@pastemoo: that about sums it up
I had forgotten how hungry breastfeeding makes me! I'm trying to not so crazy eating everything but it's like I'm never full!

I hadnt noticed an increase in hunger until today, I think it's because we are experiencing our first growth spurt. My little guy is eating every hour on the dot. Ive been trying to drink lots & lots of water, and eat semi healthy food!
But yes, I am SOOOO glad to no longer be pregnant. No heart burn. No nausea. Ah it's so nice!

My milk just came in today and while that's exciting, my LO just wants to be on the boob all the time! We were supplementing with formula so maybe he's just used to getting more faster? He'll get frustrated and have to relatch several times, My nipples are sore and my boobs are huge and hard.
Other than that, I'm super in love with my baby and can't believe he's finally here! I could just stare at him all day.

Babies made it back to their birth weights yesterday!!!! Woohoo!! A week ago our ped was really worried about their health .... so this was huge to me.
I am also starving all the time. Sometimes it's a real struggle after a feeding cycle to decide nap or snack. Haha.

@meadow: Yay! That's got to take some serious work with two.
@starlitsky: it can be harder to latch when you're full and hard. You can always try hand expressing a little to soften. But it's hard when their mouths are so little!

I'm so happy to not be pregnant too!
We asked to be discharged early so we could actually sleep. We've almost made it through our first night at home. We have to take the baby back for some tests tomorrow but it is still really nice to be home. My toddler will come back in the evening so we are trying to enjoy the quiet before it really starts to get crazy.

@brownepiano: we had one night at home alone before our toddler came back. It was really nice and im glad we did it. Hope the transition with your toddler goes well!

@starlitsky: my LC told me tp hand express, the stiffer engorged breast is harder to latch onto. If I let some milk out, my baby girl can usually stay latched longer. Still working on it.

@MMcAlli: The no heartburn is amazinggg!
@starlitsky: I agree with others that baby might be having a hard time latching if you are too engorged. When my milk came in my boobs were like rocks and I had to pump a little so that baby could latch. Thankfully your supply should regulate soon!
@meadow: That is awesome that they are already back to their birth weights! Go mama! Are you EBF or supplementing?
@brownepiano: I got discharged as soon as I could for the same reason... SLEEP. I know that they are doing their jobs but I was seriously exhausted from being woken up constantly.

We had our first check up today and baby is back up to 6lbs 10oz (6lbs 13oz at birth and 6lbs 4oz when we were discharged). Doctor is happy and says that he looks great. Next appointment is at one month.
I am still having pain at and around my incision. My doctor refilled my meds today and I am so thankful. I have been trying to wean off of them but I am just not there yet.

@Purpledaisy: breastfeeding and following every feeding with somewhere between 10 - 20 ml of formula....next step is to wean them off the supplement....they sort of do it as they are finishing the bottle less frequently:)

@brownepiano: @pastemoo: @Purpledaisy: thanks for the advice! I tried pumping a little beforehand and it seems to be helping a bit. We are still supplementing a bit with formula so I'm hoping he doesn't get nipple confusion! Yesterday my left nipple started bleeding, so I pulled LO off and switched him to the right. I'm giving the left side a break until it heals but still pumping to keep up supply. It was alarming though because the first pump was bloody and I had to throw out the BM.
We have a check up later today and newborn photos scheduled for tomorrow. The hubby goes back to work on Monday which seems too soon, but it's partly because I spent the whole week at the hospital last week waiting for my induction to work.
I haven't really had postpartum cravings, which is weird because I had GD and had a list of items I wanted to eat when I was no longer restricted in terms of sweets and carbs. So far I've just been eating a lot of cold cereal lol. I'm definitely thirstier though, so I've been guzzling water.

@meadow: I still can't believe you ended up with a boy and a girl twin!! Yay for being back up to birth weights! Will you be sharing their names or photos?

@starlitsky: try lasinoh lanolin (purple tube, got it from CVS but they have this everywhere) before latching baby on to the injured nipple, and try Shea Moisture Mommy soothing nursing balm right after. I had a bunch of bleeding/cracking etc, and this helps a lot (this is a light green tube, got it from CVS).
injured nipples suck!

@pastemoo: Thank you! I have samples of the lansinoh lanolin from the hospital. I have motherlove nipple balm too... I will dig that out and try it!

Question for you ladies: my little guy has been spitting up all day & after his last feeding he started spitting up & some started coming out of his nose (like a stream from both sides not a tiny drop or two) of course I totally panicked & called the Ped who said it was normal for newborns to do that up until 3 months in age. Ahh it was so scary & ive been crying every since with worry for him. Any of you ladies experience anything like this? I don't think I'll be sleeping any tonight scared he will do it again & choke or something. Also do you think I should keep feeding on demand or try to space his feedings out since he is apparently getting too full which makes him spit up.
Will I make it out of this newborn phase? Im exhausted not from lack of sleep but from worrying about what's normal & isnt.
Side note: I am breastfeeding & my little guy has surpassed his birth weight. 7lbs6ozs when born today 2 weeks 1 day old weighed in at 8lbs8ozs.

@starlitsky: I am using coconut oil. All the creams seem to make my little guys lips chap up. It has seemed to help a lot. Oh & if they get real bad get you a nipple shield & express some milk into it & just let your nipples sit in your milk.

@MMcAlli: is he pretty happy other than the spitting or does he seem to get really upset about it (arched back and stiff legs and crying after eating)?
Some encouragement - A tiny bit of spit up can look like a lot.
You can try keeping him upright after feeds for a little bit and try your best not to feed him to sleep.
grapefruit / 4418 posts
@MMcAlli: we have some projectile going on and I think some silent reflux. If I were you, I would try block feeding. I only feed from the same side for a 2.5-3 hour time frame before switching. I have a pretty fast flow and letdown, so it also helps to slow the flow for her and ensure she's getting fatty hind milk instead of lots of foremilk. Side lying and laid back nursing with lots of burp breaks help, too. If you think he's comfort nursing, try to offer a pacifier first instead buy I'd generally stick with nursing on demand personally.

@MMcAlli: @catomd00: thank you!! I think they've gotten a little better after applying the motherlove cream. I'll make sure to rub some breastmilk around as well.
Still having some issues with consistent latching but hoping it gets better.

Ugh, baby has silent reflux and does not like sleeping at night. I think we are figuring it out but I am so tired!
cantaloupe / 6146 posts
@brownepiano: that is so hard, the first few days were sleep all day, cry all night... i hope it gets better soon!
what is silent reflux and how can you find out?
@MMcAlli: i think their lips get all blistered just from breastfeeding itself? both my kids did this... but also both have/had not great latches so it could be that instead, in which case I don't know about the chapped lips.
My son spit up so so so much, and he was totally healthy. Spit up can seem like a much bigger issue. I used to have to nurse with a recieving blanket under him to catch it, and a different one to burp him. Baby girl hardly spits up. Hopefully
@starlitsky: progress!
persimmon / 1467 posts
@pastemoo: He doesn't spit up much but if we try to lay him down right away after eating he gurgles and arches his back and slowly gets more upset. He also has a lot of gas. Silent reflux involves acid in the back of the throat and nose instead of spitting up. So we have to hold him upright for a while before we can lay him down to sleep. It just makes the night wakings a lot longer.

@starlitsky: I had the same thing happen with my first. One of my nipples cracked so bad I couldn't stand for her to latch on it. I just nursed her on the other side and then would pump the bad side and have DH bottle feed it to her. I think it took like two days of this but it got better! Use lots of nipple cream! I also really liked the gel pad things that I got from Target, I think they're called Soothies. And we never had any nipple confusion issues either.
nectarine / 2973 posts
@brownepiano: What do you have him sleeping in? Do you think maybe a rock and play or something like it would help since he would be at a slight incline??
persimmon / 1467 posts
@Purpledaisy: we don't have a rock'n'play but we do have his packnplay elevated on one side and we put him down kind of sleeping on his side since he likes that better. I don't think it is bad reflux, but enough to make nights hard. A home nurse stopped in today for a check and he's regained his birth weight plus a few ounces already so I'm realizing some of his fussiness is probably just a first growth spurt.

Day 2 over here, and R is a cluster feeding monster! I'm so happy she's breastfeeding well, but ouch! Has anyone used those cold gel pads for their nipples? Worth it?
Eta: just read @purpledaisy talk about the soothies!
persimmon / 1467 posts
@MrsKRB: I haven't heard of the gel pads till now. J is still cluster feeding a ton and i just try to remember to put lanolin on every time.
I have the icepacks (lansinole 3-1 heat cold packs) and they work wonders for engorgement.

My babies keep choking and detaching when they feed at my right breast. Doesn't happen at left. Anyone else have this happen?
cantaloupe / 6146 posts
@meadow: overactive let sown, hand express a tiny bit . I got that on the right with my son and starting again now....
nectarine / 2973 posts
@MrsKRB: I loved the gel pads with my first. I had less pain this time so they haven't been as useful. With my first they were a lifesaver. I would put them in the fridge first so that they would be nice a cold. The only thing is that they're kinda pricey...
I would also put some water in regular breast pads and freeze them.
nectarine / 2973 posts
@meadow: maybe that side is a little more engorged? Maybe try pumping a tiny bit first?
persimmon / 1467 posts
@meadow: like @pastemoo said sound like over active let down. That side could be making more milk. I always pumped way more out of my left side than my right side.
clementine / 795 posts
@Purpledaisy: I thought my left nipple had healed so I left him feed from that side and it ended up bleeding again so now I'm taking a BF break and pumping for a couple of days to let both side heal! Using lots of nipple cream which does seem to help. Also hoping for no nipple confusion issues.
@MrsKRB: did your milk already come in? That's awesome she is taking to BF so well!
nectarine / 2465 posts
@starlitsky: still colostrum, but the way she is eating it should be soon!
