@snowjewelz: I googled after you said this and read this: http://www.mannlymama.com/2012/12/wonder-week-19-aka-4-month-sleep-regression/ ... EXACTLY, especially this, "Slippery slope of desperation sets in and you start going into survival mode. Swing sleeping, cosleeping, more milk, solids…ANYTHING (not that any of that is bad, it is just sometimes done in hopes to magically fix something). I know, because I was there last time."
My motto for the next week or however long this is going to last: "JUST.GET.THROUGH.IT"

@josina: I hope it doesn't last as long as he chart says... But it makes me feel for her and be more patient. Even tho it's still not fun at all to go through this!!

@snowjewelz: I bought and read the wonder weeks book with k, and it really was spot on for most of her worst fussy periods. With e, I haven't noticed it that much but I think her personality is a bit more mellow. That being said, the week 19 one you mentioned has been the worst by far! Definitely waking more at night, eating less during day, clingier, and fussier. We should be out of it soon!!

@josina: ohhh man....that scares me, I feel like we are sooo good in areas and awful in others......I guess we all feel that way at some point
what got me was the head support thing, G seems to rock and will even sit up basically some days and then barely sit in Bumbo on others, so that made me feel better!

@MamaG: We have this rolling problem with M too. We always have to tell him he can roll after we're done. lol
M's ped said we could start with solids too whenever we want, but I'm saying no until closer to 6 months. DH didn't disagree with me since I research baby stuff (& use HB's wealth of knowledge).
@snowjewelz: Ahh wonder leap 4 sucks. M started waking up every hour a few nights ago, but now he's back to sleeping pretty well (for the most part).

@josina: we started solids at 4.5 months with Tyler he was having some reflux related bottle refusal and we were also super excited to start solids! This time I would prefer to wait til 6m though Ryan's GI doctor suggested rice cereal to thicken his feedings 2 mos ago! It didn't make much sense since he only gets a bottle a day. I'll wait to see the gi doc again in a month before we give him anything though I may do the rice cereal in bottle at bed time to see if it helps with the spit up. I thought rice cereal in bottles was a no no but apparently it's commonly recommended for babies with bad spit up (Ryan's is still awful).

@snowjewelz: I have this app too! I was going to mention it here but Ryan has definitely been "claiming more attention" by yelling and yodeling for us! (Not crying!)
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@winniebee: hahaha I wanna hear some of that yodeling!
At her night wake up and nursing sessions she would just twist her head to look at me and start babbling, for a REALLY long time... I'm like... Love to talk to you... Just not at this hour.. !
pomelo / 5660 posts
I can't remember if I already posted but we won't start solids until she can sit up on her own and has better control of her arms. I'd like to do BLW. She is definitely interested in food, like stalker level interested....

@winniebee: regarding spit up, K's is still bad too. Only moderately improved. When I said something to her teacher this morning, her response was, "what's with all the spit up? Every one of the babies currently spits up a bunch." Interesting!
honeydew / 7283 posts
@winniebee: @MamaG: I think J's spit up is just starting to improve a little in the last few days (he's 19 weeks). Up until now it's been ridiculous. We are just absolutely covered all of the time. The dog just runs around licking things. Gross.
Anyway, I'm thrilled for the minor improvement. Hope it gets better for you guys soon!
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@MamaG: @MrsF: interesting! Yeah I mean some days seem like normal baby spit up amounts. Other days I can't understand how hrs having wet diapers. I think beans might be a trigger because he's been soooo bad the past few days and it seems to be the case each time I eat them. I'm glad it's getting better for baby J. I have a feeling we are in the spit up crew for the long haul. We don't even use burp cloths. Full on swaddle blankets FTW.
honeydew / 7283 posts
@winniebee: Don't get me wrong - the spit up is still epic We're using swaddle blankets as well! Occasionally I think I don't have any spit on me... and then I realize my shoulder has been spared but my back is soaking wet.
M just looks at me, disgusted, and says "he fit all over you mom. that's gross."
pomelo / 5298 posts
@MrsF: @winniebee: Do your kiddos spit up all the time? Like this morning, K ate at 5:00, burped and went back to sleep in her RnP. Two hours later after I changed and dressed her and set her back in the RnP for me to finish getting ready - spit up! All over the new clothes I just put on her. And sometimes we have a feed with no spit up and I feel like we are doing awesome, then the next feed is ridiculous.
honeydew / 7283 posts
@MamaG: it's really unpredictable. Sometimes he'll be fine right after the feed but then spit up in a little bit. Most days it honestly feels like it's at least every 20 minutes, particularly with changes in his position. I swear I'm not exaggerating. M was the same way (but she had painful reflux, while J seems to be a happy spitter) so at least I know it ends, but it's so frustrating to all be covered in it.
pomelo / 5660 posts
Neither B or D spit up. However, she blows bubbles and has taken to eating her hands or feet.
pomelo / 5298 posts
@BandDmommy: Ha! We have that too, bubble blowing, drooling and eating anything in sight. The infant stage is so glamorous But darn if they aren't cute while doing it all.
grape / 96 posts
@winniebee: 'spit up crew' member here. It's markedly better now @19 weeks but even today there's been at least 2 with one major episode -just as we were leaving the house, mind!
@MrsF: lol that sounds like our dog too. A few days ago I caught her in a dirty diaper (poop). I can't even.

Lil Trufflehunter gained 170g this last week! Cue sigh of relief. I was fully expecting to see 0 progress again and then go make an appointment with one of the nurses to discuss what can be done. I convinced myself my milk was bad (I had ruled out supply based on the fact that she wouldn't take a bottle of EM after a breast feed, AND I could pump one ounce right after a feed so I am sure there is enough milk).

Worst sleep ever. Sleep training in the crib starts next sleep. I'm tired and cranky. It's 4:00 and I've barely slept.
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@MamaG: it's all day every day. Less overnight. But he had a 430 am feed and spit up at 630 randomly. It's the worst immediately after but that doesn't mean we are aafe at any point in time.
@Trufflehunter: great news!!!!
Shitty sleep club. Up at 1230 and 430-530 and up for the day at 615 when big brother started shouting in our room. Time to move him to his crib and swaddle wean. Ordered a zipadee zip but I might just go for the sleep sack tonight. Lord help us all.
pear / 1961 posts
@mrsf: Bad sleep here too -- maybe it's contagious Up at 1a, 330a, and for the day at 630a. But she caught a bit of a cold somewhere (K and I have it too...), so I think the dry air/coughing is affecting her at night.
@winniebee: maybe he'll surprise you and take to it like a champ!
@trufflehunter: i'm sure that's a relief!

so sorry for all of you in the spit up crew. micah's spit up is sooooo much better now, but man- it was so tough for awhile. hoping it starts getting better for you all too!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@Trufflehunter: Yay
And I hope you figure out what the real issue is at your appointment! Do you have any inkling to what it might be if it's not supply?
@MamaG: I am so sorry! I keep saying we gotta sleep train too after a horrible night, but to be honest I am terrified to (even though I know I should and it will be good for her in the long run)
@winniebee: Yes Lord help us all!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
K doesn't really spit up either, but drools and ton and blowing tons of raspberries too
Went from 7-9:30 in and out of sleep, crying, fussy, etc again. Sometimes I feel like I just shouldn't try to put her to sleep and let her cry and what not, since she still cries when I rock her anyway!
She actually did sleep for almost 7 hrs, BUUUUT the fact is I was up every few hours either putting paci in, or physically holding down her randomly flailing arms (otherwise she'll start getting really worked up). And also had to wake her to do a poopy diaper change... She's still pooping way more often than usual but better than before I guess??
Now I am re-questioning whether I want to sleep train. I feel bad if she's already going through a crazy leap and I'm adding even more stress to her??
pomegranate / 3973 posts
@MamaG: @winniebee: @KayKay: Sorry guys for shitty sleep! We are there to yet... ugh. Up every 2 hours or less!
I tried the crib last night, just a sleep sack and put him down on his tummy at 8:30 (while I constantly checked the cam). He woke up at 10 and probably would've gone back to sleep but spit up so when I cleaned him up I flipped him, and all over from there. I did let him cry for 5 minutes but the prob is that his sisters room is next to his and his crying would wake her up (our room is soundproofed so I can't hear him unless the volume is up on the camera!).
I'll probably have to try sleep training on a weekend when sis doesn't have school in the morning - or she'll probably get up to get him!
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@snowjewelz: My theory is that there will always be a reason to not sleep train - teething, wonder week, new skill. You just have to go for it when you are ready!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@josina: lol she'd be like mom can't you hear baby crying?!
@winniebee: that is true. i am so ready but also so not...!
And I just found out DH is holding her for naps this whole day.. I think daddy might be even less ready than me!

Have any of you noticed improvements when using the Merlin suit (or Zippadee-Zip) - or any other sleep suit? We currently don't use anything other than a light sleep suit, our room gets really warm at night so I didn't want him getting too hot, but his room is fairly cool, and I need some help in the sleep department! I also don't want to buy something thats only going to be useful for a couple weeks before he grows out of it...
pomegranate / 3973 posts
@snowjewelz: Apparently I accidentally tried the CIO already... I had placed him in his crib at a 5 am wake-up figuring he'd be fine to just look at his mobiles / slightly fuss. Big sis (12) said he cried for a half hour/40 minutes before she got up to get him - which is when we realized I couldn't hear him at all! (his room is right next to ours, crib directly across from our headboard).
Am I ready to purposely do a 40 minute CIO - NO! So that's scary that he couldn't comfort himself after that long either.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@josina: I think the Merlin is helping right now b/c she still has some strong reflexes and the merlin helps to weigh her down a bit, but still allow her to use her arms/hands.
Haha maybe you should let her do CIO lol!
pomegranate / 3045 posts
@josina: sounds like h and e have similar sleep - we are still getting up every 1-2 hrs The Merlin and zipadeezip didnt work, but it's just because he fights them so hard (he never liked being swaddled either).
Ugh and the worst part is, I don't know what to do about any kind of sleep training, since we are in a one bedroom. Poop.
pomelo / 5660 posts
@josina: no idea if zipadeezip helps because she has always been a good sleeper.
