January - the first weeks

@Sugar.Biscuit: I can't even imagine tandem nursing. I can hardly get my sweet little boy on there, let alone struggle with another! We have been using a shield since the hospital and I lost it the other day, I NEED IT BACK! I feel like he is trying to rip off my nipple.....

We had our first big adventure! Last week we flew from TX to NY for my sister's wedding. All three kids did great and poor hubby on his crutches was very helpful. I sure got a lot of sympathy looks though (especially when I had the car seat on my back, pushing the stroller with both DSs on it, pulling two suit cases, DD trailing behind and DH on his crutches~ we were quite the sight!) We are happy to be back and to start getting DS#2 into a schedule.

How are all the other Jan babies? Is everyone smiling and cooing?

Baby is smiling and cooing. She also rolls over consistently. We've had a horrible time with BFing and are heavily supplementing. Thankfully she is usually a good sleeper because otherwise I would be having a really hard time.

I'm getting focused on weight loss. I have baby weight and then some to lose. Anyone else? Need to get some weight off before I go back to work next month.

@MrsH: Good luck! What are you planning on doing? I'm heading to the gym this weekend for the first time since I was 24 weeks! I'm excited to get started again. I lost 50 after the first two weeks and then it stopped! Breastfeeding isn't helping any. Every time I catch a break I'm shoving food in my mouth. I lived off Oreos the first couple weeks lol I gave them up for Lent I've got 27 pounds to go before prepregnancy weight and 88 more pounds after that till I'm the same weight I was when we got married big goals to hit before DH knocks me up again. He has been begging to get me pregnant again since we left the hospital. I was not expecting that!

OH should we start a January 2013 momma's support thread for weight loss? BTW I hope you all don't mind that I'm hanging here with you even though i'm technically a December mom...

@Sugar.Biscuit: I need to stop eating crap so Monday I'm going to do the whole30. I figure that will stop any sugar cravings in their tracks and is supposed to have a bunch of health benefits.

For workouts I'm just trying to be consistent and get in 30 minutes a day.

Congrats on losing the 50! I have at least 60 I want to lose. I'd be interested in a support thread - maybe we could make it winter moms and get more people involved?

@Sugar.Biscuit: @MrsH: I'm totally on board with a weight loss board! (and I'm technically a December mommy hanging around January too!)

I lost 44 lbs right away and still have about 20 to go to get to pre-pregnancy weight and 10 more from that to get to my goal/wedding weight. I'm currently doing weight watchers because I only take things seriously when I have to pay for it! I was amazed at how much I was eating (I'm a stress eater and with DH still on crutches I have been stressed!!!) and if nothing else I'm eating better. Fruits and vegetables are 0 points, so we are eating a lot of those now.

Wow time is flying! I know this thread is for the first few weeks, I'm just now coming up for air and to the land of the living.

Recap from the first few days. My lil guy arrived after three days of early labor, 3 hours of pushing with no progress, ended up with a c section. He had low blood sugars and was in the NICU for 16 days. It was a scary time because the doctors didn't know why it was taking so long for a full term baby to stabilize his sugars.

Fast forward to now, he's happy and healthy, and I swear he's going to be a little stinker. He's starting to develop a schedule. Started sleeping through the night at 7weeks (with the help of the magic merlin sleep suit).

I just returned to my first workout pp/post c section yesterday. Ouch, I am really sore. I took it really easy too. My hope is to firm up this pouch I got going on. I'm not too far from my pre pregnancy weight. I've got about 7lbs to go (complements of the stress of DS in the NICU and had no appetite). My goal is to get to wedding weight, so my target is about 20lbs to lose.

I'm game for a support thread for pp weight loss if you gals are in.

    Hope you gals are well!

Wow, I'm super impressed that y'all are setting aside time to work out; and have the energy for it!

LO is 6 weeks old today and things are ok. I wish she was sleeping better. I tried to cluster feed her last night to try to get her to sleep longer, but she only sleeps 3.5 hours her first stretch, then wakes every 2 after that. I'm seriously sleep deprived. How are y'all getting your babies to sleep longer?

I wish breastfeeding was going better too. We were doing ok for a little while, but then it got really painful again. So much so that I thought I had thrush. I was never officially diagnosed, so I'm not sure, but I did lotrimin for several days and it got a little better, but my nipples are tore up from her latch I think. She was clicking a ton and I think that's what caused it to go bad again. I'm trying my hardest to get her to latch correctly, but she still clicks consistently through the feeding. I asked my Dr today for APNO, so I'm hoping he'll send in a Rx for that and it'll help.

LO was diagnosed at 2 weeks with MSPI, so I've eliminated a ton of foods out of my diet. If she didn't have MSPI, I would be seriously considering formula, but I can't because it's so expensive, so I have to make BFing work.

She's cooing and smiling a bunch and rolled from belly to back a couple times, but she doesn't like to be on the floor much, so we are limited on practicing that. She really enjoys reading books with me, although she watches me most of the time instead of looking at the book, lol.

I'm hoping things will be getting better now that we are at 6 weeks. I keep hearing of these miracle babies who have schedules and routines and are sleeping through the night, where we are just trying to survive still. I have no idea where to start with that.

@abbydabbydoodlebug: too bad about the MSPI...after two LOs not successfully BFing, I have become somewhat of a formula advocate in my circle. A dirty job but someone has to do it!

DD2 is 11wks tomorrow and is a sleepyhead, which is a good thing bc DD1 at 3 is harder to deal with. She takes at least 2 2-hr naps during the day and does 4-6hr stretches at night, thanks to...I have no idea. I am convinced there is not much parents can do to make their kids sleep, they either do or they don't.

She's smiling and cooing but shows no sign of rolling over (fine by me!).

I am slowly starting to work out again, but haven't this week bc we all have a little bit of a cold so I don't want to drop the DDs off at the gym daycare.

Hurray, LO slept 5 hours straight last night! I hope this isn't a fluke for my sake and especially DH! Lol. Poor guy has had a cranky, emotional wife lately.

@MrsH: Yep, I'm down 7 pounds from pre-pregnancy weight but I'm super flabby. This week I went back on my diet I had done previously (and lost 60lbs before) and started going for nice long walks with the baby.

I love hearing how well everyone's babies are doing

I haven't had much time to be on here so here's my first update. Baby girl is 9 weeks old and doing awesome. She's such a happy baby and super social, anytime I bring her anywhere she just smiles and coos at everyone. She started sleeping through the night at 8 weeks (6-8 hour stretch, eat, then another 3-4 hours). She is starting to love toys and her playmat. She's rolled from stomach to back a few times and back to side once but that's about it. I stopped breastfeeding and have been using up my freezer stash and giving one formula bottle a day to get her used to it. She absolutely loves the formula so I don't feel bad about stopping nursing. I have to go back to work in 2 weeks which sucks but then I only have 8 weeks of work and then I'm off for 2 months for summer break.

I have typed this out TWICE now, but various things (namely my two year old) has distracted me, closed the computer, etc. @abbydabbydoodlebug: How is your LO doing with the sleep now? My little guy keeps vacillating between sleeping really well and not.. but at least I'm getting some sleep.
@Honeydew: That's terrible your LO was in the NICU! I'm so glad that everything is better now

My little guy is doing well. I can't BELIEVE he's three months tomorrow!!!! I hope I remember to take his three month picture (totally forgot to do the 2 month one! whoops) DD and DS#1 love him so much, it is adorable. DD loves to hold him and he just smiles and coos at her.

I'm TERRIFIED to diet and possibly lose my supply! I'm exclusively pumping, which sucks (literally hardy har har) but it could be worse.

I'm planning on getting a nice supportive sports bra though and getting back to the gym next week! I haven't weighed myself yet, but I can *almost* fit into prepregnancy jeans.

@MamaBehr: She's doing pretty good now. It all of a sudden got better when she turned 6 weeks. We have a night time routine now, starting around 845-9 and she goes to sleep about 930-945. She's been sleeping 5 hours the first stretch, then 2.5-3 the second and sometimes she goes back to sleep for another 45 min, or sometimes she's up for the day. She slept one random night for 6.5 hours and it was awesome! I can't wait until that's a regular thing.
