Proud of myself. Made it through my lab draw for my NIPT without a meltdown. I thought for sure I’d have trouble even entering the lab. Now the wait...

Well...my faint pink spotting on Wednesday turned into old brown blood yesterday/this am and just now had some bright red blood and mucus, though not a ton. I have a dr appointment Tuesday anyway and don’t think I’ll go in sooner because there’s nothing they can really do anyway, right? Could all be sch stuff, I know, but it’s hard not to be worried since it seems to be progressing.

@skiierchck99: ugh, I’m sorry, that’s so stressful. You’re right, nothing to do, but still sucks to not know what’s happening

@skiierchck99: Ugh so stressful. Can we all just fast forward to our perfectly healthy 20 week anatomy scans??? Pretty please.

@yellowbeach I am all in on that idea
@skiierchick99 So stressful! I hope Tuesday comes quickly and I’ll be thinking good thoughts!

I have my first new patient appointment with my MFM this afternoon. Decided to be followed by a MFM rather than my OB just because I feel like things are more complicated now that we've had 2 prior pregnancies. I think he'll also be more tolerant and understanding of my anxiety since he deals with all high-risk pregnancies. It's only a 15 minute appointment. I'm wondering what we'll actually do besides just talk? Maybe just talk? Will he try to doppler fetal heart tones... not enough time for an US I don't think...

@yellowbeach: good luck! I thought you could see an MFM in conjunction with an OB? Not in place of? Is that not true?

I’ll probably kick myself for this later, but my nausea is finally subsiding. I still have a tough time with dinner and usually just don’t eat or have something like 6 dill pickle spears (Saturday evening). And I now have a definite tiny bump!
Something exciting for us is that there are 7(!) people in our family/friend groups in our town having babies in the next few months, which means they will all be in the same grade/class in the same small-ish school district (graduating classes are about 170). There’s only 1 elem, 1 middle, and 1 high school which will be extra fun.

@LAZB: You can technically for specific concerns - like with DD when kidney abnormalities popped up on her 20 w ultrasound. I just feel like I have so many issues on my problem list:
1. HELLP
2. Severe PreE (which will need daily ASA)
3. Premature delivery with all the NICU trauma
4. Prior T21 pregnancy
5. DH's brother and his wife have had 2 babies (one died at 6 days) with significant genetic issues (de novo mutations, not hereditary)
6. DH has a congenital renal malformation and essentially only has a left kidney bc his issues were never diagnosed as a child. We caught it with DD#1 and got treatment and now her kidneys are fine.
7. My age is now 41
8. IVF pregnancy (debatable if this increases any risks)
So all that combined... just seems like there's a good chance I'll see the MFM often anyway. My OB is great, but also the way that practice works is you see the NP only for early appointments. Might be elitist, but I want to see an MD... I don't want to feel like I know more than the person taking care of me. If I could just see my OB, I'd probably stick with her.

@Becky: That's all VERY exciting! I also started to feel a lot better a week or two ago. Still have the fatigue, but the nausea and weird appetite is much better.
I assume in such a small town you know all the other mamas already? Or will this help you make some new friends, too?

@yellowbeach: That’s good to know. I have kind of a confusing situation going because my insurance changes in January, but I’m seeing one practice now and they are referring me to a NFM. Then in January I switch to my OB that I’ve used in the past, and I figured that she would want me to see a M FM alongside of her, but maybe not. I have a whole list of things that’s good to know. 1. Premature pregnancies (35&36 weeks)
2. Placental abruption with third baby
3. AMA (37 when due)
4. IVF
I also had a trisomy 21 pregnancy but I didn’t think that would change anything

@yellowbeach: wow, that list seems like plenty to discuss on the first visit. I think you should also bring up what level of interaction, frequency of appointments, scans, etc you're hoping for from the MFM team. I hope it's a good appointment for you!

@BUNBUN: thanks! And thanks to everyone who wrote. It tapered down and stopped so I’m hopeful it was just the SCH - will find out tomorrow am!
In other news, I’m still nauseous and threw up twice this morning . I totally thought it was going away like 3 weeks ago but it came back with a vengeance.

@yellowbeach: Yes, all moms I know! 1 is my SIL and another is my husbands cousin’s wife (they’re also our neighbors). The rest are all people my husband or SIL went to school with who I also socialize with.

Appointment with the MFM was pretty uneventful. Just discussed my hx and ways to potentially prevent HELLP or at least detect things earlier. He tried to Doppler the heartbeat but we couldn’t find it yet. Surprisingly that didn’t cause me any anxiety. I did manage to get my anatomy scan scheduled for 19 weeks, right before we leave for Argentina. So that was good.

@yellowbeach: Uneventful is good!
I got my first comment about my bump today at work (everyone knows and this is a mom of 4 who wasn’t being offensive at all)!

All is looking good! Dr thinks the spotting was actually the remnants of the SCH because there’s no sign of it now. Heartbeat 141, posterior placenta, everything measuring normal Going to announce a little more widely in the coming weeks. Happy Thanksgiving ahead to all!

AFM, we got the test results! Low risk and a we are completely in shock. I hate bows and ruffles and I live in Texas...I’m screwed

@BUNBUN: congrats on the great news of low risk!!!! And I’m sure a girl will bring new joy (and maybe some bows) into your life.

@BUNBUN: Congrats on great results! FWIW I’m a girl mom and they are more into superheroes than bows, and like to play hard like the boys. It’s all what you make it!

@BUNBUN: that’s awesome! We can trade tips, haha. My dd will wear pinks and purples but no bows, hair bands, anything like that haha.

@skiierchck99 @bunbun Hooray!!
Just had my 10 week appointment, could see little bub great on the ultrasound, not so much on the picture they printed out haha. Everything was measuring well though! I’m doing NT, so I’ll have to wait a little longer for risk results, but at least I’ll get some good pictures out of it!

Oh man such a busy day at work but now I’m home at my parents house and ready to enjoy a huge meal tomorrow.
Last night I had my first reminder of crappy pregnancy sleep. I flashed back to my first pregnancy. Inflamed, narrowed and dry nostrils making it almost impossible to breath through your nose... and having to sleep on a ramp of pillows to avoid inviting acid reflux which I have only in my life had during pregnancy. Ugh.

Help! I need maternity pants that don’t fall down! Right now I’ve got Ann Taylor dress pants that are good for work, but the old navy boot cut jeans aren’t staying put and the yoga pants I bought are worse.
nectarine / 2649 posts
@BUNBUN: I have this same question. I just got a pair of maternity jeans from Pink Blush but I feel like they are constantly sliding down. What are other people doing in this awkward early stage?
persimmon / 1390 posts
@BUNBUN: I find that full panel pants just don’t work for me. The side panel or just stretch waist ones seem to be the most comfortable and stay up the best. I feel like I have a few brands but know for sure i have a pixie pair from Old Navy that I loved last time. Right now I’m mostly doing dresses with tights. I got a few swing dresses and have an old sweater dress from Old Navy and some warm tights that I’m probably just going to rotate through the winter.
