@Adira: I put all my stuff in a large duffle.
As for what I wore to the hospital, black yoga pants. I was leaking like mad and I wasn't about to put on anything cute.

@MrsScallop: Hahah I can't believe they had to wake him up! I am glad you got to tour the NICU and they explained all that stuff to you so hopefully it's less frightening!

@MrsScallop: my son was in NICU for 11
Days please let me know if I can help at all
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@MrsScallop: That's so funny they had a way to wake him up like that!! Whenever I've had scans and the baby was asleep, they'd just poke at him with the wand and it wasn't always very effective. Although I haven't had a scan since 20 weeks, so it's probably different when they are bigger.
So scary about the NICU... hopefully he won't have to be there for very long.
@BandDmommy: I think I did a duffle last time too, but then Hubs had to carry everything out of the hospital and it was a pain. I think I want to do a rolling suitcase this time.

I really didn't bring much but if you are a first time mom definitely bring an empty bag for hospital gifts and swag. I got a lot of post partum stuff last time (mesh undies, pads, tucks, sitz bath)
I can't remember what I wore there last time.

@BandDmommy: Thank you! I have been trying to decide if I should pack anything for him while he is in the NICU, but the nurse made it sound like they won't want him covered up or clothed at all for a while, so I am not sure if anything I bring will be useful/necessary. Did you feel like you had a lot of down time while visiting B in the NICU, where you were there but weren't doing anything? If so, what did you do to pass the time/not feel useless?
pomelo / 5660 posts
@MrsScallop: I brought books and read a lot. I also pumped a ton! There was a pumping room and I spent a ton of time in there. I didn't bring clothes for B until the very end. It's almost easier to have them stay in what the hospital provides. Some good ideas for you, would be a large water bottle and snacks.

Can't wait to hear about the new babies
@MrsScallop: ohhh my what a way to wake a babe up...lol
Hope all goes well and LO is out of NICU before you know it!

@josina: ahhhhh exciting!!!!!!!
Had my first cervical check today that hurt...lol but nothing going on yet...lol
I measured at 37 1/2 weeks sooo looks like babe had a big growth spurt that week I measured 2 weeks ahead now I'm. Only really 1 :).she felt around and thinks she is about 7 lbs
I am getting so excited to meet her!!!!! :))

@josina: How exciting!
I had a growth U/S today & he's about 6lbs 13ozs, 49th percentile & measuring about 36w5d (I'm 37w4d). I'm 50% effaced & a fingertip dilated. My BP decided to be high all 3 times they took it, so I get to do the fun 24hr urine catch starting in the am. Yippee! I have no other pre-e signs though so hopefully he can cook a little longer (I want him to wait so my mom can drive out for his birth - she leaves next week)

@josina: How exciting!!!
@FaithFertility: I think someone mentioned that the cervical checks will hurt if you're not dilated/effaced or something. Sorry!
@AngelicOne: I'm jealous of all the growth ultrasounds people have had! I want one, haha. Bummer about your BP being high. Hopefully it's just a fluke and everything is fine.

@Adira: well that makes sense.....lol She asked if I wanted one and my face must have got white, because she said are you scared?...lol She is my fav MW so she said well let's jump that hurdle together........kind...but ouch
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@FaithFertility: hahahaha. That's funny, but she sounds sweet. Mine asked me if I wanted one and I said "I don't know... I heard they can hurt" and then she said something like "Well, since you're not having any contractions or other symptoms of labor, there's really no need to do it. But some women like knowing if they are dilated or not!" So I skipped it.

For me, the cervical check got worse once my water broke. I need to write up my birth story. Excited for you all to meet your babes!!!!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@BandDmommy: I was meaning to ask you... how'd your water break? What was it like for you? Mine broke last time in the hospital and basically exploded, but I was on the toilet at the time, so it wasn't a huge mess or anything. I'm nervous about it breaking at home!
eggplant / 11861 posts
@Adira: Yeah I didn't have to but I'm glad she did my first, hopefully next week will be better

@Adira: ahhhh I'm. Nervous about it breaking at work infront of 20 1st graders......lol
pomelo / 5660 posts
@Adira: apparently I'm a freak of nature and my water breaks before active labor starts for me. I was in bathroom while LO was showering and was talking with DH and all of a sudden my pants were soaked. DH was like, did you just pee yourself? And I said, no that was my water, I think. Can you smell it? Yes, I made DH smell my pants. No shame here....
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@FaithFertility: So glad I"m not a teacher... hahaha. Hopefully you have some warning before it happens! Or have contractions first and get to the hospital!
@BandDmommy: My mom had her water break first for both her pregnancies too, so I'm extra paranoid about it! I can't imagine it happening the way you describe!!! For me, I had soooooo much pressure, it felt like I had to go to the bathroom, but nothing was coming out. I was at the hospital, so I just was trying to go to the bathroom and I was pushing because it felt like I needed to do a BM, and then there was a POP! And water went everywhere (well, mostly in the toilet, but the floor too) and the pressure was finally gone!

@FaithFertility: Can't say 'why' but my cervical checks haven't hurt at all, of course I've been 3" dilated each time so that could be why as @Adira said...
Really curious to see if I start contractions first, or my water breaks. My OB just said I'm really close so could go anytime. Crazy/Exciting! Of course then I went home and watched a delivery video up-close, yikes, not sure if I'm ready for that part but I'm sure no one is!
My mom said when she had me she was in labor and didn't know it, just noticed blood and went to the dr and was told this was it. I guess I'm just waiting to actually 'feel' something!

@josina: eek! exciting!
I'll have a growth scan on 12-2- doctor said that since I failed my first glucose test it could be a sign that baby is big so he wants me to have the scan just to check
All of this talk about water breaking is making me anxious! My due date isn't until the end of December so I'm not expecting any laboring to be happening anytime soon, but you never know!
pomegranate / 3045 posts
@MrsScallop: I'm glad the scan looked good! I bet it's scary thinking about the NICU, but it's good you got a tour and know sort of what to expect.
@josina: So exciting!
@AngelicOne: Ugh, sorry about the high bp and having to do the urine catch. Hopefully everything checks out fine!
@Adira: @FaithFertility: Yep, I have started wearing a massive pad in the morning because I'm terrified my water will break on the metro Haha. Unlikely, I know, but still.
@BandDmommy: Ha oh man! My mom's water broke first with her labors as well, which is why I'm a little paranoid about it.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@josina: Nice!! Excited for you!
@FaithFertility: Really? Eek! I hope it won't hurt too much when I have to get it... I'm not gonna get it if I can help it then lol. And I think your kids will just laugh and tell the whole world their teacher peed her pants, lol!
@AngelicOne: Hopefully you will stay put for another week!
pomegranate / 3973 posts
I'm thinking this might be the last 'week' photo I take... 38 weeks with a 'peak' of the nursery behind... I'll post another pic on the nursery board.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@josina: Eeeeeh, so exciting and so close!!! Scary about your mom though just because you might go into labor the same way and not even realize it's happening! Hope that's not the case!
@whenoceansrise: Hopefully you'll go closer to your due date and not too early!
@theotherstark: It's funny, the day I went into labor last time around was the same day that I put a garbage bag and a towel in my car, just in case! Luckily my water broke at the hospital, so it didn't matter, but I'm scared it'll break at work or in the car or on my sofa!! I should really put the waterproof mattress protector back on my bed...
@josina: You look amazing!!!
eggplant / 11861 posts
@snowjewelz: I'm sure you won't have to....she just saw how nervous I got when she asked so since I really like her she said let's just get tje first one over with......so in my head I'm hoping that was the worst......lol
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@FaithFertility: And also, compared with labor, I'm sure it's nothing!
I just realized I'm full term @ 37 weeks now! I'd reaaally love for her to come out in 2 weeks!
pomegranate / 3045 posts
@josina: You look so great!! And I love that mobile you made. TOO cute!
@Adira: Yeah, I told my husband that I wanted to buy some of those old people diapers just in case, and I was only semi-joking... Ha. I don't know why, but it makes me nervous! I know it's rare for women's water to randomly break, though.
@snowjewelz: Yay for 37 weeks!! I'm 38 weeks tomorrow, which is craaazy to me!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@theotherstark: Getting close!!
I keep wondering when I should start putting those big pads on the bed to sleep on. I call them wee wee pads b/c we already have them for my dog!

@josina: pretty! Sounds like you're getting close!

@MrsScallop: So glad baby looked good on ultrasound and NST! I'm sure it's scary to think about being in the NICU, but glad that you were able to see it and learn a little. Hopefully it's a short stay!
@AngelicOne: Sorry about your BP! Hopefully it was just a off-day. 24 hour urines are such a pain too I've had to do way too many between the two pregnancies! Hope the results are good.
@josina: Both you and the nursery look great!
@snowjewelz: congrats on being full term!

Just got back from my OB appointment. Things look good with baby and stable from a BP / pre-e standpoint. She scheduled an induction for 39 weeks (monday - 11/24!). So hard to believe that this belly bump is going to turn into an actual baby soon . I'm definitely anxious and super emotional about my last few days with my only child, but excited too!
The only bummer is that my OB wasn't comfortable going 5 days without an NST, so I have to go back on Friday for another one. It's an hour drive each way and it'll be my third time this week, so I was hoping to avoid it but obviously I'm happy that we're being watched closely.
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@MrsScallop: I'm glad you had a good appt - I'm sure that what's to come is very nerve-wracking. I hope it all goes smoothly and your little guy needs very little NICU time.
