    @dagret: I did. Maybe I'll give that a try!

Anybody else with fussy babies also have a baby with an elevaed temp? After I changed D's first poopy diaper at 1pm (not normal), I thought he felt a little warm. Rectal temp is 99.6. Between that, the lack of poopy diapers (and the one he had was runny), and his general fussiness (only happy if nursing or sleeping on me), I've got a call in to the ped. For the 2nd time this week. I'm officially " that mom."

@littlebug: I call all the time ! I figure that's what they get paid the big bucks for ! I called yesterday because his poop was stringy haha! Literally every time that I have called they have told me things were normal - except with his reflux!

@coacheswife123: Good point. Yeah, this poop was runny and stringy. Ick.

@littlebug: so bizarre looking . Maybe your ped will call back soon.

@littlebug: L runs about 99 when he's fussy. I checked his temp twice in the past few days and it was 99 both times.

@coacheswife123: @dagret: Ped called back and isn't too concerned. She said to just keep an eye on him and if it gets worse (the temp or his behavior) to call back.

    @littlebug: I'm glad she's not worried. Our practice doesn't call it a fever till 100.4 I think.

@dagret: oh that sounds like a really rough night. i've definitely had my share of breakdowns. and everything always feels worse when it's in the dead of night and you know you could be sleeping! hope today is better.

@littlebug: you night last night sounds like ours. he just would not stay asleep, waking up at least every hour, and super mega fussy. i'm going to chalk it up to a wonder week--i don't know whether or not it's true, but i find it psychologically comforting that there might be a reason as opposed to my life just devolving.

oh, the rooting when the nipple is right there! has yours banged his head against you yet?

@oliviaoblivia: I just re-read your post and "yells into my boobs" just cracks me up. I just picture a baby screaming into boobs like a megaphone.

  14. littlebug

    honeydew / 7504 posts

@edelweiss: I have no idea if wonder weeks are real, but totally agree that it just makes me feel better. And yes, he's hit his head, slammed his nose into me... it's outrageous.

  15. dagret

    grapefruit / 4235 posts

@littlebug: @edelweiss: totally agree with you on the wonder week attitude - I don't care if its real it just makes me feel better that there might be a good reason for the fussing! Hope your LOs are back to normal soon!

I've been holding L for his nap this past 1,5 hrs - hopefully he will sleep better tonight.

  16. littlebug

    honeydew / 7504 posts

@dagret: Me, too! Longest nap all day - the others were only 20 minutes or so cuz I tried to put him down. This time, I decided to say FU to being productive!

  17. dagret

    grapefruit / 4235 posts

Forgot to mention that DH dressed L this morning. He had on pants to one outfit, the onesie from another outfit and the top to a third outfit. You would have thought the fact that each piece had different animals on it was a clue...(dog, monkey and penguin!) a for effort though. And bonus points bc it was a poopy blowout and he didn't wake me up.

  18. edelweiss

    grapefruit / 4923 posts

@dagret: definitely A for effort on getting LO dressed, and awesome that he handled the blowout on his own. i think my husband would freak out and call the fire department or something if he had to deal with one on his own!

oh it's been one of those days. LO won't sleep, wakes up at least every 2 hours to eat, and spending most of "naptime" crying and fussing. it's the total failure of naps that's the most tiring and distressing. i've been emailing my husband with updates (i want him to feel some of the pain) and he said i should go get a massage tonight.

  19. littlebug

    honeydew / 7504 posts

@edelweiss: Sorry to hear you're having a tough day, but major points for Hubs on the massage suggestion!

How are you guys doing with tummy time? D still hates it - he screams within a minute or two. I started laying him on my shins, and laying on my back with legs up at a 90° angle. He likes that a little bit more, since he can look down at me and I can talk and make faces at him, but it still doesn't last much longer than 5-6 minutes. And Hubs does "pull-ups" with him, which we've read help build up neck strength. Otherwise, I don't know what to do other than let him just scream through it.

    GOLD / grapefruit / 4007 posts

@dagret: hahahaha. DH had put jack in some doozies too !
@edelweiss: you should def go get a massage !
@littlebug: jack hates it too. But loves to do it on our chests do we do that a lot ! He has good head and neck control so I'm not toooo worried but can't wait for him to start playing on his play mat !

  21. edelweiss

    grapefruit / 4923 posts

@coacheswife123: sometimes i watch DH dress or undress E and i cringe and bite my tongue--it's not the outfits he chooses (at this point we're just doing onesies or footed sleepers), it's the absolute acrobatics that take place to get the clothes on and off! it's a good thing babies are flexible, because man, there is some contortionism going on.

@littlebug: i don't know much about tummy time, but i think it's okay that he doesn't like it. and actually, 5-6 minutes sounds like a long time, so kudos to you guys for sticking it out! E actually likes tummy time, which is one of the reasons i'm thinking of having him nap unswaddled and on his belly. shh, don't tell anyone.

  22. littlebug

    honeydew / 7504 posts

@dagret: I came downstairs this morning, and Hubs had D in a striped onesie with argyle babylegs and striped socks. Hilarious. At least this time he thought to cover his legs and tootsies!

  23. allison

    pear / 1895 posts

@edelweiss: I've been considering doing naps unswaddled and on his belly, too. He won't sleep unless he's swaddled, but he's started breaking out of them! He loves to be on his stomach, and I've read they sleep really well that way. I may wait a couple more weeks to start it, but it's definitely something I've thought about. Let me know how it goes for you!

E never tries to lift his head when we put him on his tummy on the floor. But I usually hold him high up on my shoulder and he supports his head and looks around some. And I burp him sitting up on my lap, and he also does some head supporting then too. So I'm not too worried about it, but I do feel like we should be doing more flat surface play.

G is a terrible napper as well, rarely more than 30 minutes. Sometimes longer if we're out for a walk with the carseat in the stroller, but she wakes up when I carry her upstairs to the condo.

Going to start trying to wear her. I went to a babywearing class today and now I feel more confident with my K-Tan and we bought a Becco Gemini.

@kayakgirl73: Rowan loves being worn. We were out all day today (on accident) and I didn't bring my stiller so I wore her in the boba and she was asleep almost the whole time except to wake to feed. DH and I are huge fans of the carrier!

    Love all the pics!

Naps are hit and miss with us. Half of the time she will fall asleep in her carseat when I go to work and DH picks her ups but not all the time. The last few days tummy time has turned into nap time, cause once i put her on her tummy she falls asleep. So I have been laying her on her play mat in the afternnoon to take a nap on her tummy. I feel better that way so i can keep an eye on her. I have a feeling once she can roll over she is gonna be a tummy sleeper. She already will only sleep on her side anyways.
She lifts her head ok but she doesnt use her arms at all yet, hoping she figures out to hold her self up soon.
We go back to the Dr on monday to finish her 2 month shots. I am very interested to see what she weighs, I just feel like she isnt gaining, or atleast not gaining much. I hope she has hit double digits! I am so tired of everyone saying how tiny she is and assuming she is only a couple weeks old when we are out and about. I feel like they are judging us.
Treated myself to a new diaper bag today, since it is my bday Got a good deal on a Kate Spade one at the outlet. I was hoping to just get a new purse, I am dyeing to get a Michael Kors bag, but nothing struck my fancy. But I love the new diaper bag!

Hey ladies. We're having a tough few days over here. Dylan hasn't been eating that well...16oz average , but he eats less earlier in the day, so I constantly worry about whether we'll get to a decent number!

Re: tummy time - my OT says it's the number 1 most impt thing for development so keep trying! She'd like us to do at least 3x for a half hour total. 5-6 minutes is totally fine... Just do it more often.

I wear Dylan around the house in my k'tan just about very day. I'm getting a better hang on making it more supportive each day. We also went for a walk in the ergo. It's def supportive, I just don't like that I can't sit in it!

@Mrs Green Grass: I hope he starts eating better soon! Last week Abi was only eating around 15 ounces a day. She was still having plenty of dirty diapers, but it was a struggle to get her to eat more than 2 oz at a time. This week is a bit better but still not what the Dr wants. She wants atleast 4 oz every 4 hrs and Abi does anywhere from 2.5 to 4 oz every 4 hours. Most of the time 3 to 3.5 She is only in the 5th percentile for weight so I worry she is still not eating enough.

    grapefruit / 4923 posts

@pinkb: happy belated birthday! a new diaper bag sounds like a great gift for yourself. love, love that photo. i hope the appointment goes well tomorrow. that must be stressful about the weight gain, but i'm sure abi is gaining and growing.

@allison: @pinkb: in terms of sleeping, we've given up on putting him on his back. we generally put him on his side (really far to the side so that the arm that's on top can fall over to the side he's facing--otherwise i feel like it flails too much), and have tried on his tummy for some naps. it certainly doesn't solve all our problems--he's still an a champion fusser who fights sleep like it's his job--but i feel like it does help (hope it's not just my imagination, but even if it is, who cares). we don't swaddle his arms for the side and belly sleeping. a couple of times i have caught him soothing himself by sucking on his hand, but he prefers the pacifier at this point.

@Mrs Green Grass: that sounds really stressful about the eating, i hope it gets better each day.

where do you guys generally let your LO nap? i'm wondering if i've been too strict. i put him in the crib for each nap, except for once a day when i go out for my walk with the ergo. it's a battle every single time he goes in the crib, and sometimes i just feel like throwing in the towel and buying a swing or carrying him all day (although the latter sounds tiring and unfeasible). i also think he's not a good sleeper like some other babies, and that's just something i have to deal with.

@pinkb: ha she is so cuuuute !

@edelweiss: j sleeps in his crib every night but naps in the RnP or in my lap! Prob creating a monster but since he goes down at night with no problem I'm not too worried and enjoy my cuddle time !

@pinkb: D is 9th percentile right now. We should totally chat to commiserate because its so stressful!

D naps wherever during the day. On me, in the carrier, in the. At seat, in the swing. Sometimes in the crib since we finally elevated it. He doesn't really fuss about anywhere, but most of the time I hold him until he's asleep - not always.

  32. littlebug

    honeydew / 7504 posts

@edelweiss: D is the save as @coacheswife123: He sleeps in the crib every night, but usually naps on me, though I am making more of an effort to have him nap in the rnp or better yet the crib.

    @littlebug: love it! Thanks!

Liv sleeps all over the place. Her crib, her day bed, my arms, our bed, the swing, sofa, ergo, stroller...today she slept on the play mat on the floor at a friends house (bad mom) I'm trying to keep her naps flexible so that down the road she can nap anywhere. This might totally blow up in my face.

@oliviaoblivia: I kind of feel the same way...I'd like him to be able to sleep anywhere. But I think I'm lucky to have a good sleeper so far...

E had his 2-month checkup today with immunizations. he screamed, of course, when he got his shots, but i've heard him much, much worse. he acted all calm and curious during the rest of the appointment, which i think he did on purpose so that the pediatrician couldn't take me seriously when i was talking to her about his fussiness and wondering when i could start sleep training. ha!

p.s. this visit was in direct and total contrast to the previous one, where everyone on earth knew that E was unhappy because he was wailing at the tippy top of his tiny yet oddly powerful lungs. oh, and i was crying also.

  38. littlebug

    honeydew / 7504 posts

@edelweiss: Same here! D was happy and smiley through the whole appt. Screamed right when he got the shots for about 10seconds, then calmed right back down! It was so nice, given his behavior last time was constant yelling!

  39. edelweiss

    grapefruit / 4923 posts

@littlebug: so glad it went well! i was really nervous beforehand about what it was going to be like. how was he for the rest of the day? hope the little guy is feeling good. i'm excited to be more open about taking him places now (although there's another part of me that's like--oh i don't have an excuse anymore).

@allison: update on the tummy sleeping--he naps on his belly maybe once a day, particularly if i got him to fall asleep in the carrier because i think he might miss the feeling of pressure against his tummy. i could totally be making that up. however, i'm not going to go more than once a day because i realized that when he starts daycare in a month, there's no way that they will let him sleep on his belly (which is good and makes me feel better) so i don't want him to get too used to it.

  40. littlebug

    honeydew / 7504 posts

@edelweiss: He seems ok. He slept for over 2 hours when we first got home, then he was super fussy, so I gave him some acetaminophen, and he calmed down. The nurse told me to put s hour compress on his leg, so I put a hot water bottle on it, and I think he liked that.
