@dc yoga bee: Whoa, we have no intention of posting on FB until at least after Thanksgiving. During LO's baptism next weekend, it'll be obvious, so we'll mention it to friends who don't know already. Right after his baptism is my 12 weeks appointment. I'm willing to wait a little longer to announce on FB.

@cascademom: yeah, we are going to wait until December to announce on FB. December is actually earlier than I would ideally want to announce on FB (last time we waited until the anatomy scan), but I saw a cute announcement that I want to replicate:

J LOVES playing with her doll babies, so I think something along those lines would be cute.

@rpparker: I got a UTI right with my first appointment. To put it this way, your flora and flauna as well as female bits get really messed up with pregnancy. Pregnancy just brings out the infections, etc. I just finished up antibiotics for a UTI. I'm drinking cranberry juice more often and doing probiotics this time around.

@78h2o: That's cute. I have no idea how we're going to announce on FB. Today, I just got word from my daycare to look into preschool waiting lists, so it begins. I still haven't told them that I'm pregnant yet. I haven't told my boss either. He totally knows too. I'm waiting at least until November 18 for my 12 week appointment.

@cascademom: My NT scan is on the 18th...that is when I plan to tell my boss. He is out of town this week, so I will only have to hide it 4 more times, lol!

@78h2o: I don't know if I'm getting an NT scan this time. I just got a regular appointment with my doctor. It makes me think that I may get an ultrasound on Friday, but I'm still not sure. I might need to email my doctor about that or if I should schedule an appointment with ultrasound people in the other office.

@cascademom: When I called to schedule the genetic testing and the NT scan, the perinatal center said that my insurance might not cover both. She said I should discuss it with the genetic counselor at that screening. I do want both because the NT can pick up things the genetic test cannot, like SB or a heart defect. Depending on the cost, we might do it even if it's not covered, but if we have to pick one, we're going to pick the genetic screen. My OB, on the other hand, didn't think there would be an issue with getting both, so we'll see. I also have a 12 week appointment later that week with an OB... not really sure why, but they will do a pee screen and listen for the baby with Doppler, so I will keep that appointment too.

ETA: If that sounds confusing, it's because my local OB office does not have an ultrasound machine. They do regular follow-ups there, but send you to their main office for low-level ultrasounds or to the perinatal center for higher level ultrasounds.

@78h2o: When I talked with my OB during my first appointment, she emphasized the genetic screening not the NT scan. It could be the nature of how my hospital system does it. I'll see on Friday and then email her if there's an NT scan in there or not. I love any excuse at making sure that my munchkin is okay.

I have my year end review at work on January 8th so I'm hoping to hold out until then. Planning to tell both families for Christmas. I'm torn on Facebook... I definitely want to craft an appropriate response thanking everyone for their support, etc. on this longer-than-expected journey, announce and then at the bottom make some mention to others dealing with IF (without mentioning it specifically) to continuing having hope and that they can always talk to me. I don't want to post without being sensitive to others who may be in my situation. Just don't know how to go about doing any of that tactfully... I'm also going to be sure to acknowledge IF awareness month going forward, once the cat is out of the bag.

I feel like we are going to be announcing super early! We plan on telling most people soon after our next appt on the 11th, I will be 10-11 weeks then, and then probably making a clever Facebook announcement on Thanksgiving

@MrsBrewer: I think thanksgiving is perfect. It's a major holiday. I'll be 13 weeks on thanksgiving so that's when we're announcing.

@LindsayInNY: that is really sweet. Im sure you won't come across as being insensitive.

I'm spending my lunch break calling the insurance back about what genetic tests are covered.

    @78h2o: That is really cute!

@MrsBrewer: We're telling all of our extended family the weekend after Thanksgiving (we're having to have a delayed holiday celebration so that is the first we'll get to see everyone). I'll be 12.5-13 weeks at that point. I have my 12 week appointment + genetic screening right before I go home for that trip so we'll probably wait to announce anything on FB until those results come back okay. So FB will be early to mid-December (depending on how long those results take).

@dc yoga bee: @Mrs.KMM: Yay!! I'm so excited to announce!!

We're having a hard time though trying to figure out what to do....we are trying to do a picture announcement and including our 2 dogs in it somehow. I'm sure pinterest has a ton of ideas!

@78h2o: on hold now. She's doing research

@MrsBrewer: we have two dogs too! But I'm leaning towards including a turkey in it somehow. Cheesy but so fitting!

I love all these ideas and can't wait to see how everyone's announcements turn out! I'll likely wait until Christmas to announce on facebook, etc. I think I want to do something christmas themed with ornaments. I would love to do something with my cats, but I see no likelihood in getting a good shot.

@78h2o: soooooo. I give her the codes for cell free fetal DNA first. She come back and says as long as the doctor has counseled you and and thinks there's some risk of Down syndrome, they can do the nuchal translucency. 1) I gave you a code for a different test. 2) there's always a risk of Down syndrome so I guess it's covered huh! She also said its not a maternal benefit but a diagnostic benefit. Then for nuchal translucency she couldn't find that one. So, I think we may just pass, as I really don't want a $1500 bill.

@MrsBrewer: and @Eko: DH and I acquired the nickname Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head (note the avatar). DH even proposed to me with the ring inside a Mrs. Potato Head doll. So I'm trying to convince him to do something along the lines of "Mr and Mrs. Potato Head are having a little tator tot!"

@dc yoga bee: I always thought the NT scan was pretty standard. Apparently not!

  22. Jess1483

    nectarine / 2641 posts

@Mrs.KMM: The NT screening is the only thing I'm offered. Since I'm not "high risk," the genetic screening would be $3000! No thanks, we'll just take the NT screening

  23. 78h2o

    grapefruit / 4441 posts

@dc yoga bee: oh brother. Maybe I will try calling and see what they say. I had the NT and sequential screen with my last pregnancy and it was covered, but at that time I had BCBS PPO (not Fed). I am pretty sure the DNA test will be covered for me since I am >35, but not sure about the NT. Thanks for the report!

I am trying to decide whether or not we want to stick with my husband's benefits or switch to mine this year... it is making my head spin. He has better maternity benefits, but I have better prescription coverage (and he has expensive meds), so I need to run all the numbers. We could also switch when this LO is born (life changing event), but that's what we did last time and it was a little confusing.

  24. dc yoga bee

    grapefruit / 4770 posts

@78h2o: what are better maternity benefits than the ones we have with bcbs fed? Everyone's told me they're the best, and when I called they said I only have a $175 admittance copay for delivery. I'm so confused with the genetic screening I'm seriously considering skipping it!

  25. 78h2o

    grapefruit / 4441 posts

@dc yoga bee: sorry for the confusion...that's what I mean. I am currently on my husband's BCBS fed plan...we have the Standard option right now, so pay nothing for maternity. However, BCBS fed prescription benefits aren't all that great... the plan through my work is better. We pay more than $400/mo out of pockets for my husband's meds right now.

  26. dc yoga bee

@78h2o: ahh gotcha! we have the basic option. All my prescriptions are $10.

I left work at noon today with an aura blocking a good portion of my vision. I'm still waiting to see if it turns into a migraine. I'm disappointed because while I had this about 8 times with my last pregnancy I don't remember having them until second trimester. Looking on the bright side, the headache is a nice break from nausea.

    @dc yoga bee: Hooray!

My pregnant self woke at 4 this morning and my toddler woke at 5. He usually comes to bed and falls back asleep, but not this morning. Then he refused to nap. I wanted to jump off a tall building. Luckily, my mom came by to take him on errands before I lose it, but I'm waiting for a return phone call that should have come 2 hours ago, so I don't want to nap. I do think I'll take a long shower and relax, though.

@dc yoga bee: so I just had a very annoying experience with the insurance company as well. My OB uses the Verifi test (codes: 84999,81599,81479) and then the NT test (code 76813 for the sono, and 84704, 84163 for the bloodwork). So they tell me all the codes are listed as covered, but it depends on the documentation. If listed as "routine maternity", they are covered at 100%. If they are for a "medical reason", they are covered similarly to other medical (non-maternity benefits). To complicate matters, the labs were my doctors send the Verifi bloodwork and sequential screen bloodwork are out-of-state. So now I have to find out if they are in the preferred network or not. We have met our family out-of-pocket maximum for preferred providers this year, so if they are in-network then it doesn't matter if they say it's routine or medically necessary. If they are not preferred, then I think we might have to figure out how they will document it first. What a PITA.

@Jess1483: Ugh, I hope you can take a nap! J had a rough night too, up 2-3x. She has been rejecting her sleep sack, "No sack, no sack!!!!!"...but then I'm pretty sure woke up because her blanket fell off and she was cold.

  38. Jess1483

    nectarine / 2641 posts

@78h2o: It's a habit I'm going to have to break. So far, if he wakes before 5, he gets ignored and falls asleep in his own room. If he wakes after 5, I bring him to bed and he sleeps usually until 7:15 or 7:30 (I like the snuggles anyway). But it's starting to not work every time, and he also crawls all over me with no regard for belly safety. I want one of those toddler alarm clocks, because I do think it'd work for him. Trying to hold out for his birthday and make it a super special deal. But I can't do this with him and a newborn.

Still no return phone call. I think I'll assume I'm not getting one and I'll call tomorrow. But now it's too late for a nap. (I'm feeling extraordinarily whiny today). I did get the garbage ready to go out (win!) and do a couple other projects (including paint something my husband was supposed to paint yesterday--he'll probably be mad, but if you don't want me doing it, then do it when you're supposed to!)

I'm thinking about doing a regular Christmas card and then just signing "Love, DH, me, LO, and Baby LastName". Super subtle.

Either that or something more obvious with big brother. If we do that, we'll mail out cards mid-December (after NT screening/in 2nd trimester), and then do a FB announcement after we think people have gotten them. I think I'll be clearly showing by 12 weeks, so I'm not sure we can hold off any longer, though we waited for 20 weeks with LO1.
