Ok so maybe I shouldn't nurse laying down... Last feed was at 12 something, I have no idea how long she ate for! So now I'm sitting back up to make sure she is eating enough.

Ugh, cluster feeding in the MOTN is the worst! I hope everyone else is getting more sleep than me.

Really hoping that this is the two week growth spurt and that Logan will go back to sleeping better in a couple days! I'm so tired!

@Adira:
I am so tired. I think the hardest thing about having a newborn is the unpredictability. I hate going to bed and not knowing if we'll get any sleep. Ugh.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@MrsF: I agree about the unpredictability being the hardest part. Not just sleep, but I never know if it's safe to put him down so I can have a bite to eat or take a shower!
nectarine / 2210 posts
@magnolia: I'm definitely feeling similar. My dad and grandma flew out and are staying at a nearby hotel for 10 days. And while it's nice having them here, I think somethings would be calmer or easier on our own.

@mrsf: yes it is. I forgot how anxious it makes me, starting right around dinner time.
honeydew / 7283 posts
@Adira: @KayKay: totally. I get especially anxious as it starts to get dark out - wondering what the night will be like.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@MrsF: @Adira: Ugh completely agree! Having been at this for 10+ days now, the worst is you don't know what's waiting for you each day, and I'm starting to feel so repetitive... I literally just feel like a milk cow!

I have a really dumb question. Kara has been in one piece footies this whole time, and I realize I don't know how to put a regular onesie on?! Do you pull it over from her head down?! I kinda tried but she went berserk that I was putting something through Her head/face! I also was gifted a lot of those gowns with no legs and I'd like to use them!
honeydew / 7283 posts
@snowjewelz: you do pull a regular onesie over their head - but my DD definitely didn't tolerate anything being pulled over her head as a newborn. We didn't use any of the gowns or the onsies for a long time. It wasn't worth the freak out! I haven't even tried anything but footed sleepers with baby J.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@MrsF: I guess I'm gonna put those gowns away! My Christmas outfit is s onesie so I'll have to brave it for that one day! I ended up watching some youtube videos about it lol!

Had another check up today; she gained back Her birth weight plus 1 oz! I am SO relieved!
honeydew / 7283 posts
@snowjewelz: I'm sure every baby is different - just my experience I'm sure you can make the Christmas outfit work. I just found it wasn't worth the struggle for everyday clothes.

@snowjewelz: congratulations about the weight! You must be so relieved. Great job mama

R had a weight check this morning and at 6 days old he is 5 lb 5 oz just an ounce away from his birth weight! When we left the hospital Thursday he was down to 5 even so I was really hoping he would be at least that. Also because I thought he had been nursing well and had been having great output We hadn't been supplementing and I was hoping my instincts weren't dead wrong. And I took both kids alone and was actually on time. Today is a win.
I'm pretty tired as well but I think I need I start going to bed earlier. The problem is that our older doesn't go to bed til 8 and by the time I get myself organized and then get ready and make sure we nurse well before bed it's 10. And the older gets up at 7. Missing that sleep in time.

@snowjewelz: Good job on the weight gain. The over the head onesies aren't horrible. I just try to be quick about it. K doesn't really like having her clothes messed with in any fashion. So she cries at every diaper and clothing change.
pomelo / 5298 posts
@winniebee: You are having a winning day! Way to go. Sleep is so hard especially when you have two and fly solo as much as you do during the day with both.
pomelo / 5298 posts
Sleep was pretty pathetic last night. K was gassy and fussy. She slept on me for part of the night and in our bed the rest of the night. Her sleep felt like 20 minutes of rest followed by a cry fest pattern all night long.
DH was less than pleased as he was getting ready for work this morning. I feel for him but I can't really help the situation unless I move to her room and take up sleeping in the rocker.
And her perfect baby skin is quickly getting replaced with baby acne. Bummer. I wonder if this is partially due to my switch to formula. Oh well, I still love her, acne and screaming fits included.
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@snowjewelz: that's awesome!! I just do the over the head onesies. He screams but he hates all clothing and diaper changes anyways.
pomelo / 5660 posts
@winniebee: that's great news! I am in awe of you taking two to the doctor.

@MamaG: ugh sounds like a bad bad night. Can your husband sleep on the couch or something on bad nights?
pomelo / 5660 posts
@snowjewelz: I just stretch out the neck hole and put her head through as fast as I can.. She doesn't really care but she's used to it.. I dressing my little girl!!
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@KayKay: where did u order it from? I was looking on amazon and the car seat adapter looks like it's sold separately.
pomelo / 5660 posts
@MamaG: sorry you had rough night. Is your DH a light sleeper? Maybe until things calm down he can stay in guest room?
pomelo / 5298 posts
@winniebee: In theory, yes. He has sleep apnea and sleeps with a cpap, so its slightly more challenging. Its probably easier for me to sleep elsewhere.
I really just wish we could get K into a more traditional sleeping environment. The struggle for me has that I really don't want her to cry much. My current fear is that she wakes up big sister and I can't deal with our whole house being awake in the middle of the night. All of our bedrooms are upstairs and very close to each other. My fear is slightly irrational though in that big sister hasn't woken yet.
pomelo / 5298 posts
@BandDmommy: He's actually a fairly heavy sleeper. K is just a screamer. And unfortunately, he's better at soothing her when she's really gassy. I keep telling him that this too shall pass and soon enough we will both be at work and sleep deprived. I'm trying to keep up with most everything around the house so he doesn't really have much to do when he's here. It's all part of the newborn fun.
pear / 1961 posts
@winniebee: we got it from amazon to take advantage of the registry discount. car seat adapter is included!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@snowjewelz: We pretty much keep Logan in pjs. I put him in a onesie once for his 0 month photo, but that's it. But yeah, they go over the head and babies don't usually like it!
Awesome job on the weight gain!!! Does that mean her jaundice levels are back within normal and you don't have to feed her as often??
@winniebee: Awesome weight gain!!! Glad it went well and your instincts were right! I totally hear you on bedtime. Xander's in bed by 7:30, which is probably when I should just go to bed, but it's been harder and harder to go to bed that early. I've been staying up until 10 or 11 lately and not getting enough sleep!! Luckily I DO get to sleep in if Logan lets me because Hubs gets Xander up and to daycare.
@MamaG: Bummer about the sleep! And sorry about it affecting your husband so much. Mine seems to be able to sleep through all the fussiness in the middle of the night!!! Drives me insane to listen to him snoring away while I'm dealing with a cranky baby. This fussiness period doesn't last forever, so hopefully your husband is understanding.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@Adira: Yea I think her jaundice is gone now since no one mentioned it. Dr also said if nursing isn't horrible we can not do another revision of the tongue tie. But now I don't know when I'll ever end up weaning her off the shield!
nectarine / 2028 posts
@snowjewelz: My son is almost 5 weeks old, and I also was convinced I'd be tied to the shield forever and was sooooo afraid not to use it. I bought 4 of them and scattered them throughout the house so I'd never be without one. All this is to say that at this point I am doing about 60-70% of nursing without it. Sometimes in the middle of the night I use it just because it's easier than getting a sleepy baby to latch, and I also use it when I have a lot of soreness (the last few days my guy has sucked reallllly hard and it hurts!). However, I do see there being a time in the not-too-distant future without it when I was originally convinced it'd never happen! SO-that's a longwinded way of saying I've been there, and I bet you'll be able to wean if you want to!
nectarine / 2028 posts
@MamaG: My son's acne has gotten really bad the last few days, seemingly out of nowhere! Is there anything to do about it, or does it just come and go?
N sleeps in a RNP with the vibration turned on. I am completely afraid of the fact that I'm getting him used to such a sleep aid (vibration), but also know that it's the only way we're getting any sleep so I'm afraid not to use it. Sigh.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@snowjewelz: That's awesome that she's not jaundiced anymore! I hope that means you'll be able to get some longer stretches of sleep now!
Logan is back to eating every two hours (or less) at night. Day two of what is hopefully a growth spurt. I miss the longer stretches of sleep...
pomegranate / 3973 posts
@Adira: Same here! He's been eating every two hours at night, no more 4 hour stretches.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@josina: Ugh! Hopefully they are both just going through a growth spurt and will go back to the longer sleep stretches soon!!

Hi ladies, popping in to say hi and join the early morning "fun." I am up pumping, can't say I missed this part of having a little baby.

@Adira: sorry you aren't getting a lot of sleep! I hope he gives you some longer stretches again soon!
