Ugh, you guys, I am NOT sleeping. Sleep does not exist lately. I was hoping it was because I was busy at work last week, but no. Even after a crazy busy weekend and getting completely exhausted, I could not sleep. My mind just never starts spinning
It was like this last pregnancy too. I can't handle 20 more weeks of not sleeping... haha. As soon as L was born I was able to sleep again, even though I was having to wake up every 2-3 hours to feed her.

    Anyone else struggling with sleep?

@swurlygurl: Yeah my mind has been racing at night too! I'm a pretty light sleeper already, but now when something wakes me up I can't get back to sleep because my brain won't shut up.

@swurlygurl: i am waking up in the middle of the night bc i keep worrying that i'm sleeping on my back. i try to sleep on my side, but i always somehow end up on my back i know it doesn't matter this early on, but i'm trying to get in the habit of sleeping on my side. so thats whats keeping me up these days!

@swurlygurl: I'm not sleeping great, but it's because of this new case of heartburn I've been struggling with. At first I thought it was morning sickness coming back and then I described it to my husband (I've never had heartburn before) and he told me that I was describing heartburn!

I definitely agree with @PUI - once I wake up, I easily start obsessing about various things. Last night I convinced myself that the heartburn was causing tooth decay and brushed my teeth at 3 AM.

@Bakerbee - I'm will you! The heartburn is the cause of my insomnia too!

I usually wake up around 11pm (no matter what time I go to bed) with the burn, try to eat a few tums and prop myself up on pillows a little higher. I have been falling back to sleep, but its definitely not good sleep.

    Baby is *dancing* today!!!
I'm still not feeling real kicks (SO weird - I felt them so much earlier with L, and I thought you're supposed to feel them better with #2. Stupid extra weight...), but it kinda feels like the lava inside my lava lamp is extra heavy

I remember last time L was sooo active during the day - I loved feeling her while I was working

@swurlygurl: I like you're dancing description. I've been feeling more movement the last 4 days. Some definite kicks too. I love it.

Hi everyone! I read everything! Congrats to everyone who found out the gender!! @bakerbee: I would have been so...what's a good word...I don't know, but I would have been stressed out!! I felt like it was a shock to hear one thing at 12 weeks (with a warning that it was just a guess) and then something different at 20...I can't imagine to have the flip-flops!! But congrats nonetheless!!

I was actually in a wedding a few weeks ago but can't help too much with dress recommendations bc I was wearing a bridesmaid dress (non maternity) it was empire waist though which was good but it did need some alterations to fit.

I've been feeling more random and sporadic movements but DH hasn't yet.

I also painted the nursery last week with my mom and did a bunch of research for other items we need to get.

My new stress now is daycare options. I would love to have family watch but it's not an option rigjhr and its just now dawning on me that it will have to be virtually a stranger watching my baby. What are all your daycare situations? Any advice? We've talked to a few people via recommendations but it still seems like a scary, stressful choice and I know I will be a basket case when the day comes to drop him off for the first time!!

Have a good week and good appointments to all!!

@swurlygurl: Busy time for us is between about 5-7 pm, she really gets active then. And I've just noticed the movements are getting stronger and more defined today and yesterday. Up to now its been more of that fluttery/shifting kind of feeling.

@mrs. 64: Yay, so exciting that you get to find out next week! I go back on the 15th to confirm our "guess" of girl from the 18 week ultrasound.

@Apples4Teacher: daycare is a tough choice! And a very personal choice as well because there's so many options. Ask around for personal recommendations and give yourself plenty of time to visit centers or in home care or interview nannies.

Daycare was always the choice for us. We have to decide if we're going to pull LO and put her in a new daycare or stay at the same after #2 arrives.

You're a teacher right? I think it'll be important for you to find someone who will be willing to work with a flexible schedule. So you don't end up paying for days and break when you don't send LO when you're off.

  20. mrs. 64

    nectarine / 2936 posts

@Apples4Teacher: Daycare has been absolutely overwhelming for me. I live in a good sized city, but most daycares seem to be in the burbs. There are about 5 day care centers near here with good reputations, but they all have ridiculously long waiting lists. I have known several people that never got into any, which really stresses me out. I would talk to people about recommendations and go on tours, the earlier the better if it is competitive in your area. The other downside as a teacher is that everywhere I have looked into requires you to pay through the summer to reserve your spot for the following fall. I get it, but it stinks. I'm thinking about looking for some in home options to see if I can get a little more flexibility. Good luck!

We just went with a center because they offered the most flexible hours. We have been happy there but we are looking at other options for #2.

    nectarine / 2460 posts

@Apples4Teacher: We're on the waitlist for our work's on-site daycare which is supposed to be really excellent. We won't find out if we get in till June though. We have a guaranteed spot at a daycare near our house that is well liked too. We found it basically how @locavore_mama said - personal recommendations. The only issue is they don't accept babies until 12 weeks of age and I had planned to go back to work at 8 weeks. I guess we'll see....

  23. smores

    cherry / 163 posts

Thanks for all the advice @jennypenny, @T.H.O.U, @Mrs. 64, and @Locavore_Mama!! I think we're going to go with an In-home Daycare or a Center. Most of the in-home places have been flexible regarding breaks and summer so that's good. We've only gotten three recommendations...I'm just starting to get sad bc my mom is able to watch my niece but we don't have that option bc we live too far away...

  24. kodybear

    pear / 1616 posts

@Apples4Teacher: We use a center. My husband is an assistant principal so he is on a school schedule too, but we keep LO in daycare during the summer so we don't lose her spot. I think most centers aren't as flexible about taking time off in the summer but LO is learning a lot and has fun at daycare so we don't mind keeping her in there in the summer!

  25. regberadaisy

    GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts

@Apples4Teacher: not sure what state you're in but another spot to check is your states accreditation site. Or just putting a call out on fb or local mom groups?
If the daycare is flexible on days they might let you go down to 1-2 days during the summer, etc. Ie I'm currently laid off and we're keeping LO in 2 days a week to hold her spot.

@swurlygurl: oh no! That stinks! I hope you are able to get some better sleep. Does writing in a journal before bed help you? I find that when my mind is spinning with so many thoughts, getting them down on paper helps a lot.

    @T.H.O.U.: thanks for checking up!

the follow up scan took an unexpected turn. about the previous issues they saw, i do have a marginal cord insertion (cord is inserted on the side of the placenta instead of the middle) but it shouldn't cause any issues and my growth will be monitored with the fundal height. the echogenic bowel wasn't as bright this time, but still alittle bright, the dr said i could look into doing materniti21 testing but all the other markers/genetic testing i've done have been normal. the thing i didn't see coming was that now apparently the dr saw that my cervix was shortening as well. right now its at about 2.75cm, it should be closer to 3-3.5cm at this stage... so now i'm on modified bed rest and i have to be monitored again next week to check the length. he said if its continues to shorten then i'll have to take progesterone suppositories or shots to help and be monitored alot of course. aiya, this boy is already a troublemaker! luckily dh has spring break the next 2 weeks to help out more!

I finally had my anatomy scan today. Baby looked great. Healthy and big...13 ounces, yikes (high end of the range they gave us)!
We also finally got to find out the gender, it's a !!

I am soo excited. I thought we were having a boy from very early on so a little surprised but soo excited too! Now we have to pick a girl name. We are struggling with girl names and were totally set with our boy name. Oops, lol!

  37. T.H.O.U.

    wonderful clementine / 24134 posts

@beckysue: Congrats! 13 ounces doesn't sound too terrible, I had my scan at like 18 weeks and was told 10 ounces (measuring a week ahead).

  38. beckysue

@T.H.O.U.: Thanks! And, thanks for letting me know about the weight. I worry about having a huge baby. My mom was tiny and all her babies were close to 9 lbs. They did let her go 2 weeks past her due date with all three of us though. I have another appointment on 4/15 where they will probably review all the measurements taken today. Not sure if they will adjust my due date or not, we only spoke with the ultrasound tech today.

  39. kodybear

    pear / 1616 posts

@beckysue: Yay!! congrats on your girl!! i'm alittle less than a week ahead of you and they told me yesterday my baby is 15oz and measuring exactly 50% percentile for everything! hehe so 13oz doesn't seem too big to me. also, we have the opposite problem with names- we agreed on a girl name but are undecided for boy! and of course we're having a boy

  40. beckysue

    cherry / 186 posts

@kodybear: Thanks for the reassurance on baby size.
Also, it figures about the name thing. I was joking before we went to our scan that she would be a girl because we cannot agree on names for girls. DH vetos everything!!
