Just curious cause at my last job 3 of 4 people who had babies while I was there had to go on bed rest weeks before due date. Wondering how common it really is to be able to keep working up until the day you go into labor!

With my DDs I actually worked 10+ hour shifts on the day I had them.
With this baby I am trying to, but it is getting tough. I work 12 hour night shifts as a nurse and it is really hard on my body. the day after I work I am so sore I can hardly move. Luckily I only work part time and only have 5 days left scheuled until my due date.

Im due on a Wednesday so I may take Monday and Tuesday off before, if I think I'm getting close (like if I was dilated at my last OB appointment or something like that). But I'm going to try very hard to work til close to my due date.

I took off 10 days before my due date--I was plain uncomfortable and thought I deserved a little "me" time before the baby arrived.

I was scheduled for an induction on a Monday (the day after my due date) and I planned to work that morning! I ended up going into labor Sunday night.

I took four weeks off which turned into five because I went nine days over. I am in New Zealand though so our maternity leave legislation is pretty generous.
I'm seriously in awe of those who work up to their due dates, I was so ready to start my leave when I did and I think my midwife would probably have put me on bed rest anyway due to some complications that actually resolved themselves once I finished work.

I didn't. I took a month off before my due date because I was sick of commuting 3 hours a day. I plan to work up to my due date for this pregnancy because now I mostly work from home.

I planned to take 3 weeks of before my due date, but work had an emergency, so I helped for 2 more weeks (a mix of on-site and from home). I decided to stop working at 39 weeks, but my water broke my last day of working from home.

I worked until 39 weeks and delivered at 40 weeks 4 days. I liked having a bit if the me time beforehand

Pretty much. I left 2 days before I was scheduled to stop working (the Friday before my due date) because my blood pressure went up so I needed to relax at home.

My last day at work was the day after I was due. I was supposed to get induced that evening after work but they had so many natural labors that day (we have a small hospital) that they rescheduled me for the next day, so technically I had two days off, I guess?

My technical due date was on Monday and I just got home from work. I'll work until I can't handle the contractions. Sitting around waiting for labor to start would drive me NUTS!

I worked all day before I went into labor at 10 pm. I wanted to save all my PTO to use during my leave since we don't have STD at my job.

I don't know how long I'll go but my company policy is for you to stop 2 weeks before your due date, so that would be my plan. Everyone complains about it eating into their leave at first, then as they get close to leaving, they are really happy to be going early.

Yes, but my water broke 6 weeks early. My water broke as I was getting ready for work.

I worked until I was 38 weeks, because we were moving and I wanted me time before the baby. Little did I know I'd be nearly 2 weeks late, and all that me time drove me crazy, hanging out feeling every single BH contraction and waiting anxiously for the baby - I think work would have been a nice distraction!

I worked until my due date and told my boss that morning if she didn't have a project for me I was leaving! I was so crabby and all caught up since I was just counting down! I was due on a Thursday, took vacation that Friday and ended up having my LO on Saturday! I think they were ready for me to be gone too!

I'm at 36 1/2 weeks and have had my work duties adjusted some. I am not working any counter shifts, just working on special projects and running errands for the other managers, things like trying to get a timeclock fixed, running to the bank, etc. I'll work at least a few days next week, and may put in a few more in the week after that if I feel like it. Otherwise, I'll finish up by next week.

@Mrs. Fix: ha, ha, I remember that feeling, I was extremely grumpy too!
My boss was fine having me work from home the whole time, but her boss wanted me to come in every other day. Driving was what made me decide to stop working, it got too uncomfortable.
So much for taking time off before hand, but the waiting for him to arrive drove me insane. I would have paced the house miserable just waiting and waiting.

I went into labor with both of my kids at work a week before my due date.

I stopped at the beginning of my third trimester. I was a lifeguard and physically could not do my job. Also I knew I was taking my maternity (Canada, so a year at 55%) and not going back, so it wasn't a big deal to start early.

I had a scheduled c section at 39 weeks, and worked until the day before. People kept asking why I was at work and that I should just take the day off, but I just could not sit at home and be nervous all day about the surgery alone.

I planned to work until I went into labor, even if I went overdue. My son arrived almost 2 weeks earlier than planned.

My office is closed for the week of Christmas and New Years and opens on January 2nd, I'm due the 5th there's no way I'm going in for three days. If I were due at another time I'd probably work until I'm due.

Sort of. I had pregnancy complications and was put on bedrest at 30 weeks....so I worked from home until I was 37 weeks and then went back to work for a week before giving birth.

I plan on it to save all my PTO days for post-baby. I'll request to work from home the last month or at least couple of weeks prior to birth should I get uncomfortable walking/riding public transportation and sitting at work.

Yup! I planned to work until I went into labor. My due date was on a Saturday, I worked that Friday and I went into labor the day after so I didn't have to work past my due date! Woohoo!

I plan on it! I'm going to work from home the week before and I'm only taking off 2 days prior (I'm having a scheduled c-section though)

I planned to work until I went into labor; but my OB said I had to stop working full time at 38 weeks because of swelling and my blood pressure. A few days I think is perfect; 2+ weeks was way too much time to not be doing something all day long.

I tried! I went to my OB appointment on a Tuesday morning before work an my BP skyrocketed so I had to go to the hospital. I never made it back to work and was induced the next day!

I planned to....
I last worked July 20th......had LO October 20th.
Insane how that happened.....and not back until next October....I miss work....a little already!

I'm starting my maternity leave 3 weeks before my due date because its right before christmas and my office slows down a lot during January so it makes more sense for me to be out and enjoying my last couple weeks.

I worked passed my due date because Li'l Miss decided to come 5 days late.

I worked until 40 weeks 5 days. I would have preferred not to but I would have had to take unpaid leave for any days before the baby came and I didn't want to do that if I didn't have to.

@Beebug: I don't think I would ever start to miss work! Sleep maybe and breaks from baby, but not work
pomegranate / 3438 posts
I was going to take off two weeks before my due date but my dr ended up pulling me out of work a week earlier because of my blood pressure. Its a good thing he did, I ended up having LO two weeks early! It was really nice to have time before he got here to finish the nursery up and just get some me time. But I think if I had more than a week or two off I would have gone crazy.

I went part time at 37 weeks. It was great and I'm so glad I did that. I was done working on the Wednesday before thanksgiving since my due date was Sunday and we had a 4 day weekend anyway. I had LO on her due date.
