@yellowbeach: hi cutie!
AFM, I've been experiencing aching/cramping in my lower abdomen, which I hope is round ligament pain. And last night nothing tasted good, which I'm pretty sure was hormone related
I have my 16 wk appointment next week, right before we leave to visit family in NY. I wish I could feel baby girl kick, I could use the reassurance.
I'm struggling with when to tell DS. He already thinks Santa is coming every day, I can't deal with that for 6 months with baby! I know it's going to be a process of telling, and retelling, and explaining, but it's so abstract right now (he hasn't noticed my bump as unusual yet) I *think* it's too early? I don't know. What's everyone else's plan?

@BUNBUN: We told DD (2.5) and she kinda gets it - but immediately says she wants a little sister Iām like - I do t know what to do with THAT... not like we get a choice little one. Lol.

@yellowbeach: so jealous you can do that! Also, impressed you donāt do it every day
@BUNBUN: we told our kids at like 9 1/2 weeks, I was hoping it would help them be more gentle with me and let me relax more, it didnāt really work LOL. My four-year-old is super excited and talks about the baby every day, asked how big she is, asked if sheās kicking yet, etc. My three-year-old doesnāt get it at all, he will say baby in mommyās tummy, but other than that doesnāt seem to put two and two together.

@BUNBUN: We told our 3.5 and 6 y/o early on, like 6-7 weeks, because I felt so awful and am the primary caregiver in the evening, when I felt peak awful. They 100% got it and understood that sometimes I just needed to lay down (plus they like the extra TV). They are super into checking out the growth on my apps, and watching my belly grow. I was/am definitely nervous about the risk of miscarriage and explained it to older DD a bit. I have my 12 week scan tomorrow and will feel better then I think.

@yellowbeach: haha, yeah, I'm sure he'll ask for a brother, so I think we will probably lead with "mommy has a baby sister in her tummy"

@BUNBUN: My kids are a bit older (5 in Jan and 6) and my son was with me when I tested at 4 weeks so he knew before my husband! We told my daughter the same day. They are so excited but they kind of get that itāll be a while so they arenāt impatient. I love that they know and itās been a great experience talking to them about it. But I can told see how that wouldnāt work with a younger kid!

@yellowbeach I too am jealous of your home u/s capabilities and impressed with your restraint.
We havenāt told DS yet, heās only 2 so I feel like I at least want to wait until he can start to see a bump to have something concrete to connect it to.
We had such a nice weekend going to our kids Shabbat program and then getting our Christmas tree (yay interfaith family haha), it is HARD to be back at school today, especially because my nausea appears to have returned, but my class has double specials this afternoon so I donāt have too many minutes of actual teaching left.

Morning ladies!
Iām going to share something that made me laugh at myself. Iāve been feeling very zen about the genetic testing - I have this feeling that all will be well with this baby and it helps me stay calm in this wait. Which is interesting since I was a bit down before last weeks appointment thinking it wouldnāt be good news. But then I got a call from my doctor - I missed the call and was waiting to listen to the voice mail - thinking it could be the results and my heart started to race and I felt queasy. It wasnāt the results - it was a reminder for my NT scan on Wednesday.
So while I still feel calm and feel like all will be well (and of course if Iām wrong, DH and I will take it a step at a time) I did laugh saying maybe Iām not as calm as I thought I was.
Love the ultrasound photo @yellowbeach - thatās so exciting!

How confident are you ladies in gender predictions from a 12 NT week scan? I have mine tomorrow and Iām so anxious to find out! Iāve read varying things saying at 12 weeks itās anywhere from 70-90% accurate.
clementine / 787 posts
@Becky: i havenāt looked into it. Interesting that it could have such a large error rate.
cherry / 146 posts
@becky At my NT last time they didnāt say anything about the sex of the baby. I didnāt even know they could tell at that point. Mine is next week, I wonder if theyāll say anything this time!
kiwi / 705 posts
@Becky: I've never had a doctor even hazard a guess at the 12 week u/s! Because of the holidays mine isn't going to be until 14 weeks so now that I know I'm going to see if they'll try to guess...
apricot / 430 posts
@Becky: there was no mention of gender at my 12 week scan, and even as clear as mine was, I don't think they would have been able to see anything
persimmon / 1390 posts
So interesting! They told my SIL they were 90% sure it was a girl at her 12 week, but itās also possible they have a better US machine because itās a high risk practice. Iāve read a bit elsewhere about the ānub theoryā which basically says depending on the angle of the genital nub they can predict what it is.

Well this is the worst "morning sickness" I've had yet. Some days I only keep breakfast down! Just a few weeks left!
Got the first ultrasound at my first doctor appt last week. Just 3 days ahead, so they're sticking to the official due date of July 9. I'm 2/2 for delivering before my "due date", but that's ok I guess This babe was a little bump on a log for the ultrasound. Perfectly still except the heartbeat!
Both kids want a baby brother, but with the morning sickness, I'm leaning girl. But I'm still having problems getting excited for name-picking.
Anybody else stock up on maternity clothes during black friday?
nectarine / 2648 posts
@codeitall: I hit Pink Blush up on Black Friday and got a few tanks, a pair of jeans and a nice lace dress for spring. Other than that, Iām borrowing and using stuff from last time. You find any good deals?
kiwi / 518 posts
@codeitall: I think mine was worse this time and itās a bit so who knows!
@Becky: my ya techs didnāt try to guess at 12 weeks last time but did this time since they knew Iād already found out. Sample size of one, but she was right. But I will say even at 18 weeks last time they told me it was like only 80% because it was still early.
@BUNBUN: we told dd but sheās only 20 months and she canāt really remember/articulate from minute to minute. I donāt think she really āgets itā yet so no issues with telling early.
I am finally finally out of 99% of my nausea, except for gagging when brushing teeth or smelling expired foods, and it is so amazing to be able to eat again!! Still feeling really tired and I keep being like...where is that second trimester energy (15 weeks) but maybe it just wonāt happen since Iām chasing the toddler. Our anatomy scan is scheduled for 18 weeks on 1/3 and Iām excited! Trying to think through whether I want to to a scheduled rcs or attempt a trial of labor and my opinion seems to change day by day - anyone else?

Just got out my NT Scan. Everything looks normal! I asked before she started if they would guess the gender. She was super honest and said that Iām at the early end for guessing and sometimes it just isnāt possible. As soon as she started though she said the baby was in such a perfect position that she was going to send in the image (I guess theyāre required to submit a certain number every year). And she was VERY confident that itās a BOY!!! I didnāt think I would be so excited, but I am SO excited. I was going to call my husband and tell him in some snarky way since thus far he wouldnāt entertain the possibility of a boy, but the nurse was like āWhy donāt you do something fun for Christmas and involve your girls?ā So Iām just going to get a cute boy outfit and put it under the tree or something.
nectarine / 2648 posts
@Becky: So exciting! Let me know where you end up finding all the cute boy stuff. I like the rompers at Hanna Anderson, but other than that, having trouble getting excited about boy fashion - but that's probably just because I'm looking in all the wrong places.
I love the idea of putting a boy thing under the tree for DH to find

@yellowbeach: I think winter boy fashion is tough. I got two sets of onesies at TJ Maxx. I think one brand is Hudson Baby, idk the other.
I am definitely embarking on a new journey with clothes but thankfully my sister is going to give me all of hers. I think boy clothes have gotten cuter/less sports themed in the past few years. I really like Burtās Bees!

Had my NT scan and 12 weeks appointment yesterday. All was great, she was moving like crazy! I havenāt gained any weight yet, but the hunger is taking over, so itās only a matter of time
kiwi / 705 posts
@yellowbeach: I love the boy stuff from Tea Collection, although I only buy it on sale! I also like Burts Bees Baby and HA. I second what @Becky: said that boys stuff has started getting cuter and less obnoxious. Even since my son was born almost 5 years ago!

@Becky: @LAZB: So jealous of your beautiful ultrasounds! It worked out that Iām not going to go in again until after Christmas (my last appointment was mid-November) and Iām starting to really consider begging my doctor for a 12 week check up instead of waiting for 14 weeks. I have a phone appointment today so maybe Iāll see what she says about how easy/costly that would be.

@yellowbeach: @JCCovi: I was going through old photos of DS, showing him how small he once was, and the Carter's stuff he wore stood out as pretty low-key but cute.
Full disclosure, I have very low-maintenance/simple taste in kids clothes, so you might find their stuff boring. I don't care for writing on kids clothes and they had some cute, simple animal and vehicle applique PJs and onesies that were cute without being over-the top. For trendier stuff (Christmas sweater, July 4th stuff, shorts) I really liked Old Navy's boys clothes, but their pants were often cut too narrow for my chunky monkey! He's got some really cute Old Navy t-shirts now and I love Jumping Beans (Kohl's) for really simple pants that feel like sweat pants, but look like cargo pants with pockets.
persimmon / 1390 posts
I despise writing of most types on clothing. I am both super excited and fortunate to be inheriting clothes from my sister and a friend, both of whom dress their boys really well.
Has anyone begun talking names (or already had a name picked out)? We had a girls name, but never agreed on a boysā name with our prior pregnancies. He threw Oliver out there the other day which Iād be ok with but itās not a top choice. Some of my top names below. Iād love for suggestions of names that might be similar that Iām not thinking of! DH also likes super Irish names and Iām ok with that as long as there is a good nickname (his cousin is making his son Seamus and I convinced his wife to go for it because they can call him Shea).
Miles (best possible contender for DH)
Finn (complicates by the fact that DH had a pet ferret named Finnegan in college...who was consequently in our wedding )
Jack
Jake
Jude (possible contender for DH)
Leander
Dashiell (no go for DH)

@Becky: We are having the hardest time approaching the name conversation this time around! I think weāre probably just going to wait until we know the gender.
For a girl I really love Gwynevere/Guinevere. But Iām wondering why I never hear it? I heard Gwyndolyn or Gwyneveeve (sp?) pretty regularly. I have no problem going with an unpopular name but Iām just worried people are avoiding this version for a reason. Any ideas?
For super Irish names my son is Killian ļø Not really any good nicknames though. His nickname is Key. I also really like Donovan but wouldnāt use it because itās a family name on DHās side and weāve already take 1 name from that side which I kind of regret

@yellowbeach: Old Navy had some decent stuff. I dug out my old boxes of clothes and I'm definitely going to need big flowy summer dresses. Never been super pregnant over summer haha
@BUNBUN: Yep, I'm a Kohl's/Old Navy/Carter's shopper. Also not a fan of words (or glitter), so our kid wardrobes are probably similar! I have heard good things about Primary, but haven't bought anything from there yet. I haven't had much luck at Target other than their Carter's line unfortunately.

@Becky: DH has the same name as his mother's cat in college. It is a constant family joke that he was named after a cat, so be prepared for it to always be brought up...
@JCCovi: My only guess is because Guinevere is kind of a lame person to be named after. Like naming a kid Jezebel or Isolde. Pretty name yes, just not a great story behind it. I'm also struggling with names. Maybe because we've already done the naming battle twice.
kiwi / 705 posts
@codeitall: Thatās what Iāve been thinking. The Guinevere/Isolde connection I get, adulteresses. But it doesnāt seem on the same level as Jezebel, who murdered all the prophets of an era. I guess if anyone is linking those together I should probably move on past that name.

Iām so excited to share my update!!!!
We are having a little And the NIPT came back low risk and the NT scans today all looked normal.
Iām so hopeful now that we are having our after such a long road of losses and heartbreak.

@JCCovi: Most folks these days just know the modern definition: "an impudent, shameless, or morally unrestrained woman", not her specific crime of killing prophets. I wish Arthurian legends had better women. We pick names from middle ages/mythology with cool names, but I can't bring myself to use anything from Camelot

@MrsJBeeG: Such amazing news! Are you doing anything tonight to celebrate? You should!
AFM, Iām totally in a nesting phase. I spent the entire day going through DDs clothes up in the attic (6 huge storage containers) and pulled out the gender neutral stuff that we can use for this baby. Turns out we donāt even need anything for 0-3 mo. Already filled a whole bin, and have some stuff for every other age group.
My big step forward was that I donated everything from DD to my best friend who has an 8mo girl, or to good will. I had been holding onto it all, desperate that I might need it and not have it. And with a big void after losing DD#2. Today I am 12w6d, and thatās the exact day we lost her, so it felt good to make positive progress. Itās amazing what sentimental and emotional attachments you can have with clothing. I donāt feel that way about any of my clothes, but man some of those little premie outfits took me straight back to the NICU. On the bright side, Iām now about 9 x 13 gallon garbage bags lighter on stuff I donāt need.
