@Becky: My anatomy scan isn’t until 2/10! Eternity... I have a routine ultrasound on 1/30 and I’m pretty much expecting to find out the gender then. Still seems pretty far!

@BUNBUN: @skiierchck99: @LAZB: I guess I’m right on track... I really can’t remember when I definitively felt my previous 2 babies. Guess I just need to wait another 2.5 weeks until my next appointment.

@skiierchck99: I think they only do it last either 20 or 22 weeks. Mine have always checked. One time I got sent for an ultrasound because I was measuring behind but it was way off (my girls were both over 8lbs).

Had my MFM appointment this morning, some interesting developments. Everything looks good overall, so that’s good but 1. My fluid is just a little low, so I need to try to drink more water and see if that helps 2. I mentioned that I can’t feel her, and the doctor pointed out that I was having contractions during the ultrasound so the baby was squished, which made it hard to feel her. Not concerning because my cervix is long, but that’s interesting 3. Most interesting is that my cyst that’s been around for over a year is slightly larger, and apparently I’m going to have to have surgery to remove it. The doc said since it doesn’t look too “angry” we will try to avoid removal during pregnancy, but it will require surgery at six weeks postpartum.

Follow up appointment in 3 weeks

Just had a check up with my MFM. Our little girl waved at me while having her other hand behind her head - DH always sleeps that way so it made me laugh.

It was so good to see her. Her heartbeat was perfect and the doc was happy with everything she saw on the ultrasound - her spine, her brain, her heart. Feeling like this little girl may really be our rainbow. Anatomy scan on 1/28 but feeling so relieved and hopeful.

@LAZB: Does your cyst bother you much? Would you know it was there if not for the ultrasounds?

@MrsJBeeG: sounds like a great appointment!
@yellowbeach: no, I wouldn’t say it bothers me much. Sometimes it’s a little sore on that side, but not generally an issue. I certainly feel tenderness when that side is being pressed down, like during an ultrasound, but in normal life it isn’t painful or anything. It measured around 6.1 or 6.2 cm today I think, and it was 5.9 cm four weeks ago. The doctor said she doesn’t see things that make it look super concerning, so she’s not too worried about it being cancer (interestingly I work for an ovarian cancer nonprofit) but the fact that it has been consistently there and growing a little bit means it needs to come out.

Kind of a weird question, but what do you wear to bed during pregnancy? When I’m not pregnant I usually wear shorts and a t shirt to bed, and I did that in my past pregnancies. That worked well because I just wore the t shirts my husband has accumulated from races when I couldn’t fit into mine. We keep the house we are in a bit cooler in the winter, so I like to wear pants and a long sleeve to bed. I can’t fit into my shirts anymore and my husband only has 2 long sleeve shirts which isn’t enough. I hate to buy pj tops to wear only during pregnancy because I’m so used to wearing free t shirts I’ve accumulated.

Any recommendations for maternity pj tops that I might be able to use post partum? Or super affordable ones that I can use just in the meantime? Or like a long sleeve nightgown that works for maternity and postpartum?

@Becky: may mama here creepin. I just sized up in thermal knit long sleeves from Old Navy. They aren't so big and maternity ish that I can't wear them PP.

@Becky: What if you just buy your husband some more long sleeve shirts? That way you can wear them now and he can wear them after the baby comes?

During my first 2 pregnancies, I just wore my husband's tshirts the whole time. In the last year or so I switched to actual pajamas so I'm not sure what I'll do once I outgrow them. Hopefully it will be warmer by then!

@Becky: Target has some awesome PJ sets that I used during pregnancy and post-partum. I still have them! They buttoned so were great for nursing
I've also worn some of my post-partum regular shirts from my last pregnancy that happen to be really soft.

  15. Becky

@SweetCaroline: I could probably get my husband some of those and just wear them!

@Becky: I am love with Garnett Hill Asian Wrap pajamas. When not pregnant, I have like 7 pair of the long sleeve top and bottom sets. They are the perfect weight for all seasons. When pregnant (or not) I also have a few of their Asian Wrap gowns and prefer those when I have a belly.

@LAZB: Whew, that sounds like a lot. I hope everything resolves itself and the cyst doesn't cause you any more discomfort.
@MrsJBeeG: Glad you had a great appointment!

AFM, we had our anatomy scan last night. Baby girl looks good! So fun to see her in profile! But they want to monitor what looks like pyelectasis (I think? trying to remember the term the doc used), or dilation in one kidney. She's referring me to an MFM for monitoring. I'm not concerned yet; I'm actually looking forward to the extra ultrasounds

@BUNBUN: DD had this bilaterally. They had us see MFM and a pediatric nephrologist before she was born to keep an eye on how she developed the last half of pregnancy. Turns out it all resolved at about 2 years old. Hopefully it'll be a big nothingburger for you guys too, but I understand the stress of not knowing!

@yellowbeach: love this link! I may pick up some.

I was just talking to DH about pjs while pregnant so I was excited to see everyone’s thoughts.

    Is anyone having a sprinkle?

In general, I’ve never been a fan, but I silently sort of want one because my baby shower for DD was so jacked up. I ended up having her 2 months early, the week before my shower was scheduled. My friends who had planned the shower, thinking there’s no way I’d want to deal with it with a baby in the NICU, cancelled it. They told me and I burst into tears as the only thing I needed and wanted at that desperate time in my life was love and support from the strong women in my life. We ended up having it as scheduled, 1 week after DD was born.

Part of me wants a do-over. Not for the gifts by any means, but I feel like what was supposed to be a light, joyous occasion was overshadowed by my sickness, her uncertain prognosis and all the things that come with a traumatic birth experience.

I have always thought of too many parties around weddings and babies to be annoying... yet here I am. Thoughts?

  23. JCCovi

    kiwi / 705 posts

@yellowbeach: I love parties and wouldn’t blink an eye at a sprinkle! Especially since your first experience was disappointing! Do you have friends you can ask to throw it or drop hints? We didn’t have one with #2 (and almost certainly won’t with #3) and I think it’s kind of a shame. Each baby deserves a little celebration. I would not feel comfortable asking for one though. And this pregnancy I’m on the other side of the country from my good friends.

  24. BUNBUN

    apricot / 430 posts

I always hated over- blown showers, but I think a low key sprinkle is just my speed! I’d love one, especially since we have no girl stuff, but being 1/2 way across the country from friends and family, I’d love it more for the camaraderie and support.
I agree with @JCCovi: can you drop hints to some friends that you’d love a chance to celebrate this babe?

  25. LAZB

    pomegranate / 3904 posts

I love a baby celebration! I will actually have a sprinkle this time because friends have already offered to host, but it will be more focus on baby and less on gifts. I’ll actually probably have two because we have a group of like 8 girls in my neighborhood that we always do a brunch for when someone is having a baby, and then I’ll have one for the rest of my friends.

@yellowbeach: My mom or SIL might do one for me. With my first I got pregnant by accident while planning my wedding, so my showers were combined wedding/baby. It was fine, but I would love a small shower. My SIL did a really nice one for a friend last year and it was just I believe 4 of us who are her friends, her sister, 2 SIL, her mom, and her MIL. Most of the things we got her were for her. It was just at my SIL house and we just spent the time talking about babies and birth. I’m planning to do the same for my SIL next month if I get my act together and she’s ok with it. I would love something similar (although I do need a few things, namely almost an entirely new cloth diaper stash as ours has gone through 3 kids).

@yellowbeach: I wish! Non of my close friends live nearby and while they prioritized coming out for the first, I don’t think it’s happening this time. I would love one though because it’s a boy so we’re redoing most of the wardrobe...

Just a little update - charted with a friend who coincidentally asked about my interest in a Sprinkle vs Sip & See. Going to give it a little more thought then work with her to plan something.

Also - anatomy scan at 10 am tomorrow. Big day! 🤞🤞🤞

@yellowbeach: That’s so nice that she brought it up! Can’t wait to hear the anatomy scan results. I’m impatiently counting down the days (7) until mine. I’m extra nervous this time and I think it’s because we have just been so lucky so far.

I’ve been looking around for a hypnobirthing podcast, or another unmedicated birth preparedness one, or like a YouTube video series. I don’t really want to do a full blown class, especially because of the cost (also can’t really afford a doula and I’m not sure that’s the right fit for me anyway). I’m really trying to focus on making sure I’m ready for transition this time because that was the only part of my labor last time that I would change—I just tensed up my body, held my breath, closed my eyes and waited for it to go away (and that just makes it last longer). Thankfully it went so quickly but I want to try to be more in control this time. I also really want to avoid an epidural because I felt SO much better after my non-medicated birth. I’ve been listening to The Birth Hour which i love, but definitely need more guidance than just stories.

I just got a great text from my MFM - the AFP test came back negative so no signs of open neural tube issues! It’s another piece of positive information about this little girl that gives me hope. Next week is the anatomy scan.

I finally told my siblings and extended family and some close friends this weekend about our little girl. They were so surprised and happy for us that it’s made it feel even more real.

Tomorrow we leave for Argentina 🇦🇷! Spent the whole day packing and trying to predict any travel issues with being 20 weeks pregnant. Made sure to grab the Tylenol, TUMS, and a set of compression stockings in case my swelling decides to take off with all the walking we will be doing. Also have two doses of antibiotics in case of travelers diarrhea 💩 💊 but hoping NO ONE has to use it.

@yellowbeach: I would grab Sudafed! I’ve been randomly allergic to pollen or whatever in other countries before and it can be hard to find!

Sounds amazing - we are just doing a long weekend this time haha. I hope you have a great trip!

Had the anatomy scan this morning. It’s the first scan I was excited about. Little girl was very active so I do have to go back for a few more images at the end of February as they couldn’t get one shot of her heart that they wanted. But the doc was great to tell me not to worry - it’s not because they are worried about anything.

She’s weighing 11 oz and measuring 5 days ahead but they aren’t changing my due date now. I do have a low lying placenta that they want to keep an eye on as the pregnancy develops.

But all in all, I just feel joy.

I hope everyone’s pregnancy is going well!!!!
