Anyone else have some summer travel plans?

@DesertDreams88: We're headed to Knoxville/Smokey Mts/Asheville for a week in July. We just took a weekend trip to the beach and have one to New Braunfels planned in a few weeks to test out having both LOs sleeping in the same room. It wasn't too bad, though LO2 did wake up LO1 once or twice.
How are all the LOs? LO2 has started "talking" a lot lately and he absolutely loves to watch his big sister to stuff. He just lights up and starts laughing when she plays with him. It's so cute.
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@mrs.shinerbock: yes L is talking a TON now. And this funny screeching noise. It's hilarious. He is doing well combo feeding now and seems happier at school since we figured out his food issues (he's mspi, poor guy). He's huge. 19lbs already. He's rolling over from back to front only and then gets upset that he can't roll back. That is making fur some annoying wake ups. He can sit pretty well unassisted for a few minutes.
I wish we'd get back to Sttn, but it isn't terrible right now. 2 wake ups usually, I guess. Depends on the night.
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@DesertDreams88: I think your list looks good. We bring a monitor said we can hang out in the living room or porch but it's not entirely necessary.
grapefruit / 4361 posts
@mrs.shinerbock: so adventurous, all those trips! And it must be so nice sometimes to have "big sister" be able to play with the baby, that way it's not all on you / DH.
@travellingbee: DH sometimes says DS sounds like a squeaky toy, I imagine they're making similar sounds Has the daytime formula eliminated at least the blood in the stools? I hear you on the sleep.... some night it's 2, but then we'll have a night or two of 4-5 wakings and I am just not cool with that because he's not waking out of hunger most of the time. It's just the easiest way to get him back asleep. He feeds for 5-10 minutes and falls right back asleep, and I'm too tired to try to get him to eat more to last longer.....
Where are all the LOs sleeping? We're about to move from the RnP to the PnP next to our bed.
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@DesertDreams88: yeah he isn't having blood in his poop right now. He's been in his crib for the past month and doing well but now that he's rolling it's a new ball game. He can't be in the magic Merlin since he's rolling and then he rolls over and gets upset that he's in his stomach and wakes up pissed that he can't roll back. Oh babies. Now he has a cold too with tons of drainage so he's been back in the the rock and play the last couple of nights.
nectarine / 2667 posts
@DesertDreams88: I replied on the other thread, but your list is good. Thanks for creating this thread! I kept telling myself to do it, but then one of my tiny humans would go berserk and I'd just close out my tab in defeat.
@mrs.shinerbock: C can't get enough of her big brother. She spends 80% of her time staring at him with huge eyes. He loves it!
@travellingbee: glad to hear his tummy issues are better! I just started baked milk products for myself a few weeks ago. C is more spitty but happy, so im going to keep going. Hopefully your guy will learn to roll back the other way soon. How was the transition out of the Merlin? We use it for daycare naps, but I'm scared to use it for overnight because transitioning out worries me!
We're taking a 12-hr road trip in a few weeks. We're going to a wedding and then staying with my parents in the Arizona heat for a week. I'm looking forward to everything except for crying in the car and 100+degree weather!
C has been talking a LOT. She does some grunts and shrieks, but mostly blows raspberries and spit bubbles. Whenever she talks she's covered in drool.
She sleeps 1/2 the night in the co-sleeper and then co-beds after her first wakeup (which used to be 12 or 1, but is currently like 9:30/10, booo)
Also, she is TEETHING! I thought I was imagining it, but the pediatrician agreed at her 4 month checkup. Good god, i forgot how crappy teething is. Her sleep is for the birds and she's got a terrible head cold with tons of snot, so we can't sleep well at all.

@DesertDreams88: Thanks for starting the new thread!
LO is sleeping her crib, still swaddled. Nighttime sleep is the one thing we have going for us. She sleeps consistently from 8:00pm-5:00am in her crib. I should probably start to drop the swaddle soon but I'm not ready to deal with crappy sleep yet!
We are having a rough time right now. I started work two weeks ago and got sick the first week with a high fever/virus. Last weekend, DH got a stomach bug and was out of commission. This week, LO1 got the fever virus plus a cough, and I got a terrible head cold that will not go away. Oh, and the local commuter trains were down last week due to a track fire so commuting took me 2+ hours each way. Next week has to be better, right?
Also, Grace is significantly behind on some gross motor milestones so we started weekly pt this week. Since I've been feeling so crummy for two weeks, it feels really challenging to get in all the exercises each day. The pt wants us to meet with the helmet technicians for an evaluation of her head shape, even though the two neurosurgeons did not recommend helmet therapy. Gah, it just feels like a lot right now! I can't wait until I feel healthy again and am on summer vacation, so I can focus on her therapy.
@JoyfulKiwi: 12 hour road trip, oh my! Good luck! and wow, I can't believe babies are teething already! These months are just flying by!
@mrs.shinerbock: LO2 loves her big bro as well. It's so sweet to watch them together! I just love seeing the sibling dynamic. Melts my heart right now.
@travellingbee: Sorry that sleep is so terrible right now. It's so hard on a teaching schedule when you have to wake up at the crack of dawn for work. Does your summer vacation start soon? And I'm impressed he can sit up unassisted!
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@QueensBee: we've had one thing after another too. Stomach bugs, ear infections, flu, colds- man it's been a tough few months! So I feel ya! I hope you all feel better soon. What milestones is she behind on? I'm surprised they would say she's so far behind already at this age when they aren't really expected to do much yet! All the back and forth with PR and doctors sounds stressful and I hope everything settles down for y'all. I'm done with work next week-yay! Looking forward to some downtime with bubba.
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@JoyfulKiwi: Well, it hasn't been too bad because that startle reflex seems to be gone for the most part, but now with all of this rolling and coughing, things are a little rocky. Love to be able to put him back in the suit to stop him from rolling, but that just doesn't seem safe
pear / 1718 posts
@travellingbee: Congrats on your last week until summer!
Yeah, I didn't know they could fall behind this early either! Basically, she won't lift her chest and head up at all during tummy time. And she has some stiffness in her neck that prevents her from having a full range of motion. So we are doing neck stretches, tracking exercises, and lots of tummy time with support on a big exercise ball. Oh, and she's a little uncoordinated (for her age) on her back grabbing toys so we practice that too. I hope the work pays off and she'll be caught up soon!

@DesertDreams88: DS2 sleeps in the crib in our room, and has since birth. We plan to move the crib to the nursery around 6 months. He is in just a sleepsack now, and is a thumb-sucker. He more or less self-swaddle weaned when he discovered his thumb. He often sleeps on his belly, which makes me nervous. He rolls both ways easily, and only gets upset when he encounters his crib wall. Sleep has been improving, today he STTN until 7, which is a record. Some days he wakes up around 5 or so, nurses, and takes an ~ 1 hour of additional sleep. He goes to bed on the late side, usually between 9:15 and 9:30.
@QueensBee: That sounds so stressful.
@mrs.shinerbock: My sons love to look at each other, and are interacting so much now.
We took a look weekend with my in-laws along for help (and babysitting!) which went smoothly, except for poop blowouts both mornings. We have a longer trip scheduled for August.
grapefruit / 4361 posts
@mdf106: Wow, that sleep sounds great! We just started to transfer him to the Pnp in our room (vs. the RnP) and between that and the 4month sleep regression we are only getting 2-3 hour stretches, and sometimes only 1hr
@QueensBee: Best of luck with the physical therapy! Good thing this was noticed so early! and yayyyy for sleep, hopefully that will last.
@travellingbee: congrats on summer break! Woohoo!
@JoyfulKiwi: Does C still hate the car seat? G got a lot better about it, maybe because he had to.... 2+ hours in the car daily for the past 2 months.
grapefruit / 4361 posts
LO has HFM The rash looks SO bad and it is almost everywhere. Dr. says it can take up to 2 weeks to clear up, and we are on Day 3. Ugh. At least he is not cranky or feverish.... knock on wood.
nectarine / 2667 posts
@DesertDreams88: oh noooo! I'm so sorry! Does he have the blisters? It's good he seems in okay spirits, but that is a bummer. When do you leave for your trip? Take care not to get it yourself.
(Oh and C doesn't hate the car seat anymore! She seemed to settle down around the time I went dairy free. How's your diet going?)
️️C has pink-eye. We've had our fair share of pink-eye in this house, but this looks just awful. We're headed on a long road-trip to a wedding this weekend (me, DH, and son are all in the wedding party) so I hope no one else catches it.

@DesertDreams88: Oh man. HFM is the level of Hell that Dante forgot to mention. My sympathies, mama. I hope it passes quickly for all of you.
@JoyfulKiwi: Poor baby. But she looks happy, at least? Hope you all manage to steer clear.
We transitioned A to her crib last night. She's been in the rock n play because of reflux, and then right when we were ready to move her, she got croup, then her reflux flared. We finally felt like she was in a good place so I put her in her crib last night. She only kind of woke up once, and I just had to pop the paci back in her mouth and she went right back to sleep. I feel like I"m testing fate with the 4m sleep regression right around the corner, but it was time - she's freakishly strong and yesterday morning I was afraid she was going to push herself up out of the RNP and/or knock the thing over!
She's rolling back to belly really well, but hasn't quite figured out how to consistently get herself back to her back, so she gets super mad when she gets stuck! She has unbelievable core and leg strength - she pulls herself up to sit up when on our laps, and can stand up on her legs with us holding her hands!
D is still completely smitten with her. He's been crying recently at school and telling his teacher he misses me, so I think the novelty is kind of wearing off and he's realizing that my time is always going to be a little split, but he's not lashing out at her at all. He still loves to hug and kiss and play with her. He calls her "sweet child," which just melts me to mush.
pear / 1718 posts
@DesertDreams88: Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear that! I'm glad it doesn't seem to be painful for LO right now. I hope it clears up quickly! Can you give any meds for HFM or just the usual Tylenol/Motrin for fevers and pain?
Has sleep gotten any better?
@JoyfulKiwi: That poor little eye! I really hope you are all able to make it to the wedding without pink eye! How stressful!
@littlebug: Glad the first night in the crib was a success! We are finally weaning from the swaddle this week and it's been a little shaky. But she does love her crib...
So sweet to hear about DS with her! Sounds like he's handling the change really well, even if it makes him a bit sad.
We are working hard at physical therapy and G is definitely getting stronger each day. She still hates tummy time though! We'll get there. We're also going to move forward with helmet therapy. They say she'll only need it for 8 weeks at this age and insurance will cover it 100% so, there's really no reason to risk not doing it.
Has anyone else started solids? We are doing a combo of traditional purees and BLW. Sometimes I give her rice cereal or baby oatmeal. Other times I give her food off my plate, like english muffin and watermelon. Basically, she LOVES to eat food now! When she's on my lap and I'm eating, her head follows the food from the plate to my mouth each time, totally fascinated until I give her some.
pineapple / 12793 posts
@QueensBee: we started a few solids this week. She was so into it. It's such a pain though!
A is army crawling. It's slow going but she is dragging herself around. Awesome and not cool all at the and time.
She's still in the co-sleeper but had started eating too nurse around five which sucks but in the scheme of things we're still pretty lucky.
I threw my back out which makes taking care of two babies very difficult. Thankfully C is in a bed so I'm not having to lift her as much.
clementine / 828 posts
@DesertDreams88: @JoyfulKiwi: @oliviaoblivia: I hope everybody feels better.
@QueensBee: We have introduced food. We are just doing purees for now, but including fork mushed items, such as avocado and banana, and things like yogurt. I don't think he is actually consuming much, but he has been getting enthusiastic and lunging towards the food.
nectarine / 2667 posts
@DesertDreams88: how's G feeling?
@littlebug: she was very happy by the next morning - all coos and smiles. How have the last few nights in the crib been? We've started using the crib for the first part of the night, although she wakes up around 10 every night. C has strong legs like A, but her core is weak! F loves being a big brother too; I think we're turning a corner with him accepting the new "normal" of sharing us with his sister.
@QueensBee: the wedding is Saturday and the drops are working for her, so if anyone else gets it at least we have medicine! What type of therapies do you do? We haven't started food yet, but C also loves watching us eat & will try to grab our food if she's in our lap.
@oliviaoblivia: wow, crawling?! That's incredible! Sorry go hear about your back. How are are feeling?
@mdf106: thanks for the well-wishes. Does he sit up well? I can't get C to sit without toppling forward onto her face. I thought I needed to wait on food until she was sitting? Our ped said 6 months & I don't feel like 1 more month is that long - it's been going by so fast!
Any other babes teething? I swear her bottom two are ready to pop any day!
clementine / 828 posts
@JoyfulKiwi: He is not sitting on his own, but he sits fine in the high chair buckled in, no slumping or anything. The straps are not even very tight, because we use the same one with DS1 without adjusting in between. I have heard to wait until sitting, but never seen any actual evidence on this.
We started food right at 4 months because my pediatrician recommended it. There has been some evidence that starting food earlier, closer to 4 months, reduces the incidence of allergies (and especially introducing foods that are likely to cause an allergic reaction).
When my first was 4 months, I was very confused about introducing food. I did a fair amount of research, and did not find any studies showing negative affects to introducing food at 4 months compared to 6 months (and I was looking, because I had a bias towards introducing foods later).
grapefruit / 4361 posts
@JoyfulKiwi: His blisters have scabbed over, and some are peeling now. Fresh pink skin underneath. He doesn't seem to be bothered by the process. Now DH has it, but I don't, so I'm hoping my immune system's effectiveness will hold out We leave for our trip in 10 days, and HFMD is contagious for about a week so as long as I don't get sick, we wont postpone it.
Sorry to hear about the pink eye, but a cute picture nonetheless! I see a different kind of Sophie in the picture, do you like that one comparably? G is doing better with the carseat too, thankfully! I guess he got used to being in it for 2 hrs a day.
We have not starting solids here yet either because he does NOT sit up well (Jan 27 bday, so barely 4 months) and we're just going to wait until after our trip (5.5 months) Seems easiest.
grapefruit / 4361 posts
@littlebug: Sounds like a strong little girl!! Impressive LO has been sleeping in the PnP for 2 weeks now.... oh how I miss the RnP, lol.
@QueensBee: Sleep is not any better here but since his HFMD is clearing up, we're going to go back to some gentle CIO. It was successful for the 3 days we got to try it, haha. Didn't want to do it during HFMD because of the sore throat. Sounds like your LO is doing so well with food! That must be a relief esp in relation to the PT & helmet! The 8 weeks will be over before you know it.
@oliviaoblivia: crawling?!?! oh my gosh, awesome! Although now you have to keep track of 3 little movers instead of just 2. Can your dr give you anything helpful for the back pain?
pear / 1718 posts
How is everyone doing? Has the pink eye and HFMD passed? How was Father's Day?
@DesertDreams88: We did CIO tonight. She cried for 56 minutes, and mere moments before I was about to cave (I was giving it an hour), she passed out. Even though she's sleeping now, I still feel so guilty. She's such a sweet and happy baby. I feel terribly that I made her cry herself to sleep! I try to remember how much it helped with my son but it's still hard. I hope tomorrow is easier. Have you guys tried it again recently? How is sleep going?
@JoyfulKiwi: She must have been such a hit at the wedding! What a cutie!
grapefruit / 4361 posts
@QueensBee: HFMD has passed here so we're back to gentle CIO for naps and night sleep 7pm-1am- 2 min wait the first day, 4 min wait the next day, 6 min wait the next, etc. We're up to a 12 min wait now but he usually falls asleep within the first 5 minutes of crying. Thank God for video monitors!! 56 minutes, that's so tough! Hopefully tonight and the next night will be much easier. In the end, the habits of good sleep outweigh the sadness of crying for a couple nights, I think. Hopefully it works for you!
nectarine / 2667 posts
@DesertDreams88: I just remembered your question about the Sophie teether. I got that kind with the loops because it was easier for C to grasp/bring to her mouth. She likes both kinds though. I'm glad HFM has passed for you. It's been running rampet through daycare. We missed the worst of it because we've been on vacation, but there's still a chance.
@QueensBee: pink eye has cleared up and C was great at the wedding. My dad held her & she slept through the whole reception/dance party!! Did you start the new therapy yet? How's tummy time going?

The poll about how active the due date boards are got me wondering if this would be easier on a FB board?
My due date board for LO1 moved to a FB group a few months after our babies were born. We are still pretty active 2.5 years later - 3-4 people post each week, we share pictures every few weeks and talk about the current milestones and challenges.
Pros - it's a lot easier (for me) to see and reply. Members that are no longer active on HB are still active on FB. We can make it a secret group, so none can see pictures or even find it unless they are invited by one of us. Cons - everyone has to have and use FB to participate. What do you guys think? Should we do it?
nectarine / 2667 posts
@mrs.shinerbock: I'd do a FB group! I'm a lot more active there than on HB. Also, I think comments to each other wouldn't get buried as easily. Sometimes, if I don't logon for a day or so, I find I miss entire conversations.
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@mrs.shinerbock: I'd be fine with a Facebook group. I just noticed I missed a ton of comments on here!
So here's what's up with us:
Liam is 5.5 months, sits very well independently, is pushing up almost onto all fours (so I think he'll start crawling in a month or so, we'll see), he's teething but nothing has come through yet, we started some solids and he loves purées but I had to back off because his stomach issues started back up with green mucousy diarrhea and some blood in his stool. Which means bad diaper rash too. I'm so frustrated trying to figure out if it is something I ate or a reaction to a purée.... I'd like to wean him onto the formula within the next month I guess. I'm sick of stressing out trying to figure out what else I need to eliminate and sick of seeing my baby upset and in pain. I hate hate hate the idea of giving up BFing but I can't keep doing this much longer. Anyway... he's a healthy 20.5 lbs right now!! Our big guy!
pear / 1718 posts
@mrs.shinerbock: Sure, I'd definitely do a FB group! How do we get involved?
@travellingbee: What a strong guy! The feeding issues sound stressful. I hope his tummy settle down for you.
grapefruit / 4361 posts
I would definitely do a facebook group too; I'm more active there than HB. Invite me if it happens
@travellingbee: that's got to be so hard! I would be stressing too. Did you see any improvement with the daytime formula?
We have started purees and omgosh what a mess. LO grabs for the spoon and pulls it towards his mouth, which is super cute but also means he gets the puree on his hands, and then when he rubs his face, hair, ears, nose, etc, it goes everywhere.
He has also totally mastered back to belly rolling and now prefers to side sleep or tummy-sleep. Hopefully belly-to-back rolling is coming soon!
pineapple / 12793 posts
I'm up for Facebook. Has anyone started the FB group yet?
A is awesome. She's gotten much better at crawling though it's not a normal crawl, she kind of bunny hops both legs forward at the same time.
We're up to two meals a day and she's eating tons so I'll probably add a third in soon. Solid are fun but such a mess.
pomegranate / 3779 posts
@JoyfulKiwi: @QueensBee: @littlebug: @DesertDreams88: @oliviaoblivia:
Wall me you FB email address and I'll invite you. Once you've joined, you can add other people, but it will be a secret group so it won't be searchable by outsiders.
pear / 1718 posts
Hi everyone! Did the FB group ever get started? This board has been so quiet lately!
How are LOs doing?
G is such a happy baby at this age. She is on a pretty predictable nap and sleep schedule, and she prefers falling asleep on her own to being rocked or held. Very different from my first LO! She has two teeth and is slowly catching up on gross motor milestones. She can finally sit up on her own, which is so cute and fun. I think it's going to be another month or two before crawling though. She gets physical therapy twice a week and they seem pleased with her progress so I'm trying not to be too concerned. G is a BIG eater! She regularly eats way more than her big brother. Lunch could be half an avocado, a banana, a scrambled egg, and a pureed sweet potato. I have no idea where she puts it all!
pomegranate / 3779 posts
@QueensBee: we did start the FB group. Wall me your email and I can add you if I haven't already.
L is growing, growing, growing. He isn't crawling yet, but I think it will be really soon. He started daycare this week because I am hoping to get a job offer soon. He's doing pretty well, but still not sleeping well there. I hope that will clear up soon.
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@QueensBee: glad to hear she's doing well! L2 is doing well- just cut his 4th tooth and is feeling better and back to sleeping most of the night. (He wakes at 4 to eat). He's still big! About 23lbs, and is crawling and cruising. He walks (albeit awkwardly) with a push toy. Sounds like she does eat a ton! Wow!!
