@snowjewelz: I wouldn't worry too much if you have a few long stretches. She may eat more vigorously if she has a longer stretch or two.

I slept much better. Since it's the weekend I let DH do more of the overnight feeds for K. He's feeling it today. Thankfully C slept until 8:00 this morning too.
I fear my pumping days are dwindling. I'm getting less at each pump and I'm getting sore. I just font have the dedication to pump more to try to increase my supply. I applaud all of you that are making BF work. I wish I had it in me.

@MamaG: don't feel bad! I'm making it day by day so i don't even know how long this will last for.
I decided to hold off pumping and let my supply regulate first. it may seem so dumb but the main reason I don't want to FF is cost. I realize on top of not getting paid out utilities are prob going up since I'm home all day!
pomelo / 5298 posts
@snowjewelz: cost is a huge factor. We are facing double daycare expenses to the tune of about $30k in 2015. Anyway for us the minimize expense is going to be important for us.

@chicalgobee i'm with you on missing those longer stretches of sleep. E will still sleep for 4ish hours IF we are holding her, but she only does 2.5-3 when not snuggled up against a warm body
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@winniebee: So glad to hear you got some sleep last night!!!
@MamaG: Don't feel bad! BF and pumping definitely isn't for everyone. I'm just lucky that it's working out for me, but it doesn't come easy for everyone. HUGS.
@snowjewelz: Wanting to BF for the cost savings is definitely not dumb! That's part of why I want it to work out for us too! Especially now that we're going to have two in daycare, I want to save wherever I can!

@MamaG: Basically the only reasons I'm doing it are 1) my body seems able so far and 2)cost. If my body was struggling (or starts to), I will probably give it up.@snowjewelz: I made my husband high 5 me yesterday for making it through a month of BFing...so much work! @KayKay: Sorry you're struggling with sleep stretches, too . Last night sucked...I was up four times in 4.5 hours.

@MrsF: Ehm yes-boy diaper changes are interesting! The blinds in his room have been sad recipients of a diaper change gone wrong
pear / 1961 posts
@snowjewelz the cost-savings of BF is one of my main reasons for trying it too. that and the convenience, since in theory, milk is always with you and ready to eat! i've had a fairly easy go of it with both kids, but i was definitely of the mindset of "let's give it a shot, and if it doesn't work out for us...for whatever reason...that's ok".
honestly, i almost gave it up in week 2 with DD1 because i was tired of being the only one who could feed her. or even if my husband fed her, i still had to pump. it just seemed unfair and FF seemed much more equitable. i totally didn't expect to feel that way! i was more prepared this time around.
all this to say, just like everything else with babies, you never know what will work for your baby and your family! just need to find a solution that keeps baby fed and the rest of the family sane & happy
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@ChiCalGoBee: I feel the exact same way - if it works so why not and that it's free! You rock for making it past 1 month! And sry about those binds lol!
@KayKay: I know what you mean! I want BF to work out but I def wish I dont have to do all the work!
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@snowjewelz: it's kind of a grass is greener thing! With my son I was so nervous about how much he was getting with BF since he wasn't a long nurser and he was so tiny. I was so envious of those who pumped or formula fed! at 6w I did start exclusively pumping Bc I was so stressed with bf. And hen formula fed from 5m on Bc he had a dairy intolerance. It was the best decision for our family but I always had misgivings about throwing in the towel early. So i am working even harder at it this time and trying my best not to stress. In the end the number one rule is feed the baby. No matter how you get that done you are a good parent!!

It was a bad idea to weigh myself today. Down 8 lbs. Haha 8!!! Granted R was only 5.6 pounds but seriously?! I have 22 to lose. Comical.
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
Oh I also wanted to mention I have a poo every feed kid. Anyone else? It makes nursing sessions so much longer to change them mid poo especially since he is so delicate at 4 days post partum. I forgot how much they poop in the beginning!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@winniebee: Yeah... I feel like I swing back & forth about this all the time. Something will change for sure when I go back to work - either BF/pumping combo works out, or it doesn't and she'll switch to FF by then!
We got a scale just now b/c we want to be able to estimate how much LO is weighing but now I am obsessed with weighing myself too! I keep telling myself my engorged boobs must weigh a lot and contribute to that # on the scale haha!
Yes me too.. She poops as she eats! My record so far is changing her 3 times in a row!
pear / 1961 posts
@winniebee: yes, so much pooping! i usually wait until we are finished feeding to change her, unless i need to use a mid-feed change to wake her up.
and i'm estimating there's at least 15 lbs of milk in my boobs
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@winniebee: Ugh, I'm down 15 lbs and have 30 to go to get to pre-pregnant weight! And I think I'm still gaining...
Logan also poops every single feed! So annoying. I'm guilty of not always changing him right away...
pomelo / 5298 posts
We were at poo every feed but it seems to be tapering off now. I've lost all my weight plus some. I'm ready to purge my closet now. All my maternity wear is being disposed of.
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@KayKay: diaper changes make him sooooooo angry that I have to nurse him after every one anyways. For now!! And yes there's gotta be at least a few lbs in each boob!
@MamaG: lucky!!
@snowjewelz: oh yeah. Last night it was 2 in a row when we were all trying to go to bed. Ugh!
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@Adira: I'm still in eat like a horse mode so I can't be too shocked I'm not bathing suit ready
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@winniebee: haha, I definitely am too! Its hard to adjust your diet! Plus last time, every time I tried to eat better, it would affect my supply, so I'm really scared to change things. But I'm definitely eating too much...
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
On scale I'm down like 15... Then I def think my milk filled boobs add 5 lbs.. Lol. So in my head I'll pretend I'm down 20?! Lol!
Btw.. I don't feel esp revanous even tho I'm bf-ing like mad?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
So I'm nursing Logan and Xande just tried to suck on my chest. Silly toddler!

@Adira: I'm just a super hungry and thirsty bf ER!

Thanks for the well wishes, everyone! C is still sick, but it's still a cold and not an ear infection or bronchitis or anything, so that's good. We had L's 2nd birthday party today. I was up until 2am alternating nursing and baking, but C rewarded my efforts by sleeping straight from then to 7am! Now if only I can go to bed at a regular time and hope she'll repeat it!
grapefruit / 4903 posts
@Adira: L's done that a couple of times now! I laugh it off and remind her she's a big girl and big girls use cups like mama. She seems to be doing it playfully, the same way she climbs into the bouncer and play cries.

So nearly a month into this second time mom gig, I don't think I like my new diaper bag. I got a petunia pickle bottom bag as I always thought I wanted one. Now I really miss my ju ju be bag. I'm really tempted to get a new ju ju be, but I have this brand new petunia pickle bottom bag that I spent too much on to discard after just a month! I should have known better, my ju ju be made it all the way through two years the first go round.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@rattles: Oh wow, I can't believe you threw a birthday party!! You are crazy! But YAY for a good stretch of sleep!!! Sorry to hear C is still sick, but glad it's just a cold and not something more serious.
I think Xander was doing it playfully too, because he just did it for a second and I laughed and told him he was a big boy and then he drank from his sippy cup instead. I think he's just fascinated with what Logan is doing.
@MamaG: Maybe you can try selling the bag on the classifieds or something and then get the diaper bag you want?

Hey ladies, hope everyone is well. Yet again I'm only coming on here sporadically. Never seem to get a chance to come on here.
So I'm really struggling with breastfeeding. It really really hurts and im Beginning to feel really Down about it. I went to a bf support group and she said my latch looked good but gave me tips to help (holding her with opposite arm to boob I'm feeding from, having her much more sideways, as in tummy to tummy and not looking up at me but looking at my breast instead and then waiting for baby to open mouth really wide them push her gently on) she HATES this hold and really resists me pushing her onto nipple which I do gently. Anyway, when I do this it hurts just as much.
I'm not going to give up as I'm determined to bf but it's so tough. Hoping it will get better soon. While chest area is so so sore.
On a positive note, I got 2 pics back from newborn shoot. They are adorable.
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@MamaG: I got the Ju Ju be back pack with some reservations (I'm generally not a pattern bag carrier) and while I haven't left the house yet it seems great.
@Mrs.Lilac: BF is so incredibly hard in the beginning. Last time I cried every day until 6w pp. Have you tried the football hold? I would just you tube video some positions and experiment a little.
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
I can't keep track of diapers and feeds this time. Too hectic with a crazy toddler at home. I know he eats often and pees and poops nearly constantly so I guess that will have to do for now.
apricot / 348 posts
@winniebee: No I havnt tried that. I will give it a go. Have you found it had been much easier this time? I am praying it gets easier soon as it's just so bad right now.
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@Mrs.Lilac: it's with the baby on the side of your body crooked in your arm sitting pretty upright but close to your body (like a running back carrying a football!) So far it's been much easier the second time around. But I'm only 4 days in
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Mrs.Lilac: I'm sorry you're struggling with BFing! It's soooooooo hard in the beginning. Like @winniebee: I probably cried everyday until after 6 weeks because it was such a struggle and hurt every time I had to nurse Xander. And I would see LCs and they'd tell me my latch looked good, but it hurt so much!
I agree with the tummy to tummy position. The way I do it to get the initial latch is hold rest him on the boppy, support his head with my opposite hand (so if he's going to latch on the right boob, I support his head with my left hand) and then use my other hand to cup my breast and squeeze it so that it's shaped better to fit into his mouth. Then I try to tickle his upper lip with my nipple until he opens wide and then I kind of shove him on. Then I often have to squeeze my breast even more to make sure his lips are splayed out instead of pinching. Sometimes I even have to pull on his lower lip to fix it once he's already latched.
I never could figure out football hold because I couldn't see his lips well enough to determine if the latch was good or not. Doing cradle/cross-cradle was the only thing that ever worked for me.
This video (sorry, shows everything) shows basically my technique, although I usually hold my breast closer to the aerola and really squeeze it so that the baby doesn't have to open his mouth as wide to get a deep latch.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
Wanted to add, even when your latch is perfect, it will probably still hurt for a little bit. It takes a while for your nipples to get used to breastfeeding, even when you're doing it perfectly.

@snowjewelz: I'm down 14 lbs.. 10 more to go. And I definetly subtract more for the extra 'boobage'
I haven't been extra hungry either, and have to remind myself to eat/drink more.
@Mrs.Lilac: love the Santa hat, I wish I had gotten a Christmasy photo to use for our card. Just got our DVD of newborn photos today so now busy designing our Xmas card/announcement.
