@oliviaoblivia: tie a knot in his weiner? I'm not sure how to react to that one.
@BandDmommy: congrats! I hope once the shock has worn off, there can be lots of celebrating.

Only Dh and I know just how "unplanned" this was (we knew we had a pull out fail, I thought it was at the end of my fertile window though I wasn't really tracking, so I took a test two weeks later). My sister and one friend know it was a real surprise, but I don't share that info with that many people.
Dh and I took a while. We were only a few months off from TTC anyway, but it was still a shock. everyone else was really happy, but they will be almost 2.5 years apart, and people knew we wanted two, so it's not that big of a surprise. And lots of our friends are pregnant again with similar gaps, and I assume most of them are on purpose. So really it was only tough for Dh and me.

Our kids are far enough apart that no one thinks this pregnancy was a surprise to us. Or at least if they do they haven't told me.
ETA: it took my husband a couple days to actually believe it. But he was never unhappy, just in disbelief.

Mine was a complete surprise. Both my fiancée and I were totally shocked. We weren't trying and we were just starting to talk about planning a wedding in a year. I cried for a week straight. My parents were totally thrilled right off the bat and then when we eventually told his side of the family they were excited too. It took a few weeks for my fiancée to come out of shock and fear and get excited. Our little guy will be here in 4 weeks and we both couldn't be more excited and happy. Also, it's such a blessing our son will be at our wedding in December as well. also I was on birth control and got really sick and took two different antibiotics... the rest is history. Congrats to you mama!

We didn't have one but I do think it was a surprise to a few other people... Everyone was still happy, or at the very least neutral. I don't see why anyone should (negatively) care unless they're babysitting or were financially supporting you (just a general you) or something!

@Mrs.Someone: According to PP pullout is 97% effective when used correctly, better than condoms and some bcp's. We used it with 100% success for 8 years, then got pregnant on our first time trying more than once. I would never recommend it to a couple where the man doesn't have excellent self-control, but it IS a valid, effective method of preventing pregnancy. And pre-cum only contains sperm if he's previously ejaculated and hasn't gone to the bathroom, according to multiple studies.
