@BandDmommy: omg so cute! I'm sooo excited for our newborn pics tomorrow!

@MrsScallop: Thank you!
@Adira: I think their post processing is pretty minimal as the photos are available for viewing in about 10 minutes after they take them. They use studio lighting though which I'm sure helps immensely. Fortunately, she's got pretty good skin though.

@snowjewelz: thanks!
@BandDMommy: Thanks and D's photo is adorable. I'm sure you will have many good choices, choosing will be hard.

We had a two week check up this morning. K's weight is up to 8 lb 2 oz and she grew an inch already! I think that's a bit artificial and subject to stretching.
The ped isn't at all worried about her tongue, and thinks it was crazy that the lactation consultant was so concerned with it! He also confirmed that she has blocked tear ducts and showed me how to massage them. Hopefully they clear quickly.
We are in the clear now until her two month check. The ped did also mention that they are starting to see the flu and that it's "bad". That wasn't really news that I wanted to hear.

@MamaG: good news about your appt! Bad news about flu.
What are you guys doing related to staying in? Are you venturing out at all? I have not been taking B to his activities because I don't want him catching a cold. But I know he's getting restless.

@BandDmommy: Gorgeous photo! I had to laugh at your shower question because I didn't shower yesterday and felt super gross after some spit-up incidents that I had to today. Only reason I could is because N treated me to a two-hour nap (rare for him midday!) so I was lucky enough to make it happen. I had to skip eating for the time being though . Now I wont have time to dry my hair...but at least it's clean??@josina: I think it was you that asked about pumping? Since N was in the NICU they had me pumping from day 1 to make sure I had a good supply. At this point I'm pumping once a day and he gets a bottle from his dad about every other day since he luckily isn't having nipple confusion. I pump for 10ish minutes right after he eats.
@adira: how did the visit go?
@MamaG: Ugh-my family visited over Thanksgiving and they all had colds. SO worried about N getting sick...couldn't handle the flu!

Just piping in to say theae are some super cute babies!!
@MamaG: the r and p was a life saver for us. My son hated being on his back and so he slept in it every night until around 4m. It's worth it.

C is still going to school as normal. My DH is sick with some sort if sinus/ head cold. I'm trying to limit Ks exposure to the world. It's hard because we are a family that stays busy.
I'm very nervous for Ks health through this winter. She will start daycare mid January at 8 weeks old.

Oh, and I did shower today, but not yesterday.
Is anyone else still ummm bleeding? I'm over it at two weeks!

@BandDmommy: Gorgeous!!
@MamaG: Studio lighting probably helps! Good call.
@MamaG: Yay for a good appointment and good growth!
@ChiCalGoBee: The visit was good, but I'm not sure it was as thorough as our normal pediatrician would be. Logan is down to 8 lbs 0.5 oz, which is in the normal range for weight loss. Not 10%. And she said he didn't look jaundiced at all, but I'm not sure how well you can tell...
Is there a growth spurt on day 3? Because this kid has been attached to my boobs all day!!!

@MamaG: no bleeding but zero bladder control. Everytime I cough I pee on myself. It's awesome.

Baby's Name: Jack
Birthday: 11/24
Weight: 7lbs 11.5 oz
Length: 19.5 inches
Head Circumference: 35cm
Sorry ladies - I'm in the taking care of a newborn and toddler craziness (as many of us are) and can't keep up with these threads! I'm also having a little trouble with Jack's latch so I'm not even really using my phone while I'm nursing because I'm so terrified of messing it up. Any tips on that?
We're doing pretty well here. I had a lactation appointment today and found out that Jack is two ounces past his birth weight at 8 days old Nursing is obviously going well, which makes me so happy because I had a really hard time BF M, and gave up pretty early on. I'm still having a LOT of pain right when he latches, but the LC thought that his latch was good, and that as long as the pain was only for the initial latch that it was ok. The problem is mostly at night when I'm most engorged, so hopefully as things regulate that will get better. He's doing the newborn thing at night, up every 2 to 3 hours to eat, but we're holding up OK and DH is super helpful so we're getting through it together! Can't wait for song longer stretches of sleep.
Big sister M is handling the transition pretty well. She's not showing any obvious jealousy, but she's definitely very thrown off by the change in routine and having so many people around the house. It makes me cry to think of how much we've rocked her world . I keep trying to remind myself how important my siblings are to me and how much fun she and her brother will have together eventually!

@MamaG: Glad that things are going better for you with feeding!
@BandDmommy: We've been trying to get out when we can while DH is still home to help. When M was a newborn we never went out and I think it contributed to my PPD. Now that we have two I feel like we have to get out of the house or M will go crazy though, so we've been doing a lot of silly errands and things. The past two days were warm enough to go to the park!

@MamaG: Still bleeding here (I'm only 8 days pp). I can't remember how long it lasted last time.
pomegranate / 3973 posts
@ChiCalGoBee: I started pumping today, 6 days after delivery, just after bf-ing. Not getting very much though, barely half an ounce? Is that typical for this early on?
@MamaG: 6 days post and still bleeding, I imagine I will be for awhile though since my tears were so bad. Super sore yet.
pomelo / 5298 posts
I can't remember how long the bleeding lasted previously either. I also wonder if it's longer since I was a c-section. I just know I'm over it. I have my two week follow up with my OB tomorrow, I expect it to go well. I'm down about 30 pounds (yah GD!), very mobile and I think my incision is healing well.
nectarine / 2028 posts
@josina: When I first started pumping I barley got a few drops of colostrum, but by doing it a few times a day (especially after my son ate), it increased how much I got. I am clearly no expert, but I'd say to keep at it a few times a day maybe?
@MamaG: Still bleeding a little bit at 3 weeks out , and I had a c-section. It's very very light and brown at this point though, so hoping it's the light at the end of the tunnel!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@MamaG: I'm bleeding, but only 4 days out. Last time I bled for weeks!! Or at least spotted until close to my 6 week follow up.
@MrsF: The initial pain at latching is normal. You just shouldn't feel much pain after that, though it might still take a couple weeks for your nipples to get used to it!
@josina: I haven't started pumping, but when I did with Xander, I got very little out. I think eventually I got 0.5 oz per side when I would pump after nursing. But when I first started, I only got a few drops!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
How long does this first growth spurt last? My nipples are so are from all the constant feedings. Though he's FINALLY doing longer stretches at night (every 2 hours) so maybe I will at least survive!
pomelo / 5660 posts
@Adira: no idea! We were up feeding pretty much constantly between midnight and 2 am.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@BandDmommy: Ugh, that's brutal. That's like my night before. Last night actually was okay! I even got a 2 hour stretch of sleep myself!! But now it looks like we're back to constant feedings...
pomelo / 5660 posts
@Adira: it was rough, BUt then she slept for 4 hours. So, not terrible.. I don't have high expectations for newborn sleep so little wins make me happy

Happy news, I showered! And made biscuits for Bs breakfast. I'll expect my super mommy award in the mail today. LOL.
How is everyone else doing?
pomegranate / 3973 posts
Ethan seems to be on a good schedule already, eating every 2 to 2-1/2 hours during the day and at night giving me a 5 hour stretch and a 4 hour stretch. Hoping this sticks and that you guys get there also!
Not loving the pumping so far... Seems like so Mich work and uncomfortableness for such little payout. But I know it will come.
Newborn pics today, so excited!
pomelo / 5660 posts
@josina: my little girl is very tiny so it's actually not good for her to go longer than 4 hours. The one disadvantage of not being able to stay pregnant past 37 weeks. Once she gets bigger, she will be able to sleep longer.
pomelo / 5660 posts
@josina: have fun at your pics today! Can't wait to see how they turn out.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@BandDmommy: We're doing okay, but every time I try to put Logan down, he immediately wakes up rooting. I don't know if he's actually hungry or just using me as a pacifier, but I need a break!
@josina: That schedule sounds great!! And yay for newborn pics!! Hope that's fun!
nectarine / 2028 posts
@josina: SO jealous...I can usually get a good 4 hour stretch out of N for the first chunk of the evening (usually 10-2, although last night was 10:15-1:45). However, after that he's up every 2 hours and has a 10-minute "snack" before dozing again. Any advice since you're clearly rocking the sleep category? What does your evening look like if you don't mind me asking?
@Adira: if I'm remembering correctly, the first few days are all about building up that supply (which is why they had me pumping every two hours around the clock since N was in the NICU). Maybe L is just helping build your supply since he doesn't know your milk is already in?! How helpful of him

@BandDmommy: Isn't it amazing how accomplished you feel after a shower?? My husband is home today so I might "live large" and run an errand.

Baby's Name: Lila Elizabeth
Birthday: 20th November
Weight: 6.8
Length: 50cm
Head Circumference: 35cm (I don't do inches!)
Well Lila is 13 days old today and doing really well. We are adapting to our new life and she is a pretty chilled out baby. She was a little jaundice the first week so I fed her every hour which was exhausting. She really struggled to wake up to latch at times so I had to express into a spoon and drop it into her mouth but it must have worked because she put on 3.5 oz in the first 5 days with my obsessive feeding schedule. The midwife told me I was crazy and that I could feed every 3 hours so that has been much easier. She still has issues latching on especially during the middle of the night feeds which can take up to 2 hours. It's so tiring but worth it obviously.
I had to evacuate my house day 6 which was awful. We suddenly needed some damp proofing done and I had to go to my mums without hubby. I really struggled at night as I was by myself and now I really appreciate the fact that hubby takes her for a couple of hours when I go to bed so I can at least get a little sleep!
I had newborn pics done last week so I'm very excited to see them. Until then, check out this cutie!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@ChiCalGoBee: Ahh, that's true about building the supply. I just hope that it only takes a couple days and then he goes back to feeding every two hours instead of this constant thing!!
@Mrs.Lilac: Xander was the same way in the beginning, being jaundiced and so sleepy! It was so hard to feed him! Sounds like you're doing an awesome job though!! Bummer about having to evacuate the house though!! Lila is so cute!!

@BandDmommy: definitely super mom!
I took M to story time at the library, then met DH & baby at the park so M could play and I nursed J in the car. I felt like a rock star M's newborn period was full of tears and PPD and BF nightmares, so I'm really trying to celebrate the small victories here!

@Mrs.Lilac: so glad your feeding schedule is more manageable now! She's a beauty

@MrsF: glad you are feeling better this time! It really helps getting out.
How is everyone feeling recovery wise? I'm a little under 3 weeks post delivery and feeling great. I really want to get back at the gym and resume normal life.
pomegranate / 3973 posts
@ChiCalGoBee: no advice to give, I think I've just lucked out. In the evening he nurses at 7:30/8 and then again around 10:30 so I can be in bed at 11:30 and I don't hear him whimper untill 3:30 or 4. This morning I think he may have gone longer but I woke him up.
The first night home was awful, he wouldnt let me put him down at all and we were told by the Dr. To supplement him after bf-ing... Since then he's been fine and we r no longer supplementing.
@Mrs.Lilac: aww, love her big smile!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@BandDmommy: Definitely not feeling up to too much, but my recovery is definitely easier than it was last time! I don't feel too sore and I've actually been getting stuff done around the house, but doing too much makes me tired!
When does the hormone crash happen? Last time it hit on day 3 before we left the hospital, but this time I'm on day 4 and still feel pretty good.
honeydew / 7283 posts
@Adira: I kept waiting for a major crash this time because last time was so tough, but honestly it never really got bad (I'm day 9). I hope you have a similar experience!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@MrsF: You're giving me hope!!! I hope my experience is similar!!
honeydew / 7283 posts
@Adira: don't get me wrong, I've had my weepy moments - but nothing like I expected.
