Hi Jan Mommas.
Just wondered how your first days/weeks were going with your LOs. Figured we could use this thread to keep up once LOs are here.

Great idea!!
Little Alba is nearing the 48 hour mark. I still can't believe she's here. So far, she's great. Sleeping most of the day. Awake every 2-3 hours at night.
I'm feeling really sore (and have a lot of pelvic pressure). Taking it easy for the first 5-10 days is my goal. My nipples are raw. She had (kind of still has) a bad latch/interest in eating, and without a lactation consultant, my nips are not in good shape. Calling a LC today!!
Other than that, life is good. The lack of sleep hasn't really manifested yet, and I'm still on the oh-my-gosh-I'm-a-mom high.
Can't wait to hear from the other ladies!! And, for those of you who are due this month, good luck!!! You can do it.

I agree, great idea!
Things have been going pretty well. DD is 2 weeks old! DS is adjusting, having a hard time sometimes when I am nursing or pumping. DD is doing really well, starting to get more alert during the day and is starting to do a 4 hour stretch at night sometimes. We had some weight loss issues at first, but she is gaining well now, which I am feeling relieved about! DH went back to work last week, but has had time off with New Years and what not. I am nervous for today because I have no help planned and it is a 10 hour work day for DH so we are on our own for a while! Oh, and recovery has been going pretty well! I am so thankful for my VBAC and that I can easily lift and hold my kiddos without worrying about an incision!
@Vegmama: I hope your recovery goes well and that a LC can help with her latch!

@Vegmama: What nipple cream have you been using, if you don't mind me asking?
pear / 1799 posts
@Navy_Mommy: Alternating between coconut oil and calendula nipple cream. Both can be applied & not washed between feedings!!
nectarine / 2458 posts
@Vegmama: Earth Mama Angel Baby nipple cream can be a life saver and it's sold on Amazon if you have Prime! (and can be left on while baby nurses)

I have to admit that life is super hectic. DH's broken leg has made a smooth recovery from the c-section very difficult for me. I'm trying to take it easy, but it's hard because he can't do much.
Little babybehr is doing alright, or so I thought. He seems to be nursing well and pooping/peeing enough, but the pediatrician says he hasn't gained enough weight. He's still not at birth weight. They are thinking tongue tied. It wouldn't be a big deal but I'm having flashbacks to when DS#1 was a newborn and how he couldn't ever figure out nursing, thus requiring formula at 3 months bc he as about to be labelled failure to thrive. I really don't want that to happen. Why can't I make boys who nurse well?!?
On the plus size, DS and DS love those new baby brother and are so very sweet with him! It melts my heart how caring they are with him

I just wanted to update real quick while I'm home on a VERY quick break. The twins are two weeks old today & are going through the two week growth spurt. They are eating & gaining like crazy! Baby girl has had two events in this last week where she has destated: (Apnea, bradycardia, and desaturation: Sometimes, a premature baby stops breathing for short periods of time. This is known as apnea. Apnea is often accompanied by a slower-than-normal heart rate (bradycardia). Apnea and bradycardia may be associated with desaturation, which means a low level of oxygen in the blood.) Both of done this & it can be serious but they so far have been able to get themselves out of it w/o needing any interventions. They need to not have an "event" for 5 days in a row in order to go home. My biggest fear because baby girl didn't start this till Saturday is what happens if it happens on day 6 when we have her home. I don't have a fancy machine to wake me up and let me know she is in distress!
After struggling to going weight they are both now over their birth weight. Baby boy is almost 7 pounds now! He had a rough start but is doing better than sissy now & has been given the all clear to go home! I have soooo much mommy guilt even leaving them at night to go home & sleep...Leaving one baby behind is going to rip me apart!
The hospital is leaving their room set up the way that it is so that we can continue to bring our son up to the room to visit sissy & to maintain our schedule.
I've been able to supply most of their milk but they have been supplementing at times over night or during the day to give me a break. At the most they get 50/50 breast milk/formula. I've been working on building up my supply but I have to have time to get in a marathon session of 12 min on 12 min off for an hour each day. They keep saying "take time for mommy" HELLO!?
Over all things are going well & babies are doing good. I still have some pain but over all my recovery has gone well.

How are all you mommas doing?
We are doing well here! Nights are rough since our LO wants to eat every hour almost. He is breast feeding really well and was back to his birth weight by 6 days! He is not fussy, just wants to eat all the time! He is a good baby overall and we just love him like crazy!

@Emsmems: we are doing pretty well over here! Just battled a clogged duct which sucks and now I am trying to get my supply back from that. Ugh. We definitely have our days that are harder but it's expected with a newborn and toddler! Dd has been sleeping pretty well at night and it still super sleepy all day long. I can't believe she is 5 weeks old already!
@Sugar.Biscuit: Any updates on the twins? I hope you guys are doing well!
@MamaBehr: How's it going with you all and with DH's leg recovery? I can't imagine juggling all that you have going on. You are a super momma! Is nursing improving?
@Vegmama: How are you and your LO doing? Is nursing going better?

@creativemomma15: Sorry im taking so long to get back to you. Things have been crazy! Baby girl got to come home about 2 weeks ago. They did a sleep study test and found out that she has severe premature breathing. They allowed her to come home on apnea monitor. We had to go through the équipement training and it CPR and first aid in order for her to come home. The monitor detects whether or not she stops breathing or her heart stops beating. We have had 4 events since she's been home.
They've been waking up about every 2 hours to eat or stayed awake from 11 p.m. To 4 a.m. What a horrible witching hour to pick. BH and I I have been working on a schedule and we have one down but its not maintainable and are hoping to hire a nanny so that I can get some sleep. Going 48 hours of 2 hours of sleep just doesn't cut it.
I hope everybody else is doing well I see the boys aren't nearly as active I'm sure that's because we are all way too busy can't wait to see pictures of everybody!
pear / 1610 posts
@Sugar.Biscuit: No worries! I understand being crazy and I only have 1 newborn at home! I am glad baby girl got to come home, but the breathing must be scary! When she has an event, is it hard to get her to start breathing again? Will she grow out of it? I'm sorry they are up so much and that their witching hour is overnight. I hope you can find someone to help that you are comfortable with. 2 hours of sleep is definitely not enough!
I am sure we are all very busy adjusting to newborns, recovering, and all of that. I will have to post a picture soon, I just don't have one handy right now to post.
pomegranate / 3275 posts
@Sugar.Biscuit: I'm glad you posted an update, I've been thinking about you! That sure sounds scary and I hope that your sweet little girly grows out of it soon. I also hope you get some sleep soon.
@creativemomma15: Did you get your supply back up? That has been my biggest concern since day one since DS#1 had a poor latch which resulted in my horrible supply and then his poor weight gain. So, I've been obsessed with my supply with DS#2.
Things are starting to settle here, a little bit. We have been very lucky to have an endless visitors, who do less visiting and more working. Since DH isn't able to do much (we go back on the 18th to find out what the next step is) it is nice to have someone else do baths or clean the kitchen etc. DS#2 is up to 10 lbs, which I guess is good. I think he's gaining enough. He's also started to smile a little! I can't believe he'll be 6 weeks old on Friday, that's when DD smiled for the first time!
pear / 1610 posts
@MamaBehr: I did get my supply back up! I was stressed too because I had to work hard with lots of pumping to maintain a good supply with DS. I am hoping I can keep it up this time too. That's great that your visitors are so helpful. Hopefully it keeps up for you! I can't believe we are at 6 weeks too. I can't wait for the smiles to come. I kind of feel like we should have more of a routine by now but oh well!

@creativemomma15: @MamaBehr: wow I reread my previous post and realized how bad my voice type sucks. Lol. I've been able to finally get some sleep. DH covered 6 hours over night this weekend twice for me & the last two-three days they have been on a 3hr feeding schedule so I've been able to get an hour or two of sleep between & I've been able to get that sleep in my own bed!! Whoop whoop! DH has been hurting a lot. His pain has flared up pretty bad & I've had to do most of the care for the babes on top of most the house work. its all he can do just to get through a work day.
@MamaBehr: what did I miss about our DH? Im glad you have had so much help. Im a little jealous lol. My brother had 2 24/7 helpers for the first two weeks with each kid & I have my mom every now & then with two kids. I feel like its made me stronger but still. Hope all is well.

Oh and im finding that my babies are growing way to fast! Im already having to box away some of their new born clothes & they are filling out their new born jammies trying to roll over, reaching for toys hanging above them, they have been smiling for weeks now & izzy giggled at daddy. Daddy gets all the cute firsts! Im starting a gold post just for baby pics! I can't wait to see all your babies!

@Sugar.Biscuit: DH broke his tibia in two places and required a rod to be placed in the bone two weeks before DS#2 was born. It was and is as horrible as you can imagine. I agree with you, that this is all going so fast! 6 weeks yesterday! I look at him and think that some moms have to go back to work already, I can't imagine.
Went for my first PP run today! It wasn't fast, long, or even feel all that good but I did it! I just hope I don't regret it tomorrow

Hey everyone! My DD won't nurse, so I'm apparently an exclusive pumper. Not something I envisioned, but I've got a great supply so it's not too bad. I'm able to go without pumping overnight which makes a world of difference.
Glad to hear everyone is doing well!

Well, after spending pretty much the entire week in the hospital, dh and I are finally home! We got home yesterday afternoon and we got such better sleep last night! Even with the wakings. It was glorious. I'm recovering from my c section really well. Everyone comments on how well I'm doing. I'm kind of surprised myself! I'm so glad that I got one.
Lily is also doing really great. She lost 9.5% in the hospital and got very slightly jaundice. So we went to our ped today and her jaundice is all gone and she had gained an ounce already! So all is well on that front.
Breastfeeding is going pretty well. I think she latches pretty good and her poops have changed over to the yellow seedy poop, so she's getting plenty. My nipples are sore and one has 2 tiny scabs on it. I'm unsure if I should go see a consultant. We would have to pay out of pocket and send it in to insurance. I'm not sure if our insurance covers it. I'm not sure if I really need it either. Although I have only fed in football hold and couldn't figure out the others.
Lily is just so adorable and I totally feel like this:
pomegranate / 3275 posts
@abbydabbydoodlebug: She's so flippin' cute!!! I wouldn't worry about seeing a LC if you aren't having a specific problem. Does your hospital have a breastfeeding support group? Mine does and apparently you go and nurse your baby and you can get tips if you want as well as weight checks (I've never been but I have friends who have). For me to go see a LC we would pay $60 out of pocket, I did it with DS#1 because I was having major issues and it was helpful, but haven't this time around. It sounds like you aren't having an issue though!!!
nectarine / 2636 posts
@MamaBehr: so you don't think I should go? You're right that I don't really have a specific issue that I'm dealing with. Are little scabs normal? On the 2nd/3rd day is when it started getting painful, but is that just from my nips getting used to nursing?
I think we would pay like $125 and then have to send it in to our insurance and hope that some of it would get covered.
pomegranate / 3275 posts
@abbydabbydoodlebug: When I went she helped me figure out proper positioning for a major latch issue (my nipples were bleeding and scabbed over by day 3 home from the hospital). She spent a lot of time with me, and it was very helpful, but I was having major issues. She weighed the baby, had me nurse him, and then weighed him again to see how much he was taking in, which was cool but not something I would be willing to pay for if there wasn't another issue. She also diagnosed me with mastitis before I saw my OB/GYN, but like I said my nipples were wrecked (even she said they were bad and she sees new nursing mothers all the time!) There is certainly a certain amount of soreness that is normal, so that shouldn't worry you yet. Obviously use your judgement, and if money isn't an issue seeing a LC can't hurt! I didn't go see one this time around just because I didn't have a specific issue that I needed help with (but this is also my third time around... and I learned a LOT with my son).
nectarine / 2636 posts
@MamaBehr: OK thank you for the advice! I think I am going to skip it and just look up online how to do the other positions and if anything specific comes up, I'll make an appt. We don't have a ton of extra money which is why I was unsure if I should do it or not.
Lily slept for 4 hours straight last night! She actually could've slept longer but I woke her up to eat because I wasn't sure if I should let her sleep that long or not! My DH is still complaining that he's tired. I keep giving him looks and being like, really? Lol ugh. But honestly, he has done a lot for me since I shouldn't do a lot with my incision.
Hope everyone else is doing well!

Well, things are going eerily well our house. I was convinced DS2 would be a devil baby since DS1 was so easy, but so far so good! He sleeps well, nurses well, isn't fussy AT ALL. I'm still just waiting for the shit to hit the fan, honestly.
DS1 is in love with him. He constantly wants to "hold" him and "help" in any way possible (he's only 22 months). I have felt instantly better after giving birth.
Tandem nursing has been a little weird. There have been a handful of times I nursed both boys at the same time and feel like a mama pig with her piglets lol. But making milk for 2 hungry boys (I call DS2 a milk monster and DS1 will look at him and go RAWR!) makes me STARVING! All I do is eat, breastfeed, chug water, breastfeed, repeat. Lol.
nectarine / 2636 posts
@Navy_Mommy: Wow, so glad everything is going smoothly for you! Good to hear all your pregnancy problems went away too. That's so awesome.
I'm kind of in the same place as you are... Waiting for shit to hit the fan. She has been sleeping at least 1 four hour stretch at night. My DH has been super helpful with getting me things so I'm not up and down all day. He was supposed to go into work today, but he is working from home since I'm still pretty sore. Breastfeeding has been going well, although my nipples are still pretty sore. I've been using lanolin and mother love nipple cream. Is the earth mama better than those? Cause I'll get it! Anything to make these sore nips go away faster! I was thinking about getting those soothies by lansinoh and see if those helped. How long are sore nips supposed to last?

Hey January mamas, how are things??
I am finally over this stomach bug that I've been fighting since last Tuesday. It was awful. I was so exhausted and poor Lily was fussy several times because I think she was feeling some of it. Her poop was green a few times which was freaking me out so we went to a lactation consultant on Friday. I found out that she is pinching my nipples, especially the left one, when she nurses. It's not super painful, just uncomfortable. But the consultant couldn't figure out how to get her latch to improve. I'm just hoping that the pain will slowly subside as time goes on. Anyway, I ended up going on a BRAT diet and drank pedialite/Gatorade combo and I think that's what really helped me feel better. Her poops are back to normal, so it must have been from me being sick.
Her sleep is going pretty well I think. I'm currently trying to get her days and nights switched around. And I think I was getting her up prematurely at night to feed because she was squirming and grunting, but I let her do that and she went back to sleep! So she slept for a 4 hr stretch last night before I woke her up because my boobs were about to explode, lol. So we'll see how long that lasts!
I hope the rest of you are hanging in there!

Finally making some head way on nursing! My supply kept dropping cause I was so tired I was just pumping & maybe nursing 2-3 times a day. LC helped me get a good latch & baby girl is strong enough to nurse wģo the shield & can now take a full feed! Im switching between the two almost every other feed till my supply builds more but I see the light at the end of the tunnel! DH will love this as they are both on Nutramigen for supplementing & they went through 4 big cans in 3 weeks! That shit is expensive & our insurance won't cover it even it its medically necessary.
Im off to target to find a daddy proof swaddle to help with bed time. I wrote a late night post about it after have to take over bed time yet again with a fussy baby.
Anyway I thought this might be appropriate for all of us right now.
nectarine / 2636 posts
@Sugar.Biscuit: I'm glad to hear you're making progress! That is alot of formula to go through. That shiz is expensive, so I'm excited for you that your supply is getting better!
We have Lily's 2 week appt this morning, I'm curious to see how much weight she's gained! When we went to the lactation consultant last week, she had gained 5 oz since leaving the hospital. I hope she is up near her birth weight today.
I also went to my 2 week follow up for my c section yesterday and I have a yeast infection around my incision. Blech. I'm having to put cream on it twice a day. Hoping it gets better quick!
Nursing keeps improving for us. She gets a good latch almost every time now and it is not nearly as painful. So, Yay!
DH and I are hoping to head to a mom's consignment sale this morning. We're hoping to score some good stuff! I've never been to one before, so I'm going in totally blind, lol. Wish me luck!
pomegranate / 3275 posts
@Sugar.Biscuit: I hate when people tell me to nap when the baby naps. Especially since the three of mine have taken a nap at the exact same time maybe once, that I get so worried if I lay down I'll be woken immediately! I'm glad nursing is going better! Are you taking any supplements?
@abbydabbydoodlebug: How much did Lily weigh? Little E wasn't up to his birth weight at two weeks, but made it there by three weeks. How does one get a yeast infection around the scar? Does it hurt? I hate when I have that kind of stuff to deal with on top of having a newborn (with DS#1 I had a nasty case of mastitis on top of everything else)
My little guy is going in for his 2 month visit on Thursday! I can't believe it!!! He is full of smiles and even talks a little now It is so cute. In fact, he loves smiling at his sister and it just melts my heart.
persimmon / 1331 posts
@Sugar.Biscuit: I love that meme! Glad things are looking up for nursing! I can't imagine how expensive special formula is for 2 babies!!
@abbydabbydoodlebug: glad nursing is looking good for you too! How was Lily's 2 week appt? I hate that you got an infection! I got one "down there" and then got an eye infection from sleeping in my contacts too much. Yuck. It definitely sucks to have that on top of everything else!!
@MamaBehr: 2 months already?!? Crazy!!
My little man is a nursing champ! He was back to birth weight by 5 days and at his dr appt this week, at 5 weeks he is 10 lb 14 oz! He loves to eat! Our biggest problem is he is colicky! Last night I took him for a drive and 1:30 am because nothing else would make him stop crying. It was awful. I hope he comes out of this soon, or my sanity might disappear forever!!!
nectarine / 2636 posts
@MamaBehr: she was up to 8lb 13oz, so just one oz shy of her birth weight. I guess i got it because the incision is in a "flap" of skin so i must have not kept it dry enough and boom, yeast infection. It doesn't hurt, kind of itchy and just gross because it smells and there's some pus. Sorry. Totally tmi. Lol.
@Emsmems: overall, the appt went well, but we found out that she has milk intolerance. Big fat boo! She had a bm while we were there and the ped looked at it and it was mucous-y and stringy, so she tested it. So now I'm having to go dairy free, which totally sucks because I looooove dairy products! Not only that, she said to avoid soy too and that's in everything! So I'm having to basically overhaul my entire diet while battling a yeast infection, taking care of a newborn, and my Dh going back to work full time tomorrow. Needless to say, I'm overwhelmed. I especially was on Friday and cried pretty much all day. I'm feeling better about the diet now but it still sucks. I do have a friend who has a 3 month old who is also dairy free, but she didn't have to do soy as well. So at least I have her to talk to and get ideas from.
But other than that, she's perfectly healthy and doing well! I'm glad we caught it as early as we did so that she doesn't have to be in pain and fussy and we would have to deal with that.
nectarine / 2063 posts
@MamaBehr: I tried taking mothers milk or something like that...it didn't work. I ended up getting mastitis & a sinus infection while taking them so my supply took a big hit anyways. I was triple feeding for a while & that helped.
nectarine / 2063 posts
@abbydabbydoodlebug: im doing dairy free as well & it sucks! I drove through Wendy's yesterday no & specified no cheese & when I got home there was 2 slices of cheese & I had 5 min to scarf down my food before both kids woke up to eat. I called pissed & hungry to bitch about it. I may try eliminating soy as well. My son is continuing to have bad stomach pains. It will help get me back on track to eating healthy again.
nectarine / 2636 posts
@Sugar.Biscuit: oh man, I'd be so mad too! I'm thinking of doing dairy and soy for 2 weeks and then testing a little bit with the soy and see if it bothers her. The good thing is that my DH is going todo it with me, so we will both be healthier. It will be good to set up good eating habits for us before Lily starts eating solids. I sure am going to miss pizza and ice cream though. Oh well, at least I have her as motivation.

I can't believe there are January babes who are already two months old while I'm finally doing my one month update (he would have been 1 month on the 29th...but there is no 29th in February, lol)
Big milestones this month - he came home, lol, and he happily took a bottle of breastmilk (DS1 never would).
He sleeps swaddled in DH and my room and wakes up about twice a night. According to my scale he's 10.2 pounds already (which would put him just under the 75th percentile according to the WHO growth chart).
Within the past week he's DEFINITELY started being more aware of the world around him versus just staring into space. And DS1 can't wait till he can actually play with him...
nectarine / 2063 posts
This not being gold anymore thing sucks. I can't even see the threads that I started which means I can't see all your lovely baby picture updates unless I go gold again...
SO both babies have slept through the night TWO nights in a row!!! Last week my LC told me to just start nursing one kid at each feeding & that I probably wouldn't need to pump anymore just increase my tandem nursing each day to try and increase my supply. Yeah....that seems great on paper. Tandem feeding two babies that like to play with the nipple is a bitch so my supply took a hit. I rented a scale to see how much they are actually getting from me. FX I can get my supply back up.
On the lighter side of things our little ones are over two months old now & awake more & more each day. They have been cooing for weeks now, baby girl more than baby boy, & have started mimicking facial expressions. They love making kissy faces and sticking out their tongues. They are alot more interactive with their toys & have started grabbing them and holding them.
DH on the other hand well...If looks could kill I would have killed my husband this morning as he walked up to our perfectly content son in the swing (as he was heading out for work) & "played" with him for 2 seconds & walked away. Who gets to take care of the now freaking out baby while their Cheerios turn soggy. Yup that's me. He even asked what when I shot him a look. After I said we had a perfectly content baby till he messed with him his response was really. I just looked at DH then the baby and back at DH with a "yeah really" look.
