@FaithFertility: yup a few days or a week is a phase....a month is "mama we are doing this my wAy!" You must be tired!!
eggplant / 11861 posts
@winniebee: I'm exhausted!
I truly just need like a week off work to buckle down and do some sleep training!
Maybe this Spring break in a few weeks!
So hard!
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@FaithFertility: I hate to say it, but the days I'm home with the boys are more exhausting for me than the days that I work. When I work I have a "break" lol. But maybe do it when your husband is around to help!?

@MamaG: Oh that must have been so hard Glad the appointment is over!
@FaithFertility: She is amazing with her words! Love it! I'm sorry that sleep has been so rough. You must be exhausted!

@winniebee: No I hear ya!!! He works all weekend and between her crap naps and no sleep I am kind of dreading it! He is off for 5 days with us that week so he can DEFINITELY help!
honeydew / 7283 posts
@KayKay: Yeah - it seems pretty common for the second kid to talk later (and VERY true in our house). M does all the talking and J just doesn't get the kind of attention that his big sister did when she was his age!

Question for those experienced with ear infections...when do you treat with antibiotics vs wait-and-see? At her well-check on weds, the ped said E had some swelling/redness/fluid in her ears and gave me an Rx to use if we wanted. No fever, a bit of a cold/congestion, no obvious pain/irritation with her ear when awake or lying down. Only potential symptom is that her sleep has been a little off -- both for naps and night -- but she also is cutting some canines. This morning she was making noise on-and-off from 430-530...around 5 i went and gave her some water and dosed her some ibuprofen.
I'm fine with giving antibiotics if it's an obvious problem/solution, but would prefer to avoid them if not necessary.
What say you, experienced mamas?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@KayKay: We always just give them the antibiotics. At Xander's last well visit, the doctor said she was seeing the beginnings of an ear infection, but it obviously wasn't bothering him. Since he hadn't been on any antibiotics in over a year, we went ahead and started them for this to get rid of it quickly before it became a problem.
I know our pediatricians are pretty aware of how much antibiotics they are given. Logan had three ear infections when he was a baby, one after another after another, so the doctor switched up treatments so he wasn't just getting amoxicillan over and over and over again.

@adira: yeah, it's not like she has had a ton of antibiotics or anything. she got amox back in nov (similar situation...well-check and showed an ear infection), and again 2 weeks ago when she had an ear infection + 105 fever. so it's possible the amox just didn't work a couple weeks ago, and we have an Rx for a different antibiotic this time.

@KayKay: I mean, I'm probably not the best person to ask, but when doctors write me a prescription for the kids, I use it.
pear / 1961 posts
@adira: ha - i know, right? i appreciate that my ped doesn't just hand out Rx willy-nilly, but sometimes i wish she would just be like: give her these drugs. the fact that she asks me if i want the Rx and doesn't seem to push either way makes me hesitate. clearly crowdsourcing is needed
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@KayKay: Well... maybe fill the prescription, but wait and see if your LO becomes fussy/gets a fever/etc.? Then you'll have them on hand to start if you feel she needs them.
pomegranate / 3973 posts
@KayKay: We were never given the option with E's ear infections since when we went in for them he was already fussy/not sleeping well or taking bottles.
I'm not sure what I would do in that instance! If she's not showing any signs that its hurting her I might hold off since it might go away on its own, but then again I wouldn't want her to end up in pain because I waited to long. No help, sorry!

@KayKay: How annoying to be left with the choice! Last time K had it, we had to take it so we didn't think twice!
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@KayKay: our pediatrician is the same way, which i appreciate. we've only ever given T antibiotics if he was miserable. my husband almost always says not to. i would say if it continues to linger, give them.

Ok. Rx at home on the counter, but going to give it a day or two and see if she gets any additional symptoms or seems extra fussy. At least this way I don't have to worry about anything over the weekend
@winniebee: @snowjewelz: I actually appreciate the hesitation to prescribe most of the time. The other times it has been a little more clear cut though (super red and bulging ear drum, high fever). This time is kinda middle of the road with probably no clear cut answer. Like most things with kids, I suppose

@KayKay: Haha, like our "could be ringworm.. But maybe not..." I'm actually pretty convinced that it's not, after pouring through thousands of ringworm photos!

@snowjewelz: Happy 15 months K!
I'm dealing with a fussy, feverish boy that only wants Dada. He is probably coming down with HFM thanks to a playdate he had on Tues.
pomegranate / 3045 posts
@snowjewelz: happy 15 months to K! Can't believe they're already 15 months.
@KayKay: personally, I would probably give it another day or two, also, but it's good you have the rx on-hand!

Hope everyone had a good weekend!
I saw on IG some special lady got to see Nick Carter up close and personal
We're getting into the upper 60's this weekend (after barely hitting 40 yesterday), so I'm excited! Not that I will get to do anything w/ K Hopefully daycare will take them out and my mom will after school!
I don't even have pictures of her anymore b/c I can't get her to pause for even 1 sec to take decent ones!!
pear / 1961 posts
@snowjewelz: it was 55 here yesterday and supposed to be 62 here today. we opened all the windows in the house to (hopefully) get rid of the germs. hopefully we didn't let more in ;P but i'm definitely not packing away my fleece/down/boots yet!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@KayKay: Great idea.. I can't wait to just open up the house to let some fresh air in too! I'm totally not switching any clothing/gear either haha!

eggplant / 11861 posts
@snowjewelz: We did! G was snotty and has a cough but I think it is allergies as our cars are yellow and pollen levels are insane!!!!! So she has been acting just fine! But DH has bronchitis so I pray it isn't that!!!!! He worked all weekend so hasn't been around her!
