@xInfinity: If I squeeze my breasts, colostrum comes out. But I did just stop breastfeeding a few weeks ago so I don't know if it's left over from that or not. With DS I started leaking colostrum around 26 weeks I believe.

@stratosphere: Oh ouch! I haven't had round ligament pain that bad before. eeek.

    @kodybear: I have a 24 week appointment on 4/28 with a gender re-confirmation.

  12. kodybear

    pear / 1616 posts

@BakerBee: okay added it! have you started buying anything gender related or are you waiting for after this scan? i wouldn't blame you if you waited after all the flip flopping but just curious!

    pomegranate / 3895 posts

@kodybear: We have a video of the scan and feel fairly comfortable with it. We never truly felt comfortable with the other scan. My doctor is just letting me do a re-confirm for peace of mind... and potentially because I was pretty freaked out in my appointment (it was immediately after). I've recently been on a kick that I want to change doctors because I'm embarrassed that she saw me having a mini pregnancy breakdown.

Did you guys meet with your doctor or midwife for a 20w/anatomy scan appointment? I had a 16 week appointment, the anatomy scan at 20, and then I have a 24 week appointment scheduled. I was surprised that I didn't see an actual doctor or midwife after the anatomy scan because I had some things I wanted to ask. Just wondering if that was normal.

    nectarine / 2936 posts

Also, has anyone started thinking about childbirth classes? I looked at the schedule today to see if things were filling up and I found it very overwhelming. There are about 9 different kinds of childbirth classes that my hospital offers and I don't know which to choose. I guess I will ask the midwife the next time I go in but that won't be until mid-May. What are you considering?

  16. xInfinity

    cherry / 240 posts

@mrs. 64: no appointment for me specifically to go over the anatomy scan results although its been the same for blood tests, quad screen and my early ultrasound too. My Dr would call me directly if any test results come back abnormal or with anything that needs to be discussed. Otherwise I just ask about it at my next appt.

@mrs. 64: re: childbirth classes, my hospital only offers two. One that is 4 sessions long, and one that is compacted into a saturday. We're doing the short one because we have conflicts with the 4 sessions long one

Ugh, at my appointment this morning I learned that since my last appointment (4 weeks ago) I've gained 10 POUNDS. I'm not even sure how that is possible! My nausea finally cleared up and I was back to eating pretty decently. I was also measuring 4 weeks ahead in fundal height. I've already taken and passed the 1 hr glucose test, and my urine has looked good at every appointment, but my Dr freaked out about GD. She's ordering another glucose test and told me to stop eating carbs. Stress!

@mrs. 64: I also see a midwife and asked for her specific recommendations on childbirth classes. You can always call and ask for her to ring you back if you don't want to wait until the next appt. She'll be able to let you know which one(s) may be more in line with your desired experience. I am taking a 5 session one put on by the midwife's office and also reading up and practicing my own relaxation and hypnobirthing techniques. I decided against the full hypnobirthing classes based on the additional time and $ commitment.

DH and I hired a doula this past week as well and finding a pediatrician is next on my list. I'd love to get as much done during this happy 2nd trimester as I can!

  21. pui

    bananas / 9899 posts

@mrs. 64: I didn't see a doctor after my 20w scan either. The doctor did call me though to let me know baby looked fine and that it was a girl. My next appointment is at 24 weeks.

  22. T.H.O.U.

    wonderful clementine / 24134 posts

@sharpie: I'm sorry. I did an early glucose test too and now have to repeat it (just to make sure I don't develop GD after I took the first test). So I took the first one at 19 weeks and I think I will take the second at like 28 weeks.

Were your appointments at different times? I was up a few pounds but I think it had to do with the fact that my last appointment was at 8 am and the next appointment was at 4pm.

Are you having regular BM's? If you are constipated you may want to talk to them about stool softeners.

  23. sharpie

    grape / 84 posts

@T.H.O.U.: Same appointment time, but have definitely been a little backed up. I've been taking colace on and off for it, which helps. I need to be more consistent with it, though. I mentioned the constipation when we were discussing the weight gain, but she didn't think it would have made that much of a difference, plus the fundal height was still way off.

  24. T.H.O.U.

    wonderful clementine / 24134 posts

@sharpie: Yea thats odd about fundal height unless they just really mis-measured. When was your last U/S? Maybe you just have a lot of fluid?

  25. regberadaisy

    GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts

@sharpie: I wouldn't worry too much. I gained ~12 lbs between visits over the holidays with my first. My OB didn't bat an eye and just chuckled about it being the holidays.

  26. sharpie

    grape / 84 posts

@T.H.O.U.: Baby was measuring on schedule or maybe a few days ahead at my anatomy scan at 19w1d (currently 23w5d). I had a normal amount of amniotic fluid at that time, too.

However, I am overweight, and I asked if extra abdominal fat would increase a fundal height measurement. She said no, but I am dubious. This is the first time they actually measured, vs. just feeling/estimating cms in relation to my belly button.

@locavore_mama: haha, that does make me feel better! I wouldn't be so worried if she wasn't

  27. kodybear

    pear / 1616 posts

@mrs. 64: i had a 20wk appt but it was about 2 weeks after my anatomy scan. i did talk to my dr on the phone bc of some of the findings from the anatomy scan, but usually its just an appt a couple weeks after. i didn't/won't take any birth classes. i didn't really have a birth plan the first time around, just go with the flow i guess so i didn't think i needed it. for me the less i know the better about childbirth, i didn't want to think about it too much or else i'd prob be scared/worried. luckily the birth went very smoothly.

@sharpie: i feel like fundal height can't be super accurate. i am totally not in the medical profession but i don't understand how every woman would fit one measurement scale for fundal height. i measured small last time around and it was because the baby dropped lower. her growth was right on track though. so i feel like there are alot of factors that affect it... but again, i'm no medical professional.

  28. chibee

    pear / 1974 posts

@mrs. 64: the ultrasound tech took all the measurements and pictures, and then the doctor came in right after to take a second look at a couple of things himself (if he didn't like the pictures) and told me everything looked good and sent me on my way. Not sure if that's standard? I got my NT scan and the anatomy scan at a perinatologists, not at my regular OB's.

    @T.H.O.U.: Here is the list:
    Active Birth, Natural Birth
    Birth Insight Childbirth Education
    Birth Journeys
    Birthworks Complete Childbirth Education
    Confident Childbirth
    Confident Childbirth Refresher
    Advanced Comfort Measures
    Cesarean Birth
    Hypnobirthing

They have descriptions, but a lot of them sound very similar. Some of them do seem to emphasize only natural birth. I want the class that tells you how to get the baby out the fastest with the least amount of pain please! I guess I will just ask the midwife for her rec at my next appointment.

@mrs. 64: Wow, how confusing! What if you want an Active, Natural AND Confident Birth?

Definitely ask your doctor/midwife. We signed up for a "weekend intensive" at a place outside of the hospital. I checked Yelp, and I asked my OB first though, and she said they were good.

No birthing classes for us. I didn't take any with DS and I didn't feel like I missed out.

Anyone else having a hard time with names? Especially being team green has really made it difficult. I was just telling DH I don't have any "if we have a boy/girl this is his/her name" thoughts. I like the names on our list just in love or not sold yet.

My 24 week appointment was this week and was quick. Dr says everything looks great.

My 28 week appointment and GD test is on Monday May 19.

    pomegranate / 3895 posts

@Aandmklover: We already knew our names before getting married (we are crazy like that), but I can't imagine what it's going to be like next time if we have another boy. I'm fresh out of names. I'm thinking embrace me Alabama roots and go Billy Bob BakerBee?

@mrs. 64: Who knew there were so many birthing options... where is the, "Get Baby Out Safely" class? That's mainly what I'm looking for...

@Mrs.Someone: I never thought to check Yelp reviews!

@locavore_mama: I gained 5 lbs over Easter / visiting the in-laws. I didn't even know that was possible. I may have forced my husband on the scale this morning to confirm I wasn't the only fatty who gained weight.

How is everyone doing? I think we all have pretty much reached (or gone over) the halfway point. Does time seem to be moving quicker now? Time doesn't seem to be moving quicker yet for me, but I think once my husband and I start getting serious about preparing it will! Anyone done any major prep yet?

  34. beckysue

@mrs. 64: I had an appointment the week after my nt scan but they didn't go over the scan with me at all except to say that everything looked great.
Also, I would be totally overwhelmed with the amount of classes your hospital has available. My hospital has 1 option the only variation is if you want to take it in one day or spread it over 4 weeks. We opted to go to the 1 day class.

@Aandmklover: I know I am having a girl and I am still struggling with names. We thought we were set on Caitlyn but I am having second thoughts now. Argh!

@BakerBee: Time doesn't seem to be speeding up for me yet either. Maybe it is because our house is super tiny and we don't really have a place to designate as a nursery so my planning is somewhat limited. We are looking for a house to buy but I don't want to rush it since we will hopefully be living in it for many years to come. House hunting is stressful!

  35. kodybear

    pear / 1616 posts

@Aandmklover: i'm having a hard time with names! we have a girl name picked out, but of course we're having a boy dh is actually still team green, so i feel like if i bring up the topic of names, it might be obvious that its a boy?? hah we have a short list for now, so we might decide after the birth i guess. last time we were team green and didn't decide til after too.

@BakerBee: along the same lines, if i gain alot of weight within a day or two, i always make dh check too. haha sometimes i'll ask, "the scales broken right??". of course he shakes his head.. haha time is kind of moving fast, but not. i've been to the dr every week this month to check on the cervix, so it kind of feels like time is going fast, but at the same time i'm just itching to get past the viability point, so 24 weeks seems so far (only 4 more dayssss!)

exciting that some of us are reaching the 24 week viability mark!! yay! home stretch! my cervix seems to be stable, but still short. i'm getting checked again today, if its still stable i can wait 2 weeks b4 the next check (altho i have a 24wk appt next week anyway, so i'll be at the drs again). i also got genetic testing (panorama, similar to maternit21) and infection checks bc of the echogenic bowel. so far toxoplasmosis came back negative! will prob find out next week about cmv (another infection) and genetic testing, if those come back negative i will be much more relieved! happier news, we moved LO#1 to a big girl bed last night and she did awesome. she was a little confused at first, but i think she's loving the extra space. she doesn't know how to crawl out yet, so thankfully she just stays put. i didn't sleep well tho bc i was afraid she'd fall out... even with my massive amount of padding blocking her from falling. hah i think she will adjust just fine tho.

@kodybear: glad to hear things are looking good!

Glad to hear everyone is doing well!

I had some brown spotting two weekends ago for a few days and had my glucose appt last Friday. Told the doctor at the appt about the spotting and he recommended an ultrasound to make sure everything was ok. It was quick but everything looked good- it was nice to see the baby again! And I passed the glucose test, phew!! Still have no idea how much weight I've gained And the crib arrived today. Things are getting so real!! P.S. thanks for all the thoughts/advice regarding day cares. We visited two other places and really liked them both so we're probably going to go with the place closer to our house. I have a sense of calm and relief about it now after seeing that there are places where I would be comfortable sending my baby to!

Is anyone having a shower? When? Theme? I'd love to hear the details!

@Apples4Teacher: I'm having a shower near the end of June. I don't think it has any kind of theme lol. We're all so busy with everything (multiple babies being born, a wedding, a big 60th birthday party...) that I'm fine with a more low-key party.

A cousin (and a few friends) have offered to throw me a shower, but the cousin I accepted from hasn't made any moves as far as I know. I wonder if she is waiting for me to set a date? We talked about it last time I saw her, then she had surgery, so maybe she is just waiting to recover. I was thinking of sending her an email with some date ideas, but not sure what is appropriate... (FWIW, this cousin is in her 50s, well off, and loves to throw parties).
