I took DD to the Ped yesterday for her reflux. I'm supposed to eliminate dairy, nuts, chocolate and egg for 2 weeks and see if it makes a difference. If not, we will try meds. She also said I could thicken any bottle feeds I do with oatmeal, but im really not comfortable with that at this point given the severity (or rather lack there of) at this point. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

@catomd00: I did not realize how common reflux was.. Did your LO have blood or mucus in her poop? I've heard those were signs of a intolerance.
My Ped just put my Little Guy on medicine without telling me to eliminate anything from my diet. Idk if that's a good thing or bad. He's still having reflux symptoms so I'm thinking about cutting them out myself just to see if it'll help.

Do any of your littles ones get extremely fussy when they're awake? It's like if my little guy is awake he has to be crying. Then at night he's been super fussy for about 2 hours. Idk if this is reflux. If it's normal. If it's gas. Or what?!

@MMcAlli: her poops are fine, she just has some silent reflux and is generally not super happy during or after feeds. I'm losely cutting stuff out to see if it helps, but not killing myself over it because I think it's more an issue of her being a newborn and excessive gas from not having a great latch and my fast letdown and flow in general. Hoping it improves
As she gets a little bigger. My Ped is very conservative when it comes to meds...

As for your baby crying at night...sounds like the dreaded witching hour(s) and is totally normal. It should improve by 12 weeks. DD1 would cry on and off from 6-10 pm and the only thing I could do is nurse her/swaddle/and blast white noise to keep her mostly content until she went to sleep for good for the night. It's rough but relatively short lived.

@catomd00: did you go to the doc or chiropractor or just deal with it? i think it's my tailbone, it is right in the center.

@MMcAlli: my guy's been really fussy yesterday and tonight. I'm not sure if it is gas, reflux, or a growth spurt. He doesn't cry he just grunts and fights being laid down but will sleep in my arms. I'm trying to just wait it out but it does get tiring .

Our witching hour seems to be from 4-6 pm and then he thinks It's bed time and goes down for the night between 6-7.

So my LOs regressed on their latches so yesterday I had had enough and cut out all supplement bottles. So we've been feeding more often to get the "extra" and I've been working with both on researching the latch. Feel like I made some progress last night. I slept mostly in 20 minute chunks with one hour ongoing chunk toward the beginning. Twins are soooo different in that department.

I had my husband sleep in another room last night...so it was different to be all on my own. But he appreciated the solid nights sleep.

@pastemoo: I just had my friend who was a physical therapist fix it. I think either a chiro or a PT would be best, unless you think it's fractured.

Who is nursing here? How is it going?

It's been another rough go here. I had trouble with #1 due to his posterior tongue tie, so I made sure I was on top of it at the hospital with #2. The first day or so went ok with nursing, but this child has a really strong suck and slips down from his latch, chomping onto my nipple. My nipples are cracked and bloody. My milk started coming in on day 2, but by day 3, I was totally engorged, making it very hard for DS to latch at all. I started pumping.

Our pediatrician /lac consultant noticed that #2 had a tight frenulum and some limited tongue movement. We went Tues into NYC to see an ENT for the frenulectomy. She also diagnosed me with mastitis! I'm a mess. I've been pumping and trying to heal my nipples. My follow up appointment is tomorrow and I hope to get LO back on the breast.

I promised myself to give nursing a chance, but it's been such a rough go. My husband wants to give up and just give formula. He hates seeing me in pain. I just want to give one more try before totally stopping.

I,of course, am weepy about it all. Sigh.

This baby is so good though. I've heard that bigger babies are better sleepers and it seems to be true. He just sleeps and sleeps, and eats!

@Alba4: Wow that sounds terrible ! Hang in there if you can, it does get better especially as your baby's mouth gets bigger. Nursing is not fun in the beginning.

I'm nursing. I don't tend to have many problems other than the initial blockage from engorgement. Lo 1 cut my nipples for a while but i managed to get through it without bleeding. This guy was starting to do the same thing but we seem to have gotten through faster. He's hit a growth spurt today and went from eating every 2 1/2- 3 hours back to every 1 or 1 1/2. It means I can't really get a nap so I'm trying to just ride it out. Happy Anniversary to me... we're definitely not going anywhere today now.

I'm trying cutting out caffeine to see if it helps with baby's gas/reflux. Wish me luck. With a toddler up at 5 am every morning and a newborn growth spurt, even having my mom here to help isn't enough to keep calm with my toddler.

@Alba4: I'm nursing too, fortunately I haven't had huge issues - just some pain and cracked nipples. Try and stick with it as long as you can, every day should get better!

@brownepiano: I'm not looking forward to the growth spurt, she's been such an easy baby so far!

Does anyone else feel like their uterus is going to fall out if they stand for a little while? The pressure is killing me, is this normal?

  15. brownepiano

    persimmon / 1467 posts

@MrsKRB: not this time but definitely last time. I could feel everything swelling too every time i went for a short walk.

  16. catomd00

    grapefruit / 4418 posts

@MrsKRB: I don't have it this time, but I did with #1. I'm in PT for my SPD this time though and have been doing tons of lower abdominal and pelvic floor exercises to help the SPD, which in turn I'm sure helps with everything else. I also only pushed 3 times so there's that. If it doesn't improve over the next few weeks, is definitely talk to your OB or see a pelvic floor specialist. In the meantime, do those kegels!!

@brownepiano: that sounds awful to cut out caffeine!! I didn't have any dairy yesterday and it did seem to help a bit, but it could also have been a coincidence. TBD.

  18. brownepiano

    persimmon / 1467 posts

@catomd00: that's good! I already am allergic to milk so I figure it can't be dairy that is upsetting him.

@Alba4: I am having a similar issue with nursing. I went to an LC and things were improving but now she is cluster feeding again and it's bleeding/cracking all over again. Ugh. I just take it one day at a time.
@MrsKRB: IDK about "falling out" but things definitely feel weird. I did accidentally start peeing as soon as I pulled my pants down a few times (a second too soon)--but started doing my kegels again (ouch this early on, getting easier again) and that has stopped. Also, I swear it feels like I broke my tailbone or something and then stitches hurt/are irritated in the weirdest places. I am so uncomfortable.

    @brownepiano: aww, happy anniversary!

@pastemoo: ditto on the peeing!! 😂 I tried to do some kegals too, it's crazy how weak I am now!

Then I'm sitting here tonight again fighting with them and shallow latches.....ugh

@Alba4: Sorry to hear you're having a rough time! Good luck at your appt today.

Baby eating all day has meant long stretches tonight. I'm hoping for a unicorn baby who sleeps through the night early. It's too soon to tell.

Anyone have the night sweats? I had them last time too and I'm tired of waking up soaked for each feeding.

@brownepiano: I did for the first 2 weeks or so. Haven't the last couple days...

@Alba4: Sorry to hear about your nursing issues... Hope they get better!

@meadow: haha I hear that happens often with LCs... All is fine in their presence but not when you go home or are on your own. Good luck!!

@brownepiano: my baby has been eating all day too! I feel like I feed him then change his diaper and then he's hungry again! He's been pretty good about sleeping longer stretches at night though. Oh and I just woke up sweating...

My little guy will only sleep when being held (him on someone's chest) or on his tummy in his crib.... My family says "oh that's how you slept" and "all my kids slept on their stomachs" but everything I read said "DO NOT LET THEM STOMACH SLEEP" Ahh. Apparently stomach sleeping can cause SIDS?!?! But I don't know how to get him to sleep on his back. He'll lay there when I put him down for about 5 mins & then will wake himself up. I've tried flat on his back, in a rock-n-play, in a swing, bouncer, etc etc lol. Any advice on how to get him to sleep without being on his tummy?

  33. meadow

    persimmon / 1272 posts

@MMcAlli: do you swaddle him? We use thesearch pods https://www.summerinfant.com/swadding/swaddlemepod. And they help so the.babies don't startle themselves.

  34. brownepiano

    persimmon / 1467 posts

@MMcAlli: Have you tried putting him down on his side? My guy seems to prefer that sometimes and I just go with it because he doesn't roll onto his stomach.

He also seems to prefer sleeping on our bed so we tried adding a mattress to his packnplay (nice and tight under the sheet). I'm not sure if it is helping yet.

  35. meadow

    persimmon / 1272 posts

@brownepiano: which mattress did you get? Every thing I found wasn't firm for infants....

  36. runnerd

    pear / 1593 posts

@brownepiano: I haven't had any so far at 2 days PP, but had them awful with #1

When did the night sweats start for y'all?

  37. brownepiano

    persimmon / 1467 posts

@meadow: I guess I should not have said mattress. I looked at mattresses but they are all expensive for an experiment so we got some thin egg crate foam and cut it to size and put it flat side up. It's so thin and he's so light that he doesn't make a dent in it. But I also value my sleep over following the letter of the guidelines.

@runnerd: Three or 4 nights ago, so at a week and a half? I haven't had any tonight so far! Everything seems to resolve faster the second time.

Is anyone using a belly compression of any sort? I didn't with my first, but I'm trying sleeping with some high waisted compression underwear this time at night. Don't know if I'll notice a diff but figure can't hurt!
