@Becky: I got out a day early following my c-section last time because I was doing well and then had the opportunity to have a nurse visit me at home which was awesome. Hoping to do the same this time or even a day sooner since I will be delivering like 9 hours earlier in the day on day 1.

Oh @yellowbeach that is amazing news!! The happiest I have ever been about a BFN for sure. Youā€™re amazing! Take care of yourself as best you can.

So we live in the Bay Area and when they announced schools were closing for 4 weeks we saw the shelter-in-place order coming and we decided to get out of town. We drove across country and now are hiding out at my familyā€™s vacation property in SW Virginia. We are all working/schooling remote anyway so we have been congratulating ourselves on what a good choice that was since we now have more indoor space and tons more outdoor space. We also have the convenience of a personal washer/dryer instead of a shared building coin-op.

But! Now schools have been cancelled until May and no one seems to think thatā€™s really happening so we are looking at this situation and thinking thereā€™s a good chance we will be giving birth here. Nearest hospital is about an hour away (we are very remote) and my insurance only covers emergencies out-of-network. So Iā€™ve spent lots of hours on the phone this week trying to get us classified as an emergency (since at this point we canā€™t go back) so I can establish prenatal care here. First step is getting my glucose test done but Iā€™m trying to figure out all the what-ifs at the same time.

Still feeling lucky to have had this option and if I end up having to have an uninsured birth I have some money in an HSA account. But Iā€™m a planner by nature and I not knowing where this baby is going to be born is a big stress factor! Plus all my baby stuff is in California! We were half way across the country before it even occurred to us that this could possibly last into the summer.

@JCCovi: my goodness, this could result in quite a story down the road to share with your baby! Sounds like the trip across the country is still worth it - canā€™t imagine trying to shelter in place with two active kids in a smaller place in the Bay Area. I wish you good luck on the insurance issues!

As for me, just saw the crib I wanted went on sale so I ordered it to get the 20% off savings. Since DH and I are getting all the large items - every dollar saved helps. Iā€™m sitting down today to start to develop the list of things we have to have for this little girl when she arrives. I had a dream the other night that she came a month early and we were not ready at all. I think the panic that came through in my dream is helping to motivate me a bit start to think about what we really need for her at her arrival. Hopefully not a full month early.

I had a routine OB appointment yesterday and I asked about the potential for virtual appointments here. We are in a small city, without a lot of regional risk factors (no public transit, low population density, etc) so she said she expects we will get it bad, but not so bad that they would stop all in person appointments. They are doing pre-screening at the clinic door, cancelling all gyn appointments, and only allowing 1 adult visitor but she is optimistic that is all we will need here. I hope she's right!

@JCCovi: OMG! I hope you can get the insurance thing figured out. I feel like there should be a way around it. Does your work (or DH's work) have an insurance advocate who can help you figure this out? I work at a small non-profit, but our insurance broker is available to help us navigate mystery billing snafus and the like. Good luck!

@MrsJBeeG: Good luck! I was surprised by what I used (a compact co-sleeper that could sit next to us on the couch, multiple "travel" changing pads so that I had one in the living room, one in my room, one in the diaper bag) and what I didn't (that big expensive swing, crib until he was 6 months old)

I just realized that today I am about 2 months from giving birth! I guess it's time to start finalizing my amazon cart!
Especially for the veteran moms, what's on your list?

    I've got:
-infant car seat (old one expired) this time a LIGHTER one. Going for Graco Snugride
-travel stroller for infant seat. Hoping to make it easier for my MIL to use than our heavy stroller
-replacement tubing and parts for my old breast pump
(I'll hold off on getting a second pump until I know what BFing looks like this time around)
-Haakaa silicone manual pump (bought already. I'm excited to try it)
-new bottles (I think the glass burts bees ones I used last time are discontinued). I really liked the Comotomo when DS got older. I might try those to start
-new scrub brush for the bottles
-a soft blankie for the baby. DS is totally a blankie kid, as was I. Since DS like to chew on his blankies, I'm not too keen on him "sharing" his with the baby, so she will have her own!
    -a white noise/night light/nursing light. I'm eyeing the Hatch
-a Wub a Nub (DS loved his when he started teething at 3 months. animal tbd)
-a stuffed animal to take monthly photos with. I've narrowed it down, but still have to pull the trigger
Luckily we already have a second camera for our video monitor

@BUNBUN: I am going to add travel changing pads to my list for use in multiple house locations due to your post! Thanks for sharing the tip. Iā€™m totally in uncharted territory as a new mom. And with all thatā€™s going on in the world - Iā€™m just trying to embrace the fact that Iā€™ll be learning by doing on many aspect related to our little šŸŒˆ.

@MrsJBeeG: I'm glad it helped! I strongly recommend the slicker, more plastic ones because they are easiest to wipe off. You can always put down a burp cloth if you (or baby) don't like the way they feel on skin.

I'm a major planner, and I was so concerned that I wouldn't have everything I needed for my registry and for when I needed it, but once I had feeding, diapering, and a soft place to land figured out, I realized that DS and I had to figure it out as we went along any way!

In case you find this as helpful as I did, I loved this blogger's tips on baskets/kits to have in the bathroom (for you) and in the livingroom/den (for baby)
    https://www.twotwentyone.net/baby-hacks/
    https://www.twotwentyone.net/steal-hospital-popping-kid/
    I will also highly recommend:
Dermoplast numbing spray and colace for the first weeks post partum.
I took the bottle of dermoplast spray, the peri bottle, and gel cooling breast pads from the hospital and bought my own bottle of colace.

@BUNBUN: So soon! When I read that I realized I'm now in the third trimester as of today!

I have a lot of the same things as you on my list:
    - Wubanubs
    - New infant seat (went with the Chicco Keyfit again because I got a steal and we have afew bases that aren't expired, but it is SO heavy)
    - White noise machine (we've never had a good one but with two very loud big sisters we will need it)
    - Hakaa
    - Diaper inserts
    - Size 1 diapers
    - Wipes

I got my script for a new pump on Monday so I'll get that during a rainy day drive one of these days. I have a friend who is letting me use her Halo bassinet, Dock a Tot, and swing (we gave the cheap swing we had to my MIL when my niece was born).

I have a baby sprinkle at the end of May. We are playing it by ear and if it's not in person my mom still wanted to do something, just since it's my last baby and I've never had a dedicated baby shower. So I'm guessing I'll get some stuff then.

  16. BUNBUN

    apricot / 430 posts

    @Becky: great list!

Oh, I love the idea of a remote baby sprinkle. I've been so busy with work that I've felt pretty disconnected during this pregnancy, and now with the stay at home order, it's passing quickly without so much as a bump shot (note to self, do that tomorrow)! Maybe I should start hinting to my mom. She lives a plane ride away anyway...

Just throwing this question here because I've seen it come up on a few threads. What is the reason for 3rd trimester US and NSTs starting before 40 weeks? I haven't heard of this outside of HB so I'm honestly asking because I really don't know! I know there are many, many women on here who have struggled with infertility and/or loss but I don't want to just assume that's the reason.

  18. BUNBUN

    apricot / 430 posts

@Becky: For me, it's a combo of AMA (40) and DD's kidney/urinary tract deformity that they want to keep an eye on.

With my first, I was 37, but it was really because DS was measuring so huge that my OB wanted to keep an eye on his size. I was already scheduled for a c-section, but fortunately his growth slowed way down and he was born at 8lbs4oz (he had been projected at 12+lbs at one point)

  19. Becky

    persimmon / 1390 posts

@BUNBUN: That makes sense, thank you! Oof, a 12 lb. baby would have been wild--glad his growth slowed down!

  20. MountainBaby

    cherry / 160 posts

@Becky: They aren't routine here unless you have risk factors. For my first child I did have an ultrasound around 32 weeks, but only because we moved and had a new OB who wanted to see baby for herself, otherwise the last one would have been at 20 weeks. This time I was diagnosed with partial placenta previa at 20 weeks, so I go back at 28 weeks for another ultrasound, but if it resolves by then it will be the last one.

  21. skiierchck99

    kiwi / 518 posts

@Becky: for me itā€™s placenta previa - one last scan at 36 weeks to confirm itā€™s still complete. Not nearly as exciting now because dh canā€™t come. Our clinic doesnā€™t otherwise do any routinely after the 20 week anatomy scan.

  22. MrsJBeeG

    clementine / 787 posts

@Becky: I agree with the other mamas - I have to have the twice weekly NST or weekly ultrasounds (hospital is revising policy due to this virus to decide which they will implement) because Iā€™m high risk - in my case itā€™s due to my age at over 40. I guess it will be nice to see her regularly but Iā€™d love to avoid all the doctor appointments it means.

  23. skiierchck99

How is everyone doing? Iā€™m 32 weeks but measuring 2 weeks ahead and feeling huuuuge. My OB has no plans to change appointments through the rest of the pregnancy though I bought some things just in case they do. Being mom and worker and pregnant all the time is not ideal and I am really looking forward to having the baby if only so I can focus on just one at a time! But also, I think if this working from home and no school thing is still going on after my mat leave is over...I will probably quit because I donā€™t think I could do it at all with two. I hope it wonā€™t come to that but itā€™s hard not to worry.

@skiierchck Iā€™m only 28 weeks and I also feel like Iā€™m giant! I know I didnā€™t feel this way at this point with my first, but I can be grateful to be able to put my feet up a little more often than when Iā€™m at work. Iā€™m trying to get the hang of this whole remote teaching of 4th graders thing. Itā€™s going ok, but I really miss my kids. Also because of where I teach the majority of my class is food insecure and access to technology is a real issue, so Iā€™m trying to coordinate some socially distanced food drops for families Iā€™m especially worried about. Itā€™s nice having more time with DS and I feel like DH and are approaching a routine that works. My OB is spacing appointments more so since I passed my glucose screening (yay!) I wonā€™t be back until 32 weeks. Hope everyone else is well, this pregnant in a pandemic thing is truly surreal, but then again so is life in a pandemic in general.

  25. MrsJBeeG

    clementine / 787 posts

    @skiierchck99: all is well here!

I didnā€™t make the glucose screening - was just barely above the threshold level sadly (like 143) so Iā€™m in the middle of my 3 hour glucose test as we speak. And while I hope I pass, Iā€™ll deal with it if I donā€™t.

There was one cute thing as I sit here for hours. My hospital plays twinkle twinkle little star on the hospital speakers when a baby is born and I just heard it at the lab. It made my eyes water and I just canā€™t wait until it plays for when I deliver. 11 weeks to go for me and I just want wait to hold this much long for little girl to arrive.

  26. Becky

    persimmon / 1390 posts

I am absolutely massive for me this time. I donā€™t usually gain weight anywhere except my stomach when Iā€™m pregnant but this time itā€™s alllll over. If we go back to working in person before this baby is born my coworkers will be shocked. Based on fundal height Iā€™m right on track though.

@MRSJBEEG that is so frustrating to have to sit through the 3 hour test now while you barely failed the one hour! Idk what I would do if they said I had to do that right now. If I couldnt get in to do my 1 hour the day I did was just going to refuse doing itā€”no way I was going to go sit in a lab after mid-March.

  27. MrsJBeeG

    clementine / 787 posts

@Becky: it was frustrating but I did it just to be sure. And just found out I passed no problem. So at least itā€™s done and I donā€™t have to deal with other appointments beyond what I have to do.

@Becky: omg Iā€™m glad Iā€™m not the only one stress eating during this pandemic. I mean, I canā€™t drink, so vanilla frosting is a totally acceptable coping mechanism. No judgement here from me! (13 lbs gained).

32 weeks for me. I finally picked out a car seat, but Iā€™m not pulling the trigger...why?? Itā€™s on sale and not eligible for a completion discount but still Iā€™m hesitating?
Itā€™s been a hard week and Iā€™m grateful for today off. I canā€™t stand for very long on our tile kitchen/family room floors so baking isnā€™t as much fun as it used to be and washing dishes every night was never fun! The good news is that DS seems to be excited for his baby sister. But as for the rest of nesting, there doesnā€™t seem to be any energy left at the end of the day and DH and I are exhausted just getting through it. I canā€™t imagine being in @yellowbeachā€™s position, so I feel bad complaining, but Iā€™m struggling this week. My Godmother (who was like my grandmother) died on Sunday, and I think thatā€™s slowly sinking in. She was in icu with Covid and an angel of a nurse held the phone up so I could tell her I love her, but itā€™s still hitting me in little waves when I donā€™t expect it. I think Easter is going to be especially tough.

  34. skiierchck99

    kiwi / 518 posts

@BUNBUN: Iā€™m with you - about to be 33, have a scheduled section in 5 weeks and finding it so hard to find any extra energy or motivation to get ish done. And plan to spend the weekend cleaning and organizing and will order the furniture finally but Iā€™ve said that every weekend so... Tha car seat is pretty critical though so you should just pull the trigger šŸ™‚. I think part of whatā€™s making me lazy is we have all the ā€œessentialsā€ from our first so the rest is kind of gravy.

  35. MrsJBeeG

    clementine / 787 posts

@BUNBUN: which car seat have you decided to go with? DH has the task of researching the car seat and stroller for us but there are so many options that Iā€™m always curious what ones other moms select.

  36. MrsJBeeG

    clementine / 787 posts

    @yellowbeach: you do look fantastic!

Iā€™ve been asked for bump photos from some family but Iā€™m refusing. They tell me Iā€™ll regret it but Iā€™m not too big on regrets and looking back. I just really donā€™t feel up to it and donā€™t enjoy seeing how I look pregnant at all. And Iā€™m not the type to get pushed around by family so Iā€™m not worried about them not having photos. They can have all the photos of our little girl they want once sheā€™s arrived.

  37. BUNBUN

    apricot / 430 posts

@skiierchck99: exactly. The only thing I need is the car seat because our old one is expired.
@MrsJBeeG: I went with the Grace Snugride Snuglock 35 DLX because it is one of the lightest without getting over $200. My MIL has arthritis and I wanted her to be able to lift this one more easily than the Britax marathon we had before. Iā€™m also going to get one of the Graco infant seat frames for a stroller. DS still wants to ride in the stroller for walks anyway.

  38. BUNBUN

@MrsJBeeG: I havenā€™t been doing regular bump shots either. I finally felt up to doing one a Monday, but they are for me and for her, one day.

Ladies quick question for you all. Iā€™m thinking about what to wear home from the hospital for me. Iā€™m in the Army so when Iā€™m in at work - Iā€™m in uniform. I do have a few maternity items (and with teleworking most days I actually just got a few more as I was tired of wearing the same four tops these last three weeks).

Iā€™m thinking about a comfortable dress that is maternity and nursing capable. And just a few weeks after giving birth - Iā€™m retiring from the Army (crazy to be leaving after 20 years with a newborn) so Iā€™m thinking Iā€™ll wear the same dress to a retirement dinner as weā€™ve picked a casual seafood place (assuming itā€™s all open which I think it will be here in WA by then).

Any suggestions on where to find a comfortable but pretty maternity dress that I can still wear a few weeks postpartum when I may be nursing? I admit Iā€™m usually an avid Nordstrom shopper so I may start there. But I do love other ideas I get on here!
Happily Iā€™m 30 weeks today - some days I punch myself that Iā€™ve made it this far with the past losses. Baby girl is an active little bugger which helps me stay calm.

Hope everyone is still doing well!!!!
