@MrsScallop: Welcome to MOTN feedings! Or pumping in your case right now, which is totally worse because you aren't enjoying snuggles while you do it.
persimmon / 1328 posts
@Adira: thanks! I do wish I could be snuggling, but I have to say I am super proud that I am getting some colostrum out with my pumping, so at least I am up and producing! It would be so much worse to be up and getting nothing out too.

@MrsScallop: welcome!
Our night was good. D has been sleeping longer stretches, about 4 hours. The only thing we struggle with is initially getting her down. I feel like she cluster feeds for 2 hours before falling asleep.
Anyone up to anything fun? It's supposed to rain today so im not sure what I'll do to entertain B. Im thinking taking him to Chickfila to play.

I think Logan might have a cold, but I'm not sure. He's been sneezing a bunch. Is that normal for a newborn or a sign of illness? He's still been eating and sleeping just fine (besides eating more often at night the past two days). Hubs took the NoseFrida to him yesterday and did suck out a little mucous, but Logan doesn't seem to have a runny nose for the most part. Any ideas? We have his two week well visit today so we'll be seeing a pediatrician regardless. Hubs also seems to think that Logan is only waking up more often at night because he's sick, but then wouldn't he wake up more often during the day if that was the case?

@winniebee: congrats on the weigh-in! So nice not to have that worry
I hope you got a little more sleep last night. Having to get up with a toddler makes it so much harder! (and ours has decided to get up even earlier lately)

@Adira: J sneezes a lot but doesn't seem sick, so I think it's just a baby thing - at least for him. Hope L is ok and it's nice that you have a pedi appointment anyway!

@Adira: I googled it since my husband was worried about it too, and it's supposed to be a normal newborn thing
persimmon / 1328 posts
@Adira: aw, hope it is just a newborn thing and not him being sick!
@BandDmommy: glad you had a goodnight! Nothing fun here, but family is coming down to visit charlie, so that might be a bit hectic. They only allow 4 people at a time and there are at least 6 coming down!
persimmon / 1328 posts
Apparently Charlie had a good first night, just a bit gaggy from left over fluid/blood in his stomach from delivery. Just waiting to get my check up over with so I can go see him!

@Adira: I read its common for BF newborns to sneeze a lot. D always sneezes after BF.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@MrsF: @Miss Ariel: @MrsScallop: @BandDmommy: Thanks ladies!! Maybe he's not really sick, which is my hope! I'll get confirmation at the pediatrician's though, I'm sure.
@MrsScallop: YAY! Glad he had a good night and you get to see him soon!!!

@Adira: K has been sneezing since birth (literally). She does have a little bit of congestion that you can hear sometimes. She doesn't have a runny nose either but there is some mucus when we suction her nose. She also has clogged tear ducts, which might attribute to her sneezing as well. Even if he has a cold, there's not much to do about it as it doesn't sound like he's very bothered.

@MrsScallop: Yippee! and Congratulations, glad to hear you are both doing well.

Not much exciting here today. I think I'm going to try to make some Christmas goodies. I spent a small fortune at the store yesterday buying ingredients. I also need to go get some stamps so I can get our Christmas cards/Announcements in the mail. I've had them ready since the weekend but am missing stamps!
I also want to get to BBB sometime this week to look at a different diaper bag.
And last but not least, I have some Christmas present DIY that I need to get done. And gift wrapping too!
That's really more of a to-do for the week!
C is at school so no need for me to keep her entertained.

@MrsScallop: so glad that Charlie had a good night! J had some gagging for a few days after birth too. Hope you're able to be with him soon!

@Adira: Ryan is super sneezy the past few days as well. T has a lingering cough from a cold a few weeks ago (ok, let's face it toddlers always have colds) so I am just watching him closely. My MIL just texted me she came down w/ a sore throat....and was here all weekend. Sweet.
Fun stuff today....today T is at school from 9-3 (I actually got him there on time?!) and so it's just me and the little guy. Looks like a bomb went off in our house so I should probably deal with that. Then shower and do our Christmas cards...and I really need to get to Carters to pick up a few more warm sleepers. I had bought 5 preemie size sleepers thinking that's what he would be wearing but he came nowhere near fitting into them (way too long) and I've already done 2 loads of his laundry this week (boy diaper changing woes....) and just don't feel like doing that anymore haha. And a nap, I could really use a nap.
I can't believe Ryan a week old today. I have to say I have had a much easier time bonding with him than I did with our first. I think part of it is just being more relaxed this time and BF being easier...and also we had SO many visitors last time around I felt like I never got to hold him. That's not the case this time
Last night was not a great sleep night but he didn't go down until late for a variety of reasons. He cluster feeds basically from 4pm every hour until bedtime and we were out from 5-8 and he slept in his carseat that whole time so he missed out I think? He only slept 11-1, 2-4, 4:30-545, and then until 7:30. Typical newborn sleep I guess!
pomelo / 5660 posts
@winniebee: dang, I wish I knew that, I could have sent some sleepers as well.
B is getting hair cut today. We have Xmas pics tomorrow morning at 8:30 am.

@MamaG: Having the older child in school while you're home with the baby is seriously the best thing ever. I hope you're able to have a productive day!
@winniebee: I'm with you 100% on bonding being easier this time around! It took me sooooo long to bond with Xander, but this time has been a lot quicker. Definitely thinking being more relaxed and BF being easier is making a HUGE difference! Bummer about the sleep though - the same thing happened to us on Friday - I had a doctor's appointment and he slept the whole time we were out, which was like 3 hours, so then he was making up for it in the evening and at night!
Two week well visit was today!! Logan has surpassed his birth weight!! 9 lbs 5.5 oz, 21.5 inches long, 31.5 cm head circumference! I'm sooooooo happy to know he's growing just fine and is clearly getting enough to eat, though I already thought he was. And she didn't think he had a cold either - sneezing, some coughing and mucus, is all normal at this point! Since he doesn't have a fever or a constant runny nose, she thought he was fun. Yay!
My parents are coming over tonight and bringing dinner, so my goal for the day is to clean up a little bit, haha. We'll see if that happens... I'm feeling lazy.

@Adira: we are about every 3 hours. We go longer stretches at night but cluster feed right before bedtime.
nectarine / 2028 posts
@Adira: Every 3 hours (sometimes a tad longer or shorter based on naps/fussiness) during the day. At night I can sometimes get 3.5.....SO desperate for longer night stretches! @BandDmommy: Any tips/tricks for longer night stretches, since D is getting them? Sleeping for less than 2.5 hours at a time is getting old!
pomegranate / 3973 posts
@Adira: We were going 2 to 3 hours and 4 hours at night, but the past couple days he's been eating every hour to hour and a half. I get some 5 minute feedings where he falls asleep and others are 20 minutes. E is 3 weeks tomorrow.
pear / 1961 posts
@adira: we usually do every 2.5-3 hrs during the day, sometimes a little closer together (1.5-2hrs) in the evening when she tends to cluster feed and, I imagine, my supply is a little lower.
at night, we range from 2.5-4 hrs between feedings. she is a total snuggle monster, so if we let her sleep on one of us, she will be toasty warm and sleep longer. if we go with the bassinet, she normally starts grunting and moving after 2.5 hrs, and i try to feed her before she gets too worked up so that she'll go right back down.

Is everyone still changing diapers in the MOTN? I obviously always change poo but last night at the 4 am waking I didn't change his pee. He was up again at 545 though and I did change him then....
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@Adira: yay for a great visit! And that no one is sick!
I'm exhausted.. She has been fussing since 8 going on for 6 hrs now. I swaddle, rock, sing, feed, change diaper, repeat...
persimmon / 1168 posts
@winniebee: I have a diaper tote next to the bed and his crib is in our room so sometimes I just throw down the changing pad and change him on the bed.
Speaking of diaper changes, any moms of boys have tips for not getting peed on every single change?!?
So behind on everyone's updates but hope you all are doing good.
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@magnolia: yeah I do it in bed too it just sometimes results in pee everywhere so i hate it! What I've been doing is opening the diaper quickly and then shutting it Bc sometimes the cold air triggers the pee. Otherwise I turn his penis facing down during the change (and keep it down in the diaper) so that if he pees it goes away from him and not all over him.
pomelo / 5660 posts
@winniebee: Only #2. Otherwise, I like to keep the MOTN feeding short and sweet
pomelo / 5660 posts
D sleeps in PNP next to bed that has diaper changing station. It makes it pretty easy.
honeydew / 7283 posts
@winniebee: happy one week! I'm definitely with you on the bonding being easier with number 2. I'm not sure what it is, but it felt almost immediate this time whereas it took a looooong time with M and I felt very guilty about it. Maybe I'm putting less pressure on myself this time?
pomelo / 5660 posts
@snowjewelz: Ouch, no sleep? Have you tried really wearing her out? Like wake, tummy time, eat and then sleep. Another option is babywearing. D will eventually fall asleep if I wear her. My fail all is car rides, that put B to sleep when nothing else worked.
honeydew / 7283 posts
@Adira: at 3 weeks we're probably doing every 3 hours in the mornings, cluster feeding in the evenings and the nights are kind of a crapshoot.
pomelo / 5660 posts
For those whose LO #2 is a different gender, do you accidentally say the wrong gender? I sadly say "he" all the time, even though I clearly now she's a girl.
honeydew / 7283 posts
@winniebee: I'm still changing it with every feed. Usually there's at least a little poop there, but he pees so much it leaks if I don change it. Probably time to move up to size one diapers.
honeydew / 7283 posts
@snowjewelz: that sounds like a rough day. I'm sorry
My last ditch is always holding him while bouncing on the yoga ball. Haven't needed it much yet with J, but it saved my life with M!
honeydew / 7283 posts
@BandDmommy: I've been doing that too! I have a daughter and a female dog, so it doesn't feel very natural to say "he".
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@winniebee: Still changing with every feed, but Logan poops a lot!
@magnolia: I sometimes put a wipe over his penis while I'm cleaning him up to prevent getting peed on. Also, go as quickly as possible!
@BandDmommy: Not the opposite gender, but I call Logan Xander all the time!
