@JessLC: so glad to hear you're home safe and sound! thanks for the wonderful birth story!!

@chelsearose: ahhh so close, thinking of you!! prayers for a swift L&D!

Just got back from my 37.5 week check-up, he did a cervical check and I am 1 cm dialated, 100% effaced (cervix was thinning and LO was engaged at last cerv check two weeks ago).

He said the "could be any day," but i'm still telling myself i have at least two more weeks to go and don't plan on getting a cervical check next week~

He did let me know that we'd start doing membrane sweeps etc at 39 weeks, and that he won't allow me to go past 41 weeks, which means less than 3 weeks 'til LO is here in one way or another! AHHHHH~!

  11. DillonLion

    GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts

@mrsjyw: Ah!! So exciting. My doc won't do any checks whatsoever until 39 weeks...so I am just in ignorant bliss over here having no idea where we are at.

  12. lindseykaye

    pear / 1992 posts

@highwire - I waffle between ignorant bliss and ignorant torture

Is anyone else feeling completely useless at work? I know I still have things I could do before I take my leave but they're such small tasks. And I keep going back and forth between finishing up everything possible at the end of every day and leaving something to do or else I will be completely bored tomorrow...
I haven't trolled on baby websites so much since I was first pregnant and couldn't think about anything else! Now I'm so close to the end that I feel almost the same way - completely distracted.

  13. DillonLion

    GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts

@lindseykaye: Yes on the work thing. I'm trying to be as productive as I can, but it is challenging, and I don't want to run out of work either!

  14. travelgirl1

    cantaloupe / 6630 posts

@mrsjyw: Wow, that's good progress! Getting closer!

@highwire: I haven't had any cervical checks either - guess they won't bother with me unless baby turns

@lindseykaye: I definitely feel like I need to slow down.. it's my last week at work this week but I have freelance articles to write too, so just can't slow down at all.

So this time next week - unless baby turns - I'll just be going into theatre for my c section!!!!!! So excited!

@lindseykaye: I WISH I could check out at work. I'm in a very client driven environment so there are new issues coming up every day. And I'm trying SO hard to stay on top of things because I'll be embarrassed if I leave and there is a ton of stuff pending.

It's really hard for me to decide how much to share with the person backing me up while I'm out on maternity leave. I'm still 3.5 weeks from my due date so I don't want to bother her with items that are likely to be resolved before I go. But at the same time now that I'm off the meds that stop my contractions it could be go time at any moment and I don't want to leave her high and dry with no clue what's going on! Thankfully she is also a super close friend of mine so I won't mind if I have to do a conference call with her soon after the baby to update her on the status of everything.

@highwire: i wasn't expecing it today, but the nurse asked if i wanted one, so of course i said yes i'm going to skip it next week at 38, then get it at week 39, since that's when he'll do a membrane sweep anyway!

@lindsaykaye: i started working from home monday and while it's nice to be home, i think i'm going to go stir crazy the next few weeks, trying to countdown to baby.

@travelgirl1: ahhh mama, baby will be here next week!!!! yayyy

@mamamoose: my job is around client deadlines too! ugh i got so annoyed today with my bid owners. thankfully my boss hasn't assigned me any new projects hope it slowly winds down in the next two weeks!

I don't know if working half days is better or worse - I don't ever run out of projects, but instead try to cram a full day of work into four hours. I come home, eat, nap, and then usually do more work. I guess I'm happy to be busy as my mind can't obsess over the enormity of what's about to happen if I have tons of work to do.

@chelsearose eep, exciting! positive thoughts coming your way for a successful (early) induction!

@mrsjyw exciting! and in response to your other thread, my OB said cramping & bleeding was normal after a check (and I had both after my 1st check).

How open are you ladies about sharing your due date? I have been intentionally shady because I don't want to be harassed when my due date rolls around with people asking about where the baby is. I obviously have no idea when the baby is going to arrive. Babies almost never come on their due date anyway, so I don't even want to stick a date in people's heads. We should just have due months, and not due dates, IMO.

  20. immabeetoo

    honeydew / 7687 posts

@highwire I've shared the due date, mostly because it's the day before my birthday - so it sort of rolled all out in one. I haven't shared the name as freely - I honestly find it strange when random people say "oh have you picked a name!". I wouldn't ever ask a stranger that I guess. So I just fib and say we're waiting until he's born.

With that said, I'm pretty comfortable being blunt and telling people to not remind me or bug me about the fact that I'm overdue if, omgno, I am.

    cantaloupe / 6630 posts

@highwire: This is a huge bone of contention in my family right now. Because we live overseas, we haven't given them the date of my c section, just told them it's next week. My sisters and mum are really offended but because of the time difference, they'd be up half the night worrying and I really don't want texts every two minutes asking if we've had it yet. Also, we said that we're not announcing until we've been through recovery and are back on the ward so that we can have that time together as a family, instead of DH having to nip off somewhere to find signal. That went down like a lead balloon too. Maybe we're being mean, but I don't think we are really.

So, today I found a way to scare everyone without having to dress up at all - tell them you're due on Monday! Terror everywhere I go, lol!

@scg00387: Same on the name question! I just say we have to see what she looks like. And then people go "Oh that's a smart thing to tell people. You don't want to get any bad reactions" as if they assume I am 100% lying to their face. No, but you hit the nail on the head, I don't want to tell you the name and then hear your opinion on it at all.

@travelgirl1: Ugh sorry about their reactions! What a pain in the ass. I don't think you are being mean at all.

I was downstairs at the cafe in my office building this morning, and the cashier reached her hand out across the bar signaling that she wanted to touch my belly and I had to like step forward and stick it out so she could rub it. That was absolutely bizarre. And then she asked how old my husband was. WTF?

  23. MamaMoose

    GOLD / squash / 13464 posts

@highwire: I just tell people I'm due "around" Thanksgiving. I'm not specific.

  24. DillonLion

    GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts

@MamaMoose: That's what I usually say. But people push me and are like "No. What is the DATE that you are DUE"

  25. MamaMoose

    GOLD / squash / 13464 posts

Is anyone else barely able to eat!? I'm starving all the time yet anything more than three bites of food makes me feel like my stomach is expanding into my throat. It's so painful and uncomfortable!! I dont get any actual heartburn but the indigestion is killing me.

  26. MamaMoose

    GOLD / squash / 13464 posts

@highwire: yeah I've had a couple of those people too. At that point I just tell them. But I'm in a different situation since my doc and I expect me to go early.

  27. DillonLion

    GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts

@MamaMoose: I was thinking about this topic as well. Unfortunately, I cannot commiserate. My appetite has been the highest it has been all pregnancy the last week or two, and I still have plenty of room to eat everything in sight, which is no good! I'm hoping I run out of room ASAP.

  28. Mrs. Tricycle

    blogger / pear / 1964 posts

@scg00387: I go back and forth about sharing names - it's a set-up for a potential awkward conversation when they give feedback. I'll tell close friends, but others I'll just say "we're working on it."

  29. Mrs. Tricycle

    blogger / pear / 1964 posts

@highwire: ha! Me too. I am eating smaller meals, but snacking almost constantly. I think I've got some kind of baby part lodged in my ribs, which does make eating more difficult, but I've adjusted.

  30. MamaMoose

    GOLD / squash / 13464 posts

@Mrs. Tricycle: @highwire: So jealous of you two. I've still only gained 17lbs and LO is measuring a little small so I really WANT to pack in the calories and I just can't without feeling like I'm choking to death!! I'm going to bring it up to the doc on Monday but I don't think there is really much they can do for me other than tell me to take tums (which really does very little for me)

  31. immabeetoo

    honeydew / 7687 posts

@highwire LOL I know, I think the same thing. I have not had anyone try to touch my stomach, I must give off a 'dont touch me' vibe, what a nut that cashier sounds like!

@mrstricycle We were only telling parents.. but then my Mom didn't get that memo and told other family members. So then I told close friends. But anyone else gets the fib If I were more daring, I'd start answering "Why yes, we are naming him Rainbow Sprinklepants" or something silly

@mamamoose I know my sister had the same problem and her OB had her drinking carnation instant breakfast for extra calories ?? I have been very lucky in that I'm carrying so low and far out my stomach isn't really affected so no heartburn or indigestion. But the stretchmarks and insane back pain are the trade off

@MamaMoose: Oh my gosh, I wish! I'm starving ALL the time, I even have to eat something quickly between getting out of bed and into the shower. Baby girl likes her food!

@MamaMoose: My little sis measured small her whole pregnancy but baby was actually 8lb 9oz when she was born - despite always undermeasuring! I'm on the opposite side of the scale - I think I've put on almost 50lb, eek!

@clery: So happy for you about finishing work! I finish tomorrow, yeah!

    @kml636: happy baby month!!!!
@highwire: i've just been saying the date because for the most part (working remote) i don't have to deal with the labor questions in person. everyone's expecting me to go early though, so we'll see how i get annoyed the last week before and after my due date!
@MamaMoose: i can't eat because my stomach is like a quarter of its regular size! heartburn is give or take any day, but i'm seriously mentally STARVING all the time; and physically unable to hold food in!
@clery: hoooray for last day of work!
@scg00387: ty! the cramping finally subsided~ but now it's constant bh contractions!!! JOY!

  38. lindseykaye

Gah Happy Baby Month to everyone too!! Can't believe it's already here!

@highwire - I've been telling people the date because it's been so hard to dodge! But I am not even due yet and already getting the "you haven't had that baby?/when are you having that baby?" comments. I try to laugh it off and just tell them I am fully expecting her to come late (which I totally am). Even in our meetings at work when the lab manager reminds people to finish up projects with me I remind them I might be around longer than they think so don't get too excited that I will stop bothering them about stuff

And we've been really good about keeping her name a secret except for telling our closest friends (who all LOVE it). I just feel like family feels more comfortable expressing their potentially negative opinions. And if we for some reason change our minds last minute, I don't want everyone to have been set on something for so long.

@MamaMoose - I am the opposite, too. Had breakfast this morning and I'm already hungry again. I feel like I could eat all the time, and I've gained about 40 lbs (or more, I'll find out today but the gain has NOT slowed despite my hopes). I'm trying to make smart choices so that she doesn't get too big but it's so hard here at the end when I want to say screw it and just eat what I want finally.

@clery - congrats about finishing up at work! I plan on working until she arrives but every day it's more and more tempting to make Monday (my due date) my last day.
