbs total right? Even still that's great.

    I just looked at my chart and I was up six, down three, and then up six from there. For a total gain of 9. But even with those six pound jumps they never said anything to me.

    @T.H.O.U.: Yes, 9 lbs total, which I'm totally not going to stress about because I think that's totally fine. I was more worried about the 4 lbs in 2 weeks.

    @chibee: That makes me feel better. I hope I'm just in a little growth spurt and this won't be a trend for the rest of the pregnancy.

    Anyone feeling any hiccups yet? I could have sworn I felt some last week. It felt like a consistent and rhythmic thump feeling. Just like what I remember from when I was pregnant with DS. Can they even start hiccuping yet?

    @mrskc: @t.h.o.u.: I'm pretty sure I felt hiccups on Friday! It felt like what you're describing and was consistent for a minute or two. My OB asked if I'd felt any yet at my last appt (around 22w3d) so I guess it must be possible this early.
