I just got back into the groove last week at 24 weeks, hope to keep up w swimming/cardio until the end.

I was at the gym two days before my scheduled c-section. I definitely had to do lighter workouts toward the end (eliptical, light weights) and I cut out high intensity interval classes at about 10 weeks (too dizzy), but I did spinning classes pretty regularly until 30 weeks.
Post baby, I'm lucky if I get to the gym twice a week

I did kickboxing before/at the beginning of pregnancy (just cardio kickboxing, no actual kicking people!) and it got to the point where it pulled on my lower belly too much, probably around 20 weeks? I switched to workouts that worked individual muscles more, instead of full-body workouts, and moved to the elliptical for the cardio aspect.

I was told to stop CrossFit at the end of my second tri, so I started going to a regular gym to go on the treadmill and to do light weights. Then when they found around 35w that I had a short cervix, I was told to stop working out altogether.

I'm 39 weeks and just did barre on Saturday. I had done it pre-pregnancy for about a year so have been able to continue without a lot of issues - just need to modify a few moves and I skip the ab work on the floor at the end of class. I am hoping to go into labor this week, but if I don't, I might squeeze in one last work-out. It's tough, but remembering how awful it felt to be out of shape after having my first is what keeps me motivated to keep going.

I worked out till the end. I had to quit running in my second trimeater due to pelvic pain though. I did lots of elliptical, bike and hikes.

With DD I walked on a treadmill until I was about 38 weeks. With my last pregnancy, I was doing Baby Bootcamp and I worked out until I was 36 weeks. I quit because a stomach virus was going around Bootcamp and then my husband broke his leg, but I was slowing down by 36 weeks for sure. (I also have gigantic babies, DD was 9lbs 6oz and DS #2 was 9 lbs 3 oz, so that made things more difficult as well!)

I'm 38 weeks and haven't stopped! I did stop running very early on because it caused more intense round ligament pain (the running plus pushing the stroller was apparently too much). I'm very tired these days so I do mostly yoga and due to my belly size some poses that are "good" for pregnancy still need some modification or I can't get into them as gracefully as before lol

I'm still riding my bike at 26 weeks. I've just noticed a big drop in my lung capacity, so I won't be able to ride as far going forward. I'm hoping to keep riding short distances until the end.

#1: did CF until week 38. Had modifications as I got too big to clean stuff off the ground. Went lighter on weights, less large movements, etc. Less running.
#2: Had left CF after first tri due to a new job in a new area, then developed some sciatic pain issues that kept me from working out. I took barre classes when I could and am working out about 2x/week right now when my back lets me, sometimes 3x....all weights, with about 15-20 min on a recumbent bike or elliptical afterwards. Upper body one day, lower body another. I'd like to go until delivery. I'm not uncomfortable necessarily, but if my back is pinching, working out only hurts it and inflames those discs more, so I've had days where i planned to go, then decided i really couldn't.
Le sigh.

With #1 I worked out until the day before I went into labor.
With #2...I think I"ve been to the gym like 5 times? But that's due to lack of time/motivation rather than not feeling up to it.

I ran until 9 weeks (puke-vile), and then did prenatal yoga until the end.

I stopped the night my water broke I amped my yoga up in the last two weeks just because my hips were tight.
@littlejoy: I had the same experience with running

I jazzercised up to the day my water broke - I made the modifications I needed (not lying on my back), low impact instead of high impact but kept with it. I stopped running early in my second trimester but continued with walks throughout the pregnancy.

I switched from regular workouts to a prenatal Pilates workout sometime during the first trimester and kept doing it up to delivery, with some pauses when I was feeling miserable. I did tone it down a lot toward the end, and replaced some workouts with not-so-long walks, once it was at the point where everything was exhausting.

I'm still going to a prenatal yoga class at 39w. I also just got a free one week trial gym membership so I can go swimming. And so I can figure out if I'd want a real membership there post baby.

@PawPrints: Which pilates DVD? To be honest, I have one sitting on my bookshelf still in shrinkwrap...
pomegranate / 3658 posts
@simplyfelicity: It's a YouTube workout. I like it because it's divided into a bunch of ten-minute mini-workouts so you can mix and match based on what you feel up to that day / what you feel like you need to focus on.

@PawPrints: Haha, that's the one I have! And I accidentally ordered two off amazon...I meant to get started after first trimester yuckiness but it didn't happen. I guess better late than never!

I have a stairmaster (cardio machine) at home and used it somewhat regularly all the way through my second trimester. Though I had to start lowering the intensity level as time went on as I couldn't keep up. Then in my third tri I stopped it altogether but that also coincided with getting a full time job so I'm not sure if I would have worked out more if i stayed part time. So third tri my exercise was reduced a few evening walks/week with DH at a slow pace...I also did prenatal yoga pretty regularly in my third tri

Up till my water broke. I was down to just light weights and walking on the treadmill.

So far I am still doing a combination of spin, elliptical, and light weights. I plan on doing those things until I go into labor or it causes too much physical stress, but at just over 31w I'm still feeling good.
pomelo / 5228 posts
I got a cold at around 33w and never got my strength back for the elliptical. After that I did prenatal yoga for a few weeks.

With DS, I danced until 22 weeks, and then mostly walked etc. this time, I've been sporadic at best, but life with a toddler is exhausting

I'm at 31 weeks now and am still playing competitive tennis 2-3 days a week!

@meredithNYC: Also did Barre (Dailey Method) until right before I delivered. Only stopped a week before because I got the flu. I loved it and need to get back into with this pregnancy because I feel like a blob instead of the strong pregnant lady I was last time.

With LO1 I swam 3 times per week until 37 weeks and then just walked a lot after that.
With LO2, I only had time for walking and probably walked at least 2 miles a day until the very end.

@lamariniere: the idea of a swim sounds AMAZING right now at this stage.

Right up until the end with both. I found it really helped with lower back pain and also just made me feel better and helped me sleep. I didn't change the routine but did slow the pace on the cardio machines towards the end.

@birdofafeather: do it! You will feel great once you get into it

with LO #1, i did prenatal yoga and summer sanders' workout up until labor, about a few times a week. this time, i don't think i can do yoga anymore because i've been feeling a lot more pelvic bone strain and yoga seems to aggravate it. trying to make up for it with more cardio, but definitely not working out as much as last time!
pomelo / 5258 posts
With LO1 I did Crossfit mom workouts every other day from 2nd trimezter until my due date. I only stopped when I was in labor. This pregnancy it's been a lot harder to build any workout momentum. I'm mainly walking trying to get 8-10k steps a day but I fall short a lot of days (especially now that we're potty training and homebound).

Both pregnancies, I was way too sick the first trimester into the second trimester to do anything except lay around in misery during my downtime. But with LO #1, once my MS went away at 17 weeks, I started working out (mainly elliptical and some weights, sometimes doing bike or treadmill) and worked out 2-3 times a week until I delivered.
This time, I am still having MS at 22 weeks and I'm starting to think it's never going away. Therefore, I have not been to the gym even once. Even taking my daughter to the park 2 blocks away basically ruins me and I have to sit a lot because I feel ill. FUN

@CakeLady: Out of curiosity, what made you stop spinning? I've been doing it all along but wondering how long to continue!
@meredithNYC: I've been spinning and taking a barre class once a week. I make quite a few modifications but think I could continue until the end!
@Eko: It's the spinning that I'm wondering about! I figure I'll just keep going as long as I can (sorta) keep up?
nectarine / 2148 posts
@LindsayInNY: I definitely keep the resistance lower then I normally do and so far there is one position I can no longer do because my belly gets in the way, but it is easily modifiable. I find it is still really comfortable because I am either sitting or, while out of the seat, the weight is removed from my back. As long as my legs are still strong enough to prevent me from bouncing around, I'm good. I think you'll probably be able to keep up with it for a while!

Still working out this time at 26 weeks. I worked out at the gym up until my due date with #1--zumba, elliptical, treadmill, some weights just to maintain toning. I stopped going to kickboxing early on and stopped increasing the weights. I felt great!
This time I am working out with dvds/you tube at home about three times a week. I have been less consistent this time but am still trying. Right now I am doing denise austin prenatal cardio and toning, plus hikes and walks on the weekends.
pear / 1657 posts
@LindsayInNY: I stopped spinning because my belly started getting in the way and with the extra weight the bike seat was putting too much pressure on my ladybits. It was somewhere between 30-32 weeks when it just got too uncomfortable.
