@winniebee: our midnight feeding is longest, about 40 minutes. 3 am is much shorter, about 20 minutes and 6 am is about 20 minutes.

After a good first night, Charlie has had a rougher day and a half. Yesterday was filled with lines being placed, X-rays, ultrasounds, echos, etc, so I hardly got to see him, which has been really hard. He has two undescended testicles, had two bouts of his heart rate jumping to near 300 for a short while due to them placing a line too close to his heart, his abdomen is distended and he had trouble pooping and peeing, and was put on cpap to help him breathe against the pressure from his belly. He finally has good urine output and has pooped, but they found air in his belly, so he is in surgery now to look for the source and hopefully fix it. This should alleviate a lot of other problems, but I am so terrified. None of this is directly related to his heart, which has made it extra hard to handle. If you guys can send a prayer or good thoughts up for my baby, I would really appreciate it.

@BandDmommy: thank you! He is about half way through surgery and we were told he is doing really well so far. So grateful!

@MrsScallop: Prayers sent for Charlie, your family and the medical team. Big hugs for you as well.

@MrsF: @winniebee: Thanks for being so supportive about our feeding journey, I really do appreciate it. Sometimes I feel alone in this community with my formula feeding decision. No one has ever passed judgement about formula feeding but HB is very full of breast feeding mommas.
@snowjewelz: I've been where you are and it's a hard place. Just know that you aren't alone and breastfeeding is hard. It's not nearly as easy as it seems. In the hospital when they had us supplement, the better nurses preferred that we use a syringe (like a medicine dropper) for supplementing so that we had better control over flow and weren't introducing a bottle for confusion. I was also using a shield. It might be something else to try in your supplementing. I'm not sure how much you are offering to K.
I hope you have a better day today and K can stay more satisfied.

@MamaG: thank you!
He is out of surgery and everything went well. He had a hole in his large intestine that they repaired, but has an ostomy bag to let it heal. Hopefully everything heals well and they can put everything back in a week or so.

@MrsScallop: praying for his recovery glad the surgery went well!

@MamaG: Thanks! It's so comforting to know that I'm not alone! Every time we've supplemented we just used bottle, I have no idea if she has nipple confusion since I use a shield. I try on & off without one but I don't think she can latch unless I pump to draw out my nipples right before.
I might start getting DH to feed her once every day and use that session to pump instead to start a pumping regimen and see how that goes...

@MrsScallop: oh my gosh mama in so sorry for the scary health troubles. How are you holding up? What do they think about his potential heart defect? I'm thinking about you guys and hope he makes a quick recovery.

@snowjewelz: @MrsF: @winniebee: @rattles: thank you all!
@winniebee: I am ok now. Yesterday and this morning were rough, but seeing him more relaxed and deflated has made me feel so much better. The nurse said he is such a rock star as you couldn't tell from his stats that he had a big hole in his bowel. He looked fine otherwise! He definitely has a heart defect that has to do with his aorta being too narrow, but that surgery has been put on hold until his bowel issue is better.

@MrsScallop: I'm so sorry to hear about all the scary health issues Charlie is dealing with, but I am so glad that surgery went well! Hopefully he mends very quickly. I am keeping you guys in my thoughts!!
@snowjewelz: @MamaG: breastfeeding is effing hard, yo!! haha. You would think that something so natural, and that women and babies have been doing for thousands of years, wouldn't be so difficult.

@winniebee: MOTN feeds are slow for us too. 30 minutes if I'm lucky, but usually closer to an hour!
@MrsScallop: Poor Charlie! Praying for him and you as well! I hope everything turns out okay.

@MrsScallop: Yeah for Charlie. One surgery successfully done. Sorry for the stress its causing for you, but clearly y'all are in good hands at your hospital. I hope the heart issue ends up being as easy to handle. I'll be hoping all sorts of healthy thoughts for him.

November moms: Can we add your babies to the listing. You've been kind enough to join us, you should be listed too
I'm ready for the holidays to be OVER! We are having some family drama and I'm just over it and ready to be back to my blissful little world where all I can really deal with is 3 year old night time drama and my own fussiness over having to wake up in the middle of the night to feed an infant!

@theotherstark: I remember feeling angry at breastfeeding class bc they make it seem like the easiest thing in the world and I know its anything but!
@MamaG: Im sorry you have to deal with family drama around the holidays with a newborn! If DD and I are not having s good day I seriously want to strangle everyone that say a word to me lol!

@MrsScallop: so sorry to hear about Charlie's health issues. My brother had intestinal surgery when he was only a few days old, and he recovered very well. Keeping you and your family in my thoughts.

@theotherstark: No joke! It's been much easier for me this go around (so far at least - knock on wood!), but at this point with L, I still had bleeding nipples and practically cried when it was time to feed her again!
@MamaG: Boo for drama! You definitely have enough on your plate without that! Here's hoping everyone gets over themselves soon and that all the holiday sweets and spirits soothe you until then!

OMG, this MOTN feeding is taking forever. He's been cluster feeding for an hour and a half! Go to sleep, Logan!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@MrsF: Thanks! He finally went down 20 minutes after my post and slept for 3 hours, which was awesome! Hoping this feeding is a lot shorter.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@Adira: Hope he is finally done and you can sleep! I'm sitting up nursing now... Side lying for MOTN feeding is tough bc I have no clue how long she ate for! We both just pass out at some point!
Btw did your ped say to give your LO vitamin D drops?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@snowjewelz: Thanks! That feeding was shorter and I feel like I got a decent amount of sleep for the night.
And yes to vitamin D drops. I've already started giving them to Logan. I actually take a vitamin D supplement myself because we live in New England and definitely don't get enough sun, especially in the winter.

Yay, I'm so excited to be here! Baby girl is doing great, latched right away and gave us a big sleep from 2:00 a.m. until now :))) tried nursing and just didn't want to, sooo I guess I'll let her sleep......
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@FaithFertility: Yay! Welcome to the postpartum thread!! That's awesome how well she nursed originally. How long has it been since then? You might want to try to wake her to eat because she might be slightly jaundiced if she's too sleepy to eat...

Excited to join you ladies! Micah and I are hopefully going home either tonight or tomorrow morning. We are doing great though! Getting in & out of bed and trying to walk is torture though! I had to have a c section and you can read the birth story over in the birth story thread if you'd like. He's a champion at breastfeeding so far so I'm anxious to see how things will go when my milk comes in.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@whenoceansrise: Yay! Welcome!! That's great that Micah's such a good nurser. How are you feeling about breastfeeding so far? Are you sore? Bummer about the c-section - hope you start feeling better soon.
nectarine / 2053 posts
@Adira: at first it was hard getting him to eat because all he wanted to do was sleep, but now he will latch right on and usually eats for about 30 minutes. My nipples are a little sore but not bad at all!
