@marym: I am getting the NT scan but my doctor tried to persuade me out of it because my low risk status, the risk of false positives, and my "tendency towards pregnancy anxiety"... I'm like, no, you don't understand, all of my anxiety is related to my baby dying in utero; my anxiety is not about a chromosomal condition. I am just a person that prefers more information rather than less information. Otherwise my mind works up a lot of bad scenarios, unless I have logic and concrete information to discipline it with If I get not-great results, then we'll do own
I have to get it at a separate clinic as well.
So you are waiting until 20 weeks for the anatomy scan to reveal gender? My ob acutally LIKES to do gender ultrasounds, so he is doing that for me at 16 weeks.
pomelo / 5129 posts
@DesertDreams88: Our OB gave us the list of testing available at the last visit so we could make up our mind before this week's visit. He basically said "Read it, if you have any questions feel free to ask, but 90% of our patients don't have any testing done."
As long as things progress normally, our next scan won't be until 20 weeks. Their standard is 8 and 20.

I had an appointment today. Heartbeat is 160. Everything looks fine. I go back for the spina bifida blood test next week and then August 3 is anatomy scan.
@MaryM: that's interesting that only 10% of your doctors patients do the NT scan.
pomelo / 5129 posts
@travellingbee: He was talking about any sort of genetic testing, not just the NT scan. It makes sense since it's a Catholic practice. He said those that do have testing, have it to be more prepared. None of their patients would intend to terminate.

@travellingbee: I only wish I had the faith of so many of the women who go there and are so freaking laid back!
Like my SIL. She's just going to her first prenatal visit tomorrow and will be almost 11 weeks. She's going "early" this pregnancy because she's AMA (but she has been for her last two kids too). I don't think she usually goes until 18 weeks or so. I think I'd go crazy with anxiety!

@MaryM: I did the NT scan at 12 weeks and it was so awesome to see the baby and get that added reassurance that everything looks okay We also did the Harmony testing and found out we are having a girl!!! We are so excited and absolutely overjoyed

Ah you people make me so jealous with finding out so early !!!
I just did my NT scan (totally normal) and the tech basically laughed at me when I asked about a nub shot (I figured she would anyway). I have another ultrasound at high-risk on the 20th so just after 15 weeks ...... They can tell sex by then right ?

I wouldn't put this down yet but doctor said there's a 60-70% chance baby is a boy from 14w4day ultrasound. Will know for sure at the next one.

Had a random 12week5day scan yesterday because of a cyst they wanted to make sure dissolved. Baby was SO active.. doing tons of somersaults and kicking, but kept turning away his or her back towards us. I'm leaning towards boy still, but we'll find out in 7 weeks Heartrate was 165 though which I know is "typically" girl according to the OWT. I'm so in love!
Definitely has DH's nose and head lol.

@MaryM: @lauren0817: there is also a $10 off $50 purchase if you text "apparel" to 827438 and they can be used together. (Just went and bought a shirt and dress yesterday.)

@lauren0817: cute announcement and congrats on !
@smith: congrats on your !
@sera_87: sometimes they can, but I know several people who were told one thing at the 16wk US and another at the 20wk one.

@mrs.shinerbock: Ugh! I saw that coupon too, but didn't realize they could be used together! If I'd realized that I would have gotten two more tank tops and one would pretty much have been free (I have an obsession with tank tops. I layer pretty much everything!)
pomegranate / 3779 posts
@MaryM: the Liz Lange ones without the ruching on the side? I lived in those for most of my last pregnancy and the first 8 months postpartum. I still wear them on the weekends because I like the extra length. I like to layer them too and have 12 or so.
pomelo / 5129 posts
@mrs.shinerbock: Yes! I LOVE then length! And that they were cotton. The other camis they had were some weird stretchy fabric that I knew I'd hate.

I wanted to pop by today to mention that Gap has a great sale this week! It's an additional 50% off all their sale merchandise. I bought 15 new maternity items for under $150! One really cute pair of gray skinny jeans was only $5! Anyway, I highly recommend it for cute, reasonably priced maternity clothes... and some newborn outfits too!

I just received an order from Destination Maternity. They sent me a $50 off $300 coupon card with my order. I am pretty stocked up on maternity clothes and it expires 7/19, so I won't be using it then. Does anyone want it?

Hey ladies. I have been quiet for awhile as I will the first trimester to be over. I have been keeping up with the board but have been feeling pretty lousy, tired and unusually introverted these past several weeks. Did have my first midwife appointment. The midwife found the baby with the Doppler and we heard its heartbeat for about 3 seconds. Highlight of the trimester so far! my due dat also moved to January 28.
We are not doing genetic testing or having any scans til 20 weeks! I absolutely love summer but this one seems to be going so slow!
I am officially not able to hide my bump anymore so I have shared the news with my friends, family and coworkers. I bought some clothes a size up but I am so not ready to move to a maternity wardrobe!!
@QueensBee: Welcome! And thanks for the Gap sale tip.
So excited for everyone who already found out the sex! We were team green last time, but will be finding out at my 20 week scan this time! Thrilled for that!

@QueensBee: Welcome!
I had a good check up this morning. I've had brown spotting off and on since the weekend, so I was pretty freaked out going in. I've also been rather sore lately, so it of course has me questioning if I'm just sore, or if that's cramps.
But we heard the heartbeat (a strong 175) and could hear the baby move around as well. At the end of the day, the first trimester will officially be over!
I was preparing to tell my bosses today, but now I'm starting to chicken out. My direct supervisor has 0 empathy (seriously, we've taken personality tests) and any news is absorbed by her thinking "how will this affect me?"
I'd almost just tell the big boss and let him tell her. lol
pomelo / 5129 posts
@DesertDreams88: (followup to a conversation weeks ago) BTW, I asked my doctor about progesterone. He said if my tests came back normal, I could stop taking it now.
But I don't know that I want to! I like knowing that I'm doing everything *I* can to help this baby...so unless my levels are super high, I might keep taking it. Plus I just ordered a refill and that shit isn't cheap!

@mrs.shinerbock: @lauren0817: @bisous: Thanks!!
@kristinleigh: That's such a nice offer, thank you. If I hadn't already blown the budget at Gap yesterday, I would have taken you up on it! I hope you are loving your new clothes!
@bisous: Sounds like a great appointment! You are so patient to wait until 20 weeks for an ultrasound! Will be exciting to find out the gender!
@MaryM: So close to the second trimester! I'm glad the spotting and cramping turned out to be nothing.
I tried to set up a meeting with my boss but she was unavailable and I ended up telling her over text message because she kind of guessed it. She's lovely though so it's not a big deal, just very awkward! Your boss sounds terrible. Hope it goes well whenever you do decide. I bet it you'll feel so relieved once it's done! Good luck!
pomelo / 5129 posts
@QueensBee: It went over ok. I think I shocked her so bad that she ended up being relieved I was *just* pregnant. I asked her to come to our big boss' office, so I think she thought I was quitting. then I started by saying I'm going to need three months off. lol
The big boss' birthday is in january so he's excited

Hi Ladies. Things are pretty quiet here, still feeling icky, which is both reassuring(ish) and terrible. I got word today that our health insurance has approved my progesterone shots from week 16-36, and while I am thankful they are approved I am absolutely dreading getting a shot each week.
In other good news, found out last week that I got a raise and promotion, which with the increase in out childcare costs coming up couldn't have come at a better time. I may have cried when my boss told me.
@QueensBee: welcome and congrats!

Hello ladies! I've been following along, but just too tired/nauseous/busy to reply to anything. It's fun to see and hear about everyone who's getting ultrasounds & knowing the sex of their babies already!
@bisous: I'm in the exact same boat as you This time around the first trimester has been kicking my ass. We're not doing any testing or ultrasounds until 20 weeks either, so the heartbeat is definitely the most exciting thing that's happened so far! I put up a note with some candy in the lounge at work to "announce", because (as my director put it) I was "putting people in a weird place" - I'm totally showing & no one wants to ask if I'm pregnant.
I checked the BabyCenter weekly growth info today and was reminded about how amazing/crazy fetal development is. It's eyes used to be on the side of it's head! It's intestines are moving *back inside* it's body! It's only the size of a LIME! Biology blows my mind.

hi mommies! just caught up on all the posts as i haven't been active in the last few weeks. so many exciting updates..
we had our NT scan yesterday and everything looks good so far. heartbeat was 152 and i'm pretty certain we are having a BOY! obviously we aren't announcing the sex yet, but at 12-13 weeks, the tech had initially saw the boy bits early in the ultrasound but went ahead with all the measurements before asking if me and hubs were planning on finding out the sex. when i told her yes, she said she had a pretty good idea what we were having and showed me various angles and views of the baby's nether-regions and it was very obvious! i had no idea the genitalia was that developed so early on. she said by 14 weeks she can usually tell 100% but wait until the anatomy scan to confirm officially to parents. either way, this was very exciting news so we shall see if her theory is correct in a few weeks.
also, as this is my second pregnancy, i think i can already feel the baby move but it's quite subtle and not so consistent. feels like dull popping sensations.
i'm feeling better these days - i get sudden/extreme nausea and fatigue in the evenings on some days however, so i'm hoping i'll be 100% soon.
loving the bump thread - everyone's bumps are SO cute!!

Are any of you dealing with horrid congestion?
I asked my doctor about it (I've had sinus headaches nightly for a week) and he duggested sudafed. Seeing as I'm posting this at 3 am, I remember why I hate sudafed! Hello insomnia!
I've done sinus rinses, but the congestion is up in my upper sinuses (forehead) so the rinse isn't reaching it. Tylenol can't touch these headaches...
In other news, my SIL told Her kids I'm pregnant today. Her 12 year old said she hopes its a girl because they're cuter, her 13 year old asked if it would be black or white (dh and I are interracial) LOL!
